Not far from Life of Pie pizzeria, literally next-door, I discovered that this is an Indian American fusion ice cream shop as I have a few Indian friends who ate at the pizza place and decided to go here after. They informed me that the name of this place is popular in India. Now they did say there's an American twist on it of course to fit the means of the culture around us but man this place tastes amazing and pistachios are very popular in India I guess and it's implemented in the ice cream so I tried the Indian coffee with pistachio and chocolate and it was just a little crunchy and so satisfying. Kulfi is an absolute gem! A friend recommended we check it out since we were having dinner nearby, and honestly--it ended up being the best call of the night. This is the best ice cream I've ever had. I'm not into "traditional" flavors, so the combinations of things like cardamom, saffron, etc are perfect. Even if you are into the traditional stuff, these flavors will blow your mind. I was blown away by the ube (it tasted like ube!), the coffee ice cream tasted like a great cappuccino, the caramel ice cream was perfect (better than Salt and Straw's--and I love theirs), the golden milk honeycomb was out of this world, and the mango was creamy and delightful! A cute and colourful place with creative flavours of ice cream! PARKING: Street parking it is! Not bad for a Wednesday evening, though. It is on a street that has plenty of restaurants so it probably gets busy! AMBIANCE: Such a vibrantly colourful ice cream shop with a few tables and seats. This place is so good! We had just finished having some ramen when I looked up ice cream shops nearby. As a vegan, I appreciate how they actually had flavors for me that actually mimicked dairy ice cream but not in a gross, super fake way. Even my non-vegan family members liked the flavors I chose (Vietnamese coffee and a cardamom one). The service was great. The person helping us was friendly, patient and very informative of the flavors. The ambiance was simple and they had adorable murals along with their original bike ice cream cart. Greeted us and explained to us what all they offered, including drinks like Falooda and Mango Lassi. I love that they have so many vegan + dairy-free options, and they were not plain options. I opted for their vegan Blueberry Basil Ginger Lemonade flavor which was super flavorful! Wasn't too sweet or strong at all. Just right. I will say the blueberry bits got stuck between my teeth so maybe not the best spot for a first date haha I'd carry some toothpicks or have water on hand. I would also take some extra napkins if extra warm out as it can get messy from the melting. The price was $5 which might seem a tad high for this single dessert, but I could taste the fresh and quality ingredients - and would describe as some basic "popsicle" but kulfi :). After my 3rd visit....the Ube ice cream is still the reigning champ of all ice creams I have had. Their mango lassi bar is good too, but the Ube (whether you get a scoop or as a bar) is off the charts. Whatever you guys are doing, keep doing it. Great tropical / Indian flavors with a fusion theme. Loved the fast and friendly service.

When I was little way back in the 70s, there were fudgesicles that had a lot of ice milk in the texture. It would crunch a little and crack like an ice floe. That's what these kulfi remind me of - a not unpleasant memory, I always found them refreshing. We both got the basic Malai flavor (caramel milk), mine coated with marshmallow and hers with dark chocolate. Toppings were only an extra buck, and the server whipped out a little blowtorch and charred the marshmallow topping! It was very tasty, a nice, refreshing treat. The bars were a nice size so they weren't super filling, which was great because I'd stuffed myself at Lua down the block. read more
