KW is not your typical HK style cafes. Their chefs are capable to prepare Cantonese banquet and take on special request from customer to make off menu dishes. Tonight I reserved 2 private rooms for my party, request sashimi to pair with Japanese sake and other classic Cantonese banquet dishes for wine pairing. All dishes are executed at a high end Cantonese restaurant level, service is fast, attentive, and excellent. All the dishes are delicious and I am surprise the prices are really reasonable as well. I will no doubt consider coming back to KW for another Cantonese banquet dinner. read more

KW Cafe is located in the old EMC building, to my surprise. It's got ample space and a lot of foot traffic, both dine in and take out! We visited Sunday morning (10:30am) and found out we weren't able to order lunch items yet since it doesn't start until 11am. What's great is that they let us order a couple breakfast items and then gave us the lunch menus around 10:55am, although we did have to ask for them. What was ordered: + Breakfast combo - fish filet congee, sticky rice and a hot milk tea. The fish filet congee was decent, although I'm not a huge fan of seafood in my congee. It was a fairly large bowl even split between 4 of us. The sticky rice was also a hefty serving considering it's a side to the congee! I personally think the breakfast combo is worth getting. + Shrimp rice roll - If you love rice roll, this is for you! The shrimp to rice roll ratio was 1:3, there was just so. much. rice. roll. But for someone like my mom and boyfriend, it was perfect because they ate the rice roll and I enjoyed the shrimp. I loved that they gave extra sweet soy sauce on the side because you can never have too much! + Yutiao rice roll - LOVED THIS. The you tiao was still crispy and the rice roll layer was a perfect complement, not too thick. They also give you hoisin sauce for dipping, but honestly it was great on its own. + Wonton soup - I only had 2 wontons, but they weren't bad. The skin was a bit on the thicker side, but the filling was pretty good. I wouldn't say it's a must order but it'll satisfy your craving. + Grilled fish filet - ordered with mushroom sauce and pasta. The pasta was very dry because there was truly not enough sauce. The fish filet was good though and they give the sauce on the side so it won't feel overwhelming on the plate. + Baked porkchop with tomato sauce - we substituted the white rice with fried rice (an additional $2) and was disappointed. It didn't taste like fried rice at all, but instead the rice felt on the "wet" side, which made the dish seem soggy because of the tomato sauce they pour on top. I was also surprised that their porkchop was already cut into pieces instead of bone-in. The sauce was fantastic though. I'd order this again but probably skip on the fried rice since it didn't do much to the dish like other cafes do. The service was decent, although the busier it got the less attentive they were. They had multiple employees walking around but it was hard to flag someone down for the lunch menu, to order the lunch items and to grab the check. By the time we left at noon, there were multiple parties waiting! I'd highly recommend coming before 11am grabbing some breakfast items then waiting until lunch to try more dishes. read more

We went there for breakfast one day and lunch the next day. The food are delicious Breakfast day: we had fish congee, French toast, cheung fun and mini Bo Loh Bao. The fish in the congee is soft and tasty. The portion is huge that I can barely finish it. The French toast is the usual Hong Kong style one. The mini Bo Loh Bao is so so. I was craving the food from Hong Kong style cafes and the food here is pretty good. It was fairly busy on a Monday dinner but there were still a few tables available around 6:30pm by the time we got there. We shared the 3 combination - BBQ pork, soy sauce chicken, and roasted duck, along with the beef and broccoli and yang chow fried rice. The combination is pretty mediocre, as the BBQ pork was fairly standard and did not have as much roasted flavor as compared to a Cantonese BBQ restaurant. The soy sauce chicken was flavorful and the roast duck was okay, but both of them have too much bone and barely any meat, making the value not that good. The beef and broccoli is very good - the beef is very tender and the broccoli is soft enough but perfectly cooked. It came with white rice. The yang chow fried rice is also pretty solid - the shrimp is pretty large and the BBQ pork here is actually better than the BBQ pork itself in the 3 combination dish. Service is good as requests are fulfilled in a timely manner. There was some confusion of the orders that was corrected promptly, so the overall experience was fairly positive. Came here for Mother's Day and waited for approximately 30-45 minutes. They don't take reservations, so it's first come, first served. Anyway, they had a lot of options, which made us more confused because we didn't know what to get