Very poor service and food. Despite arriving 45min before closing, employees only let us purchase take-out. Staff was visibly annoyed to see us enter and waved at us rudely when our order was ready. I get the food here sometimes during work and it's overall pretty solid. The rice bowls are pretty generous and all of them are pretty tasty. My coworkers also enjoy the food here so its a pretty good choice for team lunches. Whenever I go it is never really very busy and the people that work there are always super friendly. The noodles were soft and thick, good amount of sauce. Price for both was about $37. Ambience: The place is neat, clean, and there was not much traffic around 7pm on Saturday night. Service: The girls that helped us at the register were nice and a sweet. They bring the food to you and pick up the bowls after you finish. Would not recommend. We ordered the Vegetable Tempura, Chicken Katsu, and Mapo Tofu. The best dish was the vegetable tempura. They did a good job of balancing the crispy texture without over cooking. The Mapo Tofu was extremely heavy on the Sou Bean Paste. They seemed to miss the mark on the flavor of the mapo tofu. The serving size was good for the price, but the taste was off. The Chicken Katsu was disappointing. First, it was a good portion. Lots of rice and the chicken cutlet was decently think. I've eaten at a few restaurants where the meat was so skimpy you're only eating fried breading. Not the case here, it was good sized. The downside, it was way over cooked. We've visited this restaurant a couple times now for dinner before we go to the movies across the street. The food here is very fresh, has huge portions, and is very tasty! We've tried the gyoza, pork belly, wagyu beef sukiyaki, and the curry tonkatsu. All very yummy :) Shoutout to the young man that works the counter. He is so helpful, attentive, and honest. During our recent visit, after we paid and sat down, he looked at our receipt and realized he double charged us for a drink. He came over to my husband with the receipt and apologized for the mistake and refunded the money back. It was just a $3 drink, so it wouldn't have made a huge difference to us, but the employee was very honest which means a lot. Kokolo Donburi is a chain restaurant with many locations in the Bay Area. We were at the Livermore location for lunch before going to the G&M Farm pumpkin patch. We ordered at the counter and then grab a table. The food arrived fairly quickly. We had the ika-gesso (fried calamari) appetizer, which was good, and for entrees we had the pork katsu with curry bowl, uni don, ten don(tempura) and the wagyu beef sukiyaki bowl. The portions were generous so none of us were able to finish our meals and had leftovers to go. The tempura don was most impressive. The tempura was piled high like a teepee and when we sent the photo to friends, everyone was impressed. The pork katsu was fried perfectly. Crispy outside and tender inside. They even give you an extra cup of curry sauce to ensure you have enough. We would visit Kokolo Donburi again when we feel like having quick Japanese comfort food for lunch. read more

Came back once again this past Sunday and thought I should give an update! When we first arrived, the first impressions were: clean and welcoming environment, friendly staffs, and two lovely posters for the drinks and desserts right next to the counter. Food: overall I think it's great for the price. the beef udon was flavorful and tasted really good. It was also a good amount of portion for the price they charge. Shiitake bowl came with a bowl of protein and big bowl of rice. Honestly, for $13, I feel that you can't beat the price in the bay area. It was also really good! Lastly, we got the fried fish tofu for appetizer. I liked that they serve it with curry sauce so that the fish tofu is not so dry to eat by itself. Curry sauce was flavorful and not spicy (at least for me) Drinks: the poster got our attention when we first walked in. So we decided to give it a try! My daughter liked the passion fruit and pineapple drink more because it was refreshing, natural, and the sweetness was just right. She thought that using pineapple chunks and fermented rice as "toppings" for the drinks was nice and unique, as you would commonly see boba or jelly only. I liked the Hong Kong style milk tea better because it was silky smooth and not too sweet, not too bitter. Note that, though, Hong Kong style milk tea is more "tea based" , whereas the milk tea you buy from boba shops are "milk based" Desserts: we ordered all three desserts because we are big fans of sweets. Matcha mousse cake - authentic and rich matcha flavor, it certainly tasted like they used some good quality matcha powder to make the cake! Honey lemon cheesecake - smooth and soft! I really liked how they added the honeycomb pattern on top and the layer of jelly gave it a little bit more texture overall. It also comes with a small container of honey for you to drizzle over too! It's interesting to see the combination of blood orange & meyer lemon tart! It wasn't overly sweet and the frosting on top also gave it more flavor. (Cute product stickers btw!) Anyways, I would definitely recommend this place. Food were great, service was excellent. AMAZING hidden gem!!! Service was great, prices were VERY reasonable and the food was delicious. I loved the coleslaw-like salad with the katsu, it was refreshing and paired well with the dish. The chicken wings were quite possibly some of the BEST I have had. They had a light sauce with just enough heat, and the crispiest of crispy skin! Most importantly the rice was on point. We didn't realize that we had been to the Pleasanton location in November of 2019. We thought we found a new place to eat when she found it on yelp this morning. With blind luck, we got parking almost right in front. We walked in and placed our order at the counter. The order taker collected our money and told us to find a table and she would bring the order out to us. There were three other tables in use when we walked in. It was a relatively quiet and comfortable setting. Just as I was commenting to her that the order taker hadn't asked what we wanted to drink, a server brought us set-ups with napkin, fork and chopsticks as well as papercups of ice water. Perfect! We ordered: Hamachi Kama - 5 - On the smaller size to others that we've had elsewhere, it came with a lemon wedge and a small container of sauce. Fortunately, the fish was delicious and moist and didn't need the sauce. Just a squeeze of lemon for some acidity and it was absolutely delicous. Had it been the correct sauce, it would have added some dimension and made it even better. It tasted like plain soy sauce as opposed to the dipping sauce with grated daikon. Fried Udon with Chicken - 5 - Want to make it a perfect bowl of noodles, add some Napa Cabbage. Since there wasn't any, I added the shredded cabbage from the Hamachi Kama. Perfection! There appeared to be two types of mushrooms, yellow onions and green onion. The noodles were chewy and the dish stayed hot. Chicken Tonkatsu with Curry and Tsukemono - 4 - We don't know if there was an option for a spicier curry but that would have taken this dish to a 5. Still it was filling and yummy! Overall this was a great place to stop and eat! I had the beef stir fry udon which had great chew to the noodles and good flavor. Takoyaki was delicious with the Benito flakes and the sauce it had. Be careful though it came out blazing hot and I was too excited and threw one right into my mouth and holy cow it was fire - I was doing everything I could to try to cool off my mouth. The staff was very friendly and checked on me a few times throughout the meal. The restaurant was nice and quaint but didn't feel tiny. My order was ready on time and the food was tasty (consistent with my previous experiences). The jidori karaage and any of the curry menu items are my favorites. The vegetable tempura is good but this time, they had less variety of vegetables. The mapo tofu was fine but I wouldn't order it again.
