Came here for lunch and the service was great. Everyone was very attentive and I really appreciated the pacing of the omakase. We didn't feel rushed like we do at other places. The fish was fresh and rice was tasty with a nice bite. I would recommend the lunch omakase!

Finally got to try the sushi omakase dinner at Kuramoto for my birthday dinner, and it was a great experience. Chef Kuramoto served up a delicious meal from beginning to finish. Everything was so good but my favorites included the Hokkaido Uni, black cod w shaved black truffle, kanpachi, toro with uni miso and eel uni rice. We had the 6pm first seating and arrived early to sit right in front of Chef Kuramoto. There were 14 seats and at least 9 of us were celebrating birthdays lol. Dinner will be over before 8pm for the next seating. There is only one dinner omakase available. The food, service and ambiance were all excellent. This is definitely one of the best sushi omakase in Orange County.

Omakase was pretty good. The fish was fresh but the appetizers and other dishes stood out more for me. The service was okay. It was polite and prompt. Not as friendly as other omakase places I've been to though. I would recommend trying it!

To start off, kuramota is located in a plaza with ample parking. However the store itself has no sign except for a marked door. Therefore, I would park first and enter second. The service was quick and the chefs are a bit on the quieter side since they're focusing on the food. The ambiance inside is incredible. It's so intimate and perfect for a date or a night out. I went for the lunch omakase and it ended up being around $85 pp. This was actually a very good price considering the amount of food I had and the quality of the food. We went right as it opened and celebrated my friends graduation, hence the special candle on top of our dessert. Overall, I would easily come back. However I would also want to try the dinner menu.

Ever since a life-changing first omakase experience at Shiki in New York back in October 2022, we have been on an absolute mission. We've spent nearly four years and thousands of dollars searching and trying various omakase restaurants across the San Diego area, desperately trying to replicate that magic. On May 30, 2026, the search finally ended. We found it at Kuramoto Omakase. Executive Chef Taiki Kuramoto is a master of his craft--purely amazing and deeply talented. Every single course was perfectly executed, and the arrangement and structure of his nigiri is nothing short of incredible. You know you have found the right place when the entire evening is a series of "Oh WOW!" moments, bite after bite. It took us almost four years to find a chef in Southern California who could match the standard we experienced in New York, and we are so incredibly thankful to have found Chef Kuramoto. If you want an unparalleled culinary experience, this is it. Thank you, Chef Kuramoto! 5 BIG STARS!

My husband took me and my daughter here for Mother's Day dinner and we had a wonderful time. The food was so fresh and delicious! The service was also professional...

Kuramoto is a small Japanese omakase restaurant located in a plaza in Tustin. The storefront was very unassuming and there was only one small sign on top of the door. The restaurant is led by Chef Taiki Kuramoto and opened 1.5 years ago. We made reservations and they don't take walk-ins unless you're able to take a spot if another party cancels. When we walked in there was only counter space in a very sleek and minimalistic interior. We found out about this restaurant on social media talking about the lunch omakase ($68). That is a great deal for an omakase so we wanted to check it out. The meal started off with sashimi salad and we really liked the sweet shrimp and dressing. Then we moved to the soup with shrimp, mushroom, and steamed egg. Next was the variety of nigiri including sea bream with yuzu (good), ocean trout (really good), amberjack with dashi soy sauce and red yuzu (good), stripejack with pickled wasabi and puff rice (really good), black cod with lemon and truffle salt (really good), bluefin tuna (really good and my favorite), and toro with pickled radish (good). At the end of the meal we had Santa Barbara uni and salmon egg, dashi soup, and chocolate mousse. I liked the faster pace of the food coming out because I personally don't want to be waiting long periods between meals and sitting for a long time. Overall it took a little more than an hour for our meal. For the value the meal was great. There were fewer courses than other omakases but we left feeling satisfied and it was way more inexpensive. And of course, the food was delicious.

We ordered the lunch omakase. Here's what we got: 1. Sashimi salad 2. Chawanmushi w shrimp, scallop, mushroom 3. Sea bream with lemon, kelp salt, yuzu 4. Ocean trout / sweet and buttery 5. Amberjack with dashi soy sauce and red yuzu - Buttery, smooth, and coats your mouth with the flavor. For a white fish, it wasn't as crunchy as we were expecting. 6. Shimaji stripe jack with pickled wasabi and puff rice - Meaty cut of fish, with subtle but present pickled flavor. We thought the crunch from puff rice was a fun add. 7. Black cod with lemon and truffle salt - The seared skin was crunchier, contrasting with the softer non-seared side of the fish. Super fatty cut with light flavors made it well balanced 8. Bluefin tuna with nori paste - We loved how the nori paste covered up with iron flavor of the tuna with the seaweed aromas. 9. Toro with pickled radish - Citrusy flavors cut through the more buttery toro flavor. Personally I would have preferred an actual toro nigiri though which I'd expect at this price point. 10. Uni and ikura don, with uni from Santa Barbara. I actually really liked how the uni mixed well with the ikura and rice where I could portion out exactly how much I wanted each bite. 11. Tamago 12. Clear dashi 13. Dessert - House-made strawberry mousse Overall (4/5): We made a resy here for a Saturday lunch. Service was welcoming and the ambiance was intimate, despite the full house. However, we had trouble seeing the preparation process which we always love and didn't really have many chances to make conversation with the chef. In terms of the sushi, we thought it was a bit generic at first but the later pieces redeemed themselves with the unique flavors on common fish like rice puffs and nori paste. We also liked the unique appetizers including the sashimi salad. Our main complaint is probably how pacing of the courses was rushed. Sushi was plated before we finished our appetizers - probably done to get us out on schedule before the second wave of lunch goers arrived. It wasn't a dealbreaker but we definitely felt the urgency. Overall still a decent option with quality fish for a budget, but not the best at this price point.

