I'm only giving three stars because the food was decent and priced accordingly. I came in for a late lunch when they were dead and had the worst service. The three servers were more wrapped up in watching their soap operas that were blaring on the two TVs than taking my order or refilling my beverage. We've been driving by the Leander location for some time and tonight was the night to try it out. Read other Yelp reviews and went in with an open mind. It's about 20% lower in cost than other Mexican restaurants so that was good for starters. Portion sizes were excellent. I had the Tex-Mex combo platter which was 2 beef enchiladas and two soft beef tacos with rice and beans for only $7.50. Wife has fajitas for $9.99. We had extra left over for another meal:) Service was great. The manger even came over to say hello and ask how it tasted. You don't see that too often. Will be coming back again soon. My wife and I decided to give this little place a try. We soon discovered that the entrance is actually on the side of the building after we walked up to the patio and entered through the double doors. I personally am a taco fan, My wife likes the enchiladas with a fried egg on top. Normally I'll order a few tacos expecting them to come in the little tortillas. And at 1.60 each I really didn't expect much more then that. I was wrong. The tacos were full of meat and the tortillas were heated on the skillet or whatever they use. Not to mention they used the full sized flour tortillas. I got the Chicken Fajita, Beef Fajita, and Barbacoa. I've also tried the Pierna as well. All are really good. Their quacamole was outstanding and we both got a large Margareta which was good but nothing outstanding there. My wife enjoyed her enchiladas and tried the tacos the second time around. I'm not a huge fan of self seating but you get used to it going to a lot of taquerias. The wait staff was attentive although we were there kind of late and the place was quite empty. Only thing I would like to see on the menu, which I have yet to really find in Austin are Shrimp Tacos. Moving from Houston, shrimp tacos could be found easily and I miss them. I should also mention the price is really hard to beat. I was actually surprised when we got the bill. Two people eating with two Margaritas, order of guacamole, 4 Tacos, Enchilada plate with fried Egg was around $26 The second time we went in. I got 3 Tacos and my wife got 2. Great food, great staff, and super great prices! I love the margaritas here & my friends like the Mexican martinis. Whenever we leave, whether it is breakfast, lunch, happy hour, or dinner--we can never get over how inexpensive our bill is. Particular favorites: grilled shrimp is delicious and you can get it super spicy or not. The beef fajitas are awesome--so are the beef fajita quesadillas. Some people who I have dined with order the mini-tacos pastor every single time. The only reason I didn't give this restaurant 5 stars is that I don't care for the guacamole. First let me say, if you are from California and move to Texas please do not compare what you get in California to TexMex. That is just wrong. Not saying you don't have an opinion but TexMex is not CaliMex food. Had both and they are not supposed to be the same. Just like Arizona and New Mexico Mexican food is not similar to either. Ok, now onto the reivew. As many, many other folks have said the food is pretty dog gone good. I have never had anything bad from here. From tortas to soup to fajitas to enchiladas, it has all been good. AND just like many others have said, the service is very very hit or miss. If you get a great server it will be very rare. We have been going here since it was in its old location on 183 (where Maria's is now) and even there they had the same issues with service. This is not to say, don't go here. I am not saying that at all. Just be willing to be patient and stay on top of your server. Other than this one issue, I would be giving this specific location 5 stars! read more

I was really impressed with the salsa here! Hot stuff, just the way I like it! I had the special on the door which was 4 little tacos (carnitas) with rice and beans. I could only eat two of the tacos and had to take the rest home. I loved them, but the salsa was so good, I filled up quickly on that and the chips (which were freshly made). The menu was impressive and the prices are unbeatable. Service was skimpy, but I got my drink and meal and didn't really need anything else, so no complaints. Aside from the wonderful tastes, the second best part is they bring plentiful portions, you will never leave hungry for sure, and the price beats anyone, as Deborah stated in a previous post, they are extremely reasonable $4.99 - $7.99 I had 2 huge meals, 2 beers and a tea on my tab, 24 bucks, can't beat that at all. I love Mexican food restaurants that carry horchata, which is a sweet rice drink found primarily in authentic restaurants. Their tortilla soup is the best I've had and I get it every time. When family visits we all go here and are always happy. Friendly staff. read more

The service was good and the chips and salsa were really the highlight of our dinner. We each had a version of the Burrito La Tapatia and neither were very tasty. It wasn't that they were bad, they just weren't good. The burritos are large, bigger than they needed to be, but even then we felt like we really didn't get much in the way of flavor. The ceiling in La Tapatia looks to be under construction - but it doesn't seem like it is actively being fixed - a gnader overhead and you are looking at plastic sheeting that is full of gaps and holes holdind up insulation. If I could give this place a 0 I would. The receptionist had no idea what she was doing, I called at 11:08 to make a pickup order, and she told me to hold I said okay. I was left on hold for exactly 40 minutes. I decided to just show hope hoping they were just busy. But they came up with excuses saying the phone didn't work when it was ringing right in front of me multiple times. I asked for managers and they left me up front for about 15 minutes just to tell me they weren't there. They also ended up blocking my number for no reason so I will never go back! read more

