Amazing as usual. This is our go to place for breakfast, lunch and dinner every time we go to Maui. Food is always great and the service puts it over the top. Over the years it was always great to come back and see Momma J who is a fixture there giving great service and advice on what to see and do in Maui. Even to Kamaaina like us from Oahu. Tracy and I decided last night that it's official, Kula Bistro will be a regular Maui dining spot during our annual pilgrimage. We grabbed a couple single serve wines from store across the street. No reservation so come early if you want to be seated right away at this eclectic Up Country eatery. Great Italian menu I've experienced in the past. However the Lobster Mac and Cheese I ordered from the Appetizer menu last night was a delightful meal itself. My bride enjoyed her crab cake panini, but you can't help but leave with one of their many homemade deserts. Went for dinner the day after Xmas. The restaurant was CRANKING but the food came out hot and quickly. Calamari app was not good at all, would not order that again but my Salmon and Shrimp over potatoes entree was delicious. Kula Bistro is a favorite breakfast place on Maui. They are strict when it comes to getting breakfast service. You have to be there by 10:15 am to get breakfast otherwise you are turned away. Loco moco was our favorite - we tried with both white rice and friend rice. Fried rice was an expensive add on and lacked flavor and was lackluster in comparison. Great service, solid food, gargantuan sides (thanks to our server for letting us know to consider ordering sides rather than full entrees). The desserts- lilikoi tart- had a thick buttery crust and went great with their house coffee. Rye bread at breakfast was soft and special delivered to them. Kid liked the single buttermilk pancake. The last time we came in here was 3 years ago. They have not change their menus. We had order coconut shrimp which was okay and no flavor except the nam play sauce out a bottle. My Reuben sandwich was good but could be better hence not enough salt and spices. Serve on a pumpernickel bread sauerkraut and Russian dressing. I wish the sauerkraut was a little more yard and tangy. The dude fish was Cesar salad was not enough anchovies and Parma Reggiani cheese. The peanut butter ice cream was okay. Great spot on the lower Kula Rd, located accross a feed store and the old Morihara store. Lots of parking and we went on a Sunday afternoon, not too busy. We had 'Mama J' as our waitress who was personable & knowledgeable of the menu and food they serve. Fresh, locally grown ingredients & made from scratch, original recipies. This is a great stop while in Kula. We stopped in right around lunch time and it was clear the local folks love this place as well. It was pretty crowded on a weekday but they had adequate seating. There was also outside seating as well. I ordered the panini which was very tasty and came with an abundance of French fries. The YS ordered the tuna which was market price but it was fresh caught so it was definitely worth it. He had a great salad to go with. It was definitely great to try out a place that the locals clearly love and get to experience a great eatery to boot. All in all I would definitely drop back by here again. read more

Food isn't as good as it was after it was sold. They cannot accommodate diners who can't eat gluten and dairy. If they try, the food is dry and not tasty. Desserts aren't tasty unless you can have gluten and dairy. Asked for many years if they could have coconut ice cream with a dark chocolate sauce, no. Extremely disappointing experience from start to finish. Our table was never checked on, and the drinks ordered for my children were completely forgotten. No apology or compensation was offered. The food took a long time, the fries were cold, and my own meal and my child's burger were not good. Additionally, the bathroom was dirty, and the overall ambiance of the restaurant was unpleasant. The wait for a table was long, only to be left frustrated and disappointed. What's most concerning is how the owner handled the complaint afterward. Rather than taking accountability, they blamed me for not "raising concerns with management" during the visit, despite no staff being available and my children being overwhelmed. I had to flag someone down just to leave. Calling that outcome "fair and consistent" says a lot about how this business is run. Mistakes happen. Dismissiveness and lack of accountability are a choice. I won't be returning. read more

I wish they gave a saucer and spoon to stir in the sugar - lemonade 3/5- not freshly squeezed :( but standard size glass so good portion size - chicken parmesan pasta - 4/5 - huge portion size. We two couldnt finish it and still have leftovers. I'm giving this place 5 stars even though I was slightly disappointed in my sandwich. We were told we would have a 10-15 min wait but it was only about 2 minutes. The service was great and quick. It's a cute little place seemingly in the middle of nowhere. We ordered the crab cakes which were delicious. They were more ball shaped which I think makes the insides a little mushy but the flavor was so good I didn't care. My husband ordered the meatloaf and I had serious meatloaf envy! Meatloaf was ginormous and I kept sneaking bites. 5 stars for sure! I ordered the mahi sandwich on focaccia. The sandwich had great flavor but the fish was way undercooked for my liking. The foccacia was soft and the fish was super soft so there was a lot of soft without any real crunch. I'd give it a 3.5/5. We had Caesar salad with the sandwich was was 5/5! We ended the meal with carrot cake which was delicious. There was so many options for food that it was too difficult to decide since everything sounded excellent. I finally decided to order escargot for an appetizer my husband ordered the mahi mahi sandwich with Caesar salad and I ordered the small cheese burger with fries which was perfect and even that was plenty of food and left overs. The atmosphere in this restaurant is very friendly and the staff is constantly working to keep things moving along. Once again Mathew kept checking on us to see if we needed anything which I appreciated and he was perfect in his customer service which makes me and my family to return again and again! Came to Kula Bistro after the long morning doing Haleakala. We arrived around 9:20ish and put our name down on the list. Parking is super tough- they have a small lot with about 6 or so stalls otherwise you'll have to do parallel park street parking. We ordered the macadamia banana pancakes which were so fluffy warm and delicious. Between the two of us we definitely couldn't finish. If I came back as a solo person I'd order the single pancake for myself. We also got the loco moco which was also very decent but comforting and hit the spot after hours in the cold. read more

Found Kula Bistro via Yelp -- overall it's cute find! However, Maui's most salient qualities, by far, are its natural beauty, beaches and people -- the food, notsomuch. Kula Bistro isn't the most economical place to satisfy your cravings and my rating is more of a 3.5 for the food, but the service and and atmosphere are great, so that makes it a 4. I had the wagyu meatball pasta ($27.95) and a slice of mascarpone pistachio cake. I requested to change the pasta from spaghetti to pappardelle. The pasta temp was just shy of al dente/springy enough. The meatballs were definitely tasty, though, but had a touch too much ligament/fat bits for my taste (personal preference). The pistachio cake was tasty, but $10.95 a slice! *wipes sweat from brow* No prices listed on the bakery display, but my fault for not asking before ordering -- my eyes were hungry! Lunch entrees range from $18 for a veggie focaccia sandwich, $30 for pasta/mains with meat, $40 for specials. So the food is not cheap, but you'll enjoy a calm, nice meal if you come here. This is of our go to stops every time we visit Maui. Great service, inviting ambience and terrific food...much of it is locally sourced. My husband and I shared the Lilikoi Salmon Salad and the fresh bread appetizer to have with the salad. The bread tasted fresh baked. The herb butter that it came with was delicious. The salad though.
