Just moved to the area a week ago and was craving some of my moms home cooking. I was pretty hopeful of this place based on reviews and pictures. I ordered mapo tofu and Hong Kong style crispy noodles. Both dishes were alright. The mapo tofu was made differently than what I'm used to. It had a red oil layer on top which made me feel a little disgusted knowing my intake of it. The dish needed something a little extra, it just tasted very bland. Same with the crispy noodles. It's supposed to have chicken, beef and shrimp and I was only given one shrimp... why even bother including shrimp when you're only going to the customer 1 piece, right? Since so many review of this place compare the dry fried chicken wing with San Tung in SF (which caused for me and the family to try this place while in the south bay), I feel the strong need to clarify. Is it comparable to San Tung base off chicken wing? NOT by a long shot. The seafood noodle soup was decent but again not close to San Tung. When ordering we asked for less spicy after waiter confirmed that it can't be made none spicy. I specifically said it was for my 6 year old that love San Tung's wings...why in hell is there jalapenos everywhere? Service was pleasant and attentive hence 2 star. Bottomline...with so many Chinese/Korean options in the south bay I would not return here for another meal. read more

Koong's is a great local Chinese/Korean asian fusion restaurant, probably more a 4.5 but rounded up for consistency and service. I've been coming here for years with my family and the owners are so kind and welcoming. Recently, I came here with a pretty large party (around 20 people?) and they were able to get us a reservation and recommend lots of dishes. Some highlights were the chicken wings (SOO GOOD), honey walnut prawns, fish with black bean sauce, and Koong's tofu with minced meat. We had already tried some take out food from here a while back, and it was pretty good, so we decided to stop in and have some dinner. I was really happy to see Black Mushrooms on the menu, in fact, with Baby Bok Choi which I also really like. So that was one of the things we ordered. Recently I've ordered some items for pick up, food was hot, fresh, and made to order. They were able to accommodate my special request (a certain vegetable combination which wasn't on the menu) which was going above and beyond which earns them 5 stars from me. I had a terrible experience with ordering food here. I have not received my food, nor did Koon's assist me in getting my money back. After my delivery was 30 min late, I called to check on the status. I was told that the food was ready, but it was not out for delivery yet. After another 30 min of waiting, I called again and got the same answer meaning the food had been standing there for over 30 min. I asked to cancel my order and get a refund, but the person I talked to did not feel responsible in resolving the issue. Instead I was asked to call another service that aparently does the delivering. At the end I got no food and had to call at several places to find out who would refund me. read more

To be fair, these dishes don't seem to be exactly what the restaurant is known for, so perhaps some of their more famous dishes taste a bit more special. Decided to give this place a try based on the reviews. Went there expecting this to be a Korean restaurant so when we drove up and saw the neon sign on the door that read "Chinese Food," we had a bad feeling and contemplated going somewhere else. Well, in short, this place (owned by Korean I believe) serves non-authentic Chinese food. Their offerings are definitely more for caucasians. (And most diners there on the day we visited were caucasians.) We ordered the black bean sauce noodles as well as the spicy seafood noodle, both of which seem popular choices with fellow Yelpers. The first was very mediocre and the latter had noodles that were overcooked in a broth that was alright. Wish the broth was actually spicy. Service was rather slow too. The restaurant wasn't even busy and it took a long time to get our food. Maybe if the kitchen didn't take its own sweet time, our spicy seafood noodle won't have noodles that taste too soft? I wanted to try jajjangmyeon around here since its closer to home than Santa Clara. I walked in and I was expecting it go be more korean like but its actually a very chinese style restaurant. The menu has combos for lunch, but like i said i got jajjangmyeon, tangsuyuk, and my bf got another order of mapo tofu It did feel like they were rushing us out but they got crowded for lunch quickly especially since a lot of business people tend to go here. The portions are relatively big for only two people and everything was really good. I recommend if you're just looking for a nice ace for dinner! read more

I ordered wonton noodles soup and some other dishes for to go. Since I was waiting for food preparation, I called a cup small bowl of hot and sour soup. Upon paying my bill, I asked the waiter for the copy of the bill because he just told me the total amount. He then looked kinda uneasy: when he summed up everything, it didn't come out right (around ten dollars less than the amount he charged me on my debit card). Then he recalculated but this time, he raised the cost of two cup of hot & sour soup (from $3 on his scratch paper, at the beginning) to $5.00; and so on with other items, then he just told me the amount, same with the one I was charged, without justifying each item. The whole time I was there, I had to keep a good distance because it seemed like he did not brush his teeth at all; and despite the long distance, he still smelled pretty badly. I don't know if the ownership has changed, but I usually saw different lady there, along with different staff. Anyway, with this bad experience, I would never go back! read more

