This was the WORST meal I've eaten at a LaMorenita! What a disappointment! I've been eating happily at the various family owned restaurants for over 36 years. The meat in the burrito Ranchero was tough and had an "off" taste. The grilled chicken salad was in WATER! I poured off a couple of tablespoons of water and there was still some water. The chicken didn't taste right, either. There were no forks or napkins in the bag and no cabbage salsa. When I called to complain, the man hung up on me! Service was good waitress was friendly . But in regards to cleanliness and food I personally wouldn't give any stars. Was nasty, salsa was watered down like so they didn't need to make more. Lighting inside was dark bathrooms were dirty I felt like I was in a port a potty just feeling dirty when I left is a good way to explain it. read more

This is the best Mexican food I have ever had...period. The flavors, spices, and huge portions are the best gift, especially the caldo de Camaron when it's cold. The breakfasts are incredible, and so tasty. I could eat there every day. Run don't walk! read more

We found this little restaurant by accident and it did not disappoint on the flavor of the food. First the pros. Friendly service by our waitress, food portions are very good, flavor of the food is outstanding (I ordered the chilaquiles plate). The only cons I had was that we waited about 40 minutes to receive our food, second the food is kind of pricey. My son wanted tamales and each tamal was priced at $5.00 or if you order 3+ it's around 4.50 4-75 so I instead got him the 2 tamal plate with rice and beans for around $12. read more

Bomb mango margarita Bomb chicken mole bomb rice and the beans with the melted cheese were freakin on point. Flour tortillas were a 4/10 but it's California, can't expect them to be higher when Cali is made up of corn tortillas. Young ladies were super nice and welcoming. Service was amazing. Giving this place 3 stars based on reputation from years ago. This place was the go to place before the power house Las Casuelas arrived. Took the family here on a whim of being hungry and tired of the traditional spots. Both my wife and I ate here growing up so we both knew the old appearance of the building didn't matter. So I'm not expecting much when it comes to Mexican food. For me the make or break is in the chips and salsa. It's typically the first thing to hit the table along with the drinks. I like chips hot and the salsa fresh and spicy. Unfortunately this was a huge miss on the restaurants part. They used to make their chips and they were amazing. The chips we received were comparable to the chips you buy in the grocery store, room temperature and like factory line chips. Extra salt wouldn't even adhere to the chips. I wanted to leave immediately but my party didn't want to. The salsa cup wasn't big enough to put a whole chip in. What's the concept here?? See if a family will eventually give in and not want it anymore? It was good salsa but who wants to fight over the salsa cup with four other people? Who wants to constantly ask for more salsa? I didn't. Why is this such a breaking point for me? Because I don't order extravagant dishes. I like the wet burrito. A basic burrito with green sauce poured on it. But the caveat to this is I like to dip my chips in the burrito. It's a delicious combination. It was not a delicious experience and knowing that I was going to drop $50 plus for a burrito with crap chips and limited salsa irritated me before we even ordered. Anyhow, the burrito was as good as any burrito but I was wrecked from the get go. How irritated was I? We even asked the waiter what happened to fresh chips?? The response was as expected; saving money. Sorry but cut corners somewhere else. Buy single ply toilet paper or eliminate straws and toothpicks. Don't mess with the tradition of fresh chips and salsa. Don't make me beg for more salsa every other chip. Best of luck in the future La Morenita. I loved the cabbage they provided with the chips. SO yummy! I had a chicken quesadilla supreme with rice and beans and it was great. Another great thing they did was bring my 5 year old her food early because it does take the younger ones longer. The reason for 3 stars is my Husband had the tamales and they upset his stomach really bad, even the next day he hasn't eaten anything because his stomach is all messed up from the food. Went here today and was not very satisfied the chips were served cold but the chips and salsa were actually really good probably the best thing about the meal,I got a LG shrimp cocktail that was not worth the price it came with only a little bit of smaller shrimp and very few vegetables and the shrimp was warm and I personally don't like the shrimp in my cocktails warm but the juice to it was ok but my mom got a combo plate with rice beans and a mini burrito and a chicken enchilada and she to was not at all satisfied I probably wouldn't comeback here again but I like how friendly the staff was read more

