Yelp friend Jo Y. has been checking in quite often at this place so since we were close by, decided to try it out. My husband loves Oyster Sauce Chicken with Cake Noodle and I love Beef Chow Fun with Black Bean Sauce so that's what I ordered. Both were very tasty...we would definitely order this again! I viewed pictures that people posted and the Beef Chow Fun-dry looked really good so I think I'll order it the next time. A friend mentioned that the Roast Pork and Char Siu is really good so will also order this too! Lesson #1: If my friend/neighbor @Paul C posts repeated visits to a place, and likes it, GO eat there! I think I may have mentioned something to the same effect in the past. Lagoon Chinese Restaurant is located in the airport area, and unfortunately is currently situated in a high construction area. This may or may not be to their benefit--I bet the construction crews have figured out how good their food is, and have given them good business. But it might not be as good for others trying to avoid the headaches. I've only been there a couple of times, but I feel like it's worth it. Located at the front of a small motel or apartment building (I'm not really sure which), Lagoon has a pretty unassuming front, but as soon as you go inside, you'll see that it's a bustling Chinese restaurant. Both times I've been there, they seem to do a much higher takeout business than eat-in, but they do have a clean, brightly lit dining room, too. There are high ceilings and the white walls and ceiling make it feel very cheery. Most importantly, service is efficient, friendly, and the food is tasty and portions are generous. The menu is extensive and you can get all of the regular local Chinese favorites, including a mixed plate. But you can also get less Chinese local favorites such as hamburger steak, hamburgers, bbq chicken burger, and breakfast all day including our favorite Spam! Our last visit took place after we caught an island-hopper plane into HNL, so it was nice to have a convenient place to grab some good dinner, but if you're in the area for whatever reason, I recommend trying Lagoon Chinese Restaurant out. Even if you're not in the area, make a special trip. There is street parking as well as a few spots in the lot. I think the construction has slowed down in that area, as well. read more

Close to the airport if you are looking for a large meal before a flight. Portions are huge but lacks flavor. I have tried many different things here but the latest time I had the beef chow fun and added broccoli because it doesn't have any veggies. The chow fun has no flavor and is 90 percent noodles. Very filling but not much more than that. I also had the spring rolls this time and they were extremely greasy and floppy so when you dipped it in the sauce all of the cabbage fell out. read more

Starving near the airport used Yelp to find food. Shrimp Egg Foo Yung Two large patties, very good flavor. No sauce though, asked for some they suggested oyster sauce and cheerfully brought some. Yang Chow Fried Rice Pork and shrimp Large shrimp, small bits char siu pork gives it a slight sweetness, nice. Has peas which is uncommon in Sacramento. Reasonable prices. Service Extremely good, the food has slightly different flavor profiles, I was informed Hawaiian Chinese food is a little different than the mainland. Hole in the wall in industrial area. Co workers said this place had pretty good Chinese food, so had to check em out. Parking was confusing but they had a big led sign saying to park in the hotel parking lot. Just make sure you enter the hotel entrance as it's a one way and wrap around until you see the 5 stalls I think that says parking reserved for the restaurant. Got the char siu and roast pork on rice. The roast pork was very dry, didn't care for it at all. But the char siu stole the show. Would come back just for that in the future. First time visiting this restaurant was on Friday - ordered minute chicken cake noodle to go. Brought it home and wife loved the cake noodle. The next day she asks if we could go back and dine in. So we go back for dinner. Steady flow of customers for dine in and take out. We didn't have to wait long for a table even though they were busy. Ordered fried tofu with vegetables, crispy chicken cake noodle, and salt and pepper pork. Everything was excellent! Will definitely go back to try the rest of the menu. read more

