It wasn't busy at all but the service was really slow and lowkey bad. We got gelato as well and we saw it being scooped and sitting on the counter for 10 min/: melting. Collectively, we thought the food was a 4 and the service was a 2 at best. It's aesthetically pleasing. Very cute plates and decor. Great for pictures. The food is pretty too. What annoyed me the most was the added 3% optional FEE for the kitchen staff. Begrudgingly I paid it because I felt the cheap owners were not paying their kitchen staff enough. Another gimmick by business to shirk their duties to pay their employees a fair wage and pass their overhead onto the customer. La Gallina is a lovely restaurant with a beautiful setup and warm atmosphere. However, my food was just ok and the service was somewhat poor. I got a falafel salad which was good but nothing special, and my friends all seemed to enjoy their meals, too. We went on a slow Monday night but our dinners still took quite some time to come out. Also, one person's meal was brought out about 30 minutes before the rest of our meals, which was awkward for us as he sat there and let his dinner get cold. Our waitress wasn't very attentive and difficult to get a hold of, especially given how empty the restaurant was. Given this restaurant is still somewhat newer, I would assume they still have some kinks to work out. I hope to try La Gallina again. read more

The food is really, really good. Try the fried zucchini chips (so crisp and delicious, you'll need a second side of the dipping sauce). The burger is top, top notch (according to my wife, a target discerning burger eater), and the pizza is fantastic. Such good crust, delicious sauce, and the sauce to cheese ratio is right on point. Or if you're a pasta and red sauce fan, you MUST try the bucatini. So good... Avoid if you have allergies, children, any idea what Mediterranean food is supposed to taste like, or any expectation of anything but mediocre service! This place is a HOT MESS! I can't even begin to list the major issues with had with our dining experience! 1) They served my son with an egg allergy a burger on a brioche bun!!! They didn't even take away the burger patty when they realized their error! They just kept reassuring me that they are usually so careful. Even my 4 year old son could tell the bread had egg in it! 2) It took over 40 minutes to even get water, let alone order! The table next to us was served 3 full courses before we had even placed our entree order. Our server would drop the kids juice off at our table and run away before we could say anything and go take another table's order!! 3) After the egg/bun debacle, we asked them to please expedite the pizza my kids had ordered, and we still waited over 30 minutes for that to arrive! We walked past the pizza oven a few times on our way to the restrooms, and they were empty. It wasn't like there was a back up. They just didn't care enough to help us out. 4) Kids applesauce was served with forks. 5) They waited until everyone at the table had all their food to tell me that the item I had ordered was out. At this point, I couldn't even order a replacement. So, I ended up eating a piece of my kids pizza! 6) Their food is mediocre. Everything is either over seasoned/too spicy, or totally under seasoned. The Moroccan soup is a joke. It's a pot of tomato paste with a ton of under cooked spices in it. The burrata salad lacks salt and any acidity. The octopus was so spicy you can't taste anything else. 7) We complained multiple times to the hostess about our MIA server, and she kept promising to come over and help. Then she would seat another party and walk away!!! Regarding the egg allergy, I had called ahead to ask about allergy safety and added our allergies to our reservation, and then I listed them again to our server. My wife and I recently found LaGallina through my sister's recommendation about a month. We have been there 3 times since and every meal has been delicious. The atmosphere is great. Lucky enough to come here on Sunday, and we were all so happy with our experience. The service was great, drinks good, and the food was fantastic. If you come, and you should, the octopus is not to be missed. The hummus was surprisingly good, and our prosciutto and fig flatbread on point. As a Boston transplant to the North Shore, we have a dearth of quality restaurants in the area, and we miss good food. This is one of only a couple of places on the North Shore that truly is worth a trip out for dinner. Highly suggest this place to all. Even families--they have a kids menu too. read more

