In a town that seems to offer two types of dining experiences -- low-priced, low-quality diners or very, very high-priced gourmet -- Kyoto Kafe was a breath of fresh air. I was in town for a few days a couple of months ago and dined at Kyoto twice, happy to enjoy a healthy, tasty meal both times. Looking for a good bargain? Good Japanese food? Well, you DEFINITELY won't find either at this local Korean-run eatery. Let's start by saying that the service was reasonably tolerable - we were offered drinks, my "hot" water coming back lukewarm and my friend's cold water with floating crusty debris in it. Our server disappeared and within a period of about 15 minutes, not long but the time seemed to roll by with the drawling country music playing in the nearly empty restaurant. The star of any restaurant, along with its ambiance, should be its food - quality, taste, quantity (at least for the price). I'd have to say that this place failed horribly at each. The salmon teriyaki (priced at $8.95 before tax) came out after we saw the chef place some meat in the microwave not too long before - it was a bowl no larger than your outspread head, with maybe two handfuls of rice, drenched in a disgusting teriyaki sauce that tasted like a mix with a spicy BBQ sauce. Now, the salmon was another story. Instead of reading "salmon teriyaki" on the menu, it should have read "unbattered fish stick". Instead of the well-cooked, pan-seared salmon I had hoped and expected, I ended up with a single piece of meat, a sorry excuse for salmon. Never in my life had I seen a piece so small - approximately 4.5 inches in length and about 1 inch in width. On top of that, the meat itself wasn't hot, but boarding on cold and warm; it was dry, flavorless (except for the parts which were drenched in disgusting teriyaki sauce) and certain parts were hard and chewy. My dish, the exact one that my friend also ordered, was pitiful for the $9+ I would be forking up for my "meal." It was so revolting that I wasn't able to even finish it in its entirety, despite my famished appetite from a full day hiking and driving in Yosemite just an hour before. I could have gotten a better meal from Japantown in SF (known for their high prices and small portions) and would have probably been more full for cheaper than I paid at this place. I honestly cannot even fathom how this place is still in business. If you're ever in the neighborhood, save yourself the hassle and money and forget about going to this place! read more

It was thanksgiving and this place was the only place that was open at that moment. So we gave this place a chance, we went it and there was a lady and a man working there, the lights were off it was very dark. I ordered shrimp tempura, kyoza, 2 orders of tempura udon, 2 orders of spicy ramen, and one miso ramen. They messed up my orders and told me that was I wrong, I remember what I ordered and she was convinced that she was right. DON'T EAT HERE! We were here Aug. 17th, 2017 at noon, we were the only customers (6 including a baby) and we didn't make a mess nor were we rude. Absolutely the worst place we have eaten this year, er, ever. The worst customer service, the owner did not want to give change on our $80 tab! We tipped anyway, on second thought, we shouldn't have. We ordered the dinner chicken teriyaki bento, for our daughter, for the tempura because the lunch bento did not offer tempura. It had no shrimp, no onions, none of the usual fried tempura goodies one would come to expect but he deep fried bell peppers, WTF! Plus the chicken was so dry it could have passed as jerky. I will write another review in Korean, Spanish, German, Italian, and Farsi whatever it takes to prevent people from wasting their hard earned money on terrible customer service and equally awful food. This "restaurant" is a scam, it takes patron's money without providing much goods nor services, much like FEMA. This restaurant is a great place to stop by after visiting Yosemite. The prices are very affordable and the entire staff was very nice and welcoming. They have a wide selection including both Japanese and Korean menu items. I would recommend getting their speciality sushi rolls and/or bulgogi (Korean marinated beef). My family was traveling around Yosemite. We were cold and hungry. While we were looking for something to eat, we found the letters ' jjam bbong ' so we went in. And we ordered jjam bbong and it was great! Jjam bbong is like spicy noodle with soup. My daughter and son ordered bento ( don ka tsu) and they said it was awesome. The owner was so friendly and nice. If my family goes to Yosemite again im sure im going to Kyoto Kafe again and enjoy their meal! read more

We had dinner at this restaurant three times when we took a trip last week. We ordered ramen noodle, sushi and teriyaki bento box. Noodle is ok for me. I like sushi here.There was a good variety of sushi to select. It's solid, fresh and delicious. You can expect restaurant quality sushi here. Service was fast and great. The entire staff was very friendly and helpfu, from master sushi chef down to our waitstaff. The price was fair compared with other restaurant we tried. If you are nearby, looking for something convenient, quick and clean, I'd totally recommend it. read more
