    Spicy watermelon Agua Fresca
    Hehica E.

I was searching Yelp for a Mexican restaurant for our 21st wedding anniversary dinner, and La Popular came up with excellent reviews. We were nearby, so my husband and I decided to give them a try! We went for dinner on a Thursday evening, arriving around 6pm. Parking is not the best. Your options are the free parking structure north of the train tracks, about a 2-3 minute walk, or paid parking near the restaurant. The paid parking was around $14, which was pretty pricey. To be fair, the Redlands Public Market is right across from La Popular, and by the time we left, the parking lot was packed. The ambiance at La Popular was really nice. There was plenty of lighting and greenery that made it feel calm and inviting. We sat across from the bar with a view of the Metrolink tracks, and there were plenty of TVs showing news and sports. They also have a disco ball in honor of their first location in Mexico City, which turns into a nightclub in the evening. Our server, Paige P, shared some of the restaurant's history with us, which was a nice touch. We just missed Thirsty Thursday, their happy hour, which ends at 6pm. Paige offered to put an order in for us, which was very generous but we decided not to. It was our first visit and we didn't want her to rush an order for us. I ordered the spicy watermelon agua fresca. I am NOT a spicy-tolerant eater, so our server, Paige, requested a mild version for me. It was delicious and tasted very fresh, with Tajín around the rim. I would definitely order it again. The food came out beautifully plated and picture-ready--which, of course, meant I took plenty of pictures. I ordered the 3-combo plate, where you can choose any three tacos or enchiladas. I chose a chicken Suiza enchilada and two tacos: one birria and one street corn. It also came with rice, beans, and consommé. Overall, the food hit the spot. The chicken in the Suiza enchilada was a little dry for my liking, but I enjoyed everything else. The beans had a little kick to them, but nothing too spicy for my very low spice tolerance. My husband ordered the chicken fajitas with corn tortillas. His plate did not come with rice and beans and only came with two street-size corn tortillas, which was a little surprising. And then came dessert. THE BUTTER CAKE. The butter cake was served warm and topped with vanilla ice cream, strawberries, and passion fruit custard. I died and went to heaven. It was SO good and easily one of my favorite parts of the meal. Overall, we had a great first experience at La Popular and a nice dinner celebrating our 21st anniversary. Good food, a fun atmosphere, beautiful presentation, and Paige, who took the time to tell us a little about the restaurant. And seriously...get the butter cake.

Wonderful experience! From the moment we arrived, the staff was welcoming and attentive, and the ambiance made me feel like I was on vacation in a beach town on the coast of Mexico. Cocktails were well crafted. My wife enjoyed their "Mercado cocktail," which is a rotating selection, and the Forbidden Mule. I enjoyed a whiskey sour, and after trying my wife's Mule, the Mule was the clear winner. The food was delicious! For appetizers, we shared some ceviche, guacamole, and queso fundido with chorizo all options were shareable and enjoyable. For entrees, we had the corn salad, which was innovative and packed with flavor! I chose the trio plate. I selected two enchiladas, one chicken and one shrimp, the sauce was well balanced and delicious. My third option was the mahi ahi taco. Although flavorful, the fish portion was tiny, and most of the taco was filled with the cabbage mix. For dessert, we had the butter cake, which was beautifully presented but a bit dry for my taste. Overall, we had a great dining experience and will definitely return! Shoutout to Alexis and Lolli for their hospitality and for making it a fantastic first visit!

Enjoying our anniversary dinner. But first...drinks.

Twelve years of marriage apparently tastes like beef, ribeye tacos, and a dangerously good margarita. Jordan and I came to La Popular for our 12th anniversary, and the second we walked in, I was into it. The whole place has this sexy, modern energy with gorgeous decor, a lively buzz, perfect for a local date night. Even the waiters smelled amazing. Is that a weird thing to notice? Probably. But someone back there was wearing some fantastic cologne and I would like it entered into the official Yelp record. We started with a Watermelon Hibiscus Margarita for me and the LP Margarita for Jordan, and sweet Jesus, these people are not making decorative cocktails. They were STRONG. Beautifully balanced, dangerously smooth, super tasty. Then came my Carne Asada, rich and tender and saucy in all the right places. The meat practically surrendered under my fork. Even the beans and rice on the side were divine! Jordan ordered three Ribeye Tacos and proceeded to absolutely demolish them. There was no thoughtful discussion. No sharing. Just man, taco, silence. I believe that is the highest compliment he can give. And nothing disappointed us. NOTHING. We actually came back a few weekends later for brunch, sat at the bar, had another stellar experience...some outstanding huevos rancheros and breakfast tacos... and I forgot to take A SINGLE PHOTO. Which, in 2026, may be the greatest proof that I was having a really good time. La Popular got us twice. And there will absolutely be a third.

