Absolute hidden gem! I came here to pick up a few desserts for a family dinner. They had about 7 different kinds when I went so we got 2 each. They also make Buche de noels for Christmas. Each was stunning to look at as well as eat. They're small so you only get 2 delectable bites but each is unique and an explosion of flavor. There were a few patrons working on laptops and enjoying other baked goods so I could definitely see this spot as my new work spot/lazy Sunday coffee spot. The pastries looked to die for. We actually ordered a croissant to go but in the flurry of desserts it got lost in the order. Definitely going back for the pastries and more dessert. I brought my in-laws here and they both said the Almond Croissant is the best they've ever had. I've been to Paris and I would say it's certainly up there. The ambiance and staff are great. The coffee is decent, but they don't have decaf which is unfortunate for people sensitive to caffeine. I'd go here much more frequently if they did. I went back a 2nd time a few weeks after the in-laws and they were sold out of Almond Croissants at 10 AM. Boooo! The chocolate, almond, nutella (i think) substitute was too sweet. Bought one pastry for, I found out, $10 plus tax. Others on this board remark on the prices being high -- objectively high, and also high compared to obvious comparisons in the area. That's certainly true. But more than that, the prices aren't posted. Would be so easy to have a little label next to each item giving its name and price, as most bakeries do. Instead, they don't post the price -- making customers think "Well, it will probably be a normal price, let's give it a try", only to learn the true, shocking price later. Is it even legal, in WA/Bellevue, to have items available for purchase in a bakery/cafe/store, but prices not shown? I don't know. It shouldn't be. Food was good. But I felt cheated. I went to this place this week for the first time to pick up a buche de Noel/Christmas log (the berry one). Not only was it not really a Christmas log (it's usually a layered cake with buttercream. This was just cream with food coloring) but it was also expensive ($78) and inedible. Nobody at the table could eat it and we just tossed it in the trash. We were extremely careful with it, kept it refrigerated until about 15 minutes before serving but it was just a terrible dessert, one of the worst we ever had. I had high expectations for this place but it was ok. If you want to eat here for brunch, they require reservations. But you can still pop in and buy something from their bakery. Their brunch menu and food was underwhelming. I don't recommend their food at all. The eggs Benedict's were way too overpriced for what you get. It looked like something you can make at home. Atmosphere was fantastic and food was even better! Friendly staff greeted us right when we walked in and made great food recommendations. Sat down and walked around to look at the wine. Gentleman who took our order came by and told us that our coffee is waiting for us. Decided to do some Champagne tasting while waiting for brunch and when the food came, it was a beautiful sight and everything tasted amazing. Textures fully complemented the amazing flavors as well. Two stars only for the ambiance (Paris feels). Food was nowhere close to what we had in Paris. Veg eggs benedict was okay but we didn't like anything else (salmon eggs benedict, french toast). Cappuccino was bland and hot chocolate was particularly disappointing - it looked white and hardly had any chocolate flavor. Basically tasted like hot milk. Didn't try the bakery but that looked good. Might be worth a try. This place has macarons from Pierre Hermes. We tasted those in Paris during our Europe trip and loved them. So we were excited to see them in Seattle. But they are overpriced here, available only in packs of 12/24 and have very limited options so didn't even try. Wish it lived up to the image it creates. Theeee worst customer service I have ever experienced! And I work in hospitality.. came in with my service dog because he barked once. Kids were running all over the place and I kept telling the clientele that unfortunately my 15lb dog cannot be petted. The manager (who by the way was dressed like she just rolled out of bed & this is supposed to be a posh French cafe) ran over and yelled at us that we need to leave immediately. Embarrassing to be yelled at by staff for no reason. I've experience some extreme rude clients but I've never yelled or screamed at patrons. I occasionally stop by at L'Experience, Bellevue location. When I crave for good croissants, it's been my to-go cafe. (I mean by 'good' ones that has light and crispy textures on the outside and the bouncy texture when you bite in.) Their Formula brunch is delicious, too and its portion is quite large to fill up the rest of your afternoon. During the stay-home order (which is happening as I'm posting this now), I craved their croissants and pastries and ordered via their website to pick up at the Bellevue location (There's also location in Mercer Island). I'm enjoying with a cup of warm coffee at my apartment now. They use butters and flour directly imported from France to bake the actual French style croissants, pastries, and cakes, available to indulge in the Northwest. I got the lemon ball pastry le petite yuzu, while the pastry itself was wonderful I would like to explain the two stars. First off the bakery case itself was quite limited in its's offerings, second the person helping did not help in explaining the flavors of the pastries or what they were. Being pretentious and calling them out in french does nothing well for anyone and this is from someone who has done 8 years of theoretical french. Second there are no marked prices anywhere in the case or behind the counter besides a menu board outside the store so I ended up paying $16 for one pastry, which is pretty ridiculous, even Manhattan doesn't charge these kind of prices. Totally understand there was some kind of issue with the phone - not sure why they couldn't update the curbside pickup instructions to reflect that or post something on their Instagram or website. Lastly, as someone who's currently working in customer service, I don't understand why Julien