We all settled on a variety of dishes. I was being a basic dude and had eggs, hash browns, bacon and a bowl of fruit. Oh and the coffee... oh, The Coffee! Everything came out in a timely fashion. We came here for our last breakfast before heading home. It was surprisingly busy on a Monday morning, but the wait wasn't too bad. There is an iPad that you check in on by the entrance and a couple shops nearby where you can browse while waiting. The menu is extensive and it was hard to choose, but I got the Kauai Benedict and absolutely loved it. My bf really liked his traditional loco moco too. Initial impression: Busy, pricey but everything in Kauai is pricey, decent menu options. This seems to be a real hot spot on the east side of the island. This place was packed even at 12pm in the afternoon. We got there around 10:50am and put our names on their digital waitlist and did not get into a seat until 11:40am (that should give you a picture of how busy this place can get). There was 15 people ahead of us so that gave us some time to explore the nearby shops which was fine with us! The digital waitlist (through Yelp) was pretty dang accurate and once we were number two in line we were pretty much sat right away. The ambiance was very "Kountry Kitchen" esque. It was warm and pretty comfortable looking. The floors were a tad messy but that's to expect with the kind of turnover these guys are having. Our waiter was ok. He did not seem to be able to spark conversation naturally and it seemed like we did most of the talking. There was no "Ok so what can I get you", instead it was me and my wife just saying "we'll get this and that". There also wasn't a lot of "check up"; our waters were empty nearly all of the time so we had to "ration" what we drank and the other drinks we ordered we had to continually ask for refills. Now the wait for the food (minus the waiter not taking our orders for at least 15 minutes) took around 10 minutes, which wouldn't be to bad if the preceding incident had not occurred. Once the food got to us let me say, wow! It was incredibly delicious. I got the Kauai Benedict and my wife got the Caramelized Pineapple French Toast. Pictures wouldn't do it justice! It was delicious is all I will say. The Benedict was cooked to perfection and the combination of the salmon with the pork was especially flavorful. I also did a side order of Spam which was also cooked to perfection! You have to try it as it's a staple food ! All in all the experience was not bad, just a little off in some spots. The food was delicious, the employees were very nice, and it was a great spot to sit down for brunch! The price did come out to around $66 (plus tip) so as with everything in Kauai be prepared to pull out the wallet! I would recommend this establishment but with a disclaimer that the wait may be long so make it ahead of time and also be prepared to eat some delicious food! I'm very confused seeing good reviews for this restaurant. Just went for brunch and ordered the eggs Benedict and an omelette. The bread was overcooked. The ham was way too thick. The hashbrowns were burnt. But the cornbread was easily the worst cornbread I have ever had in my life. Feels like a tourist trap. They were overflowing with people when we got here. We were almost certain that there will be an exhausting wait. I am many things but definitely not a patient person when I am hungry . I was almost ready to walk out after 5 minutes but they had a two-person table open up fortunately and we were ushered in much to the disappointment of those who were waiting for longer but had a bigger party size. We got there fairly early but still was barked at to sign in at the iPad to be put on the waitlist by Dominique. Food was nothing extraordinary, "homemade" corn beef hash plate for $23 was most definitely canned palms and portion was small. Owner's niece Dominique loudly made fun of tourist who came back for their table in 7 minutes "your table gets given away after 5 minutes" rules are rules but after they walked away she joked with servers "it's not my fault you don't know how to read you text" She's brash and makes the experience horrible! Yes! The food here lived up to it's high reputation. This is a comfortable and quirky casual place with friendly servers and a big menu. I started with a pineapple iced tea that was delicious and the pineapple made it unnecessary to add any sugar. My husband tried a big glass of watermelon juice. It tasted like you were drinking a watermelon---I had been concerned that it would be watery, but no, it was so good! I really enjoyed the eggs Benedict with bacon and avocado. The bacon was crunchy and thick, the eggs poached perfectly, and the avocado was fresh and plentiful. The potatoes were crisp which was what I ordered. My fiancé wanted to try this spot for breakfast so we joined the waitlist and waited outside while our table was