First time visitor Open parking Reservations yes highly recommended as it is very limited seating available! Also note busy and quiet time of the year that may impact your experience with the chef and choice of food. There is a lunch service but much more condense and sounds to be quicker while dinner there is a 6pm and 8pm. Bar dining only one main room only Authentic Omakase experience with Chef Taiki Kuramoto There is no menu, the Chef sets the adventure! The menu is rotated every 2 months! Dress code not sure but it very appears up scale but also pending the occasion can vary. Essentially there is not a set dress code that was stated. Service was wonderful. We were fortunate to have the dining room to ourselves. The Chef was very personable and passionate for his craft! Ingredients were locally sourced or directly from Japan. Each dish was explain and even his head server was very pleasant between all transitions of service and providing explanation of what was being served. Though can be seen as a pricey experience, very worth the once in a treat / celebration / try something new adventure. Each dish offer a different taste, fresh delicate flavorful that was not overwhelming and in the form of hot, cold, a hint of spice, utilizing multiple proteins both high end and simple along unique ingredients - was able to taste multiple combinations that involved 2 types of yuzu uni caviar duck liver There was also a flavorful broth that was comforting and cozy and reminded me of a palate cleanser and the dessert simple chocolate mousse that was not overly sweet to close off the experience. Very much would return again for curiously of next seasonal menu. Wouldn't recommend for young children. Very thankful to have the opportunity to dine with good company, high quality service and dishes, and a passionate Chef.

Such an intimate omakase experience! We had the best time and every bite of food was amazing. We booked online, super easy but they do charge $100 pp deposit but you get it back once you show up. The email said show up 10 mins early so we did that but they were kinda closed until the time of our reservation. one of my faves was the toro with uni miso, I ate it super slow to savor. The whole experience is about 1.5 hours and well paced. I was super satisfied after the meal. Total cost was a little pricer like $220 pp but worth the price based on freshness and experience as a whole. Also fun fact the toilet is heated!!

From the moment you step into Kuramoto, you're treated like royalty. The service is very attentive, creating a seamless dining experience from start to finish. The restaurant itself feels upscale and intimate, with moody lighting and a refined atmosphere that elevates the experience even more. We came for the lunch special, and it ended up being one of the most delicious and affordable omakase experiences I've had! The fish cuts were unique and had great sauce pairings, and I got to try new dishes that weren't just nigiri like most omakase places. Can't wait to go back!

Truly consistently amazing. This place is a GEM. Came here again for lunch and was once again blown away. Random Thursday, but Chef Taiki was at the head once more. The nigiri was perfect this time. The fish is beautifully cut, each piece uniform in texture and chosen with care. Just look at it!! The chefs do not just make food, they create art. The rice this time was seasoned well and cooked perfectly. The temperature of both the fish and the rice was a perfect contrast. If this place was only a sushiya I would still be happy. Thoughts on other dishes - salad dressing a bit on the sweeter side, just how I like it personally. Steamed egg was wonderful, with lots of umami. Dessert this time was some sort of chocolate pudding, with what looked like Meiji sandwich cookies added in. Service was perfect from beginning to end. Very thoughtful and meticulous. Admin notes - lunch and dinner are both reservation only. It is all bar seating. The lot has free parking and is shared with other businesses. I have eaten omakase for a very long time (three decades) in the Irvine/Tustin/Santa Ana/Costa Mesa region and this is indisputably my current favorite post-COVID.

