I've been there before and didn't have great service so this definitely made my night. Our server Winnifer was so nice and gave great recommendations. I started with the Ratatouille, I didn't realize that this was served cold but was still delicious 7.5/10. Then, I had the Loup De Mer Barigoule, which is Mediterranean Seabass served with veggies. I went to La Belle Helene with some friends for our birthdays in mid-November. It is right downtown in a fun spot, just make sure you go a little early to find parking. The place is beautiful and meticulously designed and decorated with European elegance in mind. Everything we ordered was fabulous and perfectly prepared. Our waiter was attentive and polite. To me, the Boeuf Bourguignon is your classic French dish. Braised short ribs in a red wine sauce with carrots, onions, mushrooms and potatoes. You will not be disappointed. The Carolina Trout Almondine had great flavor but came smotheredddd in green beans and almonds - at first we wondered if there was a piece of fish under there. My only dislike was the Foie Gras. If not, chances are you'll be disappointed with the seating arrangement. The expectation for a certain level of service is valid. Starters French Onion Soup - on the sweeter side but all the usual suspects were present. Recommend Moules DE Pei - delicious broth but 1/4 of the mussels were unopened. Never a good thing to eat unopened mussels. I was surprised this made it to the table. Raw Oysters - chef's selection. Server did not give details. All were the same profile. PEI most likely. Steak Frites - cooked to perfection (med rare). Served with haricot verts. Recommend. Salmon a la plancha - during our visit it included chorizo. It made for a salty dish. Salmon was cooked well but the chorizo was overpowering. Vegetables were also over done. Espresso - giant serving. One size fits all. Probably won't be back. Not the best first impression. We enjoyed a business dinner here this week, seated at a gorgeous large table near the end of the restaurant by the kitchen. The interior is stunning, and all of the staff were attentive and friendly. Drinks were delicious, the menu is small but I actually saw quite a few things I wanted to try and there were several nice seafood options. I enjoyed the sea bass that was recommended by our server. Portions were perfect for me but a few folks at the table commented that their steak was on the smaller side. The only criticism I would have is that the vegetarian in our party had very few options other than the tomato soup or a side of green beans (so thankful for plentiful warm crusty bread and salted butter). The manager visited our table at the end of the meal and he did apologize for this. I've been here twice: once for brunch and once during restaurant week for dinner. Both were *chefs kiss*. This place is so stunning it is mesmerizing. AESTHETICS. I love the modern French inspo decor everywhere... with giant mirrors, intricate light fixtures, private booths along the sides with built-ins, fun tile, and a European-style bathroom. Everything is so well-thought out, from the receipt coming in a book, down to the sugar cube dispensers for our espresso. The service was great both times I visited! For brunch: the French toast was a little dry, but i will definitely be back to try crepes and a few other of their dishes. The French onion soup and martini hit it. For dinner: their steak, deviled eggs, and tomato soup/grilled cheese were my favorite- but they were part of the prefixe Restaurant Week menu. I've done takeout here before, ate on the patio for happy hour, and most recently dined in for brunch. Food is always good and the staff is friendly. I love the ambience of this place! Recently we celebrated our anniversary here with friends, and had reservations for brunch on a weekend. They brought in a bottle of champagne, which the restaurant allowed us to drink (after a corkage fee of course), also brought us a cake, which the restaurant served at the end of our meal. So nice! Our server left a little to be desired. She was nice, but didn't really seem to be familiar with things you would expect a server to know. For instance - she didn't know if a salad could be served with oil and vinegar, and she was unsure of some other things, however another server nearby jumped in with no issue and brought out what we needed. I ordered the flagnarde aux pêches- a baked French pancake. I'm usually drawn to things on the menu like French toast, waffles and pancakes, so this was right up my alley. Unfortunately it was a small serving, and everything is à la carte, so I had to order a side of bacon, but otherwise nothing else was served with the pancake. It also took a long time to prepare it, so we waited a while for it to be brought to the table and then it was just OK. I probably wouldn't order it the next time I return for brunch. read more