Milpitas local here, came here for the Korean/Chinese Jjajangmyeon (black bean sauce noodle), and was disappointed. Was expecting something like Palace Chef on Thornton Ave in Fremont, but was far off from it... 2 servers on an non-busy night. Service was okay but was WAY TOO slow. We waited for 30 mins at least for our noodle and food, while a person was complaining loudly about his take out order being 30-45 mins, and at least 3~5 tables un-cleaned. They ended up giving a $5 refund to the takeout customer. By the way, after I verified my credit card statement, I was overcharged on the tip portion, where a decent amount was given already... All my friends got their food.. and im still waiting for my food.. close to an hour passed and i asked about my order and the waiter says its coming out.. waited another 10 min and still no food... i called the waiter and he says its coming.. 1 hour for jjamp bbong.. really??? One of my co-workers retired and we had lunch there. 17 people came and we used the one round table in the restaurant and other tables were placed close together to acomodate everyone. I made sure to visit the restaurant before hand and picked out the menu asking my co-workers what food they would like to eat. We decided on eating lemon chicken, honey walnut prawns, chow mein noodles, beef with vegetables, and a few more. The food came hot and I made sure no msg is used (although they could not promise on the meat as some marinade is used to give flavor on the food the marinade may have msg) My co-workers enjoyed the lunch, but overall I thought the honey walnut prawns was breaded too heavily, could have been better. A hidden gem of Milpitas! Came here on a whim for a Friday date night and was pleasantly surprised to find a quiet atmosphere. From the outside, it doesn't look like much, but is plenty spacious and ambient inside. I felt very welcomed! My boyfriend and I were accommodated quickly and had our food sitting in front of us in about 10 minutes despite a large party that had just arrived after us. Portions are perfect, menu has plenty of variety, and the prices are fair for my college student budget. The hot and sour soup was DELICIOUS! My personal favorite thing to order off the appetizer menu is the fried prawns. Need any more convincing? I had once hosted two Chinese exchange students in high school and brought Koong's home for dinner for them to sample one night. I've always ordered take out so this review is just for their take-out. Good customer service, their always super nice :) I always order on the phone and it's done with 10 minutes. I tried their Mongolian beef bbq and sadly it lacked in flavor and it was too greasy for me. It also came with white rice, so this dish is VERY heavy. I felt so gross after eating this meal. This is a family owned place. Small and intimate but absolutely delicious and great prices. The owners are quick to remember their clients and are personally out on the floor interacting with the costumers. Eat here at your own risk. First, the server knowingly sticks her finger in our sweet and sour sauce and pretends she didn't. She doesn't even acknowledge it and just wipes her finger on her pants. Then, after the dinner, our bill was $41. We paid $30 in cash (a $20 bill and two $5 bills) and asked for the rest to be put on a card. She gives us a credit card bill for $26 instead of $11. We tell her it's a mistake and she won't even acknowledge us. We've never felt so cheated. Really? She wouldn't even look in the cash drawer to possibly realize her mistake. Wow. I have been spoiled with great Chinese restaurants in the past and this place just doesn't compare. The decor is lackluskter and the bar fits like ten people total. We went for lunch and it was really affordable. I got a meal deal with steamed rice, broccoli beef, and crab rangoons for $8.50. The rice and beef were good but I didn't really enjoy the rangoons. They gave us a round of soup on the house which was nice and they serve canned beverages which I like better than fountain drinks. The place was just okay. I have nothing really good to say or really bad to say about it so I'll just leave it at that. read more

I have been coming here for a couple of years now and nothing much has changed but the interior which is great! I always ordered the honey walnut prawns or the salt and pepper prawns, a must have for me, then random items each visit. For cold days I recommend their wonton soup and their sweet and sour soup, very soothing. Just to be aware, it is family style! The employees are very nice and one of the ladies remember as the girl who orders prawns, whether over the phone for take out or dining in. I see complaints about the food being too greasy, but it's like.. ITS CHINESE FOOD. A lot of Asian food is greasy to begin with. I absolutely love it here, it's a Milpitas gem to me.
