I recently had to be in the downtown Glendale area - the Yelp machine recommended I hit up Blue Corn Cafe. There's some development / construction in the downtown area so parking is a little limited. However - I was able to snag a spot right along 58th Ave and get a good view of all the cute shops to check out at a later date. Blue Corn was surprisingly busy that morning due to hosting a Coffee with Cops event. I got the low down from a few of the GPD staff that they are consistently rated as one of the best cafes in the city, maybe even the West Valley. They have recently-ish opened up a second location in DT Mesa, which definitely fits their vibe. I was told the owner gets up early every day to bake - I love the dedication to his craft. Like many mom and pops, there are times when quantities are limited. So ofc I had to buy some baked goods to go for my work team! Their muffins are HUGE - like 2 -3 servings per *singular* muffin. I didn't know what I was getting into when I bought 6... hello carb heaven for us. I noticed a lot of sweet and savory options - croissant sandwiches, cookies, you name it. Definitely the muffins were well-enjoyed by all (PSL, lemon-blueberry, red velvet), and the general consensus was lemon blueberry as the winner. It's a small space with not a lot of seating options however there appears to be a back patio that might be shared with other restaurants. I couldn't get a view on my way out. This was my first stop, and I'm so glad it was. The café itself is absolutely charming--spacious, clean, and with plenty of seating. But what stood out immediately was the customer service. From the moment I walked in, everyone was smiling. You can tell this is a team that genuinely enjoys what they do. Despite the line, they were patient, welcoming, and incredibly knowledgeable about the menu. Their coffee selection is wide but not overwhelming. . I went with the matcha latte with pistachio, which was well-balanced. When it came to food, I couldn't decide between my usual go-to (broccoli and cheese quiche) or the bacon, spinach, and cheddar--or even the tomato basil, which sounded amazing. I asked the barista/ server to choose for me, and she recommended the bacon, spinach, and cheddar. It did not disappoint. The crust was thick and perfectly done, and the filling was layered and flavorful--just incredible. I also ordered an ube muffin and was given a complimentary lemon tart (no complaints here!). The ube muffin was exactly what you'd hope for--lightly sweet with a delicate blend of vanilla, nutty notes, and a hint of coconut. The lemon tart was perfectly balanced--bright, slightly tart, and complemented beautifully by the whipped topping. Before leaving, I grabbed a loaf of sourdough to go. They even offered to slice it for me--small detail, big win. And I have to say, coming from San Francisco, I do not say this lightly: this is hands-down some of the best sourdough I've had outside of San Francisco. Honestly worth the 45-minute drive just for that alone. I come from a background in the restaurant industry, and great service doesn't go unnoticed. Everyone here was attentive, kind, and truly invested in the experience they provide. The customer service alone is worth the visit. They so offer Panini's and daily soups.. Their menu changes daily. They also offer Louisiana hot sauce so someone knows what they're doing. I can't wait to bring my kids here next time. We will absolutely be back.

Ex employee here Feb 2024 - march 2025 Just wanted to share some things that were not addressed during my time at Kneaders in the bakery department, particularly regarding the management and workplace environment under the current leadership. Ever since the departure of the previous general management, the current leadership under Joe and Paige has been marked by inconsistency, unprofessionalism, and, most troublingly, a lack of response to serious concerns, including those related to sexual harassment. I was recently terminated by Joe, and I feel compelled to express my concerns. On multiple occasions, both Alexxis and I observed a co-worker, Micah, inappropriately staring at Alexxis while she was performing bakery tasks, such as bending over near the oven. Alexxis has expressed reluctance to speak up for herself, but both of us have raised this issue directly with Joe and Paige. Despite our efforts to bring attention to the matter, nothing was done to address these uncomfortable and inappropriate behaviors. Joe even stated that he "doesn't know how to have that kind of conversation with employees," and thus the issue was left unaddressed. Given Alexxis's discomfort with Micah, I tried to adjust my schedule to ensure that she was not left alone with him. However, Joe responded by cutting my hours significantly, claiming it was due to it being a slower season, when it was because he hired Micah and promised him full-time hours when they weren't available. Despite Alexxis and I already having full-time hours, Joe insisted on evening out the hours, which led to further frustration. The lack of advance notice about schedule changes made it difficult for me to plan, and whenever I raised concerns about my hours, Joe was dismissive and unresponsive. Furthermore, the work environment, particularly in the back of the bakery, has become increasingly unprofessional. On one occasion, Paige shared graphic details about her sexual activity, specifically related to her genitalia, and asked if we wanted to see a picture. This incident, among others, contributed to a culture of inappropriate conversations that persisted in the bakery. While I acknowledge that I, too, made a mistake by drawing an inappropriate caricature, I want to emphasize that this behavior was not isolated to me. The work culture had become permissive of such inappropriate conduct. As someone who took great pride in my work and consistently strived to be reliable, I cannot help but feel disappointed by the direction the bakery has taken under the current management. Both Alexxis and I, despite being the younger team members, were the only ones who understood how to properly bake bread. We even attempted to help Joe improve his technique, but he was not receptive to our input and insisted on adhering strictly to a process that led to consistently poor-quality product. read more

Kneaders Bakery is tasty and has a fun atmosphere. Plus, they have a drive thru. I had a half turkey sandwich on hazelnut bread with a side of broccoli salad. Plus, I had a bowl of white cheddar & poblano soup with slice of baguette bread. Also, I had a pomegranate berry tea. The bread at kneaders is fantastic. I especially like the white cheddar & poblano soup because I like the taste of poblano chilies. The turkey used on the sandwich is nice because it is not deli meat. They make the sandwich with a cut of turkey meat. Plus, the tea is brewed fresh. They are not using the chemical tea dispenser here. They have a couple other great iced tea selections as well as some hot tea choices. I like broccoli salad but the one they make has too much dressing for my liking. read more

But here's where it went downhill: the service wasn't exactly friendly. No greeting, no "thank you," just a curt exchange that felt like I was bothering them by ordering. Not the warmest vibe. And about that French toast... I ordered the "Chunky French Toast," expecting, well, chunky. Instead, what I got were two oddly inconsistent slices -- one thick, one noticeably thin. I was so excited to try this place. Was extremely disappointed in the food quality. I ordered chicken pesto sandwich in the bread was so soggy the chicken fell through. Also had the loaded potato soup and it tasted like it was from a can. I ordered a grilled cheese from the kids meal for my daughter. The cheese wasn't melted and it was just greasy bread. In fact, I feel this is in the top three or four breakfast spots in the valley. I always loved the downtown location when I worked down there but parking was always horrible and the wait was always long. Both of these problems are solved with this location. It's a nice open space with tons of parking and usually no wait, however, the weekends can be busy. The sausage links from the Pork Shop in Queen Creek are delicious. I've had almost every menu item and absolutely no complaints. The servers are always attentive and friendly. The majority of my breakfast outings are spent here!

Got The Five Spotter Platter which is made up of a fantastic breakfast sandwich with your choice of potatoes and a drink. There were plenty of ingredients, meaning quantity of bacon, eggs, avocado, etc. The hashbrowns were made quite uniquely with a unique taste. Not sure if I was necessarily thrilled with them, but the weren't bad. Prices are reasonably and they get the food out fast, plus check on you regularly. I'm going back for that breakfast burrito chimichanga style as it looked equally tasty and generous in portion size.
