Food is ok. I only go here when I take that road. You have two choices, pick up and eat whatever they decide to pack up for you at home or dine in and put up with horrible service. If you decide to put up with a bad server you can at least have the choice to send your food back so they can make it how you want it. I added a photo so you can see portions. I asked if my torta had avocado and she said yes. Two thin strips is a portion to them. Three different occasions I have asked for avocado and two of the times they added a thin strip and another time they just didn't put any at all. The only reason they continue to get business is because there are no other Mexican restaurants in the area that's more "authentic" and less Tex-Mex. just don't expect much. read more

Great food but make sure you hang on to your possessions. I went to the restaurant with a friend and left my keys on the table. He was driving so I didn't think about them until 30 minutes later. I called twice inquiring about them, both times being told no keys were found or turned in. I decided to check for myself and after insisting my keys were in the restaurant, the cashier pulled the keys from out a drawer behind the front desk! Small place, nothing fancy. Great food - best nopalitos I've ever had. Prices are very good - whole family can eat for about $25. Wait service can be a little slow some times, everytime I've been in I've seen the same two people serving, so maybe it's a family affair. Kitchen is fast with the orders. After a long debate with my sisters and I we still haven't come to the conclusion if the chicken fajita as we ordered were actually chicken or if it may have been fish. And even if it was chicken, it was freezer burnt. The service was very neglected and we didn't see our waiter but twice, and then had to ask for our check. The unclean atmosphere and seat I had to wipe off did not serve for a pleasurable experience. I eat breakfast here often. I have occasionally eaten something other than breakfast food and that was pretty good too! I enjoy the Migas though they're not all that spicy. Service is good except on Thursdays. The usual crew is off on Thursdays. Salsa is good, breakfast tacos are awesome (they have nopales!), and they're "kids plates" are big enough for adults. I am giving this restaurant 5 stars based on the food quality in the price. I have read some reviews here and hurt people complaining of the ceiling and the decor and all I can say is if you want a nice ambience was better decor and efficient for the service you should go to Eddie V's and spend a hundred person and you can have pretty things to look at, but if you like awesome I'll send text Mexico and food and incredible price then this place is for you. The enchiladas rancheras are phenomenal, The Tortoise and fajitas are great and my son had a burrito which was to die for we also had an appetizer and we all three have beverages as well and even with all of that are total bill was $25 which if you ask me is cheaper than Jardine Del Rey next door which I do love by the way but I must say if you're just in for a cheap lunch or a nice affordable delicious dinner then la Tapatia is the place to be read more

We often come on Tuesdays because they have an amazing Fajiita special. I can say that their portions are always huge (feeds at least 3 people) and their food is always very good. I was considering giving them a 5-star rating based on their food and their green salsa (which is amazing) but I decided to go with a 4 star because their service needs to be a little better (it's good - just not great) and their restaurant needs a few repairs. For example, the bench seats are worn out. All in all, I really like this place and I will keep going back for their fajiita special. read more

This is my favorite restaurant in Leander and perhaps anywhere, because I love Tex-Mex and this is the best Tex-Mex place I know. The salsa is fresh, spicy, a little chunky and slightly different every time, depending who made it I guess. I love their shrimp cocktail, it is full of fresh cilantro, onions and peppers. My favorite dish is the 'burrito especial' with Chicken Fajita. It is huge, stuffed with fresh lettuce, onions, avocado, tomatoes, bursting with flavor. We've been going to the Leander location for years, almost always for breakfast. With one or two rare exceptions, the service has been fast and friendly. Since they moved to the location near HEB, the food quality has improved by a large margin. It was good before, but now it's excellent. Went in around 9 on a Tuesday, ordered soft drinks and food no problem. Prices looked good all around. I ordered the enchiladas tapatias and my boyfriend ordered carne guisada. The food was decent, worth the money for sure. If you're more used to something downtown like Trudys or Chuys, expect a little less from here. Service was rather lacking, unfortunately. We had to wait an excessive amount of time for our check, while the restaurant was empty and we had eyes on the waitress talking to a coworker at the bar the entire time. Overall, it was sufficiently cheap, clean, and quick and I would go again if I didn't want to drive to Cedar Park. We eat here once a week and find this to be the best restaurant in Leander. This is because the food is good--we have never had a bad meal and we have tried most of the menu, the service is good--there is very little turnover in the wait staff and they are friendly, attentive and know what they are doing, the food is authentic except that the quality is better than what you find in Mexico, the margarita is the best I've had anywhere, and the prices are low. Some of my favorite items are the tostada with octopus and shrimp, the veggie quesadilla, and the Tampiqueña--skirt steak. They have just moved to the HEB shopping center--haven't eaten there yet but it looks nicer than the old location and the parking lot won't fill up anymore. Looking at the other reviews, there seems to be some confusion about the Leander La Tapatia and the Cedar Park La Tapatia which is just a couple of miles down Hwy 183 and is getting some bad reviews but is not the same place. We've lived in Leander for 16 years, and we've been to the many incarnations of this restaurant. We've always enjoyed the food...as takeout, but dining in has always been a problem. We were hoping against hope that their new location would improve the service, but sadly we were wrong. I took my aunt and uncle there last Sunday right after church. We were seated promptly, and our drinks were given to us quickly. That's where the love story ended. We put our order in at a quarter to eleven, and by 11:20, we had run out of drinks and conversation. I found our waitress easily, because she was sorting dirty dishes by the kitchen entrance. I asked her when our order would be ready, and after consulting with the kitchen, she came back to tell me 3-5 minutes. Cool, right? 15 minutes later, my uncle was through waiting, and went to speak to a different waitress who also told him 5 minutes. He then told her to go ahead and cancel our order, and we went down the street to Cherry Creek Catfish, where we were able to eat within 15 minutes of being seated. read more