Starting with our warm welcome from Elizabeth to the delicious final sip of coffee we could not have enjoyed our lunch on a miserable grey March day more. Certainly worth the 40 minute drive. Beautiful, comfortable decor and a delightful menu with something to suit every taste. We started with the spirit free Elegant Cocktail, it was indeed elegant, citrusy with a touch of spice. The Moroccan Tomato soup was the perfect on a raw wet day just spicy enough to warm one up topped with melt in the mouth croutons and yogurt, followed by the roast chicken sandwich, layered pulled roast chicken, cheese, pancetta, tomato and avocado served on a light toasted bun. Our taste buds were singing. Unfortunately our stomachs were full so no dessert but some excellent coffee, something often missed in restaurants, I think the last taste before leaving a restaurant is the coffee one of us had black coffee the top thick with delicious crema and a smooth light cappuccino. All of this served by Alexsandro who was completely in tune with our leisurely lunch timing. It was the perfect place to take a friend for a birthday lunch celebration. This was my fourth visit to La Gallina. For this meal we sat at the bar for lunch. Service was great as usual and everything tasted wonderful. Had an open faced sandwich off the specials menu. Roasted beets with goat cheese, absolutely delicious. The only issue I had was the appetizer - Spanish Style Garlic Shrimp (Gambas Al Ajillo). We had this before and loved it. This time the dish had just 4 (FOUR) shrimp while the rest was about 30 pieces of quartered chorizo. I understand prices are going up for everything and would be happy to pay a little more to have more than just 4 shrimp. The ratio of shrimp to sausage was 30/70 (respectively). read more

vegetarians/vegans beware... after checking the menu online and seeing there were very few vegetarian options, i called ahead to be sure there were things on the menu that could be adjusted a little bit to accomodate my diet. i was assured that this would not be a problem. i ordered the falafel bowl without cheese and when it came to me, there was cheese all over it. the waitress was very nice and said they would remake it. however, when she brought a "new" one, it was very obvious that the kitchen staff picked out the large cubes of cheese and there was still sprinkled cheese all the way through my bowl. totally inappropriate and disappointing. the falafel itself was very bland, lacking flavor or any spice. read more

I made a reservation in advance in the hopes that this would be a great experience. Other than the lovely décor everything regarding our evening was exactly the opposite. I arrived much earlier than the rest of my party and decided to have a drink at the bar. other than staff standing around the entire place was empty I sat down and was "greeted" by a bartender with a scowl o her face... it was so obvious that I asked her what was wrong? was she feeling okay? Her flat, lifeless voice was as depressing as she seemed. This was so off-putting I thought, oh no.... is this the start of a bad night? It had better not be! I ordered a passionfruit martini. It took some time, but arrived with a dark cherry garnish. the drink itself was mediocre.. nothing special. But not bad either. Just before 6:00 hit I walked over to the host station and gave my name and reservation. Again, another person who seemed to stare right through me... Ok, she said and brought me over to a table very close to the open kitchen. By that time there were several people in the dining area already seated. the other members of my party arrived. Our server came by with menus and asked if we wanted to order a beverage.. most of us had a glass of wine. So-so domestic was priced at approximately $13 per glass... which I felt was on the high side for what we got. We had questions regarding the menu and our server who seemed nice just wasn't knowledgeable. She kept insisting that the tapas, salads and appetizers were never going to be enough food... and heavily pushed for us to order entrees. Upselling - it may be only myself and the diners I was with, but we really found it offensive.. And so we ordered - 1 of my dining companions ordered the mushroom pizza. another a ragu dish... I and another the chicken souvlaki - $30.00. I asked what the marinade was and if it was chicken breast or thigh? The server explained what she knew- which at the time was passable. Then I made it crystal clear that my meal needed to be VERY well done. Of course.... So it wasn't long before our meals were served - plopped on the table by runners. And I went to cut into mine.. guess what? Yes, you guessed it.. barely cooked. I can't even describe what a turn off that was! So I waited to flag someone down and explained that I would not be eating this chicken. They offered to take it back and grill it more... they did... it took some time but they brought it back. The second round just wasn't working... even whatever it was marinaded in was completely different than the server described. I found it absolutely inedible - horrible. My dining companions weren't too thrilled with their food either... but not to the degree I was. I never mind paying for GOOD food.. but I really take offense when it's inedible. I was going to just send it back a second time, but it took forever for our server to return... it just went way too long. I gave up. This restaurant charges an added percentage that supposedly goes to a kitchen fee.. for the staff? Am I too old-fashioned or being a fuddy-duddy to feel that if you just paid your help a fair wage???? I'd rather add it to their tip and hopefully it will go directly to them. Friend and I went to this pleasant restaurant for brunch yesterday. Very interesting menu. Enjoyed a yummy detox drink and my friend had an unusual variation on a Bloody Mary that she enjoyed. The garnish of cured meat and cheese looked like mini charcuterie board. I had the baklava French toast, which was poorly executed. It was supposed to have a whipped topping, but it melted under a heat lamp and the French toast was swimming in a watery liquid. It was also not very warm, so not appetizing. My friend's egg dish was far more substantial and the eggs were perfectly cooked. Server was very pleasant. I have to say the manager that was working that day was not friendly when I walked in, he didn't even look up to welcome me and there was nobody else around. The server was really friendly the ambience pretty and cozy. I wanted to post this review because of my entrée I got a tapis selection that was polenta and Ragu I love polenta but I must say that polenta itself was way too thin and it had no flavor. The Ragu was tasty but it was basically tomato sauce with meat in it and didn't have much of a Spanish flavor if you wanna know the truth. The biggest thing that I was offputting was the bread served with it was absolutely soaked with olive oil See pic , and they served it on a wooden platter which should've honestly had a dish on top of it because you can't tell me they put wooden platters in the dishwasher and it is a porous surface, so how does that really get cleaned? questions as I cook myself had to ask why would you let the food go out of the kitchen looking this way isn't there anyone checking entrées going out to see that the bread is cut way too thick and toasted way too much and soaked with oil?? and your chef should be making polenta better than store bought watery grits. read more