Great Mexico-City inspired restaurant in Downtown Redlands. Beautifully decorated with lively music throughout! SERVICE: Very friendly from the entry to our table. Our server was nice and attentive even though the place was packed. FOOD: So far every dish has been superb!! We tried a few things (as you can see from the pics) our favs so far? The short rib enchilada and the birria burrito. If you haven't tried La Popular yet you are missing out! Great date night place!!

    Tacos and margaritas!

Tried new place in Redlands for taco Tuesday. Great service by Sarah who was super attentive. We sat on the patio and had the rib eye, carnitas, chicken and octopus tacos. All were excellent with generous toppings. Happy hour margaritas were spot on! We shall return

I am so pleasantly surprised! I went in thinking it may be another overpriced Mexican restaurant in the Redlands area, but I would highly recommend as a fun downtown spot. My friend and I arrived around 12:30 on a Sunday and was given a 20-25 min wait. When it got to 40 mins, we went inside to check on the status of our table and then were immediately seated. (This is where they lost a star. Hosts have to be more accurate with wait times.) After seating though, our experience was great. Drinks are original and well balanced. Food is flavorful and well portioned for the price. Brunch menu is fairly extensive. Lots of options. I'm definitely excited to return for their lunch specials/dinner menu. And I love that they're already doing special events. Great to get connected to your community.

Great new restaurant in Redlands (8/7/26)! Large drink list and experienced bartenders making strong delicious drinks and good music make it a great vibe for HH, brunch or dinner. The queso fundido with chorizo is one of the best I've ever had. Make sure to not skip the chips and salsa they were so good! We also had the rib eye tacos, shrimp enchiladas and carne asada plate, everything was so delicious we scraped our plates

Honestly starting off i'd give the restaurant a 2 stars limited table options. Mediocre flavors, there wasn't a single special thing that made this restaurant surprising to me to be quite honest. to sell latin food i'd suggest studying latin food a little more closely. Our sever however I didn't get there name! with the curly hair, tall slender she was nicest and so attentive.

They have a nice outdoor patio. It was a hot day so the misters really helped .

My daughter picked this restaurant for four family members to celebrate their birthdays. It opened 2 months ago. It's beautiful, nice bar, dining area inside and a great patio outside with misters. I didn't expect great service because they are so new. They did have a lot of servers. They did a good job with being new and every table was taken. We went on a Saturday night and there was a singer, he was good. It does get loud inside, having a table of 6 or more can be hard to hear people talk. The food was good, I felt they had a good selection.

Love it here. We have only eaten here for breakfast. The 2 times we came for dinner it was packed. But the breakers food has been wonderfully delicious. The service has also been very good. I love love the vibes and the ambiance of the place. My new favorite

    Ceviche
    Valerie S.

I am giving this restaurant 4 stars because the amazing server we had. She was very nice, helpful with the menu and fast. I am so sad I did not get her name. The ambiance was nice as well. For the food we had ceviche, a Birria quesadilla, and the flan. My favorite was probably the flan. The birria wasn't bad but I wouldn't order or recommend it. The meat itself was good but it came with what tasted like canned enchilada sauce. I've never had it like that the flavor was not what I was expecting. The ceviche was good just wish there was some tapatio or that it came a little spicy. If I come back It will probably just be for some drinks at the bar.

Tinga taco, short rib taco and short rib enchiladas w Side Half Rice & Beans

Really wanted to love this place but the food is not seasoned well enough for me. Decor? Beautiful. Service? Great! Food? Meh. In the multiple trips we have made there we've tried different things and each time we felt like the entrees could have been more flavorful. The aguas are delicious as is the guacamole and salsa flight. Even the beans and rice! But the tacos and enchiladas are a no for me.

