I had known about this famous deli for years, but somehow never had the chance to visit until now…read more We went around lunchtime on a Saturday, and there were only about three people ahead of us in line. They had an air-conditioning unit set up outside and even handed out cold water to people waiting in line. It was such a thoughtful touch and a great example of their customer service. We had a potato knish, matzo ball soup, and a pastrami sandwich combo. Everything was delicious. After trying the pastrami sandwich, I completely understand why it is so famous. The quality and balance of the rye bread, pastrami, coleslaw, and Russian dressing were just perfect. The service was also quick, efficient, and professional. You can really feel the quality and experience of a long-established deli. They also offer 90 minutes of free parking, which is a nice bonus.

The pastrami is so tender, juicy, and melty, the rye bread is perfectly soft on the inside and satisfyingly crispy on the outside, and the coleslaw and dressing are simple, yet perfect compliments to the meat and bread. This sandwich really is f****** incredible. It was absolutely worth the 40 minute drive. As others note, this is not the best or safest area of LA. But the restaurant itself is clean, classic, inviting, and nostalgic. Shoutout to our server Eve. She was so sweet, genuine, and knowledgeable. Excellent service. But back to the food. A 10/10 sandwich that lives up to the hype. The iconic pastrami sandwich is so iconic for a reason.

Order online and have some jump out of the car to pick up your order. There is no seating inside but maybe a chair or two outside. The neighborhood is a little rough around the edges so you may want to get that food to go. We tried three sandwiches and they were all huge. The crispy chicken caesar wrap is phenomenal and I am not one who usually orders this particular sandwich anywhere. It comes with a creamy sauce that I might have drank directly from the little cup. The wrap is packed full of chicken and it is refreshing and excellent. It doesn't look huge but trust me, the wrap is packed full and you will be plenty satisfied. The Antonia sandwich comes with turkey, cheese, avocado, tomato, and garlic aioli. It isn't all that unique a creation but for what it is, it is very fresh and very good. It came loaded with delicious turkey. The Martha sandwich (chicken salad, apples, fennel, argula, herbs, etc.) is on special right now. Personally, I am not a big chicken salad guy but you get a lot of it and the person in our party who ordered it liked it a lot. We also tried the arancini and they were excellent. You get three arancini balls and fantastic vodka sauce on the side. This is a winner. To be honest, practically the entire menu sounds great to me. They have quite a few locations and I feel like I will be trying them again soon.

My sandwich was very well portioned and absolutely delicious, some of the best pastrami I've ever had! Fries were good, Cole slaw was good, and the whole experience was great. Great, attentive service too. They were busy for a very good reason. Come here hungry! The portions are very generous.

So it seemed fitting to honor both of them and it satisfied my craving. The catered memorial looked great but it was difficult to make a proper plate. I always crave matzo ball soup. Luckily I had my fan to help cool off my soup. I did add a little salt and pepper. Other than that it was total comfort. $15 We shared a club sandwich and got French fries instead. All the condiments, Russian dressing, ranch come in prepackaged little containers. Ranch tasted fresh and homemade. I used a little of the Russian dressing. Is that a Brent's thing? $22 + $3 for French fries. I wanted a little sweet and got the blueberry cheesecake. That was the best cheesecake ever. Actual blueberries inside the cheesecake. So creamy and delicious. $11 Pickles are always my favorite. I got bagel chips with my matzo ball soup. I ordered corned beef and cabbage for my 99 year old mom. She said she didn't like the cabbage, no taste. She's 99 ‍ It's been a while since I was there. It feels the same. Booths and tables. Same decor. Our server Laura was super sweet and patient. Helpful in our decision making. Ricardo cracked me up because he brought a small soup container for my friend's cabbage soup. She was a little perturbed it was too small. Ricardo insisted it would fit and it did PERFECTLY.

If you're visiting the area, I highly recommend making a stop here. My biggest piece of advice is to go early because it gets incredibly busy by lunchtime--and for good reason! Keep in mind they are closed on Monday and Tuesday. While you can order online, I'll always choose to go inside so I can browse everything they have to offer. Their selection of fresh pasta salads is fantastic, and the desserts are always tempting. Whether you're craving lasagna, spaghetti and meatballs, a chicken Parmesan sandwich, or one of their many other Italian specialties, you really can't go wrong. Be sure to check out the wine section in the back left of the market. It's extensive and absolutely incredible! This is the kind of place that keeps people coming back year after year, and it's easy to see why. Being Italian American and growing up with an Italian mother who loved feeding everyone, this was one of our favorite places to visit together. Those memories make every trip here even more special. My personal favorite is the Godmother sandwich--hands down one of the best you'll ever have. It's packed with flavor, made with quality ingredients, and it's the sandwich I find myself craving every time I come back. One of the things I love most about this place is the atmosphere. It has an energy that immediately makes you think of family. Everyone is genuinely kind, welcoming, and happy to help, making you feel right at home the moment you walk through the door. It has that warm, old-school Italian family vibe that's becoming harder and harder to find, and it's a big part of what makes this place so special.
