Not at all what we expected from the pics on site, and definitely NOT WORTH what they charge for the rooms. The lodge, the market and the restaurant seem to be run by three different entities. First, please understand this lodge is rustic. No television (that's fine), no microwave and no refrigerator. The last two amenities are important, because the restaurant is not open for dinner, and unlike hotels where one can order room service or stop into the restaurant or bar to get food, those options are unavailable here. There is a market that closes at 5, with a limited selection of food and beverage. Also, don't plan on having priority for breakfast just because you're staying in the lodge. We decided to try breakfast out, but we're turned away because the restaurant was closed for private tour They supply coffee packs, cream and sugar, but don't refresh the paper cups, sugar and creamer. We had to go to the marketplace and ask for cups each morning, and even then, the market place questioned why we were asking for more cups. They did drop off clean towels, but didn't touch anything else in the room. Everything in our unit was dated (carpet, rugs, walls, shower/bath). The electric fireplace is the only bright spot. It took the chill off the room, as there are old wooden and glass shudders in the downstairs sitting area, in the bathroom and up at the entrance to the unit that let the chill in. The wall between the bed downstairs and the entrance to the bath is very thin and has a gap in it (see picture). We stayed in unit 2, which had a nice view off the deck, but was noisy in the early morning with travelers going to catch the sunrise at Haleakala. If you're a light sleeper, bring earplugs because they won't be supplying them. Similar to a small motel, we could hear the neighbors taking their showers and playing basketball (I mean walking heavily) across the floor. These walls are thin, to say the least. All this would probably have been easier to accept had we not paid almost $400 a night ($394). Extra fun fact: Although they charged us for what we thought was the entire amount prior to our arrival, they snuck in an additional $30 and didn't bother to tell us of the additional charge. We discovered it when we compared our confirmation email to the check in receipt. Extra extra fun fact: check in is at 4pm. We showed up early just after 3pm, and we were handed an envelope that said "Our check in desk has closed for the evening. We're sorry we missed you." It provided instructions on how to get to our unit, but I am wondering why their check in desk closes before check in time???????

Gorgeous garden within the lodge and restaurant area. No reservations - walk-ins only. They were understaffed on our visit which led to small issues with our order (drink wasn't received and appetizer came after meal), but the staff was friendly and doing their best with the situation. The crab cake Benedict was very good as well as the wagyu burger.

I expected so much more of this place - it has an excellent location with breathtaking views, but food and staff are average. We came as part of the Haleakala tour and as soon as we entered, one of the hostess/servers seemed to be highly stressed (maybe it was too many of us? but they got our orders 40 minutes in prior of us arriving) and rushed everyone to the seating. I got classic breakfast option - potato was too salty and bacon was overdone. There is so much potential - but execution is just meh. On the side note, there are lots of funny signs around the lodge so I am posting them with the review

You have a gorgeous view up here looking down the mountainside toward the southern Maui shoreline!

We came across this place on our way to the Haleakalā summit to watch the sunset and heard very good things about it. The hype is definitely well earned: the garden and the mountainside view are breathtaking, the food and drink were delicious and our service was very personable and friendly. Shoutout to Danielle for giving us some great recommendations during our stay here too! Definitely drop by here if you're on your way up to see one of the finest sunrises/sunsets from 10,000 feet high you'll see in your life!

We came here for lunch we arrived a little early I guess so we had to wait til they opened up for lunch. I guess lunch starts at 11:15. We had a party of 13 so they put several tables together. We had a guy server not sure if his name he was okay wish he was a little more attentive. We asked for separate tabs I'm not sure if that was okay but he kept asking who was on each tab we got asked over three times of who was on each tab. I had the Loco Moco with no egg. I don't eat eggs so it was plain a hamburger patty with brown gravy over wore rice that was $16. Kinda over priced. The good thing was they had local music going on we enjoyed that. Oh and also we ordered Heineken Light he said yes we have. About five minutes later there was no Heineken Lights... Awwwww that was a bummer. I asked how was the Mauimosa they didn't care for it. I think maybe I we'll try dinner here for a different menu. But the view is amazing. Kula is GORGEOUS. AIRWAYS HAS BEEN.