Food was tasty and prices were reasonable. I was pleasantly surprised that they had breakfast offerings as well as their other items. They do a LOT of takeouts but have tables and chairs for people who prefer to dine in. We were fortunate to find one of the few parking spaces dedicated to the restaurant. My brother loves this place for takeout, especially when he's feeding a large group and wants leftovers. I've seen so many of my Yelp friends checking into this place. It made me feel like a bad Chinese, since I've never stepped foot in here. I finally checked them out and it was good, not exceptional. I walked in and looked around. It was all locals in there. I was the only Chinese customer, not a good sign. The workers spoke to me in Cantonese, a good sign. I ordered a combo plate C (fried rice, sweet sour spareribs, roast pork, beef broccoli, 2 crispy wontons). I also ordered a garlic chicken/teri steak plate, dry beef chow fun, and seafood combo with veggies. I took it to go. Nothing really stood out to me. The chow fun needed more flavor and wok hei. It was missing that char taste that I'm used to. I was most disappointed in the seafood with veggies. It was mostly veggies with a few pieces of seafood. The roast pork was tender, but the skin was soggy. The only two items that I really liked were the sweet sour spareribs and the fried rice. I did not try the garlic chicken or teri steak. If I'm going to be completely honest with you I would have given this place 3 stars. Those Chinese ladies were so nice to me though and they were so happy that I was fluent in Chinese. Just ok, nothing more, nothing less. I really wanted to like this place more after several recommendations but I just cant. My wife and I went here twice. Twice it was just ok and somewhat less than ok. Here is why. Service is spotty. Yeah, I hear you, Chinese restaurants are usually spotty but hear me out. Taking our orders and then randomly forgetting our water or hot tea while others get water or hot tea. Then taking care of 10 customers walking in with take outs while we wait for our food and water. That is a no go. The food is moderate. We tried the cake noodle minute chicken and salt pepper pork chops at one visit and then we did the beef brisket soup noodle and roast duck soup noodle the next. Both meal were moderate at best. I think I am used to rich favorful chinese food but this one was toned down for some reason. I am not sure if it is the style of their cooking or just "how they do". In addition, the noodles in the soup was soggy and the broth was bland which is a hard pass for me. The beef brisket was ok but didn't have that "know what i'm saying" to it. I know you know what i'm saying. The restaurant was mostly clean and well lit, the table was a little sticky, and there is a clean bathroom. I would only go back here if I am dying for some Chinese food and it is nearby our place of residence. I have a feeling some people will really like this place only cause their taste buds are different than mine but it was a no go for me and my wife. read more

I have to say that this was a hole in a wall that I didn't expect to be so tasty! It's a small little restaurant away from the beaten path, so if someone doesn't show you, you would never know it existed. There were two ladies with about 12 tables inside. The phone was ringing off the hook and they were getting their business done! They took orders, sat patrons, unset tables, served food, cashiered, took phone orders, and placed the to go orders. I give them a lot of credit because just listening to the phone ring nonstop gave me anxiety. The food came out pretty quickly as there were three entrees ordered. Beef chow fun, beef and broccoli and a half order of crispy roast pork. The roast pork was CRISPY all the way til the last piece was eaten. It was crispy with a little pull under your teeth and was just so great to finally say crispy pork and it's crispy. The beef broccoli had good flavor and the broccoli was not mushy. I like crunch to my broccoli and it was perfect. Lastly was beef chow fun. The flavor was good and they had nice pieces of beef. I wish it were a little more "burnt" flavor from the wok but it was very tasty. The inside is a little outdated, but I love small hole in the wall places with good food. The beef brisket with chow fun caught my eye since I'd never seen that combo before. I asked for dry style and they served it with some tendon. OMG, it was so good! The beef brisket was so tender and the tendon practically melts in your mouth. The chow fun was a little on the oilier side but was very smooth. Also, this place is byob. We ordered Crispy Chicken, Beef Broccoli, Mini Chicken Cake Noodles all $13.50 each, Honey Walnut Shrimp $16.50 and Shrimp Fried Rice $12.99. Everything we ordered was bomb A. S.!!! (A Marks Kitchen in Fresno reference). There were four of us, and we were unable to eat everything. Great food for a reasonable price. Parking is on the street, but they said we can also park at the hotel in which the restaurant is situated. Service was awesome local style service. As we did our goodbye rounds, Nadine invited us to this luncheon on Friday. We thought it was a celebration for Nadine for her accomplishments in nursing and celebrating her retirement. Little did we know, she threw a going away party for us! The food tasted scrumptious! The heavenly food menu items included Eggplant and Tofu, Porkchops, Seafood Fried Noodles, Minute Chicken Fried Rice, Ong Choy (one of my favorites), Ginger Fish with Green Onions (good choice). The Ong Choy tasted perfect with the delicate balance of spices. The Ginger Fish tasted remarkable. It melted in my mouth. I really liked the Eggplant and Tofu. The seafood fried noodles tasted heavenly. It did not contain shrimp for some are allergic to this crustacean. After some helpings, I started to feel full. Come to the Lagoon Chinese Restaurant. We came here twice for take out and were pleased with the food and service both times. This place can be a bit tricky to find as of the date of this review, because of the rail construction. To get to the restaurant there is a detour - you will need to turn left from Lagoon drive, into Keehi park, then take another left to get to the Pacific Mariana Inn's parking lot. I really like the boneless minute chicken cake noodle, honey walnut shrimp, fish filet with ginger sauce, and the fried rice. Prices are reasonable for the portions given. The only downside to this place is that it's kind out of the way to most places, except the airport. But for those who want good Chinese food w/o going to Chinatown, put this place on your list. read more
