Decent lunch specials which include free hot & sour soup almost as soon as you're seated. We come here for large group lunches to celebrate birthdays and never have a problem calling ahead to set aside a table for 10. Food is served quickly and most of my coworkers really like the daily specials as well as the standard menu items. We come here so often in fact that many of us already have picked out our favorites and don't even need to consult the menu. What I really like is that I've been able to order lunch sized portions of items which they have on their dinner menu. For instance I really like their salt and pepper pork which isn't a lunch special, but they go out of their way to make one for me so that I don't have to pay for the larger entree sized portion. Absolutely love this place. My family has been coming here for years. Excellent food quality and good value for your money. I'm a pretty picky eater and I'm not a huge fan of authentic Chinese food, but this restaurant has great food. With the COVID-19 virus going around and the Bay Area being ordered to shelter-in-place, lots of restaurants are slowly going out of business. I truly hope this doesn't happen to Koong's, as this is a great restaurant with always friendly staff. If you're looking for great Chinese take out food, definitely check this place out! read more

Got a take out from here the other day while looking for an asian place near our new house. The reviews looked promising, the pictures looked very tempting.. I decided to order the braised tofu and the veggie egg rolls. I called this place up and placed the order. The person on the phone was very courteous and said it would be 20 mins.. I arrived promptly after 18mins and my food was ready waiting for me.. I took my food and drove back home..once I opened the take out the aroma of the tofu was intoxicating..I absolutely loved every bite of it...btw, the main dishes dont come with rice, so order your rice on the side.. The eggrolls though were cold and soggy..should have packed them better...they still did taste good but i didnt enjoy them.. Over all I think this place is absolutely worth checking out..I for one am definitely going back. read more

I've been here once and I'm never going again. I am Chinese so I've grown up eating homemade Chinese food and great Chinese restaurants. This place isn't one. I didn't enjoy anything that we ordered. It just isn't authentic and it's overpriced. It's dark and dreary on the inside. Driving by I've never seen them have more than a couple of small tables at a time. Really awesome spot to get late night grub. All the people here are very nice especially the lady who serves us when we visit. She's extremely attentive and makes sure our water glasses are topped off and any other requests are taken care of. Grade A customer service. This place is a Chinese cuisine with Korean influences. I presume the owners are all Korean, which is all right with me (I wouldn't care what ethnicity you were actually, as long as the food taste good). I'm surprised not a lot of people understand how popular Chinese cuisine is in Korean culture, and when people hear about a Korean-owned Chinese restaurant they lose their mind. We don't lose our minds when Americans make Olive Garden though, do we? Point of the matter is all the food we've ordered have been delicious. Okay, so giving 5 stars to a restaurant during Covid, might seem a bit much, but the food is consistently good, the service (from the door, they are Very careful) is always polite and friendly, and the pandemic protocols are the best I've experienced. A Korean-Chinese restaurant? Duuuuuuude, that's totally awesome! Well, my S/O and I were initially going to eat at a nearby Mexican restaurant until he found this place. To be honest, he wasn't digging the Mexican restaurant anyway. I instantly looked up the restaurant on yelp and was glad to know that they had high ratings. We walked in and was seated right away. The lady comes by really quick and says, "Wha you laike to drink?" I was completely thrown off her demeanor was a little rude. I mean dude, I didn't even get to sit down yet lol. S/O had chow mein and lemon chicken while I ordered some spicy seafood noodle soup. After a few minutes, his lemon chicken comes out and we thought, great! It came out super quick. He started eating a few pieces of the chicken will he waited for his chow mein. After 8 minutes or so, my soup came... with no signs of our chow mein coming lol. My S/O eventually finished more than half the plate of the lemon chicken until I finally flagged the waitress, who by the way, yelled across the room saying, "yaaa?" I said, "where's our chow mein?" All we got was, "Oh it's coming." She heads to the kitchen and comes out with the chow mein and didn't apologize whatsoever. So my S/O ended up eating his chow mein alone. My soup was very flavorful and spicy. My soup had loads of shrimp, clam, and cuttlefish. It was yummy and hot. It sort of relieved my tooth pain which was nice. 3 stars for now due to the subpar (crappy) service. We'll definitely be back to give it another try. read more

Very dirty kitchen that you can see when you go to the restroom. Noodles are very soggy and flavorless. We had both soy bean paste noodle and Korean spicy seafood noodles (jjampong). The soy bean paste noodle was the worst one we have ever had. The jjampong broth was the only good thing, but the noodles are soggy as well. The Korean fried chicken has a bad chicken smell, I think they either used poor quality unfresh chicken or did not use wine or other spices well enough. Please be aware, stay away. read more

