Kolache = Reason I Am Getting Fatter So this guy at work brings Krispy Kremes to the office every Wednesday. Being no stranger to KK, I can normally abstain. Then the rat-b*stard started to bring kolaches. Well, golly gee, THANKS. They are soooo the bane of my existence. My favorite? The ham and cheese. Thanks for asking. So yeah, today, after almost a year of living next door to KK and not acquiescing to their gooey charm, I caved. The place looked deserted when we were pulling up but went through the drive through. They were open and the guy let us know that they only had about 6 different type of donuts available. I got 2 of the glazed and they were cold...granted, the "light" wasn't on so I wasn't expecting them to be hot but they were cold as if they were sitting in a refrigerator. Krispy Kreme is an empty corporate shell of what this company once was back in my youth in southwest Georgia. Those were some good donuts. I was even mildly excited to find one in Hong Kong during my travels there. The donuts were about half the size of their American counterparts, but not a single one featured the signature "kreme" filling inside? Huh? Wha? That's like McDonald's not having a Big Mac on the menu. Yeah I wasn't surprised when they pulled out of Hong Kong and I guess the mainland stores never happened either. But really I just don't think I can ever bring myself to eat at one again in Austin after the service received recently. I had my order on the counter and was waiting to pay and for my coffee. The girl drew about half of the coffee, mumbled something. I assumed they were out and she was starting a new batch since she was fiddling around with the machine. She didn't even explain what was going on and walked away doing other tasks for several minutes. Other workers went and got coffee from the same machine for the drive thru. My God, do I love donuts. Homer Simpson and I share that in common, like you would not believe. And these, the Krispy Kremes, are the end -all, be-all of donuts, the kreme de la kreme, if you will. The Uber-Donut. I would give anything to be able to eat these every single day, but I'd be built like Homer Simpson after a while. As it is, I eat them at least three or four times a week, usually just one, maybe two. Want to know why they are the best donuts in the world? 1) They aren't really huge, they are actually a bit skinny when compared to other donuts. Thus, the ratio of bready goodness to yummy frosting is always appropriate. 2) They are always, and I mean always, fresh. Frankly, I'm not sure how any of them could ever stick around long enough to go stale, but if they did, they get tossed. Krispy Kremes are delivered daily to their vendor outlets like Exxon, but are always fresh no matter where you get them. 3) They have their own stores, and those stores smell like what at least some of the rooms in heaven must smell like. 4) (And this is the best one) They understand, and are the only people in the world, who make the Chocolate frosted donut correctly. Most places, you get a glazed donut (yummy) or a donut with chocolate on top of it. At Krispy Kreme, they are pros and would never make such a terrible mistake. However Krispy Kreme breaks the mold in every possible way, they aren't simply donuts they are magical creations of warm gooey goodness. Everyone knows that Krispy Kreme donuts are amazing so it almost seems silly to review the place. They are now serving Kolaches at this location and I got a chance to try them out last night. I must say they are OKAY and not great. I wish they were baked instead of nuked. They obviously nuked them to heat them up because the bread was all soggy. I only enjoy this location because of the manager Sylvester. Every time my mother and I come here Sylvester is so positive and animated. I love his attitude and personality. Dynasty had a horrific attitude. She managed to miss the fact that 6 out of the 12 glazed donuts we ordered were in fact unglazed. We were also missing 2 other donuts. We let her know the order was wrong the second we got it and she slammed the window in our face and then grabbed the 2 missing donuts. She then had an attitude about the unglazed donuts. She said "well then let me see??" We handed her the box and she ripped out of my hand and then proceeded to slam the window shut in our face yet again and began throwing the donuts away individually with a attitude. When she finally got the order right she nearly threw the box at us and slammed the window before we could say anything else. WHAT HAPPENED TO KRISPY KREME? Their donuts used to be the best! So soft, so melt-in-your mouth, the best frosting ever ... They changed somewhere along the line. The donuts are still soft, but they taste different, and the frosting has lost its character -- sweet, sure, but otherwise bland, boring, and even a little weird-tasting. Did they get zapped by the nutrition police? Did they change the formula to remove the big bad saturated fats that made their donuts so super-delicious and tasty? As if I ever ate enough of them to make a difference in my overall diet ... They're DONUTS for gosh sakes. Can't we get away with the occasional guilty pleasure of fatty tasty food? Since with covid, we have been using drive through to order our donuts and there have been several times when we got incorrect order - usually they mess up the custard filled with creme filled. They are open to order inside though - so maybe we will start doing that again to ensure we get correct donuts :( read more

Went the other night and ordered 6 assorted donuts and a milk. First of all, when given the box every donut was wrong. Not 1 donut I asked for was in the box. Let them know and they changed the donuts out. I get home and the milk was not expired according to the bottle, but when I opened it was absolutely curdled. I poured it out and there were chunks and solidified curdles in the bowl. 3 hours after eating the donuts I was in the bathroom puking and 2 days later still am. Only come to this location if you want curdled milk and food poisoning. read more

Oh this free sample thing is the worst. I go in to buy two doughnuts with sprinkles on it and maybe a hot chocolate if its cold. I get the free sample and eat it while waiting to order. Krispy Kreme donuts are the things of imagination. To quote Chris Rock, "If someone told you there was crack in them you'd nod and say, I Knew there was something in them." Place was nice, staff seemed fine and I had a quick business meeting to attend to. I had a regular glazed and then a chocolate covered with milk. See, a simple man. I've never had a yeasty product float away on a breeze like a Krispy Kreme donut. Good stuff. The Mrs. Johnsons, Round Rock donuts debate looms large but currently I'm starting to lean towards Round Rock. It helps that they're just down the street. Day trip to Austin, and just had to stop to get some heart stopping goodies!

