They always deliver excellence. Shrimp Aguachile and chilaquiles. I forgot to add chorizo but still so good. My only complaint today was the chicharrones were a little hard and small. But we added them into our dishes which was a great idea!!!
Swung by with some friends for a quick drink on a Saturday morning. It's an oddly shaped building, so the line queues right up against the doors, but luckily we didn't have to wait long. I got a matcha latte, which did run a bit on the expensive end but which was very good. We didn't get any food items but did sit for a few minutes in one of the booths to chat. Despite being so busy, it feels small and intimate. Too fun!
Decided to try this coffee shop since it has rave reviews. I had an iced latte with cajeta flavored cold foam and oat milk. The latte seemed so simple but was a 100/10! The staff was prompt in handling the long line, but not very engaging. Probably since they were SO BUSY! I was surprised at how much they batched their drinks. The matcha and horchata was in a container. Honestly, she made my latte by the time we were done paying too. There is plenty of room to do work at this location, and it is a perfect hub for college students or people looking to gather.
La Costa seems like it's always busy. I came late on a weekday morning and the line was still out the door! It did move fast and even with the amount of business they get, there was a good selection of seating available. Nice place! Love all the large plants and the bright, spacious feel. I had a cappuccino and the chilaquiles. They have a warning about their food being spicy and is definitely true! I haven't been eating spicy food lately, so I'm glad I was sharing the dish because there is no way I'd be able to handle eating the whole thing myself. Self-serve water, napkins, and cutlery. Only hiccup was that I received a text that my drink was ready, but it wasn't. I went and stood by the bar, confused for a couple minutes & thinking it would be out shortly, before asking someone. They had it prepared shortly after. Parking can be a bit challenging. It's all street parking; be cognizant of the no parking signs on some days/times. I enjoyed the drink, food, and atmosphere.
Just bought a real book 'Black Flags, Blue Waters' and wanted to enjoy a nice cappuccino. Came here and got one with pretty heart foam. Staff so friendly. Luv this place.
La Costa is how I became a matcha lover! My go to order is an iced matcha with brown sugar syrup. Simple, but so good every time. It can get pretty busy, but the atmosphere is lovely. When I think of downtown Sacramento, I always think of La Costa and the surrounding area. I love grabbing a matcha here and taking a walk nearby. Their avocado toast is also delicious. The spice they add gives it the perfect kick and makes it stand out from your typical avocado toast. Definitely one of my favorite spots in downtown Sac! #like #comment #livelaughlovelife!
Consistently one of our favorites. Best drink I've had so far is the Cafe de Olla latte (decaf). Every one of their toasts, ceviches and tostadas we have had had such a depth of flavor. Today we got the salmon tartare which was delicious! Staff is always helpful and the space is always lively!
Ummmm yes please!!! La Costca has amazing tostadas!!! Came here on a Saturday around 11am, there was a line out the door but it moves so quickly. It can be hard to find a spot to dine at as the restaurant isn't that big. They do have some outdoor tables available but the weather was really cold that day and we got extremely luckily inside getting a spot at the coffee bar. My friend ordered the crab tostada and is was sooooo good. Not sure for how they plan to have that on the menu but definitely order that while you can. I had the tuna morena tostada. Came as one large tostada piled high with tuna, cucumber , jicama, peanuts cilantro. They served my dish with extra tostadas. Love how they are just so generous with the food. Parking can be tricky as it's in downtown so be prepared to do some walking or taking a minute to find a good parking spot. Next time I came back I would love to try their cubano sandwich. Would highly recommend this spot.
Matcha is incredible! My friend and I went there earlier this week and the vibe and service was amazing. Drinks came out within around 5 minutes. Granted, it was a little packed with limited seating when I went (around 11:20 am), but it was well deserved and expected for a cafe such as La Costa. Would definitely recommend!
We've been wanting to try this place since it opened and by the time we moved out of Sac we've been hearing so many great reviews on the drinks and food, we finally came back into town and tried it. Iced Horchata hafcaf with Cajeta Soft Foam: 10/10 Iced Mocha: 7/10, needs more mocha Breakfast Tacos: 10/10 flavorful and prepared well Avocado Toast: 10/10 Pastries: 10/10 love the fun concha flavors, banana bread was so moist, chocolate cookie was soft Service: We did a to go order BUT when we came in there wasn't a "pick up" here location, so we waited in line to ask for items. I'm guessing online vs in person order, must be stay in line regardless? Ambiance: lots of seating, I could see why it gets busy and full so getting there early helps. A good amount of outdoor space if needed! Overall we would definitely come back here again and try all the different drinks and foods!!!
This cafe is super cute and was a great spot for breakfast with friends on the weekend. We got the sweet potato and avocado tostada which was really fresh and also huge! We also got the mushroom toast, delicious, and the chilaquiles which were yummy and just the right amount of spice. Surprisingly my favorite was their cornbread, which might be my favorite I've ever tried! The onlyyy downside was the chai latte I got. My sisters got the vanilla latte and matcha latte with a shot of vanilla latte added and both really liked theirs. My chai was just a little bland. The food and drinks came out quickly and the man taking orders was quick and really nice. I'll definitely be back!
The drink was super yummy! But the avocado toast was incredibly oily to the point that when I'm eating it it's dripping down my hand. It was really noisy inside as well. The service was good just the lines are slow but everyone is extremely nice and helpful when I asked questions!
Food is the show stopper here. coffee is coffee. Usually coffee shop food is really bland and boring. This place adds a spicy touch to their creative menu. We got the tuna tostada and there was so much texture and flavor in every bite! We came for coffee/small snack. My wife and I shared the tostada. We will be back to try the rest of the menu.

