I'm not a big chain restaurant eater but I'd change my mind for this restaurant and I must not be the only person. My party ate early and it was a good thing as there was a line out the door at 5 p.m.. We started with plantain chips. They came with a mojo sauce. I could have made a meal out of that alone. The chips were perfectly cooked with the right amount of crunch. The mojo sauce wasn't too tart or bitter. Just delicious. The bartender made delicious Mojito's and even made my own drink-raspberry kool aide (Chambord with orange juice and sprite). My main entree was beef churrasco carretero-skirt steak served with moros rice, "fufú" mashed green plantains and chimi-churri sauce. Although it was cooked to my liking, the meat wasn't as flavorful as I was hoping for. A member of my party ordered an entire fish and although it looked wonderful, it was overcooked making the fish tough and dry. Dessert was the equivalent of creme brulee. Came for lunch and ordered Chicken Chunks with Rice and Plantains they served me Chicken Wings with Rice and plantains since when are chicken chunks chicken wings so disappointed. Plus the waiter says that's the way it's served at all La Carreta Locations which is a LIE! La Carreta. A Miami icon known for their Latin Flavors should exceed most restaurants expectations. Unfortunately, it didn't exceed ours. At first, we ordered the "Mariguitas" with lime and garlic dipping sauce, but it tasted like water with small pieces of garlic floating on top. I went to add salt to my food, but I was surprised to see what I saw.... the salt shaker was rusted in the inside and sticky with unknown substance that smelled like metal. (See pic) Completely lost my appetite just wondering what else my food was exposed to. i got breakfast at this place and the service all around was disgusting. I hate spending money in a place that was not good. the place smells wierd and old inside. After we sat down, the waitress came in 5 minutes and asked if we were ready to order. At this point, we didn't have water or bread. We placed our food order. When the we were done I asked the waitress to bring us water. A few minutes passed, we still didn't get bread and water. We observed the waitress standing with another waiter talking for 5 minutes. I come here for the food and definitely not for the service. Wait staff (during brunch hours) huddles by the service station talking about guests. You can hear them trashing the guests!! Stopped in on our way home from the keys and noticed they have lots of parking space perfect for our little 15ft rv. The atmosphere is like a Cuban Olive Garden and the wait staff is very friendly. spacious seating everyone is more than 6ft apart and the food is flavorful and well presented. YUM read more

The whole experience was bad. Went there s from Aloft concierge. Waitress could not communicate at all. She brought me the wrong meal, even though I pointed to it on the menu. Sent meal back. Ordered ropa vieja. When correct meal came, kitchen switched plain rice, as stated on mumu, for a rice and bean mixture. Sent that back. Co-worker wanted the ASSORTED CROQUETTES, and was told they were not available. She then ordered a cuban sandwich, blah and didn't eat it all or enjoy it. This was her 1st time visiting Miami and 1st time having Cuban food. I'm very disappointed and will not frequent the restaurant or any other one if it's chains. Super rude they mess things up and then don't even say sorry. They always charge me before checking if they even have what they are charging me for and then after I've paid they say they don't have and can't get refund. They never have anything. Thank you for your service My dad's funeral one month anniversary is today and yesterday we went to mass, to the Cementary and decided to go and eat at the Carreta. César, our waiter was excelente. we were a group of 19 and he took separate group orders, all the food was on time and great. It has been forever since we had dined at this location. Easily 9 years. For no other reason than well, there are a million Cuban places to eat in Miami, and when in the Intl. Mall or Dolphin area we usually go to Mojitos for their Vaca frita de Pollo. So we decided to give it a chance, what do we have to lose? It was pretty good, they didn't have Vaca Frita de Pollo so I went with the Vaca frita. It was tasty as were the Moros and the tostones. Prices reasonable except for the fact that my hubby wanted to replace the rice with salad and they counted that as 2 sides. If the salad had been huge it would have been fine but it was not big and ll it had was iceberg lettuce, tomatoes and onions. Decor is supercute and the place is nice and big. read more

