A hidden gem for Korean style spicy seafood noodle soup jjamppong and black bean sauce noodle jajangmyeon. The noodle texture for both noodle dishes is just the right chewiness. The soup was very flavorful but doesn't give you the thirst feeling after eating a bowl of soup full of MSG. You can also request different level of spiciness depends on how spicy you can tolerate. Each time I was there for the spicy noodle soup, I always see Korean customers enjoying their Korean-style noodle dishes as well. The owner is also really nice. LIFESAVERS!!!! Got to the restaurant around 9:15pm (and they close at 9:30pm). Kinda worried, so I asked them if it's okay that I'm going to place an order for about 15 people. The lady was nice and also recommended some stuff since this was my first time there. We ordered: Fried rice (2 orders) - pretty good, it actually had a little flavor to it so you didn't really need to add anything. Chow mien (2 orders) - the usual Fried pork spare ribs - Delicious ... the pork was cut into smaller pieces (kinda looked like calamari), easy to munch on. It had a good amount of flavor to it. Garlic chicken - yummy ... fried chicken with a hint of garlic =) Veggie with Tofu - very tasteful ... loved the tofu (fried) mixed in with a med-spicy sauce. String beans with beef - Very good ... the beans were fresh and was not overcooked. It still had that "snap" sound when bitting into it. Kung Pao Chicken - chicken was not overcooked and a nice spicy taste to it. They also provided plates, forks, spoons, napkins, soy sauce, chopstick, and fortune cookies (way more then enough for everyone). Everyone enjoyed the food and there wasn't much leftovers. While all their dishes are good there are 2 MUST HAVES... 1) Hot Wings 2)"white skin noodle dish" I only know the name of it in Chinese, but that wasabi/sesame dressing is ridiculous. Unlike other places that decide the sauce should be slimy, the prawns sub-par, and the battering kind of soggy, Koong's honey walnut prawns are absolutely to die for. This place has the best Won Ton soup around. I like to eat the Koong's Won Ton soup as a meal. It has tons of chicken, won tons, and veggies. It even has some shrimps. All you need is some Chili paste and a spoon. Their other food is very good also. I've had a lot of their chicken and beef entrees along with various fried rice and chow mein dishes. The server told me dumplings take 20 minutes... I was like SCORE... Everything made to order ... Wow how awesome! Many people eating at location. Koong's is a family style Chinese-American restaurant. Expect to find entrees designed to please American palates. The menu is long with many for-European-Americans staples such as mu shu pork, chow mein, and chicken salad. The prices are comparatively low with most a la carte items going for $7 to $9. There are also prix fix group dinners with limited entree choices for $8 to $13 per person. Our favorite entrees include beef with Chinese green beans in garlic sauce, garlic calamari, baby bok choy with black mushroom, and kung pao chicken (with the heat turned down). None of these is a stand out but all were made competently and served quickly. Be warned that if you order an appetizer, the server will not bring out your entrees until you have finished the appetizer (unless you request otherwise). Koong's chicken salad does not come with cilantro but does use horseradish (wasabi) in the sweet dressing and contains a generous portion of deep fried chicken breast meat. If you are not ethnic Chinese or do not expect to find authentic Chinese dishes, this is the place for you. Any night we have been to Koong's there have always been a few patrons seated on the stools at the small bar located near the door, but most of them are not Asians. You will probably never have to wait for a table at Koong's. The wait staff is friendly and service has been very good. There is a large TV screen usually showing Travel Channel shows at one end of the dining room. The voices of the bar patrons provides a nice background of humorous conversation, too. Went to try this place since they are fairly close to where I live. The first thing is the restaurant is a bit oddly laid out. They have a very small bar in the front, and we sat there waiting for our to go order and the whole time nobody was at the bar or offered us drinks. The cashier/hostess are all the way in the back where there is room up front for them. As for the food most of the dishes were not good. The sweet and sour pork we got was pretty bland. Other dishes were a little salty, just not good over all so I doubt we will come back. The staff though was very friendly and fast. read more

They have Korean/Chinese style dishes. I love their JJAMBBONG (Spicy seafood Noodle). As everyone knows Chinese restaurants uses alot of MSG but Koong's seems to use very minimal when you taste their foods. I normally go in the evenings and you can enjoy a nice quiet dinner and the owners are super nice. Downside??Maybe the restrooms can have some work done? read more