We have been going to this place for several years and have always loved the food.The Barbacoa is the best. We finally got to go to their new location in The HEB shopping center area at 183 and 2243 last night and STILL love it...maybe more. The food was as delicious as always. The Margaritas were perfect. The staff recognizes us and always remembers to bring us the "green sauce" we love. The new location has more parking now, which was lacking in the former location. We had eaten at their 183 location in Leander a couple times in the past and were disappointed. The wait time was redo ills. Once we ordered breakfast tacos to go and they took 30 minutes. After they moved to the new location by HEB Plus, we thought we would give them another shot. We had breakfast and again the wait time was horrible. I was super excited when this location opened almost two years ago. However, in recent months the quality of food and service has drastically gone down. All the food had become super greasy and the servers don't refill your drink without asking out bring you a check at the end of your meal. They can be seen sitting at a table near the front chit chatting with each other instead of being up and taking care of their customers. This place is our goto for the best breakfast. The food is great, you want tacos? They got tacos. You want pancakes? They got pancakes. You want omelettes? They got those too! Now the first time we were there it was really busy, we waited a long time to get seated, we waited a long time to get drinks, we waited a long time for food. We didn't fret, we didn't whine, we waited pleasantly because if you are in a hurry in life you are going to be a grump. And observing some of the other tables and how absolutely rude the customers were to the staff I totally get why they seemed a bit discouraged. We got our food and it was delicious, we enjoyed it thoroughly and with manners because our parents raised us that way. And what was sad was that they were surprised after dealing with seriously rude patrons. After the first turbulent experience in a fairly new restaurant it has been nothing but pleasant every time we go, our 6 year old daughter loves the staff and frequently discusses jewelry and makeup and gives them hugs on the way in and on the way out, we don't even have to use a menu anymore, and they don't even have to ask what we want. My family and I are weekly regulars and experienced the worst experience a Mother could imagine with her baby. She was sitting in the chair outside and I looked away for one second and the next thing we knew she had fallen over. I rushed to her and saw her finger was bleeding and appeared to be hanging on by skin. We had just received our food also. In the split second we had, it was decided to rush to the hospital..my husband went inside and was hoping someone would help him, but nobody assisted so he left our card to cover the bill. Once we got home from the hospital I sent my husband back up there to get my card. When he got home he said they charged us the full bill, and he left a tip. I was SO disappointed that after what we experienced they showed no compassion. So I called to complain, knowing we go there almost weekly. Of course the manager was not available so I left my name. About 30 minutes later I received a call from Javier and I explained to him what had happened and how disappointed in how we were treated. He was so sorry what happened with our baby and hoped everything was ok that he said the next time our family came in our meal would be comped and he would let the girls know and leave a note up front. Well tonight was that night. We went with our family to celebrate that our daughter did not have to have surgery and her bones would fuse back together on their own. Well when we went to pay OF COURSE there is no record that Javier promised. I asked the lady to call Javier and ask him, she did and was laughing making jokes about what I was "insinuating" she said she remembered me and my daughter runs around and is crying all the time. She insisted that there was no proof of any of this happening. I showed her the X-Ray from today. I really didn't know I would be so embarrassed, I should have brought all my proof. I was so appalled of the lack of customer service and disrespect and to say I was lying about what I was told as a loyal customer. Laura said not to worry about it with her nasty smirk. At that point I wanted to know the amount of the bill to pay it. She kept laughing in such a disrespectful manner it was shocking to me. I paid for my meal, never to return.
