Wow - this was beyond disappointing on all fronts. No idea how these people are still in business - especially when there are so many other good choices for food around here. Went in for lunch - but was told they don't have their lunch price specials today. Burger was $29 and fried chicken sandwich was $25. Service was poor and took forever to get food out (keep in mind the restaurant was nearly empty). Heard waitress talking bad that we asked for the lunch special to the cooks (thin plywood wall separating us). Chicken sandwich was so overcooked and dry it was inedible. I will start with expecting slower than normal service on Christmas Day. We had a reservation for 3. Very short wait for seating. Everything started smoothly until two of the three orders needed to be sent back. Wagyu steak fried rice was returned. The steak was very tough and rice overcooked. I returned mine and ordered the lemon garlic penne with garlic bread. By the time it arrived, the third person had finished eating. Rather than have that person there watching us eat we got to go boxes and returned home. Our server never checked on us. Customers came and went while we were still waiting. Our mood stayed up beat because it was Christmas after all. If this was any other day and I was with any other people I probably would have said forget waiting for replacement dish and pay for my 1 cocktail and left. I had not been there before. The service was good. I ordered the fish and chips. In cutting into it the fish it was far more dense than cod. Took 1 bite the taste was very strange. Then smelled the fish it had a very near rancid fish odor which is not normal with cod. Sent the order back and skipped lunch. The appetizers and my wifes meal (stir fry) was average at best. The ticket was still 80.00 for lunch with 2 apps. 1 entree and 2 soda's. We had not been here for a long time and it is now off the list for good. read more

Sushi apps were tasty and my dinner (Lemon Garlic Penne with Shrimp) was also very good - and the serving size was more than I could eat. I feel the food & quality of service did not reflect the menu pricing. The clam chowder was delicious -- the coconut cream was a nice twist! Calamari was fried perfectly & paired well with the sauce. We ordered the macadamia nut chicken -- a portion size large enough for 2 meals -- and the Picasso sushi roll, which was refreshing & good for a nice 85° day. On the service side -- our drinks were empty & refills were offered after our waitress visited the table twice after seeing they were low/empty & while we were paying our tab. She was very quick to drop our entrees off without asking if we needed anything else & did not take the time to check on us. It seemed as though serving us -- the only table on that side of the restaurant -- was an inconvenience. Recently, this has become a favorite of mine and my fiance's during their Happy Hour. They offer some really tasty bites for the low-low (i.e. a discounted rate)! We recently visited on May 11th and, upon entering, it smelled a bit like mildew or dirty mop water. Once we were seated, I could no longer detect the smell. My fiance ordered the Watermelon Margarita ($9) and I had a glass of Riesling ($6). I tasted the margarita and it was really good. I think I'll have that next time! We both ordered the Crab Crunch Roll ($6) because we'd had it before and knew that we wanted our own; some things are for sharing and others are not! I also had the Spicy Shrimp Tempura ($9), and the Potstickers ($3). My fiance had the Ribeye Meatballs ($9) and the Happy Hour Surf and Turf ($14). Went in late evening. Was able to order off happy hour list. Had edamame, pot stickers and a couple rolls. Ordered house margarita, it taste great. All the food was great. Bartender, Mackenzie was awesome. All worthy of a 5 star. The only reason a 3 star was the smell that was in the restaurant. It reminded me of sewer. We stopped at Kona Grill for a quick dinner when my family was in town. We sat outside and service was pretty slow. When we were ready to head out, it took far too long to get our check and be able to head out. The food is delicious and the drinks are yummy but in my opinion, it's quite overpriced for the area and the vibes. $25+ dollars for the little Poke bowl photographed felt a bit high considering I could get double the food for half the price at other local Poke places. That said, we love the vibes and that it's close to our home. We will likely visit again, but order something different or just come for drinks. read more