Having lived in Turlock for 30 years, I do not know how I had never been here. Had placed a phone order, went to pick up, waited maybe 5 minutes. Staff was so friendly, Jordan was kind, his sister also. The food was so good. We were very disappointed with today's visit. After the waitress never asked how our food was I told the young man checking us out that our chicken enchilada plate and grilled chicken nacho supreme both tasted like fish he told us that's because it's all cooked on the same surface and that we should have let them know so they could possibly fix the problem. He appoligized but that was it. We won't be going back anytime soon because we don't want our chicken nachos or chicken enchilada tasting like fish. Placed an order for take out, called it in one hour in advance walked in and was greeted by one of the waitress that ask for my name and order, I informed her my name was not taken at the time of placing my order. When she came back to confirm my order with me she stated it would be ready shortly. One hour passed by and I got up to ask about the order. Only to find out they never took my order since the begging I asked the waitress why they would confirm my order if it was never placed as they stated. It took them one whole hour for them to tell me it was never placed. It was closing hours, Everyone was ready to leave they did not want to help me. We haven't eaten at the old school La Morenita in at least 15 years. We were downtown for Thursday night market and decided to cross the street for dinner. It's like the place is frozen in time, absolutely nothing has changed, including the lackadaisical service. It's a good thing the food is still amazing, because I've never seen so many employees standing around doing nothing while we are waiting to order. My gold standard for a new Mexican restaurant is to try their chile verde. I've had La Morenita's eons ago, but since this was like a first time all over again I ordered it. I was not disappointed!! Great sauce, tender pork, good beans and rice and oh my god handmade corn tortillas. I don't remember the amazing tortillas!! The ho hum service is forgiven with the quality of the food. The wedding sauce or the fajitas are the shining stars so far at La Morenita. The thing you should know is not all La Morenita's are the same because they are all owned by different families and the Turlock one is by far the best. Someone stated in a review that it wasn't authentic mexican food because the salsa wasn't really hot... but it is spicy and that's were the difference lies between mexican food and it's imposters. On the drive from Nor Cal to LA, we were in need of a quick, non fast food bite. After a suggestion from a friend, we hit up La Morenita. It's a seat-yourself, menus are on the table kind of place. I first used the facilities, which weren't the cleanest I've seen. Anytime the roll of tp is balancing on the handicapped rail (and it doesn't smell like roses)l, it kinda gives me the heebie-jeebies. The service was very meh. Here's how the ordering went: "Can we get some guacamole?" "We don't have any today." "I'll get the carnitas." "We don't have any today." "I'll get the chicken burrito." "Ok." When we got our food, it was actually better than I expected. She did bring me steak instead of chicken, but it was still tasty. My friend got the chile verde, which was good too -- but it took a couple tries to get the tortillas. If they had guacamole, I might have cut them some slack. read more

Only 3 stars because in the last year, I've received some of the worst service ever!! For starters: food--6 stars!! Especially the la comquesta (#1) the mocajete and the camarones a la crema! Drinks: 0 stars (or negative if those existed!) first night, for a strawberry margarita. The ice chunks were so large that I couldn't use a straw and had to drink/eat with my mouth and was spitting up the ice chunks onto my plate. Gross! Next night, ordered a CORONA! Guess what I got? Coronita. Those don't sound the same. And when the server clearly made the mistake, the response was "I thought you said coronita". So I paid for a drink $4 more than I wanted. I also didn't drink any of it. I would have returned it to her but I never saw her again! Service:3 stars. Some are better than others and they carry the rest of the place! But it's so weird, if someone gets more than 2 tables they lose it! They start sloshing around salsa jars, never bringing silverware, I swear I never got water when I asked twice. It's so sad. This is NOT a chain (as stated in a previous review). I was told about this place the first night I moved to Atwater. The girl who recommended it thought it was a chain also (there are restaurants by the same name in Merced & Modesto) but said the food was better in Turlock. However, the first time I visited I inquired about this and was emphatically told "no" - the one in Turlock is the only one owned by this family. I have tried many items - the sopes are very good (I usually have pork); the chili rellenos are great! I like the tacos and enchiladas; you have a choice of red or green sauce and I have the red on the relleno and green on the enchilada. There carnitas and guacamole fell short and I don't think I will try them again here. However, there are plenty of choices on the menu and most have been pretty tasty. read more
