Let me say this: the food is not bad (at least the pad Thai). I have ordered from this restaurant using DoorDash MULTIPLE times. The one time my boyfriend goes in person to order, the owner was extremely rude to him. So much so that he decided to leave rather than give this mans establishment any money. But I convinced him that we should keep ordering because the food wasn't bad and our favorite place (Siamese Bay) isn't available through DoorDash. (I'm obviously feeling a bit lazy these days) NOW, tonight - I ordered through DoorDash again. After 45 minutes, my driver calls me and says that the owner was rude to him and turned him away. He said that the order would take an hour to make, that he's too busy, and to cancel the order. And to the owner: don't you dare respond saying "I don't turn people away please delete your comment". We spent almost $50 and now we get to wait for a goddamn refund. What a waste. Hungry AF. read more

The manager at the restaurant was extremely rude. When my family arrived, he seated us at a table in a corner near the back door and restroom, despite many empty tables in the middle of the restaurant. He claimed the other tables were reserved, but there were no visible reservation signs, and it was several. When we asked another employee for confirmation, she hesitated and gave an uncertain "yes," clearly pressured by the manager. The manager then told us, "This is the table we have, get out." We hadn't done anything to warrant this treatment; we simply walked in. The customer service was shockingly poor, so we left and went to another Thai restaurant in PG. The manager was racist, and he's behavior was discriminatory and unprofessional. If the customer done somthing very rude to the restaurant, I accept that they have the rights of deny the customer, but since we didn't do anything it is just their own problem of worst customer service. I would strongly advise against dining here. You're likely to have a very disappointing experience and waste of your money. read more

Tom Kha Gai soup: had a cup with chicken. It was ok. Chicken tasted over cooked as of it had been sitting around reheated over and over again. The soup lacked depth and was kind of bland. For $6.95 a cup, I expected more in a 10-12 ounce mug. Panang Curry: has it with chicken. It's ok. Flavor of curry is ok. Flat and lacking depth like the soup. Baby corn and veggies are crispy and good. Chicken here though... same as above. Over cooked and not good. So disappointing. Also very little rice given. It's disproportionate to the amount of curry. The rice bowl want filled up all the way. Just barely to the top of the bowl.... I asked for rice to go and got charge $2. Very expensive place. read more

Went there on a Tuesday evening and there were about 5 couples there. All spread apart and the staff wore masks. I am not a Thai food expert, however I cook Thai curries, have been to Thailand 4 times and my son lives in Thailand. So, I probably have 1% more experience with Thai food than the average American. That being said, I thought the food was great. I ordered Panang curry super spicy with chicken. The portions are very generous. The waiter said his mom is the cook. He was super friendly and very efficient. We talked a little about Thailand as he thought I spoke Thai. I know 3 phrases! Great experience and I highly recommended if you are looking for a Thai fix. read more

My favorite local Thai! The vegetables are particularly fresh, the meats are tasty and high quality, and the flavors are both delicious and fresh. We particularly love the chicken satay, soups, pad khee mao, ginger sautéed, and Thai fried rice, but everything is good. They're spot on with their estimated take out time. This is not a place where you want to overestimate how spicy you want your food to be. I like my food pretty spicy and ask for a 2/5 but the rest of my family requests mild. read more

My first time here with my husband on our 15 years anniversary. We're from Sacramento where true authentic Asian fusion foods lives and to my surprise found this gem in Monterey. Customer services was excellent. We were seated right away. Order was good in the timely manner. Food was fresh. We ordered spicy extra sour papaya salad, med spicy duck curry and panang salmon- one of their specialty. All of the dishes were delicious. The papaya was sour and spicy yet flavorful as well. The duck curry was a surprise to me of how all of the components complement each other so well with the pineapple and tomatoes in there. It's not too sweet but with a slight sweetness of thangy and not overly power by the coconut milk. Overall it was very good. The panang salmon curry was also very nice. It was moist and flaky. The veggies were cook perfectly and the sauce goes very well with the fish. Our overall experience is a 5 stars. Our server was attentive and watered was constantly refilled. MJ and Nudi are the hard working owners of Krua Thai. They prepare delicious, authentic, and fresh Thai food that is made to order each time. I have been in Monterey for 3 months for work. I have been coming here every week and have been wowed by each dish I have ordered. They have kept their staff employed throughout the pandemic, even when the restaurant was closed. If you are looking for delicious and authentic Thai food then I highly recommend this place. But if you are looking for a quick Thai meal and don't care about the flavors much, then please find an alternate. Locals and visitors alike love this place and therefore their small space can have a long wait at peak times. The food was good,, but our waiter, whom I think is the owner or manager was rude. We ordered our food and for one dish, we asked for it spicy. Every dish came out spicy. We asked the waiter if the pad see ew was supposed to be spicy and he said that we indicated that we wanted all of the dishes spicy. We said that we only asked for one dish in particular to be spicy. The owner/manager/waiter proceeded to argue with us. He never clarified with us if we wanted every single dish spicy. He then snatched the dish out of the person's place setting/hand and said he would be make the change only after arguing with us. We didn't mind that he said we said we wanted it all spicy. What was uncalled for was the rude snatching of the food. The table next to us also had a misunderstanding in a dish they ordered, but the staff and the manager/owner approached them nicely said, don't worry, we'll fix it. The food was good, but the rudeness overtook everything. I would never come here again because of how we were treated. If another table can get their misunderstanding fixed in a kind manner, we should get the same service. We were not rude in our question. read more