Everything we had, though, seemed to have a "day old "quality to it The tuna on the poke bowl had a bit of a slime/stickiness to it.. instead of a sharp fresh quality. The crudo.. same thing. Also. It was covered in a mango sauce.. you couldn't even make out the slices of fish .. so you couldn't appreciate the texture through the thickish sauce The mixed platter had an unappetizing coleslaw that seemed well past its prime. The sweet potato fries and dipping sauce were the highlight of the tray. The batter on the fried fish was still undercooked, so it was wet and gooey underneath and just fell off the fish. The calamari was overcooked. The crabcake, though, had the best flavor and was the second best thing on the tray If I'm in the area,, I might give it another shot. But prolly not. For two non alcoholic drinks, mixed fries platter, crudo appetizer, and a ahi poke bowl.. we dropped $100 Worth it? Nope

Another wonderful family meal at Water Grill!…read more This is an easy pick whenever we want to enjoy yummy seafood with the kids because they have elegant adult dishes as well as kids meals. The service is always friendly and attentive. I usually start with a cocktail like Bristol Street and some chilled fresh seafood. Today, we enjoyed the sea urchin... some pieces were buttery and sweet, others had a slight bitter flavor. I think I will stick with prawn and oyster next time. Shrimp scampi is good, and kids loved the calamari and kids cheeseburger. Ice cream, banana sundae, and latte to cap off our Father's Day celebration luncheon. Honestly, it is not a cheap place, but we will gladly return because of the quality of food, service and ambiance. Thumbs up!

He went above and beyond to inform us and he was clearly knowledgeable about every aspect of the menu. Everything we ordered was excellent. Really enjoyed the crisp calamari and ceviche (crudo style). A great celebration for a birthday with a birthday card and a complimentary triple cookie dessert à la mode. It's near Segerstrom Theater so they asked if we had a show that evening as they are conscientious to get people out the door to catch it. Thankfully we didn't have any restrictions so we took our time to enjoy each course. It was really great dining here! Thanks Jason, Daniel, and Water Grill for making it a great evening.

Papa Fish, the owner of the Crab Cooker, knew me from my days as an employee. He was a very special man to work for. Unfortunately, he is not around to see how times have changed and this place is slowly losing its customers. The product is still the same. The fish is cooked just the way Papa Fish wanted it to be cooked. However, times and demographics have changed. This restaurant is not attractive to younger folks for some reason and it is very sad to me. The question is can The Crab Cooker adapt to the changes in society? I'm thinking of Bear Flag in Newport Beach? Fresh fish served every day and the place is packed from the time they open to when then close? What are they doing differently? The Crab Cooker in Tustin is still great fish cooked the correct way. It is still my favorite seafood place to go. I hope things get better for this place and the customers keep coming.

It's been a while but returning for my third visit with friends. You can smell the aroma of seafood coming from the restaurant about 6 cars away in the general area (e.g., or if you're waiting outside on the bench). Upon entering, you'll find yourself in a "seafood market" aka a display of a variety of raw seafood options and cold precooked soups. There's also a small corner selling some merchandise by the hostess booth. The restaurant is quite big -- seatings are separated by partition front vs back half of the room. Service is decent and nice -- nothing special or standout that I can remember. I am not sure if I'm a fan eating from paper plates and plastic utensils....sort of off, especially trying to "slurp" off a shallow plastic soup made to scoop ice cream not soup. :(( I'm not sure if the prices of the entrées or not, but for a Friday at 6 PM dinner time, the restaurant is only half full. Maybe it's because there's NO FREE bread basket. We had to pay for a sourdough bread basket which was different from most places. I was a bit taken back but rolled with it, no pun (or bun) intended. We ordered scallops skewers and soft shell crab combo which comes with two sides (you chose from 6 different options). The food is delicious so don't get me wrong, but while I was seating I couldn't get over how pricey the entrees are for an average amount of food. Granted I'm not a gluttony but do want my side portions be a bit larger. :)))

We call them and give them a heads up and wondered if there was still availability. Melody was pretty transparent and said that there is a different menu between two and five ---a more limited menu. She asked if there was anyway we could get there before 2 o'clock. Long story short, she was super gracious and told the cooks that we would get there a little after two and they would make us something from the lunch menu. Isa was our waitress, and she was phenomenal! Great sense of humor, very transparent about the different menu items. I got a copal and it was fantastic! Smoky and spicy, but not too spicy. We started our late lunch with Caesar salad, Sopa Limon, Seabreem fish dish. We also got the cubano. We were so stuffed by the end of it, but everything was phenomenal. The Caesar salad was a great way to start the meal, but after a couple of bites of it once we had the other dishes, it didn't stand out as much. We probably would've ordered the same thing all over again, with the exception of the Caesar salad (although it was still good!) Sopa Limon had a very unique bone broth flavor. It was a little sweet. So amazing. Seabreem dish - the vegetables played an important part in the flavors! The fries and the aïoli for the Cubano was amazing. The Cubano was excellent, but was a big serving. We sat outdoors, but if I had to have my choice, I would prefer indoors because the ambience indoors is similar to a resort. It reminds us of a place up in the Bay Area called Luna in Campbell. Except the food here is slightly better :). Will definitely return!

I forgot the names of them all but just trust me on this one! Our server brought us out their house made hot sauce that complimented every dish we ordered. Don't forget to ask for it! One was a black charred ghost pepper paste like sauce, nothing like I've ever had. So good. The best thing about all of the food was nothing was too saucy or salty. My girlfriends ordered some drinks and they loved it too. We went on a Thursday and they had a farmers market on the streets as well!