Overall, the drink was decent, nothing special or amazing. I would come back if I couldn't find matcha anywhere else in downtown Sacramento, but definitely not my first choice. Drink: (3/5) Regular Matcha Latte ($7.07 with tax) Decent matcha latte, not bad but not great. If you are looking for strong, earthy, grassy notes of matcha, this is definitely not the place for you. However, if you're new to matcha, this would be a great starter. The matcha flavor is there but it's quite subtle, it's more milky than matcha. Additionally, the matcha mix is not made to order, they premake large batches. Service & Ambiance: (4/5) I came on a Sunday around 10:30 and there was already a huge line out the door, but the service was quick. It took about 25 minutes from getting in line to receiving my order. They had someone taking orders outside while we waited, and then we picked up our drinks inside. The café's interior is cute but small, so if you want a table, be sure to grab one first before ordering. read more

WOW I have been dying to try this place after getting it recommended so many times and it did not disappoint. The matcha was great, the perfect amount of sweet and not chalky at all. The chilaquiles were the star of the show!!! Perfect amount of sauce, spicy, just everything you want in chilaquiles. My favorite are homemade just because It's so hard to find good chilaquiles but these met all my expectations. All of the topping also made it great (I added the chorizo). I came on a Sunday morning and it was very busy, all of the indoor seating was taken, we were able to score a spot as people were leaving. Very minimal interior but I liked the layout and various seating options. Will definitely be back soon! read more