since we wanted to try everything they offered. We ended up ordering Peking duck, Crab Meat and Fish Maw Vegetable Soup, Fried Rice, Chicken, and Beef Chow Mein. The duck had a good amount of meat and less fat. The only problem was the salt level. The soup was flavorful and provided a good amount of crab, fish, and vegetables. The only issue with it was the starchiness--it was way too thick. Moving on to the fried rice, this dish took the longest to come out. We were so close to canceling it due to how long it took. Fortunately, we didn't because this dish just so happens to be my mom's favorite. The aroma it provided and the strong, flavorful taste after each bite was amazing. It was a bit crunchy, but that's the point of it being fried. The chicken was the worst dish for me. It was dry; however, it was tempting since it came with a buy one, get an additional half of the chicken deal. The beef chow mein was another great hit. I requested it to be half crunchy and half cooked; unfortunately, they couldn't accommodate that, so I chose crunchy since the sauce can make the noodles soggy. It was very delicious and the portion was generous. The price is on the higher end compared to other Chinese places. However, it is more modern and aesthetic compared to other places. Legit good food. If you like HK style cafes this is one of the newest and tastiest cafes in the area. This location used to be EMC a few years ago. So the decor was more luxurious than other cafes. Everything we ordered came out fresh, hot and really flavorful. They were running a promotion on the chicken. Buy 1/2 get the other half free. The chicken was moist and had a nice chew to it. We came around 5pm and it was the perfect time. 30 mins later there was a bunch of people waiting to be seated. We've been dining at KW many times but this time was a huge disappointment on Monday 12/15 that seven of us had breakfast there, and three chicken (B10 of breakfast) were ordered; 1st person who tasted it had dizziness, nauseous and threw up that afternoon, 2nd person had diarrhea for two consecutive day since Monday and is still not well as of today (Wednesday), 3rd person not reporting anything. They also do the lobster noodle to go, but they don't have lobsters smaller than 2.5lbs and you'll have to pay extra to add the noodles. Ever since the loss of Boston Cafe I haven't found a place to fill the void for my Cantonese HK Cafe fix. I'm happy that KW Cafe is here to fill that void. This is in the far corner of the 99 Cent Store plaza occupying what was once EMC or Hong Kong Palace if you're OG. They have all the HK cafe favorites: mixed grill, baked dishes, fried noodles, wonton soup noodles, barbecue assortments and traditional Chinese dishes. This restaurant is always slightly packed when I go (even before lunch) with a lot multi generational expats, so you know it's pretty legit. They also have HK tea time specials and a breakfast menu. So far I've had the baked bolognese, baked seafood over rice, grilled porkchop, grilled chicken steak, honey walnut shrimp, chiu chow style fried noodles and bolo bao and all have been pretty solid. If you are black, stay away from here. My bestfriend went in here, today 5/8/24, a little after 12 to have lunch. She was sat and no one came to take her order. Two asian males walk in and they immediately sat them and they took their order. My friend sat there wondering what was going on. A staff member made eye contact with her and did not even ask, if she had been helped. What happened to customer service? Could it be that she was the only black person in the joint? Only recently discovered that this Cantonese-style cafe opened a few months ago in the old EMC location. They have a massive menu and have tons of promotions going on. Luckily we got in right during their Afternoon Tea Time from 3-5PM every day, which is super rare. Ordered the BEEF CHOW FUN or 乾炒牛河 off their special Afternoon Tea menu and it came with a hot milk tea. It's served traditionally just like in the olden days with the condensed milk on the side for you to pour in to adjust the sweetness to your liking. And I knew before coming here that they had their own version of a BEEF WELLINGTON on the menu, so of course we had to get it! Just a small sidenote, they put their own Asian spin on this traditionally English dish, so it IS a little different. Otherwise, I would still give this a perfect 10 out of 10! My family and I have ate here several times as this restaurant is spacious enough to accommodate large parties. There is a private room (fits 10-11), main dining area, and an outdoor patio. On the weekends it gets very busy and the wait time can range from 20-45 mins. Pineapple Buns w/ Butter (2 per order): palm sized buns with a thick slab of butter in between, was a 3/5. The buns weren't very warm despite being just served to the table, and the portion of it were small HK French Toast w/ Peanut Butter (4 slices): I enjoyed the thick slices, but there wasn't enough nor any