Golazo Tropical Margarita, presentation is everything.
    Veronica C.

This is exactly the kind of restaurant our area has been missing! From the moment you walk in, you can tell a lot of thought went into the design. The décor is fresh, modern, and inviting with fun details like tropical wallpaper, natural textures, and even a disco ball that gives the space so much personality. It's a beautiful place to enjoy a meal. I've been back several times now, and the service has been consistently friendly and attentive. As for the food, I highly recommend the tacos! I've tried the tinga, corn, and grilled shrimp tacos, and the corn and grilled shrimp are definitely my favorites. I also stopped by for brunch and had the breakfast burrito, which was absolutely delicious. For drinks, I sampled the Spirit-Free Paloma and the Sonora Sunrise Spritz. The Spritz was my favorite, light, refreshing, and full of flavor. I also tried the Golazo Tropical Margarita. It was a little sweeter than I usually prefer, but if you enjoy guava, you'll probably love it since that flavor really shines through. One more bonus: parking is incredibly convenient. There's a nearby parking structure with plenty of spaces, making it easy to stop in without worrying about finding parking. Overall, this is a fantastic addition to the area. Great atmosphere, excellent service, delicious food, and I'll definitely keep coming back!

It's a perfect place for a date or a night out with friends or family. The focal point of the main dining room is the bar, which faces the restaurant's entrance. Meticulously designed with a nostalgic feel, the bar features blonde wood shelves holding hundreds of vinyl records, carefully curated design objects, and a DJ booth neatly tucked into a corner next to the bar. The beer taps are elegantly minimalist, and every detail in the bar--for example, the old-fashioned glass syrup bottles--seems planned to give a nod to history (specifically the late 19th century, when Redlands was founded). The main dining room offers plenty of comfortable seating choices, including a long bar along the center of the room. The patio is spacious and well kept. All of the spaces inside and out have music piped in from the bar. There are two restrooms just off the patio, and these are well-maintained. On busy nights, patrons can enjoy a drink in a standing bar area just off the patio. I love that the Overland provides a choice of setting depending on the kind of night you're planning. A romantic date? Get a reservation to sit inside, and it feels intimate. Just hanging out? The bar is fun as the mixologists make excellent drinks and friendly conversation. Sitting at the bar after 7 PM, you can watch the DJs spin the platters. If you have a larger group or just like to eat alfresco, the patio is perfect. The menu offers a really nice variety of drinks, including the pricier craft cocktails, more classic, moderately priced beverages, nonalcoholic drinks, and all sorts of beer and wine. The food menu is solid, with plenty of appetizers, salads, entrées, and a dessert. The real star is the tacos! These are very moderately priced at seven dollars apiece, and all three varieties are delicious! There is a potato taco, a beef taco, and pork chili Verde taco. I highly recommend these! The green salsa they provide is extremely mild, but they do have a variety of hot sauces on hand. It's worth mentioning that even a humble plate of tacos is served on nice ceramic dishes, along with good flatware and napkins. The espresso martini cheesecake is creamy and delicious, and the portion is really generous. The staff seem to enjoy working at the Overland. The servers work hard to make sure your order is to your liking, and food comes out pretty fast. There's a good sense of teamwork among them. The staff is also accommodating about seating or any special requests. We've been there on a busy Friday night, and on a Sunday evening and late night. The Overland is always at least moderately busy, so reservations are strongly recommended. The city of Redlands should be very proud of this establishment. Go and have fun!

We seated ourselves at our favorite raised table in the corner on the far side of the bar. My husband and I stuck to traditional cocktails, and old fashioned and a Negroni. Our friends chose signature cocktails: the Turbo Granny and the Electric Feel. Now the Electric Feel was not just a drink, it was an experience. Our server explained to our friend that he should sip a little of the drink, then chew the Szechuan buzz bud for about 15 seconds, letting it coat his whole tongue, then enjoy the rest of the drink which would taste different afterwards. Our friend went through all those steps and said it was incredible, like all the flavors were enhanced along with different sensations in his mouth, kind of numb and tingly. His wife was not satisfied with his description of the experience, so she bought a Szechuan buzz bud for $2 and she said it was kind of like pop rocks. These buzz bud looks just like a little flower bud like the end of a dandelion once the seeds are blown away. It comes from a plant. Totally fascinating! We enjoyed our one cocktail each here and just had great conversation. It was a fun night because of the company, and also because we had a little adventure going to two amazing places!