This was my fourth and final stop for January 2022 Queen's Feast dinners. I had always heard mixed reviews about this place and with it closing and reopening and all that the past year I finally got a chance to check it out. I had low hopes going in but it exceeded my expectations for sure! Such a beautiful restaurant. Def top 5 restaurants to take guests from out of towb When: Thursday evening 7:15pm reservation; party of 7 Food: 4.2/5 - For my queen's feast pick three I chose the oeufs mimosa (deviled eggs w/ caviar), salmon a la plancha basquaise, and the le parisian (choc cake). The meal started out with these little cheesy biscuits.. and is it bad to say this was my favorite part of the meal??! Hahaha. They were so fluffy and buttery and just amazing.. definitely can taste the "french" in these petite biscuits. So. Good. The rest of my meal was good but TBH nothing super special to match the vibe of the restaurant which was classy and fancy. Service: 4.5/5 - our server was great but the food runners and other servers that helped him were ehhh. Maybe they were all new and not properly trained yet but no one had our seating down with who was supposed to get what. All of our drinks were placed with the wrong people so we had to trade drinks. And all of our food as well.. the runners would come with a dish/drink and stand there confused with where it was supposed to go until someone in my party said it was theirs. Everyone was very nice though so that was good. Vibes: 5/5 - since we were a larger group, we were seated in one of those private dining rooms with large windows to overlook the main dining area. The decor in the room was wonderful, nice bookcase and accents. The decor in the whole restaurant was beautiful!!! A nice fancy place to get dressed up whether it be a date, GNO, or just dinner with friends. You will be sure to impress any guests if you take them here. Other: No free parking or validation. Came here during lunch on a weekday. Not very much to choose from and no coffee, lattes or pastries. At least, that's what the bartender had informed us since we sat at the bar. Seems they only offer certain items during brunch(Saturday & sundays) which is a shame, since it gets quite busy during the weekends(reservations recommended) I personally like going off peak days/hours so I can enjoy the food and experience. To the restaurant, pls consider giving your guests at least coffee or latte options during the weekdays(it's much needed) Other than that, I enjoyed the chicken salad sandwich and ambiance is nice. Good portion size with chips in the side. First off, the interior is beautiful. There was definitely a lot of attention to detail when constructing the restaurant. Even the bathroom has that "instagramable" touch to it. As you walk in, I love that there is always a table adorned with fresh flowers. Service was a little weird when we got there. Upon being seating, we were shortly thereafter given water. But then it took almost 8 minutes before a waiter came to our table. It was busy but not horrible. Then a lovely woman finally stopped by to explain that there was miscommunication and that our assigned waiter just left for the day. She seemed a bit irritated by it but was very nice and friendly to us. She, in turn, became our waitress. I wish I remembered her name because she was great throughout dinner. Answered questions and even made sure that My daughter's salmon dish was prepared to get liking (without the chorizo, since she does not eat meat). As for the food and what we ordered: Starters: - Escargot en croute - Delicious! I like the balance of the escargot with the buttery puff pastry. Eat it warm though. My husband made the mistake of waiting to eat the last one and it had gotten a little cold. - French onion soup - My husband loved it. Said it was one of the best ones he's had in awhile. - Ratatouille chaud - It's technically an Accoutrement, but my daughter wanted it as a starter. If you get the actual ratatouille that is the starter, it's a cold dish. The Accoutrement is the warm version. It was delicious. The vegetables were flavorful and cooked well. They kept the crunch without the dish getting "soggy". Entrees: - Crispy Duck Confit - The skin was crispy, as promised, with the meat juicy and flavorful. It wasn't oily, which duck can sometimes be at restaurants. The cooked leeks that it was laid on was delicious and balanced well with the saltiness from the duck. - Salmon A La Plancha Basquaise - My daughter enjoyed it and said the sauce it was on was delicious. - Porchetta - Delicious! Not overly salty. Balanced well with the tomato Confit and mushrooms. Dessert: - Le Citron - Presentation all night was beautiful but this dessert wins them all. It comes out looking like a real lemon. Then you smack or crack the lemon with the back of your spoon to open up to the delicious dessert. It had the citrus without going overboard and was balanced well with the sweetness. - Petite Gâteau Au Chocolat - Basically, a mini orange cake with a dark chocolate type ganache. I loved the tartness of the passionfruit cremeux with the bitterness of the dark chocolate. The orange chiffon was silky and delicious. - La Noix De Pécan - The presentation was beautiful. I enjoyed the different textures from all the various components of the dessert. It wasn't overly sweet. Overall, the experience was great. Good was all delicious and there wasn't anything we didn't enjoy. Staff was friendly and restaurant itself, beautiful. We went for an early dinner before the Charlotte FC game. Firstly, the atmosphere