pieces of fried egg wash on the toast. It looked just like fried toast with a dash of powdered sugar with a side of syrup 3/5 Beef Stew Lo Mein: delicious egg noodle with tender pieces of beef and bok Choy 4/5, size could've been bigger Grilled Fish Filet: came with creamy mashed potato, peas and carrots, and a tasty grilled fish 5/5 Deep Fried Pork Chop w/ Honey Sauce: good, but there's better at Tasty Box. The pork chops are very tender, but could use a little longer in the fryer to get a crispy crust. It was a bit inconsistent, but the flavor was solid id give that a 5/5 but for what you pay 3/5 Honey Walnut & Shrimp: a classic dish, sweet mayonnaise coated in perfectly blanched shrimp blanched topped with candied walnuts 5/5 (make sure they give you rice!!) Every dish came out fairly slowly, we'd have already finished one dish before the next one came out. Makes me believe kitchen staff is understaffed as we weren't able to get all our dishes served all at once. Their service is 2/5, during our entire meal none of the staff were able to check on us in the private room to ask if we needed anything, we self served the bowls set out in the corner, had to ask multiple servers to checkup on our complimentary sides of rice, no waters were served unless asked, and refills were hard to come by too. Although they can accommodate large parties, the food and service is just okay. I came across their promotion on the chicken when I was visiting the hair stylist in the same plaza. The deal was "buy half get half free". I thought it was a great deal so I placed the take out order. It was lunch time so I waited for 15-20 minutes. They were pretty busy on a Wednesday. The chicken itself was fine. Not amazing but I would say definitely tasty. However, I won't go back or recommend this place for a couple reasons: 1) the deal was not that great after I realized that half chicken is $21.99. This is much more expensive than any other restaurants, which usually cost around $16 -$18 in this area. Note that their roasted duck is only $18.99 for half portion. I've never seen a restaurant would charge more on chicken than duck. 2) I got half chicken so the order was a whole chicken; however, it didn't seem to be a whole chicken. When we were questioning how come there were not too many meat in the chicken, my mom found there three chicken feet. There were also quite a few pieces of chicken neck. This just confirmed our suspicions about the portion of the chicken. There were less meat but the box was filled with extra chicken feet and neck bone. The food here is actually pretty good. I came with two other people on a Saturday around 12:15 PM. One person ordered their grilled pork chop plates and my other friend and I shared the pan fried tofu stuffed with shrimp paste, the braised string beans and the sweet and sour pork. All the food was really good and great portions. The reason I'm only giving 3 stars is because the wait for the food was ridiculous. First off there is a bit of a wait to be seated which is totally fine. But we ordered all the food plus two items to-go and the grilled pork chops came out fairly quickly but that was it. Maybe like 20 minutes later, the to-go items came out but our three other dishes still hadn't come out. Eventually the one friend pretty much finished eating and needed to leave first. Our other dishes finally came out when the third person was leaving. We did have them check multiple times but they just kept saying that they're working on it. I wasn't really paying attention to time closely and we chatted the whole time while waiting but I think it had to have taken at least an hour before those three stir friend dishes came out. When we first got there the restaurant was super busy with people still waiting outside. By the time we finished the restaurant was already half empty which just shows how long we were there. So, while I liked the food, I'd probably only get takeout in the future unless I'm not too hungry or have a lot of time to spare. Also, there is parking. We came during Saturday brunch time, thinking it's going to be an hour wait due to the line of people. We got seated right away because they had outdoor seating available, when everybody else wanted to sit inside. The restaurant had nice decor inside. The outdoor seating area felt open and clean. I prefer al fresco dining whenever possible. Service was a little slow only because we were seated outside, but not terrible... we've had worse. The food. Delicious. Everything. The wonton was delicious. I prefer this over Chan Kee's. Flavorful and whole shrimp! The broth was savory and piping hot. My picky eater loved his duck. He's very particular about roasted, his favorite. He enjoyed his wonton noodle soup with his roasted duck. The Singapore style fried vermicelli was prepared perfectly. I thought they had very little shrimp, but the fried eggs along with the roasted char siu helped even out the dish. The braised beef wasn't tender enough, but very tasty.