Since all the Krispy Kreme's in Houston have shut down, I knew that the hot light would be on the morning we were planning to leave Austin and I knew I had to stop. I think the thing I love most about their plain glazed donuts is that they are not thick and doughy. I don't feel bloated or lethargic after one or even two. I can see that the free sample is great if you picking up a box for family or work - less of an urge to swipe one from the box! The one thing I found funny was their coffee though. They have a medium roast or a bold decaf roast. I like my roasts bold, but I like my caffeine. It's a good thing I don't come here for coffee. read more

MMMM Kolache! Convenient little place to go to since they have drive thru. I don't prefer their donuts unless it's the blueberry one. However I am in love with their Kolaches. They have a soft delicious dough around a sausage link. Most places give you literally a little sausage link However here they have a good size sausage inside. That sounded kind of dirty huh? Anyway, They have a good selection of Kolaches, However I am too scared to try anything new since I prefer my same ole same ole. Today was my birthday and I've been a longtime customer of Krispy Kreme. Usually Krispy Kreme gives a free box of a dozen donuts on your birthday after slamming the rewards email. We went through the drive thru and told them that's what we wanted. When we got to the window the women told us the amount that was due. I said can we please scan our reward. This women asked for our phone number (i assume to look up the reward??) we gave her the number then she repeated the amount due again. We asked to scan it again politely and her voice got more tense as she repeated the amount due once again. We paid the amount and left. I've never had an experience like this here before and i hope it never happens again. Work on your customer service please! read more

If the zombie apocalypse was coming, I'd probably drive a gajillion miles to find a Krispy Kreme. And if I did, I'd definitely go to this particular location due to one of the coolest managers anywhere...Jackie. She's the coolest donut you could ever meet. She's a military veteran and drives like 2 hours one way just to get to work and THEN is the most thoughtful individual I think I've ever met in the restaurant industry. I order a special order of glazed bavarian cream filled shells (something they don't make but only do for just me when I come here) and even when they're crazy busy out the wazoo, Jackie and her team will go out of their way just to make my order for me. It's a level of customer service you just don't see anymore...anywhere. If you visit this Krispy Kreme, say hi to Jackie. Thank her for her service. And then get some deeeelicious donuts. I was very disappointed with one of the lady's there she was white female with red hair she was acting like I was bothering her while she was writing or doing inventory or maybe ordering. But I had bought a dozen of donuts and if they had any hot ones and she said no I should have come on the morning so I still got the cold donuts and two cups of coffee and after I paid and sat down I remember that I have the rewards app and I said ma'am I forgot to to do my app and she said will it's to late for that what I should have done is waited till I got back to north Austin and go to the on 183 research Blvd store they are awesome people there. I take my grandkids there all the time. I really should be going to the Round Rock donuts place. But it a 25 mins drive for me but enough of this not a happy customer read more

The only time I've ever been disappointed in a Krispy Kreme donut is when it was purchased at a gas station in the mid-West ... where there was NO KK around. I'd like to rate this particular location, versus the chain (which is what I'm seeing amongst the previous ratings here). Find a parking spot and start guessing how to get into the place. One option, the shortest distance from point A to point B, is climbing the wall of rose bushes and boulders -- well, that, or, take a left or right to either end of a snakey roundabout sidewalk-entrance leading to the front door. Me personally, I climbed. As you would expect, there is the conveyer belt of doughnut-making processes happening here. And the menu is vast for name with such a trademark product. What's different here -- the atmosphere? Not particularly. Old fashioned seating. Free wifi enabling me to write this very review. Dated music that is inarguably pleasant to the ears. Seasonal decor. All standardly exceptional. Then, I read that the kolaches were made fresh daily, so I ordered one. To my horror came the wad of paper thrown in the microwave placed before me. (I can get that sort of thing at the Burger King across the tracks!) When I asked to sample a pumpkin spice donut, I got shut down. 15 minutes passed "sample time". Who knew. I thought I could charm my way through this one, inquiring about what was what behind the glass (There are no labels like a Dunkin Donuts.) I was reluctantly responded to with vague and nondescript explanations of specialty donuts. Bummer. I'm all about the stoner-food. Just gimme a taste! I made it out at over 10 bucks for milk and coffee, four fat pellets (donuts), and a nuked wade of hope-it's-still-good (kolaches). Love love love this Krispy Kreme! I've lived in South Austin for 6ish years now and over the years, any time I have gone to get breakfast here I am greeted by the nicest people! The man who usually works drive thru is always so incredibly upbeat and happy and always puts a big smile on my face.