ready. They could use some trees or cover outside as waiting in the blazing sun for 20+ mins isn't an enjoyable experience. Received a text that our table was ready - great! As we were walking over another text came in that we were removed from the waitlist a minute later (screenshot). Confusion. We check in with the hostess and what I presume is the manager states that we were texted 10 minutes ago and that we were taken off the waitlist for not showing up in time (you are allotted 5 mins to check in after receiving a text). I tell her that we were only notified a minute ago and try to show her my phone with the text notifs. She proceeds to berate me and tells me to "check myself", suffice to say we do not need to eat at an establishment with such horrendous customer service. I opted for hash browns while he chose a side of fruit and we both decided upon corn bread. My omelette was HUGE- definitely enough for 2 meals. It needed a little more seasoning, but I just doused it with tabasco. My boyfriend's entree was also a bit under seasoned, but salt and pepper fixed that quickly. We were both looking for a good Loco Moco, and Kountry Style Kitchen lived up to all the Yelp hype. I got the Kalua Pork, and my girlfriend got the hamburger patty. I should probably start with the amazing aroma that greeted us as we entered this restaurant. We knew right away that we were in for a treat. We were sat immediately, and our server (I wish I remembered her name) was really friendly and told us the specials, but we both opted for the Traditional Loco Moco. On the day we were there, the house's special juice was pineapple juice, and we both got a glass of it. It was the best pineapple juice either of us had ever experienced. It was so vibrant and delicious. Additionally, there was some really cool art adorning the walls. I highly recommend you try this place, as you will not be disappointed. After our breakfast, we decided to walk along the path and walked clear on up to the Pineapple Dump (Historic site) and just enjoyed the beautiful weather. This place is very popular for locals and tourists alike, so it's highly recommended to make reservations online before you arrive. Older lady at front (owner/manager ?) we checked in with could've been more hospitable but she lacked friendliness at most. The restaurant was packed. We were seated by the restrooms and kitchen. It was very loud, lots of staff traffic, noisy with staff banging dishes and what not, and there was a strong breeze of cold air constantly hitting me. Buuuuuut, our server made up for all that! She was so sweet, made small talk with us, and made our experience enjoyable. We ordered the mushroom Swiss burger with chips and hubby ordered the KK omelette. We walked out with $180 later (before tip) with all of us getting our own plate of food(we often share) we also got 2 coffee drinks and two juice drinks, the food was very good, love all the decore, you also get 2% off if you pay with cash, which we did not do. God awful temperament, attitude, and character from the Kountry Kitchen owner Susana. From the get go, the hostess stand was empty, in lieu of her deciding she was better off walking around and not taking any questions the many confused people had with no clear indication on where to wait, nor signage for any outside food or drink allowed. It was tucked away lazily behind the counter, which in turn caused the owner to raise her voice rudely, and hotly to the point that two of our guest simply nodded and walked out of the building not wanting to spend their money in support of a horrible individual. Once seated, one party member left a 1 star review over the incident, especially with how all other waiters and waitress seemed to be in distress and fear of the owner as she stomped along rudely around customers, tables, and ignoring the front once more. Susana, in an astonishing show of 'professionalism', approached our table asking for said name of our party member over the simple review and began to berate our table for it. This in turn started some argument amongst our party and the Kountry Kitchen owner that resulted in her rolling her eyes at us and stating "I can do whatever I want I'm the owner". So our party simply stood up and left grateful for the fact our food had not been given to us yet and the owner Susana still continued to mouth us off and refused to elaborate to her wait staff on their confusion of us up and leaving. A party member of ours explained to them what had happened and the waiter looked embarrassed and appalled by the fact and apologized profusely to us over the owner Susan actions. I will rave to all of our local family and they will spread the word. NEVER BRING YOUR MONEY HERE. There is no need to support such an appalling restaurant owner. Otherwise, the staff was amazing and nothing but kind, so it's such a shame Susana has to ruin it. read more