From start to finish, our entire experience was absolutely wonderful. The hotel staff were all extremely kind and engaging, offering helpful tips and suggestions. We had nothing but positive interactions with the valet and the front desk. The staff that work at the on-site restaurants were also lovely. Our ocean view room was clean and spacious. It had all of the amenities we could hope for and the shower had wonderful water pressure. My only request would be that there was a shelf in the shower to put the shampoo, conditioner, and body wash, as we ended up having to put them on the floor and bending over in the shower while pregnant is not an easy task. The linens were soft and I appreciated the opportunity to earn food and beverage credit or Hilton reward points if we opted out of having our room cleaned each day. The blackout curtains in the room were also wonderful. We thoroughly enjoyed watching the sunset from our balcony each evening and listening to the live music that was performed each night down by the pool. There was ample pool space with plenty of pool chairs, both in the sun and in the shade. Access to the beach was extremely easy. While we were there, we also took part in morning yoga, access to the complementary aquatic activities, a sound bath under the full moon, and the infamous luau. I also booked a prenatal massage at the spa, which was absolutely divine. Access to the Courtesy Car to drop us off at nearby restaurants for reservations was extremely convenient. We appreciated the complementary reusable water bottles and the local snacks and beverages that were restocked in our mini bar. All in all, it was an absolute incredible stay and the next time we find ourselves in Maui, we will absolutely be returning to the Andaz.

It's like someone took all the stress from city life, compressed it into a tiny, unimportant speck, and launched it into a black hole, leaving only paradise in its wake. The flight to Molokai island? Oh, it's not a "flight." It's a 40-minute thrill ride on a single-engine plane where you get low-altitude views of Maui and Lanai that'll make you wonder why you've ever flown in a real airplane. You know, the kind with a professional crew and oxygen masks. Here, you're living on the edge, and I kinda loved it. Once you touch down in Molokai, prepare to have your mind blown by Molokai island's sheer, untouched beauty. Molokai isn't just a place to stay--it's a test of your willpower to not run out into the wild and become one with nature. And the people of Molokai? They're so kind it should be illegal. Honest, hardworking, and so chill, you'll start thinking you've entered an alternate universe where stress is a myth. And then there's the wildlife. If you're into wild deer, boars, and goats--hello! It's like an unsanctioned petting zoo out here. And if you think you're a real adventurer, you might just get lucky and encounter a mongoose, though don't quote me on that. It's the kind of place where even the local wild life look like they're on vacation. A Beautiful Property Marred by Frustrating Service and Absurd Policies…read more My wife and I recently stayed at the Grand Wailea to celebrate her birthday. While the property itself is stunning and boasts some genuinely great amenities, the experience was a confusing mix of highs and deeply frustrating lows. The frustration started immediately. The valet was in a massive rush to get me out of the car without listening to my questions about early check-in. I was told temporary parking wasn't allowed without someone staying in the car - an odd policy for guests who might just need a restroom break after a long drive. Prior to arrival, I received an email stating that if my room wasn't ready, the bellman would store our luggage on the 4th floor and we could enjoy an "exclusive private check-in" at the 8th-floor Napua Lounge. None of this happened. The bell desk informed me the 8th-floor staff went on lunch break at 2 PM and never returned. I was forced into a massive, slow-moving line on the 4th floor with only four staff members helping about eight families. When I finally got to the front, I was handed keys without a room number and told to wait in the lobby for a text. I booked a 1 King Bed with Sofa bed, Ocean View. I was grateful they upgraded us to the Napua Tower for my wife's birthday, but the room lacked an actual ocean view from the inside. I could only see the building across from us unless I went out to the balcony and look at the right corner. Worse, the room wasn't properly prepared. The bed and pillows were messy, and there was a white, crusty spill (coffee or food sauce) over the TV. Despite calling to request a cleaning while we went out, housekeeping remade the bed but completely ignored the dirty TV. This was arguably the most nonsensical part of the stay. The beachside shop closes at 3:30 PM - the prime time guests want to be on the beach for sunset! If you don't return your Tommy Bahama beach chair (which retails for about $100 brand new) by 3:30, they charge a $100 penalty to your room. Furthermore, to get two chairs for my wife and me, the staff demanded we both be physically present to check them out. If a family of 10 wants chairs, all 10 people have to stand in line. On top of this, everyone is forced to wear plastic wristbands. For a luxury resort, this feels incredibly cheap, wasteful, and poorly managed. You are forced into an $80/night valet with no self-parking option - which cost me more than four days of gas driving around the island. Add to that a $55 daily resort fee, and it feels like pure greed when you are already paying upwards of $1,200+ a night. To top it off, my checkout invoice was wrong. My property credits were not applied correctly, resulting in overcharges that staff dismissed by saying it would "calculate automatically" (it didn't). While email communication was okay, the chat feature on the hotel's app and website is completely useless, taking forever to get a response. The pools and jacuzzis are exceptionally clean, well-managed, and expansive. There is more than enough space for everyone, so it never feels uncomfortably crowded. The poolside, lounge, and housekeeping staff were incredibly friendly and always willing to help with directions or questions. The beach right in front of the resort is fantastic. It's a truly wonderful place to relax and watch the sunset. Although email responses were slow in the days leading up to the trip, the concierge staff was very supportive once connected and personally helped me re-coordinate a dinner reservation. The room itself (aside from the view and TV) featured a great sofa, nice decor, and a spotless bathroom. Ultimately, the Grand Wailea is a classic case of "all sizzle and no steak". The natural beauty and physical property are fantastic, but the exorbitant and hidden fees, lack of basic communication between departments, and insulting, restrictive guest policies severely detract from what should be a world-class luxury experience.