thinks it's appropriate to frame mistakes as a positive thing because it means his "small business can survive" COVID. L'Experience is a luxury chain operating in the most affluent neighborhoods around the greater Seattle area. They just opened a new branch in Issaquah, doesn't seem like they're too concerned about staying afloat. Also seems extremely small-minded to try to gain sympathy by mentioning the pandemic when there are actually small local businesses that were disproportionately affected by this. For example, Asian restaurants that were targets of xenophobic COVID-related racism or black business owners who were targets of hostility during BLM movements. Honestly if Julien had just mentioned their phone was down due to reasons out of their control and explained they were having staffing issues, that would have been a nice explanation. To me, this email had an oddly defensive tone and tried to avoid taking accountability by blaming current events. I guess this is what happens when you take a Microsoft exec and put him in charge of hospitality. Tl;dr: Are you an Instagrammer user like me who was interested in trying L'experience due to their marketing and aesthetic? Please don't support this business. There are tons of absolute sweethearts in the Seattle/greater area who sell divine cakes and pastries of all nationalities. This place is a disaster. They're doing their best, but it's obvious that they have no clear business plan. This shop can't decide if it's a restaurant, store or bakery, and it suffers for it. Expect everything to be low on stock or completely out; we were shocked at how much wine was out of stock and how much the bakery was empty/not-replenished when we were there. Front of house is lovely but they're all completely clueless about their product and how to work in service. NEVER BELIEVE WHAT YOU SEE ON SOCIAL MEDIA! I had such high hopes for this restaurant as I love traveling to France. But based on my breakfast experience last weekend I'll stick to our local shop Bakery Nouveau. After what seemed like a 30-minute wait for meals, my order the Croque Monsieur finally arrived I was underwhelmed and dismayed by what was discovered on my dish. My Croque Monsieur appeared to have succumbed to the heat bulb. It was as flat as a pancake and completely black. With a small portion of boring greens on the side, the flavor was scorched and nothing else. My companion had the quiche, and while the filling was rich and wonderful, the entire shell was scorched, detracting from what could have been a fantastic dish. To make matters worse, Our server never checked on us, so I couldn't ask her to repair anything. I've been in the restaurant industry for 15 years, mostly in high-end establishments, and the lack of service at L'Experience Paris -Bellevue astounds me. Don't take my word for it, but I believe the server was the floor manager because she was the only one dressed in all black and not like the other server's uniform that day. I wouldn't want her in charge of my restaurant if she were. This is not the place for all the Covid-aware people out there! Everyone is crammed into the small walkway immediately in front of the main counter because there is only one entry and exit. Everyone who is waiting for a table or buying pastries will run into you. Prepare to become trapped as traffic tries to figure out where to go in the congested area. The designers forgot one key element here and its Functionality. read more

I was invited for lunch to this restaurant. Yesterday was February 20, 2022. Beautiful pastries, friendly staff. I had Eggs Benedict with tomatoes and basil. Not particularly tasty, but eatable. My latte was good, though. On the way home, in the car, about 40 min after I ate lunch, I became violently sick. I barely made it home and I am still sick, the next day!!! Do not eat there! Very disappointing experience with them. I ordered my birthday cake on 5/24 and set the pickup on 5/27. They took my order, my credit card was charged and I received a confirmation msg. When I went there on 5/27, it said they are closed for a week from 5/25-5/31. I went for nothing and got no cake to celebrate my birthday with friends. I'm very sad and don't recommend this bakery. Ah, I was so excited to try this place. With so many good French bakeries in Seattle, I couldn't wait to try this place. Unfortunately they are not the same calibre. I got there at around 9:45 AM and the shelves were almost bare. At this point they were very slowly putting baked goods out. At this point with not much to choose from I picked a blueberry dessert and a coffee. My husband got a cheese and ham croissant with a coffee. As I put my fork into my dessert I quickly realized that it was just whipped cream on top of a pastry. I thought it had some kind of a custard creme. I could only get through half. Just no taste and although looked beautiful, it was clear that it had taken little skill to do. I felt like we had been ripped off. My husband said his was very mediocre. When the bill came it was $33 before tip. I checked the menu and each pastry was priced around $15. It was a joke. The bakery is priced like it is Bakery Nouveau but in fact it is on par with the chained restaurant The French Bakery. It's kind of like the equivalent of a Panera Bread. This is a repeat of my review of the Mercer Island location since the pastries are the same. Sweets from l'experience are some of the best I've ever had. Everything we've had has been amazing! Our favorites so far are the yuzu tart and the almond croissant. The tart has complex perfectly mixed flavors and the croissant is the perfect blend of flakiness and soft with perfectly sweet almond filling. So. Good. Everything is baked at the Mercer island location and there have been more choices there than the times we've been to the Bellevue location but they may have just sold out before we got there. We went for a brunch and quite surprised with their menu which is highly limited for a brunch. You have two choice to make for brunch. One is egg Benedict and other one is French Toast. They don't even have sandwiches during weekend. They don't even have ketchup. I don't recommend this place for a family brunch if you don't want to be disappointed. read more