in the restaurant is fantastic, very well done - elegant and comfortable. Our waitress was fantastic - cannot recall her name but she had fancy pens and used to work in Asheville at Chestnut. She was the best restaurant waitress we have had in years, maybe ever. Next, the food. We started with the Cheese Plate which was outstanding, the 3 cheeses along with olives, truffle mushrooms and a delicious blueberry jam were a perfect combination. The chicken was really good but I was not a fan of the bread. It was difficult for me to eat. My husband had the Delphi to drink: he's an old fashioned type of guy and he said the Delphi was a bit harsh. I had the Nyx and it was amazing!!! I would've had another had the new waiter asked if we needed anything. Overall, I would recommend this place. I enjoyed it. We went to La Belle Helene for my birthday while visiting Charlotte. We had reservations for 7pm and we were seated immediately. The interior is well lit with a high ceiling and plenty of space, though the seating is intimate (you could overheat conversations and such). We had already looked at the menu so we placed our orders fairly quickly and they came out QUICK. Parking ----------- La Belle Helene is right on South Tryon, we parked at the garage right behind Wells Fargo which was only a block away. Otherwise, there are plenty of garages in the area as well as street parking if you get lucky! Appetizers ---------------- The four deviled eggs with caviar were like an explosion of flavor but that might be biased since I could eat 20 normal deviled eggs in a sitting without any guilt. They were pretty filling and we felt it was worth the price. Steak tartare was good alone but fantastic with the buttered bread and the garnish of dill and microgreens. This was one of our favorites. A little pricey for the amount, but it wasn't off putting. Entrees ------------ For the entree, I had the Mediterranean sea bass with artichokes, carrots, pearl onions, and lardons. The seabass was extremely crispy and the inside was very delicate. Veggies were soft and had the melt-in-your-mouth texture for contrast, while the lardons gave you a bit of good chew. The sauce was creamy, but couldn't put my finger on it (maybe a brandy or sherry sauce?). The trout/green bean almondine was simple but done very well. Trout was tender and delicate and the brown butter was the primary taste profile with the shallots and green beans providing the texture contrast. We thought about grabbing a side of something like mashed potatoes but with the appetizers it was way more than enough food. Drinks ---------- I had two cocktails that were good but the pictures were not. The panacea's revival was a cocktail of gin, lemon, lime, and fernet with a garnish of dehydrated lime. It had a sour/bitter hint though not as strong as a negroni. Definitely my favorite of the two (the waiter let me know the namesake cocktail was quite sweet). The second cocktail I had was the hebe's cup which had vodka, limoncello, elderflower, lemon, and egg white. Foamy, sour, sweet, and a little thick due to the egg white. This one was tasty and texturally pleasing though a bit too sour for me! The wine list is huge but not the best selection by glass, though we weren't itching for wine anyway. --- In hindsight I wish I got the confit duck since I can't get that often, but I was still super impressed. I've been here a few times already. I've dubbed it as my favorite restaurant to frequent but for some reason it's always a hassle to get the adequate seating I'd like. I had a date the prior night and I reserved for a standard seating which is a table. We arrived an hour early. We left to have a drink elsewhere while we waited and yet we were still sat at a high top. Even though my date inquired about this, we were told we'd have to wait longer. There's no point to make a reservation for something and I'm not given what I reserved. I'll be taking a break from this establishment and try other local restaurants for a while. As much as I enjoyed the food and the atmosphere, I do have to share my disappointment in the service. We arrived 10 minutes early for an 8:30 reservation and we were not seated until almost 9:15. The service continued to be slow the rest of the night with us almost leaving until after 11pm. I'm not sure where the disconnect lies but I really hope they fix the issue soon! Negative stars if I could for lack of customer care. I attended a NYE party here that was horrible. It was as if no planning at all had gone in to this almost $200 event. It was supposed to start at 10 PM. They didn't open the doors until about 10:20 and there were still tables full of diners from dinner, so absolutely no where for us to go. Everyone then rushed to the bar to be greeted by 3 bartenders. THREE bartenders...maybe four with a bar back? I don't know. I didn't get my first drink until 10:50 PM. I was ignored several times and actually had to have someone sitting at the bar order for me. The buffet dinner was atrocious. It basically contained meat only, which I can't and don't eat. There was no menu beforehand or even when we got there, so there was no way of knowing. I ate some macaroni and cheese. The plates were tiny, not enough room for anything anyway. No where to sit. Absolutely no where. There was no announcement for the New Year, a very vague and quick count down only. No champagne toast. No party favors. And the dance floor was about a foot big. There was no where to dance and no where to move. I contacted management twice since then with absolutely no response back. I am absolutely disgusted with this "party" and the money I spent for NOTHING. Will never be going back here. They do no care about their customers. read more