We decided on weekend brunch, especially since there were endless mimosas. Our kids have a recollection of being down the class umbrella alleyway, so they were amazed when they saw it. A short while later, we were in front of the restaurant and were quickly seated by the staff. They didn't ask if we preferred outdoor or indoor seating, but we were seated inside right next to the kitchen. We heard that indoor seating was better for service anyway. The interior of the restaurant was "very fancy," and my daughter thought we were in a date spot. We knew we wanted French fries and opted for the garlic Parmesan fries. At first, the kids were weirded out by the arugula, but my daughter ended up enjoying it, noting the bitter and salty notes. My son devoured the entire plate (not the arugula) and asked for another round. We also ordered the lemon ricotta French toast, made from Brioche bread, lemon blackberry butter, whipped lemon ricotta cream, blackberries, mint, and maple syrup. They perfected the crispy exterior, which contrasted well with the fluffy bread. My wife ordered the breakfast pizza--a focaccia pizza topped with marinara, ham, spinach, fresh tomato, red onion, a sunny-side-up egg, and herb-infused maple syrup. This was really delicious with the tart, fresh tomatoes, the salty ham, and the sweet maple syrup. I ended up eating the sunny-side egg by itself, so we didn't get to try the pizza with the egg. Lastly, I ordered the steak and eggs, but it was sadly a small portion. I ordered it medium rare, and it came out medium. The seasoning was a bit strange and would have been better with simple salt, pepper, and garlic. The mimomas really made my wife happy. She started feeling it pretty quickly. She chose the pineapple juice while I got the traditional orange. Not sure if the alcohol made the food better or the other way around. I was brought to reality when I saw the expensive bill, though.

Unfortunately, the experience didn't live up to the hype. Service was the main issue. The bartenders seemed inexperienced, and our server wasn't familiar with the drinks, often needing to check with someone else. It took about 20 minutes to receive our first round. Our reservation was at 10:30, we were seated until 10:40, and the place closes at midnight so timing already felt tight. Because of the wait, we asked to order two drinks at once for the next round, but were told it's limited to one at a time. That would be understandable if service were faster, but it took another 20 minutes to get the second drink. We were also told drinks from the regular menu take longer, so I tried one from the specialty menu...still a 20-minute wait. It was a frustrating experience. That said, the space itself is smaller and more intimate, which could make it a nice date spot. I do think this place has potential, and I'd consider giving it another chance, hopefully with smoother service next time. Oh Beignets were amazing!! Yummy little donuts!

When we walked into this speakeasy, behind a movable shelf, I was greatly disappointed by the size of this place. It literally was the size of a walk in closet. Probably a fifth of the size of the one in Rancho. The room was so small and cramped. We sat at the round tables which was small for 2 people, and they were spaced so close to each other. Another couple sat next to us and we could here their entire conversation. The space is just so cramped. Maybe 6 round tables with barely a foot apart. Then the bar top basically when someone is sitting there, theres less then a foot of space to go inbetween. The decor is beautiful. I did enjoy the library theme. Service here is a disappointment. There was inly 2 groups (including ourselves) when we arrived and service was excessively slow. On their featured cocktails which was the same as the one in Rancho (6 drinks?), they were already out of the first 2. And mind you, they've only been open for 2 hours. We asked them to prepare unique off the menu drinks. They basically gave us drinks from the main restaurant menu. Rum for the hills and an old fashion. The bartender at the Rancho location is so much better and nicer and way more creative. Able to create unique individual drinks off the top of his head. Not here though. She asked us what we were ordering at least times. And she still got our orders (food) wrong. The glass was sticky from the sugars. We ordered no grilled onions on the burger and it came with grilled onions. She was so unsure of what they carried (alcohol wise) that she had to go ask the other guy on multiple occasions. When the bill came, we didnt get a pen to sign it with. So we went to the bar area. The guy was a total A-hole. He was like what do you want? Woah guy. We're trying to give you more of our hard earned money via tip and sign this check so we can get the heck out of here. Like chill bro. We should be there ones angry with how bad the evening went. Not you. There were multiple flies flying around our table and food. A large fly, and then a small gnat around our drink. It was gross. Overall, it was a terrible experience here. There was mystique (I give you that, love the books). But nothing high end or exclusive about it. Usage of the space and their knowledge of the drinks reminds me of a run down dive bar. They need the bartender from Rancho to come here and revamp everything about this place. The only good thing here is that we were able to order burgers (full menu availability) in this speakeasy as suppose to the one in Victoria Gardens. But besides that, I am 100% not coming back. It just isnt worth it.