I was eating the Pad Thai when I got distracted by a commotion on the right side. Two customers brought their two dogs and were trying to pick up food. Looks like they brought the dogs inside by mistake. One of the staff politely asked them to wait outside with their dogs as it's against health code to bring pets inside. The customers started yelling, threw their food to the side of the road and left. Normally I don't leave reviews on Yelp, but I just wanted to support an outstanding business which follows health code. Also, Pad Thai was amazing. Hmmm....I like it. Wanted to love it. There was a wait when we went, but the proprietor was very sweet and apologetic. Apparently they get a ton of take-out business as many people came and went quickly with an order. The restaurant is very family friendly and all I kept wondering is where were these folks coming from as the town seemed very dead during the day. The food was ok. The reason I gave it four stars is that the waiter indulged me by turning off a fan that was blowing intense cold air in my direction. We ordered Yellow Curry, Chicken Satay, and Golden Chicken with fried rice. Everything was quite good, but I found the yellow curry, peanut sauce, and plum Chile sauce to be a touch sweet for me. Finally I found a Thai place close to my new home!! Having just moved out to Carmel from Chicago, I definitely had to do a LOT of food research. I am such a foodie, and I thought I was going to have such a hard time finding good restaurants out here, since the size of the place was so small compared to Chicago. Boy was I wrong....I have found some of my favorite places out here; from Italian to the best breakfast place I have ever been to, Carmel, and the whole Monterey Peninsula, have not let me down. But back to Thai. I went with 5 friends, so we got a nice table for six. The restaurant is pretty small, but it makes it so much more authentic and welcoming. The service was good and the food was very tasty. We had a lot of dishes to share, so it was good that I got to try a little of everything. However the chicken Pad See Ew and the Red Chicken Curry were my favorite. I love spicy food so I made sure the kitchen added enough spice for me; however every dish can be mild, spicy or not at all, which is great to accommodate different palates. I have been back four times in the past month, and got it to-go a few times as well. Definitely give it a try if you're in the Monterey area and craving Thai. read more

I guess you can say I'm a snob. Once I had a taste of Krua Thai, I became obsessed. Came in here for a dinner with a friend and split a couple dishes. We feasted on the Panang Chicken Curry, chicken swathed in an irresistible peanut sauce with bell peppers, and the Pad Thai. The best curry to date for me!! Only $9.95 at dinner and $6.95 at lunch (with soup). They also bring out a trio of hot sauces if you want an extra kick. The service is pretty shoddy on most visits and it gets pretty crowded around 12 and 6 p.m. If you go in for lunch after 1:00, the crowd thins out quite a bit. One lunch, sat at the table for 20 minutes without any one coming over and only when I motioned to walk out, did someone scurry over. Another trip, sat next to an unsober bachelorette goup of 15. On another occasion, got placed in the back by the bathroom. Not how I'd perfer to dine, but this is a place to frequent for the tasty food. It gets pretty bad in there at the peak lunch and dinner times, but brace yourself because the food is well-worth withstanding the sub-par service. I love Krua Thai and keep on coming back. I had the Tom Yum Chicken soup and Chicken Panang x4 spicy... I know - how typical of me... The Tom Yum was cutely (is that even a word) served in a San Francisco Coffee Mug and it had A LOT of Mushrooms. I personally am NOT a mushroom fan, but the amount of chicken in it matched the Mushroom so I was happy. I like my Tom Yum to be more Lemon-Grassy, but it was okay. The Chicken Panang, also had a good amount of chicken in it, I feel like they missed the Mark on the Panang... not enough peanut flavor to it... but certainly wasnt bad.