Unfortunately, our experience fell well short of those expectations. Our stay started with being checked into a room that hadn't even been cleaned. After bringing it to the staff's attention, they did make an effort to recover by moving us to a new room, providing $300 in resort credit, and offering us an Oasis bed at the pool, which we appreciated. However, the service inconsistencies continued throughout our stay. One evening we returned from dinner to find another couple's honeymoon welcome package--including champagne and banana bread--delivered to our room. While not a major inconvenience, it highlighted a lack of personalization and attention to detail that you simply don't expect at this level. Pool service was another disappointment. Our initial lunch order of avocado toast, poke, and carne asada tacos took over 30 minutes, and a later quesadilla order also took more than 30 minutes. The staff did comp us a round of drinks for the delay, which was appreciated, but the food itself was underwhelming and didn't justify the premium pricing. What stood out most was the disconnect between the cost of staying here and the overall experience. When you choose a Ritz-Carlton, you're not just paying for a beautiful property--you're paying for exceptional, personalized service and flawless execution. That's the standard the brand has built its reputation on. While the staff consistently tried to make things right after issues occurred, there were simply too many preventable mistakes during one stay. This is a beautiful resort with wonderful employees, but at this price point--and as Platinum members--we expected a much more polished, personalized, and consistently exceptional experience. Recovering from service failures is appreciated, but ideally, guests shouldn't have to experience so many of them in the first place.

After all, we knew it was a great resort, and why risk it elsewhere? What a mistake I made! Things have changed dramatically in the past eight years. What shocked me was the appalling cleanliness of the rooms and common areas. The carpets in the hotel hallways were streaked with stains all the way from the elevator to our room. Also it seemed like the maintenance crew was working on a room next to ours, leaving a dirty utility carpet in the room next to ours throughout our stay. There were even hairs on the hinge of the bathroom door, large oil stains on the balcony couch (I would never sit on it), and debris underneath the bedroom chair where I placed my suitcase. It was clear that the bedrooms were only superficially cleaned. The bathroom doors also didn't close properly. The paint had scraped off, and we had to use a lot of muscle to push them closed. There was dirt all over the ledge of the door. Trying to get hold of anyone at the hotel phone was impossible. On our first day on the island, we left our room at 8 am and returned at 3 pm, but our room had still not been serviced. There was no way to call guest services from the hotel bedroom, which was a first for us. We went downstairs to find someone at the check-in desk, but there was a long line, so we left. We found a hotel employee and asked him if he could help us contact the guest services regarding our room. He assured us he would take care of it but it was still not done when we returned at 5 pm. We ended up having to look up a number on the hotel website to ask them to service our room at 5 pm! These kinds of things shouldn't happen at a hotel of this caliber. The parking situation was also horrendous and a huge rip-off. It costs $47 a day to park in a structure that was so tightly packed. Some of the larger cars barely fit in one spot, and we were worried that our rental car would be hit or scratched. I wish we had stayed with our fond memories of Wailea from eight years ago and never returned. At this point it is just overpriced, disappointing and underwhelming.