Best chinese and korean fusion foods!!! Their szechuan spicy seafood noodles is actually a korean fusion food and their signature dish. And its the best ever!!! I would give this place 5 stars because it has everything I love about a local eatery. Family owned staff, it's quiet, good prices, and very fresh food. However, the food sometimes varies. It's never always amazing - Once in a while we get a hit of over-battered chicken or beef that doesn't taste as fresh as other places. Not that it's bad, but it's just a little chewier (maybe it's the cut? I don't know) but either way it's just slightly inconsistent. Overall though the food is excellent so it definitely earns the 4.. I almost always get honey walnut chicken, which is almost like desert for me because it's nice and sweet. Ordered for pick up and had to still wait around 5-10 minutes after the time I requested. Got honey walnut prawns, mapo tofu, pan fried noodles. Everything was good, nothing obviously oh my god amazing. The lady that served me was nice though. It looked like they skimped on the honey walnut prawns, there wasn't much in the box :( and they poured the sauce over it already so it was soggy and not crispy like I prefer. Oh well. Maybe I'll come back and dine in next time instead...but there are certainly other Chinese restaurants that are better. The price is good though, for one! read more

Okay, service may be good and the lunch specials are very affordable. After that, Koong's fails to impress. The egg roll was greasy and it tasted like the oil it was fried in was way over due for a change. Our combination lunch plate with noodles and beef broccoli was nothing to write home about. We also tasted the house special won ton soup. The number of ingredients included with the won ton was generous, but the soup base was bland and the won ton needed some chili sauce to waken it up. The fried chicken alone is worth going to Koong's. Soooo good! Crispy, spicy, and so flavorful. Also love their shredded pork and garlic sauce. On busy nights, service might be slow because they have a small staff, but it's still worth the wait. First 2-star review!!! Got some explaining to do I went in here with my family. We weren't completely sure what we wanted, so we asked the waitress what dishes were popular here. She actually fumbled a while, not giving an answer. That concerned me a bit, as not having a popular or preferred dish shines a red light in my head. When she went back to the dish room, I could hear very loud noises in the kitchen, louder than my family talking. I was wondering if they we're arguing, but made it a somewhat unpleasant experience that day. We get one dish she recommends, which was beef with green onions, yang jiang pie, Jjaum bong (spicy seafood soup), and house fried rice. First of all, the dishes were all on the bland side of things. So if you like to taste some nice, strong flavors, this is not the place for you. When I ate the fried rice, I felt something crunchy. Upon closer inspection, I noticed it was an egg shell. I did not mention this to staff as I had already finished more than half of it, but was quite disappointed. Yang Jiang pie ... my family is used to some strong wasabe flavor in our sauce, but the sauce was also mild. We poured it all on the veggie clear noodle salad, and it did not phase any of us. At all. Granted we'really Korean but still, I am pretty weak to spicy foods. The spicy seafood soup however was the ONLY exception. NECKS STRONG SPICY SAUCE. So hot that, my family could not finish/enjoy it . *Too* hot. The only non-bland food on our list. In short, you like strong nice flavors? Then this is not the place for you. On the positive, the food tasted on the healthier side of Chinese/Korean foods I've had. True, maybe they had an off day. Stuff happens. And maybe I was harsher than normal, being my b-day dinner and all. I recommend their walnut shrimp! During lunch hours, I eat here quite often. Lunch specials are under $10. and the food is very tasty. Lunch specials offer complimentary soup and hot tea. You can tell them not to add MSG and they wont. I tried everything on their lunch menu and I've liked them all. This is one of our few go-to restaurants in the South Bay! They serve both American-style and Korean-style Chinese dishes. We personally go for the Korean-Chinese food. We order the Jjangmyun (black bean noodles), Jjambbong (Szechuan-style seafood noodles) and Tangsooyuk (sweet and sour fried pork). All three are exquisite and complement each other well - savory, sweet, sour and spicy are covered by these three classic dishes. The restaurant is operated by a woman and her son so the service can be a bit slow as they get busy, but they are extremely helpful and hard working. We strongly recommend this place to get your Chinese comfort food fix! It's a must-go in the South Bay! read more