In the last couple of months I have had the pleasure of attending two holiday parties at La Belle Helene, and as much as I've admired it from outside, I have to say the restaurant is absolutely stunning inside. Modeled as a French Brasserie, the owners really put their heart into every detail making this a very elegant and sophisticated restaurant. It features a long welcoming bar, and private rooms for smaller events. While I was there I was very impressed with the level of service, and all of the food that came out was delicious. If you are looking for a special place to hold an event, or maybe a romantic date night, then La Belle Helen will certainly match that vibe. One thing to note is that the bathrooms are all single stall and unisex with a shared sink room for washing hands. If you walk in and see a member of the opposite sec washing their hands, don't panic, you didn't accidentally get all into the wrong bathroom. Trying to think of an appropriate intro phrase for this great restaurant and all I can think of is: impressionnante With a reservation set for two on a Saturday night this place was packed. Inside the restaurant is classy yet modern in it's own ways. We were seated at an intimate table overlooking the city. Our soft-spoken server, Enrique was absolutely fantastic. He went through the menu explaining the cuisine and how everything was made from scratch. Rather than indulging in the menu, we opted to share the Mediterranean sea bass and the butternut squash risotto. Probably the best separately paired combination. The risotto had an autumn feel, savory in itself but even better when combined with the sauce that accompanied the Loup De Mer, a very tasty and fresh sea bass that was perfectly prepared. For dessert we opted for the dessert feature. No idea what was in but this changes regularly but OMG so awesome. I want to start by saying that the atmosphere and the ambiance here is everything you wanted and more. The space is absolutely beautiful, and nothing can take away from that. Outside of the ambiance, unfortunately, my fiancé and I were underwhelmed. The ratatouille we ordered as an appetizer was delicious and the flavors in the vegetables were amazing. However, after that, unfortunately our experience went downhill. The duck that my fiancé ordered was very* salty. I believe that someone must have miscalculated how adding more salt would communicate with the other flavors in the dish-- it was overwhelming. Then, my dish had the French onions that you sprinkle over green bean casserole-- as what seemed like the primary flavor/seasoning; which is disappointing and laughable for the price paid. There were maybe 4 almonds in my dish, that I could barely taste over the onions. We did appreciate that our birthdays were acknowledged, mine being on the 12th and my fiancé's on the 24th-- we came in to celebrate on the 19th and were offered a glass of champagne. However, I do believe that as much attention that was paid to the ambiance, should have been paid to the food. Had it not been for how beautiful the place was, we definitely would have left 2 stars. read more

This review is difficult for me because I so wanted to be wowed and love La Belle Helene! It's been on our list for some time and we thought we'd give it a try the weekend leading up to V-day. Decor was spectacular, service terrible, and food mediocre. We had an early evening reservation (5:15). However we stood waiting for a half hour while watching other guests come in after us be seated while we continued waiting. The staff was apologetic and ensured us our wait was due to another table seated privately taking longer than expected. Since the "private" tables looked more intimate and inviting I thought ok, maybe worth the wait. However, 30 minutes later we were seated at a standard table near the kitchen and bathroom. I'm a tad put off, but willing to let it go. We ordered salads lyonnaise, arugula beet salad, and the ratatouille to start, followed by the chicken, steak frites, and the short rib. The arugula beet salad was probably the highlight. Fresh and full of flavor! Our server raved over the salad lyonnaise but it was more croutons than anything, that quickly turned to mush. Ratatouille was fine, but definitely nothing to rave over nor would order again. My husband enjoyed the chicken. Huge portion! Steak frites good. Short ribs tender and not fatty, but nothing special. We did sit for long periods of time waiting for water glasses to be refilled, drink orders to be taken in between the meal, and a food request was forgotten by our server. At that point we were over it and didn't push for the forgotten item. Ambience you have 5+ stars. But all else was mediocre or fallen short. read more
