I am not unique in saying this is likely the best place to eat in the high desert. A literal desert that was, for many years, a "food desert" as well. My girlfriend and I were visiting the area and she wanted to make sure to wing by. She said that this was a must before we left and we swung by before leaving Joshua Tree. While we couldn't get a reservation and be seated inside, the staff was able to seat us outside. While the weather was chilly, the food was delicious. Awful. They tell you to sign in. And after waiting 45 minutes. They tell you "oh well we sit reservations first." In all, unbelievably slow. They have plenty of open seats and tables. I have been wanting to visit La Copine for the longest time and we decided to stop over on a weekend during King of the Hammers. They were busy but the wait wasn't that long and they have a great patio with a fun shop stocked with local art objects to peruse. We were seated after several minutes, the service was very good and helpful, they definitely earned their tip. We had the steak and it was magnificent. We also had a soup which was delicious. The ambiance was fantastic, we were able to sit outside in their patio and really enjoy the desert vibes. The place is rather trendy, but really fun. I would highly recommend it. The prices are not cheap, but reasonable for the quality of the food and the enjoyable ambiance. We're coming back!! read more

This is a mixed review for a funky, hippie dippy little restaurant in the middle of - NOWHERE. It is about 8 miles off of Twentynine Palms Highway. First, the good. The Panna cotta Keylime dessert was lovely. Did not taste a strong essence of Keylime, but more like a slight whisper. The cherry purée was a good counterpoint as well as the mascarpone topping. I would give it five out of five stars. A very rich tasting dessert. Now, the not so great. My entrée was the rockfish fish cake. It was served as a round patty with a nice crust to it on a bit of tamarind Puree. On top of the patty was a bit of mashed avocado and some micro greens. That is it, nothing more nothing less. However, the fish cake itself was incredibly bland. I could have been eating anything that could be mushed (and I do mean mushed as to the texture) up. No flavoring whatsoever. The tamarind purée was the only thing that gave this dish any flavor whatsoever. Service was attentive. A nice touch was the simple syrup for my iced tea. If I return, I would order my protein dish as something I could identify. read more

This place is absolutely fantastic! I had the chance to visit and I didn't regret it for a second. The service here is simply amazing. The waitstaff is incredibly charming, kind, and attentive. We ordered the Cheesesteak Wit and Chicken Agrodolce. I have never tasted a sandwich so delicious in my life! The beef in the Cheesesteak Wit practically melted in my mouth, and the chicken was served with a remarkably tasty cabbage accompaniment. I was left speechless! It was a really cold day and our fault for not being better dressed to wait for our table (we were a few minutes early for our reservation which was also running late). Pro tip: you can try for a reservation via text. Hipsters abound and I get why it's on the radar of many foodies. Fresh, interesting menu and a slight California bohemian vibe. Service was warm and friendly, a little lagging, but easy to grab someone. We had a number of dishes and saved room for dessert. All were good, but we were surprised that the potato side was the best thing we ate. Probably a bit heavy handed on the aioli, but great crispy salty potato goodness. Prices were fair and we saw lots of folks enjoying adult beverages with their lunch, but we were so cold we stuck to coffee and tea. Parking was good. Outdoor seating: we had a dog and it is dog friendly, it was also Really hot and there were flies around sometimes. DO NOT BE LATE FOR YOUR RESERVED TIME. We arrived at the restaurant 12 min after our reserved time through no fault of our own (gps said a dirt road went through to the main road but it didn't so we had to go the long way around). We tried calling but it went right to pre-recorded message without being able to leave a message. I've been in the restaurant industry for over 25 years and there is an unspoken 15 min grace period because things happen. After an hour and a half of being lead to believe we would get a table they said they couldn't accommodate us so we ordered to go. My friend went to the bathroom and saw our table was open. After asking if we could sit there and eat when the owner screamed at her saying she serves 400 people a day and didn't need our business so she canceled our order. She will sadly be in the middle of nowhere alone if she keeps treating people like that. read more

