I haven't been to the ABC plaza in the longest time, so when we trekked here for lunch, I was surprised that not much has changed except the old dim sum place was replaced by what is now Koi Palace. For a Monday lunch, this place was packed with people, so before I even sat down, my expectations were rising. Our group of about 10-12 were actually seated right away, surprising since the place was filled with people. We ordered close to $300 worth of chicken feet, shrimp/pork/chive dumplings, taro/egg custard/bbq pork buns, DURIAN PUFF!, veggies, sticky rice/rice sticks/noodles, etc. All the food was greasy, hot, and most of all, DELICIOUS. I was definitely stuffed by the end of the meal, and for about $30/person, I thought it was well worth it. There was a snag in one of the items we ordered - a chicken crispy-fried noodle. Our waiter dropped off another dish, which turned out to be just a veggie version. The waiter actually caught that he gave us the wrong one, but we were already half-way through our meal. He said he'd bring the correct dish out, but when we were at the end of our meal, the dish still didn't make it to our table. Kinda lame because our co-worker was looking forward to sharing it with some other peers who couldn't eat things like pork/beef. Anyway, our meal was pleasant and definitely plentiful. I have been to this places many many times, and they never disappoint me. Quality is always up there. Dim sum are usually very packed and you may wait a little during lunch peak hour. You could enjoy some very good traditional canton style foods. Seafood might be a little expensive but they are really fresh. The food was good, a bit on the greasy side for a couple of items. I was very excited to try the lobster served with noodles but they did not serve any utensils to take the lobster out of the shell and a lot of the meat went to waste. Not sure what dish the fried rice with pork was, as it was only rice and pieces of pork in it, which was almost untouched at our table. The shanghai dumplings were good and juicy. Came out here on this Sunday morning from the 707 area. The drive was over an hour +. Rain was pouring on and off and the wet road conditions were a bit sketch but we made it safely :P We knew right off the bat that the wait time was going to be long. My parentals and I decided to eat something beforehand so we wouldn't have to wait while hangry. We checked in at 11am and our number (103) was called about an hour later. During the waiting period people are crowding the host desk and entrance area, which is so damn annoying because majority of the people pay no mind to others trying to get in and out of the restaurant. It was raining off and on at the time so everybody waiting outside was trying to stand under the roof. You'd have to have a stern tone of voice to excuse yourself through. Have some courtesy people, be alert (insert eyeroll here). (RANT BELOW) The host sat us at an inconvenient location where there was heavy foot traffic. We were against a wall with a round table that quite frankly should've been for TWO people, located right next to the servers station. There were only 2 chairs at the time so I stood up for a good 5 minutes until they brought me a chair. They parked it right next to my dad's, so if he had to get up, I would have to get up to move because I was blocking him. I couldn't sit facing the wall or else my chair would be sticking out, creating a road block for people wanting to get through. Food on trays and carts were going back and forth quickly. Patrons passing by made me nervous. I was afraid that somebody was going to bump my elbow as I drank hot tea. The only things on the table aside from the plates, cups and chopsticks is a tea candle holder where the teapot would sit on top of. It's supposed to keep the tea hot, but it failed to do so. No condiments such as soy sauce, chili sauce, or other seasonings were available. Once we were settled in, you check off all the things you want on the paper menu. Some have pictures which is helpful, others don't. I requested for my usual dim sum orders of beef chow fun, fried crispy taro with minced meat, fried dumpling with minced pork and har gow. New items that I tried were the steamed piggy buns (bc they were so damn cute), six guys xiao long bao soup dumplings and their garlic salmon puffs, which was my favorite. Things came out in a timely manner. Minor complaints were that they didn't cut the fried dumplings and fried taro into smaller pieces. We attempted to flag down a passing waiter or waitress to have them cut it for us. My mom tried to ask them for soy sauce multiple times as well. I don't know why they didn't have the condiments on the table in the first place, unlike other dim sum restaurants. The palace is located on the 2nd floor inside a food plaza area. Parking was a bit challenging, even with my dad's handicap placard. Took me about 15 minutes to get parking after creeping up on people walking to their cars. People were double parking and parking in illegal spaces blocking through traffic. SMH. The restaurant was crowded, it was crazy busy and the noise was excessive. Above my table was the maximum capacity placard, which was 267. I'm quite certain that that number was exceeded. Overall, this place ain't great. The food was average and the prices were inflated compared to other dim sum places I've been to in the bay area. The only plus was the wide array of dishes that were offered. Our bill came out to $91 for 3 people which was exorbitant. Not worth the drive or the wait time. Customer service was almost non-existent because most of the staff was running back and forth. This is not like other dim sum places that come by periodically with carts and ask if you want it, but instead, they provide you a menu and a pen to select all your choices, and that can be very dangerous. As far as Cantonese food goes, there is no comparison, this place is the best though not quite as good as their Daly City location. However, if you are planning to go there on Saturday or Sunday night, check if they have weddings. If they do, avoid at any cost! We were there when there was a Vietnamese wedding and couldn't hear ourselves talking. My NIOSH app registered 127dB noise level during the lion dance part that lasted 15-30 minutes. The upside? We got to hear a bunch of their wedding guests singing Chinese and 80s pop songs way out of tune , pretty entertaining and hope the guest didn't lose their hearing afterwards. OMG! Just visited dim sum heaven. It was the best dim sum ever. It's on barber lane Milpitas, so very crowded, even though there is ample parking you really have to pray to god to get a spot. Our party arrived around 7:30 pm, on a Wednesday night, the restaurant is somewhat full, and we were seated immediately. Our server was professional, took her times to go over and recommended some of the dishes, on the menu. The server was very attentive, bought us extra napkins, refilled the teapot, without asking. Overall services were quick. Mostly everyone talks about their experiences for Dim sums at Koi Palace, though, i think their dinner menu is also worth mentioning. The ingredients they used are fresh, with higher standard, dishes are presentable, foods tasted amazing, and we enjoyed all the dishes we ordered. Was our visit, overall worths it? yup!
