Not too shabby. I'd been meaning to try out Knockout Pizzeria for the longest time, and finally had a chance to come here today. I tried their $6 combo with a slice of sausage, ricotta, and onion, and a second slice of something called "Gramma's Pie" (along with a drink) - and they hit the spot. Granted, they're New York style pies (though I've heard that there are thick crust pies as well), and they're reheated in the oven... but you do get what you pay for here. The sausage used tasted cheap/commercial. To me it seemed they used the cheapest ingredients possible to keep costs low. For $15 per pizza, I was expecting an amazing pizza. But I was disappointed. The dough/crust was not impressive either. It was flimsy pizza and seemed to be overcooked. Overall, the pizza was bland. Did not explode with flavor. = SERVICE = 3/5 Delivery took forever. It took over 1 hour for the pizza to arrive. I was only located about 7 minutes away from the pizza shop on Google Maps. I should have just gone to pick it up myself. After my daughter and her volleyball team lost in the CIF Division 1 Girls Volleyball Finals, I wanted to take my family and 5 of her teammates to grab some pizza. The championship match was held at Cathedral Catholic High, so we first tried to get a table at one pizza joint, but they could not accommodate our party of 17 due to the place being packed. I searched through Yelp really quickly to find another pizza place and found the 3 1/2 star Yelp rated Knockout Pizzeria. I called Knockout and asked if they could accommodate our large party. The person I talked to said that he could and that the place was empty. There is probably one main reason that they were empty and I'll explain my theory later in my review. Knockout Pizzeria had me stunned, if you'll allow me to use a boxing reference, but by no means was it a stunning knockout. Knockout Pizzeria is located at the west end of Mira Mesa Blvd within a strip mall. It's a lot closer to the 805 freeway than it is to the 15 freeway. When we visited Knockout on Saturday 11/11/17, the gentleman I talked to was correct about the restaurant being empty. There was no one inside sitting on any of the 7 tables that I remember. I tried to move some tables together for most of my family to sit together, but the young man behind the counter said I wouldn't be able to. You would think me bringing in 17 customers when there was no one inside the restaurant would afford me some leeway to make us comfortable, but little did I know that this slight would be a common theme throughout our evening. Knockout does have potential when you look at the decor inside the restaurant. There are large pictures of iconic boxers such as Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson, and George Foreman hanging on the wall, which fit the name of the restaurant. What I remember a lot about my first visit to Knockout Pizzeria was the lack of customer service by I believe was the owner. He's a short man with glasses who gave off this smug demeanor and that he was doing me a favor as he was taking my order. I asked one simple question about what pizza was his most popular pizza, since there were many pizza choices, and he replied in a cocky tone that all of the pizzas were popular. Mr. Owner, you need to be more self aware because you truly give off a vibe that you don't want to be bothered, which isn't the best thing to do when a business like yours relies on customers like me. I actually got the impression that you have a Napoleon complex. Dude, I spent over $95 plus whatever my daughter's teammates paid for the two pizzas they ate. Knockout Pizzeria could be a really good establishment if not for the attitude of its owner. There were two young men who I thought their customer service was so much better than the owner's, so there is hope. The reason Knockout Pizzeria at least gets a stunned boxing reference is their food. I enjoyed their pizza. For the sizes of the pizzas, you can order a 14" or 18" pizza. The 18" inch pizzas are a good size and sufficiently fed all of my family. I ordered two pepperoni pizzas, a Buffalo chicken pizza, a Knockout pizza, one order of garlic cheese bread, four orders of garlic bread, and 7 cups for their soda fountain machine. With this amount of food, I was still able to take home half of a pepperoni pizza for leftovers. Not sure if the pizza is New York style, but they are large, thin slices of pizza. The pizza we ordered that I thought was noteworthy was the Knockout pizza, which consists of pepperoni, meatballs, mushroom, fresh garlic, extra mozzarella cheese, and pizza sauce. I thought all the pizzas were tasty, but the Knockout actually fit its name. When I asked my son what he thought about the pizza, he said the pepperoni was good, but that it was too greasy. I didn't feel the same with the Knockout that I ate, but it's something to be cautious about if you're leery about oily food. The garlic cheese bread was okay. I asked about their Buffalo wings, but changed my mind after I was told it would take over 20 minutes for the wings to be cooked. Lastly, I thought the menu had too many food choices. After my experience with what I felt was lacking customer service, I read Yelp reviews about Knockout Pizzeria and wasn't surprised to see that other Yelpers had unpleasant dealings with the owner. Mr. Owner, your pizza joint has the potential to score a stunning knockout. The food and inside the restaurant are advantages against the competition, but what makes you just a contender who stuns people and doesn't deliver a knockout is your lack of customer service. I knew nothing about this spot until recently. I'm from The east coast do pizza to me is the holy grail!! This pizza crust you can see the authenticity in it. It's so thin and crispy. It was delicious. We ordered a pie for our pot luck and there were only 3 slices left..which I helped myself too haha. I'm so happy I did. I ate them the next day and wow! Every bite was amazing. I ordered delivery to my office in the evening since I had to work late. Wings, cheesy garlic bread, and a custom pizza. There were two issues: delivery time and food quality. Cheesy garlic bread: felt like something I could put together in my kitchen. A slice of cheese on top of a piece of bread. Cheese had melted and then solidified again. It was pretty mediocre. The chicken wings were unpleasant. They had way too much skin / fat, and they seemed undercooked. The net effect was excessive chewiness and the perception of skin on my tongue that I have to say even as a huge fan of chicken wings was ... not good. And a first. The pizza was ok. I did think that the price was reasonable. I had a custom large pizza on which I put extra cheese, pepperoni, salami, jalapeños, and fresh garlic. Considering all the extras, the price wasn't ridiculous. But the quality was just ok. Overall they were 15 minutes late beyond their guaranteed delivery time, also. This small, hole-in-the-wall place makes me feel iffy about it, but the pizzas are decent. You're not getting fresh pizza, they're heating up the pizzas that have been sitting behind the glass for God knows how long. But the deal is a steal, for two slices of pizzas and a drink, it'll cost you about $6. Also, their pizzas taste better than Domino's or any other pizza chain in the area. I hope they improve on the decor, because if they just makeover the place a little more, it could be a really nice little joint. At $7 for their lunch special of 2 slices of pizza and a fountain drink, it's about a dollar more than other places, but I prefer the pizza here so I always return. They have quite the selection of pizzas, but my favorites are the thin crust spinach ricotta and the deep dish pepperoni. I'm not sure if it's the cheese or the seasonings on the pizza (or both), but it always taste so savory. Coworkers tell me they love the garlic knots, but I have not tried them yet. Overall this place is great. Extensive menu and a variety of items to choose from. My main complaint is about the young guy with the glasses that works there. He is a total jerk to the female employee who works the cashier. I waited 15 mins on my order and not only did he degrade her in front of me he did it several times while I was waiting. I heard him call her an idiot and accusing her of being lazy. I don't know how she can work with this guy but if I was here I would have punched him out by now. The owner is a d*ck!!!!! Horrible customer service and very sketchy. He charged my card for a delivery order. A few minutes later I received an email saying my order was cancelled because the delivery location was too far. Later that day I noticed my card had been charged and waited another day to see if it would be reversed and it did not.