Their food is so amazing, I could go on and on about it. I would especially recommend the tostadas. However their matcha was not good in my opinion unless you like sweet matcha. It kinda tasted like green tea ice cream, not exactly a traditional matcha latte. read more
Horchata Latte 1/5 Im not sure if I got a bad batch but my Horchata Latte was grainy. I was not expecting the texture when I was drinking it. Also, the drink itself didn't have a coffee taste to it. Im not sure if the espresso isn't strong or they just added too much Horchata. Iced Vanilla Latte 2/5 Sraight up Milk. Maybe it was the size we got. Im not sure. We didn't enjoy it. Pan Dulce 5/5 Light, airy, and yummy. This was very good! Chocolate Chip Cookie 5/5 Our daughter really enjoyed this! This place does get very busy and there is seating inside and out. This place is pretty hyped but I see the reason why. It's got a unique menu that includes breakfast tacos, chorizo avocado toast, and concha's. We tried all the above and especially loved the avocado toast. The black sesame vanilla concha was so soft. Tacos were fine enough but probably wouldn't get again. We went midweek and got the last place to sit so I can't imagine going on a weekend! Chill ambiance though and great service but was confusing on where to put all our dishes etc. read more
This was my second time coming to La Costa Cafe and let me tell you, it did not disappoint. The first time I played it safe and ordered a classic Iced Vanilla Latte. Honestly, it wasn't the best coffee I've ever had, but I'm so glad I didn't write this place off after that visit. After seeing so many glowing reviews on Yelp and TikTok hyping up their matcha lattes and food, I knew I had to come back and give those a try. I ordered: - Ricotta Toast ($14) - Iced Matcha Latte with oat milk + vanilla syrup ($9 total, including the $2.50 up-charge for oat milk and vanilla syrup) My friend that ended up joining me ordered: - Chilaquiles with chorizo ($14 + $3.50 for chorizo) - Aguachile Rojo Ceviche ($18) Let me just start off by saying that the matcha definitely lived up to the hype. If you're someone who doesn't love that super earthy, bitter matcha taste, this is the spot for you. It's smooth, slightly sweet, and just really well-balanced. Before leaving, I even grabbed a second one to go! The Ricotta Toast is perfect if you lean more toward light and sweet brunch options. It's topped with their house-made strawberry jam, fresh strawberries, mint, and a touch of lemon zest. I'm usually more of a savory person, so it wasn't something I'd personally crave. This was something I went out of my comfort zone for, but nonetheless it was still delicious. The toast itself had the perfect crunch and held up well under all those toppings without getting soggy, which I appreciated. Now the chilaquiles... oh my God. Easily my favorite item of the day. I'm still thinking about them and already planning my return just to order them. And of course, I always end up enjoying the item somebody else ordered more than my own. The aguachile rojo ceviche? A close second favorite. The spice level was just right, and the combination of mango, cucumber, and onion added a refreshing sweetness and crunch that tied everything together beautifully. I haven't had ceviche in a looong time, but this satisfied those cravings. The service has always been amazing. Everyone (from the cashier to the barista to the kitchen crew) is so kind and welcoming. I ended up staying to get some work done and didn't even realize I was there until closing. That's how comfortable I felt the entire time, and they did not rush me at all. The space itself is super bright, inviting, and aesthetically pleasing. There's plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors, though it can get a little packed during busy hours. Still, the staff does a great job getting customers in and out and managing the line. Mexican Style Coctel De Camaron Ceviche 5/5 Cucumber Lime Agua Fresca 5/5 Loved this place!! The exterior and interior is very nice and clean, they even have outdoor seating as well. We came on a Saturday afternoon and it was pretty busy with a line forming out of the door but the wait wasn't too bad. I do wish the ceviche was a little more spicier but it was pretty good and the drinks were really refreshing. My friends and I had a great time, we would definitely come again. read more

Matcha. Matcha. Matcha! This place is a gem and I can't get enough. Food is amazing and coffee is fresh. Love the taste of their breakfast. We ordered a bunch and tried different tasty treats but if you are a matcha lover, this is the spot. Service is quick, wait and line can be long on the weekend- if you want to brunch, plan ahead. Few seats inside and we chose the outside seating. Order, pay, get a number and enjoy the perfect yumminess and real earthy matcha goodness. The greenery and plants inside is to die for. Coffee and Ceviche is an unusual combo in my book, but I'm glad to see this place thriving. Taking over a space that housed a former diner this small cafe has made itself a popular stop in Sacramento. Lately I have even seen lines out the door. It deserves the recognition because this place happens to serve some really REFRESHING ceviche. On a hot day a cool, citrusy and sour bite of Peruvian style ceviche will cool you down and momentarily make you forget about the scorching Sacramento summer. I'll be honest when the ceviche came out of the kitchen it looked so colorful and beautiful that I almost didn't want to eat it. I didn't feel that way for long. The beauty of this dish is the different ingredients and textures combining together for one perfect bite. If you can get the sweetness and soft texture of the sweet potato with the crunchy corn, citrusy fish and red onions in one bite then you'll understand the appeal of this dish. I can describe it but you're better off just trying it. The Diablo Rojo is appropriately named and packs a Thai hot/german mustard level of spicy that I enjoy from time to time but I'd stick with the Peruvian style or Mexican style ceviche. They were serving these dishes with large tostadas but I would much rather they serve these with chips or even a tortilla for all the wonderful liquid gold that gets left behind once the fish and all its supporting ingredients are gone. Local place with good chilaquiles! It gets really packed inside so unfortunately had to sit outside in the cold but I didn't mind lol Chilaquiles- it's so hard to find good chilaquiles that aren't just chips with salsa on top. These had sauce on every inch and had a pool of it at the bottom of the plate, which best believe I scraped up. The salsa itself was perfectly spicy for those who can't eat too much spice. My Mexican mom even approved of these lol and the soft boiled egg?! Chef kiss! Iced Matcha latte- rich matcha flavor, easy to drink. With so many places having matcha it's hard to know if you'll get a good one, but this one is pretty solid! read more