I wish I'd gotten his name The music was good but it was a little too loud I couldn't hear the other people at my table, and they are not quiet ladies. The walk to the bathroom was an experience though. It felt like you were entering catacombs so weird. Otherwise everyone working there was nice, all 3 of us love our food, the starter portions were more than enough for one person to have as an entree. Sharing between 2 people would be a good portion but idk the size of entrees because we only got starters. Seemed nice and clean too Enjoyed our time here, we will be back

Our waitress has on break, but this was communicated well and rhe other staff stepped in until she returned. We got a mix of drinks and food and loved every sip and bite. I will say the serving sizes are not what I'm used to for a Mexican restaurant but not tiny, around 2 to 3 tacos per plate. I got the birra tacos and I do wish they would have had a side but it wasn't a huge issue. Now the music for the elephant in the room. It was very loud in the small space. I would say club level, which is a lot for a dining experience. It didn't take away too much, just made talking hard. Another summer specific thing to point out, it is not the standard California A/c situation. We were in not way dying of heat, but it was warm. The day's temperature was around 102° so that of course was taken into account. If you have a group of friends that need some yummy food, this is your spot. Just maybe not a 1st date location, OR the perfect 1st date place

This was my mom's first time back since the remodel, and we were both blown away by how beautiful the restaurant looks. The atmosphere is incredible, it feels classy, welcoming, and like such a great place to spend time with family & friends. I also have to say, I cannot wait to plan a party in the back room! It looks like such a beautiful space for an event. Thank you to Billy and the entire Madri team for such a great lunch. We'll definitely be back! Next time we will bring my Dad.

The quality of food was fresh, prepared just right, and the service was fast and welcoming. It's in the nice down town Redlands area so never too busy or loud, in the small city. Our server, Aubrey, was also AWESOME so definitly give her a raise lol. My buddies and I were wanting some steaks and drinks after work, and we were not disappointed. 100% will be back. The only thing to be weary of is if you get outdoor seating. Many folks downtown tend to smoke marijuana so sometimes the smell will make its way into the patio area.

Definitely a fun spot for a fancy cocktail--or, in my case, a mocktail. I ordered the Hibiscus Cooler and LOVED it. The food was more of a mixed bag. I ordered the Poblano Burger, and the deep-fried poblano was SO good. Unfortunately, I ordered the patty medium and it came out overcooked. The fries were also a little undercooked, and the burger could have used more sauce. Tasty overall, just not quite hitting the mark. Then came dessert... and this is where the experience really went downhill. I ordered the crème brûlée because I've had it elsewhere and had been craving it. While waiting, I stepped away to use the restroom. When I came back, my entire table--including my drinks--had been cleared. I had literally just ordered dessert and never indicated I was finished. The server seemed confused when I questioned it, which made the whole thing even more awkward. And unfortunately, the crème brûlée itself was also a miss. The sugar topping was torched too long and had a noticeably bitter, burnt flavor. The server (and possibly a manager) apologized, and I was given $2 off the drink, which I appreciated. Between the okay food and the especially strange service and lack of communication the experience left me disappointed. The atmosphere is definitely the highlight, but for me, the service experience was enough to say I probably won't be back anytime soon.

I hope one day to see them on the stage so I can say, "I got to see them when they were small fries." The Vault hosts a lot of events, including musical open mic nights. I still prefer Writers Block's open mic night (the first Wednesday of every month). I am shocked that the event is free, with how talented the poets are. I have bought several books from one of the local poets (shout out to Winry Hagerty!!) who sells her work at the poetry event. The last time I went there were stickers from an artist, some leather works, books by poets for sale. The atmosphere at The Vault during Open Mic Night is vibrant and supportive. The audience is engaged and respectful, providing an encouraging environment for the performers to shine. It's worth noting that this event is not only entertaining but also affordable. It's free.