It was really warm out there so my only suggestion is a few umbrellas for the sun. Otherwise the food was brought out promptly and we had a great time. Just got done dining at La Copine for brunch and was completely blown away by my experience. I have been to the Joshua Tree area a couple of times , but never had the opportunity to make it out to this establishment. I can honestly say this place is the best dining experience I've had here. We got to the restaurant early and put our names on the list, as we read that there can be a wait. All of the staff were extremely friendly and bubbly. There was a slight wait, so we decided to buy a bottle of bubbly and relax in the shade. Definitely recommend. For food we got the shrimp roll and the "le burger". Wow, I got to try both and they were both exceptional. The shrimp roll was honestly on par with some of the best rolls I've had in Boston. The le burger had this amazing sauce that kind of reminded me of "tikka masala" . So unique and delicious. All in all , I will definitely be coming back. The atmosphere is so fun and hip, with a desert chic vibe. The staff is so friendly . The food is amazing and the people watching is great. I have been coming to La Copine consistently since I moved to the desert four years ago. I've lived in foodie type cities like San Francisco and Portland and I can say that not only is this the best food in the high desert it might be some of the best food I've eaten anywhere. Not only is the food excellent but the service is top notch. I've been there on busy days and I've been there on slower days and I've always had friendly and attentive service. A cute little stand alone building out in the middle of the desert makes for a really relaxing ambiance and atmosphere. I recommend the Rockfish Cake and the Steak Sando. I was a bit disappointed by the $45 halibut entree. Sauce tastes like straight butter but the fish was very mushy. I would have liked it a little denser consistency. My daughter and I had a great experience here. I learned about this restaurant about a week before our weekend trip so I was able to reserve a table for lunch on a Sunday afternoon at 2. Definitely make a reservation, otherwise plan to have to wait a bit. There is a cute, inviting waiting area outside along with a camper trailer selling wares. We didn't have a huge appetite so we shared the beets and burrata salad and potato bravas while I ordered a spritzer and my daughter enjoyed a Mexican coke. The food is absolutely delicious. Yes yes yes! Have been here before, but this was our first for the fall 2022 menu and wow. Love this food so much. Started with Gem Salad, perfect! SandWitch is a must - southern fried chicken, lil spicy and honey sweet, what's not to love, plus side Papas with the most delicious lemon mayo and a hint of rosemary. This is one of the best run kitchens with scratch made food we've ever tasted, and we've been across the country for foodie indulgences. Talent, love, freshness and a lively ambiance. Average .. we didn't really felt welcoming or had introduction on the menu. The pro about this place is food comes out really fast. The con.. the food. Evey dishes include the salad was way too salty. We literally see the salt "crystal" sparking on the salad, steak and bread. Anything that's "bread" is heavily soaked in oil, garlic bread was salty, dripping in oil and burned . ( wait until you see the price tag on 4 tinny slice) The only highlight of the meal was our fried chicken . We were so discouraged on our entire meal that we rushed out the place in 40 min and went to local grocery store to buy food and cooked at our Airbnb .. Is it a tourist trap? Or the chef had a bad day? Not sure. This clearly is a popular spot with crazy reviews that I do not agree with . I recommend this place if you happen to be passing through the yucca Valley. Overpriced and a bit pretentious and too much of a scene. A few things on the menu are good. The chicken sandwich which is now not a chicken sandwich was served on a bit of whatever that was, was overcooked. The whipped ricotta was delicious. We went to LA Copine because it has been in multiple newspapers and magazines. There is plenty of parking but you should arrive early because the line started before the restaurant opened. We had a reservation and did not have to wait, which was nice. To drink, I ordered the sangria and the Italian cocktail. Both of them were great, I enjoyed the sangria more. Their glasses are a little small when you order cocktails with ice is my only complaint. For food, we had the wagyu skewers, bravas, rockfish cake, beets and pears and the cheesesteak sandwich. The skewers were very tender and cooked perfectly. The beets and pears were pretty standard. The rockfish cake was interesting but also pretty standard. The bravas were amazing and the cheesesteak sandwich was the highlight of the brunch. The combination of sauce, meat and bread is incredible. The service is very attentive.
