Cozy place, we sat outside and it was lovely! What we liked: sake. Best flights of sake, very interesting, great variety. Example was really good. They had a drink of the day with sake, sangria and pomegranate, it was delicious!! Lovely meal of Ramen, a fall seasonal special curry and yakisoba noodles left us satisfied, full and ready to come back again. We had such big portions that we can enjoy the leftovers later. Finally got to try Koya Kitchen on my way down from the mountain, and WOW, I was SO impressed with the flavor of the Ponzu Avocado Fried Rice. We stumbled upon Koya Kitchen after a day of summer skiing at Timberline. What a magical hidden gem! One friend that I was with is restricted to a gluten free diet and had plenty of options. She ordered the fennwl mint lamb and vegetable coconut curry and was not disappointed. Everything looked amazing. I ordered the yakisoba with chicken, and our third friend ordered the ramen in miso broth. We had potstickers as appetizers and everything was delicious. We ordered outside at the food cart and came inside to the bar to eat. It was incredibly calm, comfortable, and quiet. The drink options were extensive and we were totally satisfied. We tried this place because all our favorites were busy and only offering limited seating. We got to Koya, ordered from their cart, got drinks from the bar, and sat in the heated tent. The poke bowl was super fresh and delicious. My wife's Katsura curry was also reportedly very good. We hung out by one of the pit fires for a bit after dinner. What a diamond in the rough! Loved chatting with one of the owners about her travels, and she explained that the other owner, her b/f, had spent years in Japan, where he learned his cooking skills. Stopped by this place right as they opened at lunch time, following a hike on the Salmon River. It is basically a take out operation at the moment. You can't eat at their indoor dining area because of COVID closures, although they have outdoor seating too. I ordered yakisoba noodles with chicken. It was quite good and seemed to be something that might be more like a home-made, Japanese comfort food version of this dish. The serving size was easily enough for two. And, a new discovery today- it was topped off with something called Kewpie Mayonnaise. Did a little research on this and apparently it is a favorite Japanese condiment. It is made with rice vinegar and sesame, giving it a distinctive flavor that perfectly compliments the yakisoba noodles, meat and veggies. Now I want to go out and buy some. If you are in the Mt. The atmosphere of this place is 5/5, the food is 4/5, and the drinks are great. Total hole in the wall I've been driving by for the last couple of years and finally decided to stop in, and I'm really glad I did. The Philadelphia roll, Cali roll, and spicy tuna roll were all really good. Also the green tea cheesecake was so good. Stopped here after an epic day of skiing at Hood Meadows and came in hungry. We parked in back and couldn't help but notice the wonderful smells coming from the kitchen as we walked around to the front entrance. We were greeted by the owner, Jolynne, who is a warm and gracious host. She takes the time to visit with her guest and makes your dining an intimate and family like experience. My wife had the Udon and loved every bit of it and I had the Yaki Meshi, which Jolynne EASILY modified for my paleo lifestyle. Both dishes were very tasty with fresh ingredients and not overly salty. The Pineapple Saké was my first and very good! The picnic table style of seating makes it easy to mingle and visit with other guest sitting next to you, if you wish. Easy going date night with my sweetheart! This is by far one of our new favorite places to eat on the mountain. The environment is beautiful and unique and their outdoor beer garden is so inviting. Tonight was the second meal we have enjoyed at Koya Kitchen. We ordered a few items to eat and we each enjoyed a Friday night libation after working a long week. I've been waiting to try their Hot Sake Toddy. It was so tasty and perfect for this wet chilly evening. Hubby and I shared a Spicy Salmon Roll, an order of Gyoza and we split their Coconut Curry dish from their "specials" menu. All three items were tasty. Our only suggestion would be to add a little more chicken to the curry dish. We only found a total of four chunks mixed in. Other than that everything was spot on. We left very feeling very satisfied and we're already looking forward to our next visit. Both times we have been here we have thoroughly enjoyed interacting with your friendly staff. Great dinner last night in this tiny quaint little Japanese / Indian restaurant. One owner expect many years in Japan cooking and the other in India, so they have mostly Japanese but some good looking Indian dishes. Marianne had the gyoza and edamame and I had the ramen with shoyu broth. We both loved it. They have a great craft beer selection to complement their menu.