The owner seems to be Chinese-Korean ( Jja Jang myun and Jjambbong were created by Chinese-Koreans to match the taste buds of Koreans). The portions are more than enough. We were craving Asian chicken wings like San Tung so I found this place for dinner. The wings are good and juicy and isn't as honey-y but still veryyy good. I was basic and got the sweet and sour soup. We also got the black bean noodles and I thought it would taste different than it was but it is exactly black bean sauce in noodles. Ate here w/GF prior, to going to a concert at Shoreline Amp. Ordered pot stickers (asked that they come out before the main dishes, to give us time to eat them). Of course, the pot stickers came out a minute before the 2 main dishes (mongolian beef and honey walnut prawns). We also ordered pork fried rice but it came out when we were done with the meal (so, I sent it back). We ordered ice tea too and when we asked for refills, that took (almost) forever too. At $2.50 each, this service 'should' have way been better too. The food was very good. The service was terrible. I specifically asked the waiter to bring out the food with timing, especially the pot stickers appetizer! Then, when the fried rice came out after we were done, I was very curt about sending it back and giving me the bill. It (basically) spoiled the meal for me. While the waiter (who acted like he was 'new'), brought me the bill he did not take my credit card for over 10-minutes. So, I left cash and much less of a tip than I would have if he would have taken my credit card. The restaurant was NOT full. Including our table for two, there were 3 other tables with 2 persons and one w/4. So, there should have been NO excuse for poor service. In my opinion, the service was so poor, I would not return to this place. Even though the food was good. They couldn't even follow my easy directions? They need more/better/less lazy help. This review is long overdue. While I'm sure a lot of the other dishes are amazing, when we think of Koong's we basically are craving their Zha Jiang Mien (black bean noodle), the dry fried chicken wings, and the korean style sweet and sour pork. Those 3 dishes are really great. The zha jiang mien is like that dish you had when you were younger and could never find it again, the taste is that amazing classic chinese korean noodle that you've been searching for. We've had san tung and the chicken wings here are on that level (think blasphemy? eat it hot and fresh, you'll see!). The sweet and sour pork comes with the sauce on the side, so the pork stays crispy, genius. Perhaps we will venture out someday and try the other dishes, but for now we'll keep coming back for the tried and true. read more

The food here is so good! It's not your typical Chinese restaurant..it's Chinese-Korean! Even better! I've been here twice and always end up ordering the same thing because it's THAT good! - Dry Black Bean Sauce Noodle - Korean Style Sweet & Sour Pork (really good w/ the black bean noodles) - Dried Fried Chicken Wings I've always ate the instant black bean sauce noodles at home but never tried the authentic one in restaurants. This one is way better than the instant ones! The black bean sauce flavor is much stronger and has more flavor. But make sure you don't over do it with the sauce. I tried eating the noodles with ALL of the sauce last time and it was way too strong for me. Unless you're a black bean sauce lover, then go for it! I learned after that to just pour enough in my noodles. I also love how much onions they put in there but beware..your breath will be kicking after! If you order this, try the Korean style sweet & sour pork with it! It's really good together! I like how they keep the pork and soup separate so the pork stays crispy. Just dip the pork in the soup & eat the veggies with it. Tip: Pour a little bit of white vinegar on the pork, it enhances the flavor! ;) Omg! The Dried fried chicken wings are so bomb here! Have you guys tried the chicken wings from San Tung in SF? Well, I think the chicken wings here are so much better! It has so much flavor and the sauce is finger licking good! Koong's is one of my go-to places to grab dinner, especially when I'm feeling lazy. It's less than five minutes from home and it's open pretty late so it's super convenient! The food is good too so it's always an easy decision to choose to eat here. Their menu is a combination of Chinese and Korean dishes. I've tried a couple of them by now and so far everything was good. My most commonly ordered dishes are probably the Fish in Hot Chili Oil and the dried chicken wings. Other dishes I've tried are the black bean noodles, honey walnut prawns, fried rice, and mapo tofu. I usually get my food to-go from here but I have dined in one or two times. The service is fine and the lady who gave me my food to-go last time was very nice :) It doesn't usually seem very crowded so you won't have to wait if you come here! Koong's is a cozy Chinese restaurant that opens til midnight. It's not going to blow you away with its food, but it doesn't have to. It's comfort food - it's nostalgic. I can see myself stopping by here for takeout after a long day. Mabo tofu - 5/5. Koong's uses soft tofu, which I like. Went great with rice and had the right amount of spiciness. We've been here several times now, for both dine-in and to-go. Each time, we have never been disappointed in the quality of the food. We've tried several dishes, and our favorites include: - Black Mushroom and Baby Bok Choy (sometimes we ask to replace the bok choy with broccoli, and they always happily accommodate this request) - Chinese Chicken Salad (delicious salad dressing -- not too sweet and not too heavy) - Braised Tofu & Vegetables (I've ordered trays of these for parties twice now, and both times they were a hit) - Egg Foo Young - Vegetable Fried Rice They are always busy whenever we are there (which is a good sign!), but our to-go orders are ready when they say they will be; and whenever we dine in, the food comes out promptly. I've always been looking for a local version of San Tung's famous dry fried chicken wings after moving back to SJ from SF. I ordered some for takeout and found that the sauce was very close to San Tung's, but definitely not as crispy. First I ordered Pot Stickers and the Mongolian Beef lunch with Egg Fried Rice. I received my soup and soda right away. Then I received my main dish. I love Mongolian Beef. This was so spicy that it was almost inedible. The Egg Fried Rice was nothing more that the steamed rice with egg in it. When I was completely finished with my lunch, the pot stickers showed up.