It's always a great time and good atmosphere at Kona. The restaurant is kept up well and the bar is neat. I like how you can dine in on either side of the bar. It's great for date night, fun time out or a group gathering. They have a nice happy hour menu and there is a variety of food options to choose from. The drinks (I love the mojito) are always good and they have a full bar. The sushi is a 7/8 out of 10. I would say the calamari lacks flavor but it's not bad. What the heck happened to this place? I haven't been in a few years but had fond memories. Last week went for an early dinner with family and the price, portion size, quality of food, and service were poor to unacceptable. I ordered an almost $40 dish of their wagyu steak friend rice. It seemed expensive but I was thinking hey maybe a great cut of wagyu and hearty portion of rice egg and veggies. Boy was I wrong. It can in a small bowl, very finely diced "wagyu" steak that was maybe 5 pieces, and rice pilaf with an egg on top. There was no way the rice was fried. The waiter was barely around and laughed when I asked if he brought the wrong dish. Never again. Id be shocked if this place was still in business a year from now. read more

Went for Happy Hour on a Thursday at 4 o'clock. Nobody was there. We sat at a high table in the bar. Ordered 2 KONA Margaritas. I don't think a restraurant should ever name a drink after the establishment if it tastes this bad! No tequila and some funky lime mix that tastes like window cleaner. Terrible! Had the happy hour macadamia crusted chicken. It was actually pretty good. But, service was slow. And definitely don't look up at the ceiling fan. The amount of dust clinging to the fan blades will disgust you. Not sure how this place stays in business. When we left, there was not one person in the restraurant at 5:30 pm. Meet Lindsey our fantastic server for Happy hour today! She's bright cheery helpful eager to serve you. I branched out and tried the shrimp taco and spicy crab roll. My friend had the chkn and shrimp lettuce wraps and the barbecue chkn flatbread and we shared and I really liked all of it a lot. It's nice to be able to enjoy some good food that's close by and easy to walk in be seated and get your food fairly quick! Yay, I still love Kona Grill! I thought I'd update my review because my old one was written 7 years ago, and I wanted to give some love to this restaurant for being open on Thanksgiving. I had to ditch my Thanksgiving plans last minute when one of my kids became ill. It would have been a huge bummer, but I found out that Kona Grill was open for dine in and takeout on Thanksgiving, so I decided to order some of their wonderful sushi to go. I ordered online, picked it up, and we enjoyed our sushi Thanksgiving meal on the couch while watching a Spider-Man movie. It was actually really great and memorable. And speaking of kids: I visited Kona Grill about a month ago and discovered that kids eat free on Sundays! Woo hoo! They also have tablets for kids to use at the tables with games and things on them. My kids love coming here because it's just a nice place for our family to chill and eat great food together. And the kids menu is amazing: They have bento boxes with a large variety of items to choose from. This is a really great restaurant for families. read more

Pulled up for dinner. My wife and I started off with avocado egg rolls, which were good. I wished the avocado was salted prior to being rolled, so we used the sauce on the side for added flavor. The 'salad' on the plate was really great. I love all kinds of sushi and trouble picking a roll so I asked the waitress for some guidance. She gave me a short list based on my likes and the Sunset roll was on the top of her list, so I ordered it. Wow, it's damn good. I am big fan of Ocean World sushi and Kona is a good runner up. I highly recommend the Sunset roll. With yellow tail and a slice of lemon on top is so fresh tasting. They serve Coke products and have a full bar, but watch out for flying corks from champagne / sparkling water bottles. read more

First off, this place is way too expensive for what it is. The portion sizes are hit or miss. My French toast was an ok portion size but there was no macadamia nut to it at all, I would not have paid $20 for plain French toast. The ricotta fritters are not very good (didn't taste ricotta at all, and it was very dense) and they are also $20 but it comes with 11 huge fritters. They could do a half size of these and probably sell a ton. The Kona-mosas didn't taste like any other special flavor. The lobster avocado toast was really good but a very small serving. Our server was great. The food and drinks came out very slowly but the staff was friendly and helpful. We were one of two tables when we first entered, but they got busier as we sat The food is way overpriced for what it was. read more