My family and I ate here on a Thursday night, around seven pm. The place was about 40% full. We self seated. Service was slow to start, looked like there was only one server and one bus boy. Once we did get a server things went pretty quickly. The food was surprisingly good with perfect portion size. The food seemed freshly prepared which is rare for this genre of food. After we got out meal service slide downhill again and we were never really visited after that. No hot sauce was offered and we had to ask for extra forks/knives for the kids. The price was perfect and we made it out much cheaper than expected. I would recommend highly since this looks like a family run business and not some huge horrible chain that just boils its frozen chicken or keeps their re fried beans cooking all day. Service is horrible. Truly horrible. We placed drink orders- two waters and a soda. 15 minutes later they arrive. Then we order food- there were three of us at the table. Definitely nicer location than the old one. Staff is always friendly. If they're busy table service gets usually neglected a little but to me that's a common issue. Food is always excellent. We try to order different dishes from time to time, but love out go-to Enchiladas verdes & combo plate. Breakfast tacos, migas and menudo have been life savers in the mornings more than once. This is my go to neighborhood Place for a quick, cheap, and good quality Mexican fix. Standard fare for Mexican dishes, everything is good, if you want to think outside the box try one of the various soups. Complete Review ----First off with chips and salsa, the chips is good the salsa could be better by making it hotter and add more cilantro and it would be perfect. I ordered the Thursday special the Fajita Plancha with mix beef and chicken and all the usual mexican condiments (rice, guacamole, sour cream, lettuce and fried beans) it was good for $6.99 My husband ordered La Tapatia Combo for $7.49 with chicken and pork mix with all the condiment he has no complain. We also added pico de gallo and there I do my thumbs down its my favorite thing and they just did it like no other mexican restaurant I tried so far. It doesn't have cilantro in it which makes the pico de gallo taste bland. They have a big menu which is very usual to mexican or tex-mix places. The service is very good, the staff is neat and tidy and friendly as well. The place is decent and clean. They have an indoor and outdoor dining and a bar. The parking lot is huge. It is not loud and busy which makes the service fast and the price is competitive. I like that they incorporate mexican music on the background which adds to the vibe. They have quite lot of gumball machine so your kids might enjoy it. Lunch with ex-husband and his girlfriend. One of the few restaurants out that far. Friendly service, but never refilled my tea. Extensive menu. No lunch specials (surprising). It is serviceable Tex-Mex. My combo plate was huge. Taco, chalupa, enchilada, rice, beans. The cheese enchilada was the cheese enchilada you've had most places. Their ground meat has an odd flavor to me. Other orders at our table were one of the grilled chicken breast dishes, which was served with French fries (odd) and Mini Tacos al pastor. Their Al Pastor is unusual --- tiny bits of meat fried crispy. Again, I thought the flavoring was a little strange, though not bad. The star, however? The GREEN SALSA! It is as good as the Dona sauce at TacoDeli, and you know how good that is. When asked the ingredients, the waitress said jalapenos and guacamole. I think she meant avocado. At a 6 top, one would expect all of the food to come out at a reasonably similar time, not the case at La Tapatia. 2 of the 6 had to wait an extra 10 minutes, while everyone else had their food. The trinity: Good Food, Good Service, Good Price! I'm sold! As other reviewers have noted, the portions are very generous and the prices are extremely reasonable. Two people can dine for under $25 including 20% tip for the lovely service you will receive. The chips are light and fresh and the salsa is one if my favorites. Slightly spicier than most local restaurants but not uncomfortably hot. Just right! The menu is large enough to find all that you need and features an ala carte section in case you want only a taco or two. We tried a combo plate, extra taco, and a burrito that turned out to be the size of a football. ALL delicious. Tender, marinated beef, fresh well seasoned chicken, great beans and rice. Spoke with the manager on the way out and he mentioned that his family owns Mariachis de Jalisco in Georgetown, another of our favorites. So if you enjoy the food at Mariachis you will love it here, too. Come for happy hour (3-7pm M-F) and enjoy $3 margaritas. I'll be trying one of those next! This is my family's go-to breakfast spot. The service is extremely efficient and friendly. I've yet to have a bad meal here. Whenever we have friends and family from out of town, this is one of the first places we take them. The food is fresh and tastes like honest home cooking. The decor is simple, but most importantly, the restaurant is clean, which is something that makes or breaks a restaurant for me. My favorites are the migas, veggie burrito, and Chile relleno. This place is not fancy. Not by a damned sight. However, if you know anything about Tex-Mex you know that most of the best stuff is made in small, family run places that have more personality than polish. Thankfully, Tapatia falls into this category. While not necessarily a small family run place, I believe it's a chain, it has that feel to it. Nothing flashy or even pretty for that matter, but I'm there to eat, not look at the walls. Let's be honest, if you are hung up on decor that says more about the horribly boring company you keep. I tend more to focus on the person I'm with rather than the stuff on the walls. However, if you are an outcast with no friends or family to eat with, and require some sort of diversion from what your life has become in the form of ostentatious decorations... then perhaps you should reevaluate your life choices rather than cast aspersions (if you are a recent widow/widower, I do apologize for being brusk). We tried the new location today. The place looked nice & the food was totally worth getting out of the car for lunch. If you're one of the recent California immigrants and you miss Carne Asada Fries & rolled tacos like we do, you should check this place out. We just asked them to make the Nachos with fries instead of chips, It took a little bit of explaining, but in the end it was worth it & they were amazing! I didn't want to share.