The coffee here is awesome and the vibe is so cute. Only reason I dropped a star was that their 8 oz lattes cost 6.50 and they only provide whole milk or non dairy vs having lower fat milk options and you get charged 1.50 for the non dairy options which I think is not reasonable to charge people because they self limit options for those trying to limit fat content. other than that- cute place! I had the best time here! I love beautiful cafes like these! The store is filled with plants and warm lighting, perfect ambiance for a cute brunch date. The workers are the absolute sweetest, so communicative and welcoming! It does get pretty busy! Lines often go out the door- Menus are located near entrance! Self serve, grab our own utensils, and bust your table afterwards. Outdoor seating is available and indoor booths! Drinks come out super fast! Food took about 10-12 minutes, didn't mind because WOW. Two Breakfast tacos: the flavors are amazing! Great blend of fresh veggies, bit of protein, and queso! Very filling, pairs nicely with their chili oil. Bang for your buck!! Mushroom Toast: a MUST TRY for mushroom lovers! They are cooked to perfection, seasoned phenomenally. The toast had the perfect crunch that balances the soft tenderness of the toppings. First item to be devoured entirely! Salmon Tartare: interesting... The flavor was strong- each component hits at different times. One second potent salmon, the next zesty dill flavor, and then a kick of spice! The latte art is soo pretty! Everything here is so aesthetically pleasing!! La Costa is one of my favorite coffee shops in Midtown! I've seen all the hype on social media and decided to swing by on a Saturday morning. When I arrived, the line was out the door, but it wasn't a deterrent at all since it moves fast. Inside is spacious, and I like that La Costa has bar stools, booths, and outdoor seating options. I ordered a matcha latte and a half black sesame and vanilla concha to go. The matcha latte was delicious, and the concha may just be the best I've ever had! I love how creative La Costa's flavors are, and the bread was soft and the sugar wasn't crumbly at all. I can't wait for my next visit and plan to sit down so that I can enjoy the full breakfast menu. read more

ohhhh love it here! was very surprised by the quality of the food. cafes can be hit or miss when it comes to food. the avocado toast was to die for and it filled my craving perfectly. i also had a side of the chicharrones and a small horchata. both delicious. service is friendly and quick, lots of seating space (it can get filled fast). i was able to sit in peace and do some work on my laptop. my only thing is that by the window, there was a bit of a bug problem. they looked like ants or gnats. other than that, i would come back! read more

Love this cozy little café super cute indoor decorations they keep it simple. Staff is kind of friendly and really knows their stuff they made the most fluffy foamy and creamy cappuccino I have ever had. It was a spot on delicious. I also gave the avocado toast. A try avocado was amazing perfectly seasoned and creamy spread over whole wheat bread, perfectly toasted, crispy bacon and a nice sunny side of egg, a beautifully balanced breakfast jampacked with protein and the perfect pairing with a coffee. Gave La Costa Cafe a try and it's a really solid 4-star spot. The absolute standout was the Salmon Tartare, super fresh and delicious, definitely a 4/5. We also tried the Crab Tostada and the Wild Mushroom Toast. Both were decent 3.5 star dishes, just not quite as amazing as the tartare. Overall, the food is good and I'd definitely go back to try more of the menu. read more
We came by La Costa Cafe around 11am on a Saturday and it was quite busy. You order at the front and find seating yourself afterwards. It's clean, modern and nice and open inside, but given how busy it is it can get a little crowded with everyone standing near the front waiting for their orders. We actually came just for drinks, but saw some other people with an order of chilaquiles and ended up buying food as well. The workers were super nice and checked if we could get ceviche (it's not available until 11am), and then we grabbed our number and found a table near the back. -Agua Chile Ceviche: this was excellent, with large, tender pieces of shrimp, the perfect amount of lime and spice, and fresh crunch from the cucumbers and onions. It comes with just the right amount of crispy tostada to put the ceviche on top of. Coffee/matcha with ceviche sounds like a weird combination, but definitely get this! -Chilaquiles: we added on chorizo and this was a hearty, filling dish with also a nice touch of spice. -Drinks: I got the pumpkin spice latte, and my friends got matcha - the drinks were good but didn't standout like the ceviche did! La costa is a cute - though a little pricey - cafe. I'll definitely be back for the ceviche next time I'm in the area! read more