A friend and I were headed to Dolphin Mall at around 1 on Sunday afternoon, were hungry and decided to stop here. In short, no complaints at all. Though the place was very busy and we were lucky to find parking as quickly as we did (we noticed as we left that 3 or 4 cars were sitting idle in the lot, waiting for a space to open up), we were seated right away and given menus when we walked in, and by the time the server arrived to take our beverage orders, we were ready to order both our drinks and our meals. I had the Churrasco steak with rice/beans and plantains with a Sprite, my dining companion had the chicken with rice and a café con leche. My steak was very flavorful (if not a touch salty), as was the churrasco. The rice and beans were perfect, and the soft slices of bread with melted butter and garlic they put on the table for us to share before our meals arrived really hit the spot, as we were hungry. The total bill came to just over $31 before gratuity for everything, which was reasonable. It should also be noted that our meals were served to us surprisingly quickly after we placed our orders. The only part of the experience that lacked a bit of polish on this day was the service. My friend needed to ask for sugar for his café con leche, but wasn't able to get a servers' attention for a few minutes after they'd brought his drink. Also, while they gave me a straw when they served my soda (note that they serve cans of soda here, rather than fountain service), my friend had to ask a passing server for a straw for his ice water. Additionally, after we finished our meals, we had to wait a bit longer than we should've for our check to be given to us. read more

Cuban food is meant to be greasy, tasty, and flavorful - bottom line. I am alright with my peoples cuisine....we put pork in almost everything, the portions are large and oh yea - we like onions a lot. Out of all La Carreta's in town I would say this one is always the most consistent. It's ALWAYS packed so parking at times can be tough but the food and service is always on point. Even with it always being packed there is so much seating, you rarely have to wait - and if you do it's always a quick wait. For starters I get croquettas or tostones. They also bring out bread which has a garlic butter (or oil) sauce. Once again, the majority of the stuff is fried goodness, so if you are counting calories, this probably isn't the place for a healthy lunch. My favorite plate is always Vaca Frita, which literally translates to "fried cow" - how can that not sound perfect to you?! It comes with two sides and I always get congri - which is rice and beans mixed together with little chunks of pork - and I always get platano maduro, sometimes platanos can be hard, but here they are always perfect. Service is tough if you don't speak Spanish, but it is actually getting better and the servers make an effort to speak English if they see you don't speak Spanish. They are always attentive, filling up water glasses and checking in sporadically to see how the meal is. read more

You know when you go to a Chinese restaurant and everyone dining is Chinese and you know you're in a good place? That's exactly how I felt about La Carreta, I felt I was in Havana. Families old and young, all enjoying their Sunday dinner. While it's meetpalooza there, I thought I would go the seafood route. Thought they would do a pretty good job since Cuba, you know, is an island. I was right, it was pretty tasty stuff. I enjoyed the Shrimp Creole, which was a great seafood stew in a tomato sauce. So tasty with rice. The plantains on the side are so sweet, I just ate them as dessert. This location is in the parking lot of the International Mall, and it is a great family place. I saw a few private rooms off the main dining room, so would be a great (and inexpensive) spot ot have a group shin dig. read more

You can't go wrong with anything from La Carreta. It might not be fancy and it has a lot of competition from other places like Sergios, Havana Harry, and Isla Canarias. But this place is definitely the standard when it comes to Cuban food. They offer vaca frita, ropa vieja, masita de puerco, chicharron de pollo, croquetas, media noches, arroz imperial, and I can go on and on. If you're ever in the mood to just take your food home and eat it, you can order your stuff at the window they have on the side. Or if all you're just craving is some coffee, maybe a pastelito or croquetas, this window is the spot. Their breakfast option is great too! $8 and you'll have a large breakfast with eggs, croquetas, hams, potatoes, toast, and your much needed cafe con leche. Portions are just great. You get your money's worth here. Service is always great. You're well tended to here. From the waiter to the busboy, everyone provides a great service. read more

I have been going to this restaurant for 19 years and today I had the bad idea to order a lunch for my kids and I. For my surprise the portion of the mashed potatoes was ridiculously small. Not even could feed a 4 years old kid! I took the time to come back to talk to the manager and for my surprise he told me that this is the portion (one small scoop) because it is a side! Can you believe that I paid $35.00 fo a two orders of a bistec with plátanos maduros and one little scoop of mashed potatoes? This La Carreta in Doral, FL (by Miami International Mall) is good. I tried the masitas de puerco and the vaca frita -- it was good. Everyone else in my family who ate here have enjoyed it.