Came with my wife for a little wine. While the $50 cost of a $13 bottle of Miraval was a bit much, it was sad that the young bartender plopped it into the wine cooler and walked away. My husband and I ventured to Kona grill for dinner as we had a gift card and never been before. We arrived and waited about 5 minutes to be seated as there was no hostess at the stand. We were served by Kevin. Kevin did a great job. We ordered pot stickers, Philadelphia rolls, crunch rolls, chicken fried rice and the carrot cake. I do not like to leave reviews like this. My husband picked up an order to go which included a carrot cake, stir fry dish, and avocado egg rolls. I am not sure what has happened to the old Kona Grill and we are certain that the quality and experience we once enjoyed is GONE! The bill was $77 for those three items. I had to call the manager which that was an adventure after being tossed back and forth between AI and real people, I finally spoke to Michelle. I had to explain more than 4x's that I received 2 egg rolls priced at $20 that did not have any avocado in them whatsoever. I still never got a proper apology. It was shared that this could possibly true that this might be the case because they are no longer made in house and they could have possibly sent the wrong thing. A remedy to this is to prepare at least one egg roll before selling them for $10 a piece to your customers. My last several visits have been similar to this - overpriced food for items with an underwhelming flavor profile. My husband's stir fry was OK and the carrot cake. It as good as it once was. He has now decided that he will not be suggesting we go there. Sorry, Kona Grill. I wish it didn't have to end this way and I do hope that my refund for those awful egg rolls shows up soon. read more

Tory, the young new hostess went out of her way to make our happy hour great and introduce us to their new specials. Hannah was also incredibly friendly and had us smiling. We went to Kona Grill in Carmel on Thanksgiving Day. We had a reservation at 4:30. It was very enjoyable from beginning to end. Was greeting right away, table was in the back in a quiet corner. The room was very cozy. The food was excellent from beginning calamari and coconut shrimp. Two of us had the Turkey entree, a turkey breading and another entree was Sirloin strip steak with fries. Went for dinner on a Saturday evening and the place was mostly empty. Our server KK was nice and attentive. We started with the spicy tuna roll, it was fine but I can't say that it was any better than what I can get at Kroger for a fraction of the price. My wife had the Macadamia Nut Chicken which was good but she was surprised to see that it's fried. The menu said nothing about that. I had the Sweet Chili Glazed Salmon which was overcooked and dry also the portion size was small considering the price. To their credit they comped the salmon. Overall it was a lackluster experience and way overpriced for we got. This is not the same Kona Grill and I suspect it's only a matter of time before it closes. read more

So tried this place today, Mother's Day, and it was a complete disaster! Service doesn't get much slower than this (maybe Hell's Kitchen?). We all know it will be busy on Holidays but that's what planning and management is for... apparently not done at this place. Could have made some of it up by bringing out delicious food. Nope, was mediocre to bad at best. Sea bass smelled so fishy we had to return it, steak burger was dry, and calamari appetizer was fair and very small portion. However when we arrived at our reservation time, there are room of people waiting and after checked in, we have been told to wait for another hour. KG Sliders ($6) 8/10 (american cheese, grilled onions, lettuce, secret sauce, king's hawaiian rolls, fries) - these are TOTALLY worth it. 3 decent sized burgs for $6. 100% would get this again. Spicy Shrimp Tempura ($9) 5.8/10 (tossed in a spicy citrus aioli) - first off they gave us like 8 pieces. They tasted like shrimp tossed in lemon frosted flakes Chicken & Shrimp Lettuce Wrap ($9) 5/10 (bibb lettuce, cucumber salad, spicy sesame sauce) - very odd taste. They put way too much cucumber salad. Macadamia Nut Chicken ($6) 6.8/10 - just chicken tenders. Nice white meat but boring Crab Crunch ($6) 7.5/10 (crab salad, motoyaki mayo, cucumber, tempura flakes, eel sauce) - most basic crab roll. Cheap and good. It's hard for me to understand a restaurant unprepared for Mother's Day Brunch. The busiest restaurant day of the year. We had a 12:30 reservation we were sat at 1:45. Our first contact with a server was 2:00. The first thing she said was that the food when ordered would be 1 1/2 hours to receive. We stayed and finally received "Brunch". The food was terrible. Most hot food was cold, fried food was over cooked and they couldn't provide several items listed on the menu. All this and we still paid $45 for each plate. She said they were really busy as it was Veterans Day and they were giving free food to Veterans. Although we had a Veteran in our group, she suggested we leave as they could not accommodate us.