La Costa is one of our favorite place to visit , when we have time to just slow down and relax . My go to order is the iced horchata latte with a shot of espresso -- it's honestly perfect ! The mocha is pretty good too, though sometimes a bit on the sweet side. Their pastries are solid, i very much enjoy their delicious conchas. The texture is a bit more airy then traditional conchas i believe, but I'm not an expert on Mexican pastries. I enjoyed both their mushroom and avocado toasts many times . They have a great menu and mostly delivers on consistency and service . However, on my most recent visit I left a bit disappointed with my experience. I ordered the avocado toast with chorizo which comes with a 6 minute boiled egg. Usually the egg is perfectly cooked and has a slight runny yolk which compliments the dish , but this time my egg was overcooked and cold. The dish just looked very dry and I was not expecting the egg to be so cold . The cold boiled egg detracted from the overall enjoyment of the dish . It was disappointing, especially considering how pricey it is -- almost $20. The toast was still good, but I hope the kitchen will be better and consistent . Please bring back the perfect yolks eggs . As a side note , my hot drink was served in a mug that was obviously cracked , with deep stains in the cracks (photos attached ) Cracks in porcelain are known to harbor bacteria. It was off putting and not what I would expect from a quality business establishment. I will continue to support this business, because they do have a great menu and friendly service , but the old cracked stained mugs need to go ! read more

We got there early knowing it gets crowded. We got a nice table in the back. We ordered chilaquiles, pan de elote, regular coffee and a mocha. I was a little disappointed that they didn't have cafe de olla, café cortado, diet coke, anything sugar free they didn't have. we waited for the mocha but the man never called out our name. My husband had to go to the bar and realized his coffee had been sitting there for a while. Food was ok, pan de elote was GREAT! Nice location, quiet overall. I need to go back for lunch. read more

The service for drinks could be improved I stopped in to pick up their highly rated match latte and I stood in line with everybody who was there to order food. Since I had been there before for food I was hoping there was a separate line for to-go drinks but there isn't. I wasn't in a hurry so I waited and ordered a small matcha latte to-go. Their menu listed it for $6.50. I paid over $7 and received the tiniest cup of Matcha I have ever seen. The baby sized cup is so small that I could fit it from the top of the cup to the bottom of the cup between my index finger and thumb As for their food on a previous visit, I had their breakfast taco which was recommended by staff. My family loves La costas food and drinks. The breakfast tacos, tamales, avocado toast and pastries are absolutely amazing. The matcha and coffee are always tasty! The service is always very fast just wish the employees were a little more welcoming and friendly. I love the ambiance and decor of the cafe. I love this place and stop and get a Perico as often as possible... they are amazing... it might be my favorite dish in the region. The servers are kind and attentive. The ambience is very cute, but sometimes there's not enough seats... You can get the perico go and it tastes just as amazing... we also love their drinks. Went in on a busy morning, and tried both some of the drink options and food on the menu. The drink I ordered was good, and would definitely order again. The other options on the menu looked intriguing, and I'd try when back again. The food options were intriguing, and set them apart from other coffee shops. The ceviche I had was good, but for those sensitive to spice, I would warn you that it packs a kick. Is it the most hot, overwhelming type of heat? No, but it should be noted for those more sensitive to it. I'm not sensitive to heat, but figured it'd be noteworthy to share. The menu rotates, so you may be surprised what you find when you're actually there. You'll find a copy up front, and without a large one that's viewable from further away (at least when we went), you'll want to go near the front snap a pic of it while waiting in line. The fact that there's no big viewable menu for a rotating menu does cause a bit of a backup and slower pace since people do their thinking out processing when at the cashier. Some of the most popular or limited choices will sell out if you get there too late in the morning. I had some of their chilaquiles too, and they were solid. read more