The atmosphere was great, live music 12-2 on Sundays and a full brunch menu in addition to the regular menu, and we were told Spanish guitar some Wednesday evenings. The servers were first rate, and the owner came by a couple of times to ensure things were fine. But the best was the food, the flavors were outstanding, the sauce on the eggplant was out of this world, the falafel was perfect, and the fresh catch (striped bass this day) was beautiful with a very flavorful tomato and olive sauce. We were sat down very quickly, BUT no server came to us after at-least 20 mins of being seated. And the waiters saw us sitting there and didn't even greet us or tell us they'd be with us shortly. After almost 30 minutes, my friend had to call a waitress over and we told them that we've been waiting and the waitress was like "okay, what do you guys want?" She didn't even apologize for the wait. So we just said we were gonna leave because I even noticed that the table next to us which had been sitting there over an hour didn't even get their food and it looked like they also got the order incorrect as well and sent it back. I tried getting a drink and bite to eat at the bar around 3pm and was told that the bar was full (even though the bar looked barely 25% full but figured staffing constraints and understood). Oddly a couple that walked in right before me told me that they were told they were closed between 3 and 4pm - not sure why the differing stories but oh well. So I shopped around and came back at 4pm to try again and was able to get sat. The bar was empty besides another couple at the time I was sat. There were 4, sometimes 5, bartenders behind the bar. Some looked pretty miserable being there made apparent by how they responded to the other couple that was there -- including some loud sighs / eye rolling. Another couple sat about 10 min after I was there and one of the bartenders greeted them and gave them water which gave me hope since I figured it was probably just a case of misunderstanding who was taking care of me (I wasn't upset by this as coming from the service industry myself this happens). I asked that bartender for water but after he gave me water he walked away before I could even get a word in on the cocktail I actually wanted. Again, this entire time about 4 or 5 bartenders were behind the bar (it's not that big of a bar). After waiting another 10 min, I decided to leave as I was then there for a total of 20+ min and ignored. It's awesome seeing a new restaurant concept at Market Street! La Gallina is hands down the best restaurant there, don't waste your taste buds on anywhere else when looking for some pre/post shopping bites. Their dips - especially the muhammara & the whipped feta. Hands down the biggest crowd pleaser for our table was the green falafel. Probably the freshest & most flavorful falafel I've had in the greater Boston area. And don't get me started on the avocado tzatziki sauce that came with it - mouthwatering! The greek meatballs were also a favorite. We also really loved their style of pizza. The dough was super light, fluffy and crispy with different options for delicious toppings.
