These guys cater to the surrounding farmers and residents. Very homey atmosphere. Service was quick and friendly. This place was like a step back in time. The food is a solid interpretation of standard diner fare. My wife's Okie Special was a monstrosity of breakfast items drowned in gravy. The hot link on my plate was spicier than I expected, but I liked it. The biscuit and gravy were good. One small fault, my egg came out with a broken yolk. Always great food and great service. I brought my grandmother in for her first time( she is 102) and she loved it too .she got the pancakes eggs and bacon( extra crispy by request) I have the French toast eggs and bacon. Big portions, great coffee and fast friendly service. read more

Food was fair, howevet it was served room temperature, but the service...let's just say the poor waitress was completely overwhelmed by the 3 tables that had customers. When you see KK Cafe, it looks like a truck drivers joint for a good meal. It's been awhile since we went there for breakfast and noticed they have made some improvements to the place. Ordered the taco omelet which was pretty good. But in my humble opinion they added more hamburger meat than necessary. One thing I hate is getting burnt potatoes. Off the beaten path but easy to get to off the 99, we stopped at this unassuming place for a quick breakfast on the way to Yosemite. What a find! Definitely a local place, you can see the regulars up at the counter bantering with the waitstaff. The staff know what these patrons want and get it for them before they have to order! Our server was Ashley, a friendly fresh faced server (highlight on point btw!) whose suggestion for the cheese and salsa for the hash browns was perfect! I'm picky about my eggs-they have to be VERY well done or they go back. She eats her the same way so they came out well done but not totally dried out. That's super hard to do so color me impressed. The corned beef hash was good, and lightly crispy. The biscuit was dense, but in a good way. Dense but not heavy? I don't know, but it was good. And the gravy-win! Most gravy is made with too much black pepper for my taste, but this was definitely a sausage gravy. You could taste the smoky sausage/bacon flavor in the gravy without black pepper overload. KK's chicken fried steak is the best in Kern County. Huge portions, and it tastes great for a great price. If you get the full size your order comes out on three different dishes. It's so big I ate lunch there and took a full Togo box home. Then my wife, 2 year old and myself ate on it for dinner. We read about this cafe in a local Facebook group we're a part of and we were intrigued. When we got there, it was more than 1/2 packed , so we sat down and the waitress was with us in minutes. She got our drink orders and then we ordered our food which did not take long at all to come out. The chicken fried steak & pancakes were HUGE (price reflects it). I enjoyed the pancakes, they were super soft and moist but the chicken fried steak was SUPER salty... it was NOT enjoyable at all. My partner would have definitely ate most of it but he couldn't even get the salt taste out of his mouth to continue eating it. If we go back, it'd be for the pancakes and to try something else because it's a No for us to the chicken fried steak again. Ordered through uber. Kk's cafe cancelled the order without notifying me. So I waited an hour (the estimated time for the food to be delivered) and checked the app only to find out they cancelled it without notifying me...?? I contacted Uber support and Uber said it was cause they were out of one of my items but that seemed untrue since most places will either call and ask if you want something else or just not include that item in the rest of the order and refund you for the item they don't have. I checked their hours and turns out they were going to close an hour and 15 min after I placed my order. Save your money. This is their $16 ribeye "sandwich" which had a bone in it. She asked me how I'd like it cooked. I said medium rare to rare. It was so well done I had to try and saw through it with a steak knife. I had one bite and decided just to eat my fries. The waitress asked how it was and we said it was so over cooked it was inedible. She said she would take it off the Bill. Well she came out ten mins later, leaned in close to me and said "Don't worry I took it down to $8.00". I was assuming she meant for the whole Bill. My mom had a club sandwich and we ordered two iced teas. Apparently she meant that she charged me $8.00 for my meal instead of $16. So I paid $8.00 for French fries. Our whole Bill was $30. They might have had different management back in 2003 (and I don't mean to beat a dead horse) but, we heard a radio advertisement about this place so we went to check it out. We lived in the Polo Grounds back then, not very far away. We go inside and stand and wait to be seated (sign said "wait to be seated"...Fair enough). There were people eating and half the cafe was filled up. There was clearly plenty of seating left evidenced by the many empty booths and tables nearby. We made eye contact with a few of the servers as they were scampering about helping customers, but they ignored us. After about 15 minutes I look around for a server, I notice the cook is looking right at me with a stoic face. I smile and he looks away. Maybe it was a "server training day" (besides the point). I was there with my wife, step daughter and my infant son. We were completely ignored and we even had our Sunday best on. After about 20 minutes of standing there, we were getting tired so I finally got a servers attention and politely ask how much longer? She ignores me completely! Really?? It was like a "Twilight Zone" episode! Well, after the 20 minute wait and rudeness, we left never to return! That's 20 minutes out of my life that I'll never get back! Sad because I'm a loyal patron once I find a place I like, just ask the many other local restaurants I go to. I lived in Bakersfield for 20 years and have NEVER had that happen before! I went to one of my other "go-to places I keep in my rotation. I always like to try new places too! I've heard that they've changed management a few times since then and they may have new management now (not sure). Completely inedible breakfast still cost me over $30. I had the pastrami which was tiny and so overcooked I had to stop after 2 bites. Usually the mustard would help, but there was only the smallest of drops under that bun. The girlfriend had an omelet with eggs that were also overcooked with brown flat spots and the bacon cracked into dried bacon bits when broken. Both daughters had the same problem with everything being overcooked. The only thing made right was pancakes and the ice tea. They can't try to precook everything and let it go to an early grave in the oven and still expect to pass it off as a sit down restaurant. I did speak to the manager and she offered to take off the one only and offer a 10% discount, but then let us sit there without the check until we had to get up and ask our original waitress for a bill so we could leave. I went there yesterday morning and spoke with several of the old timers. I used to drive a big rig back in the late 80s and me and my brother stopped there several times when is was the old truck stop. A welcomed stop for some rest, food, and shower. I shared my visit with my older brother. One of the gentlemen stated back in the 70s was around 33 cents a gallon. Spoke about Elvis and he served with him in the Army. We were so hungry for breakfast and didn't feel like the chain restaurant on the other side of the freeway and we knew this was a cafe but it used to have another name. Upon driving up there were a few cars outside which was a good sign and it looked clean and freshly painted. When we walked in we were greeted by a young waitress that told us to sit anywhere and we selected a booth in the window. The restaurant had a few customers. It was decorated with cowboy themed decorations but clean. It had a usual diner counter. She promptly brought us menus and took our drink order we chose coffee. The menu was the usual diner suspects and boasted about their chicken fried steak and eggs which grabbed my husbands attention immediately as he's very partial to a good chicken fried steak. She returned with our coffee and took our order. He selected the chicken fried steak and two eggs over medium cowboy potato sand I chose French Toast. The coffee need help. It is that usual Farmer Brothers coffee that isn't made strong enough or they don't filter their water, so it's pretty nasty. The chicken fried steak came out and it was gigantic but unfortunately it was all breading to my husbands disappointment. About 1 inch thick on each side of the 1 inch steak. That was a huge disappointment need I say more and it was just a plate of breading left since he is not much of a breading guy. I kind of picked at it since I like breading myself and it was tasty but too bad it was all breading and not a big steak!! His cowboy potatoes were so so and the rest didn't make up for the fact that the steak was hidden in this huge amount of breading. Now my French Toast was your typical diner French Toast and I liked it. I guess there wasn't too much more to say since it was so overwhelming about that steak! We are not too sure if we would give this place another whirl because if you cannot get coffee right that should of been our first clue.
