My husband told me about this little place after he had a delicious and affordable filet mignon one day for a lunch break. Obviously I had to Yelp it first. And seeing that it had low reviews, I was naturally hesitant. BUT I always like to try places for myself and give them the benefit of the doubt...and I'm so glad I did! It was brunch time when we came so I was leaning more towards something breakfasty so I got the chicken and waffles instead of the filet mignon that the hubs so desperately wanted me to try. Also, they offered breakfast and lunch menu so we had a lot to choose from! We ordered a half order of onion rings as an app and chicken and waffles and a ribeye with eggs for entree. Let me just say, they do not skimp on the portion sizes. And we like a good bang for your buck. The half order of onion rings was larger than we thought and it was pretty good! They're huge in size and the batter was very crispy and flavorful. The chicken and waffles was soo delicious! The chicken tenders were crispy, juicy, and full of flavor. The waffles had a slight crisp on the outside, but fluffy on the inside. Paired with syrup on the side..my mouth is watering! I can be picky with my home fries but these were soft and also packed with flavor-not just potatoey like some other home fries can be. My husband's steak was delicious as well. Cooked perfectly, paired with some sunny side up eggs and home fries as well. He couldn't complain! The steak was nicely seasoned and the eggs add a nice breakfasty touch. I really wanted a nice crisp Caesar salad before work so I planned enough time for a normal restaurant lunch. But apparently not enough for Lakeview Harbor. When I arrived, there was no hostess in sight and one couple was already waiting at the counter. Not having an abundance of time, I took a few steps into the dining room. There were no customers, but the staff (all the staff) had pushed 3 4-tops together and were carefully setting them up. I told the server that I had limited time and that there were already others waiting for the hostess. The server looked at me as though I was totally inappropriate and said "we're setting a table." Again, no one except all of the employees was in the dining room. (And BTW, that critically important table that they were setting had only seated 2 people by the time I left.) My bad. I know better, I should've left then. Eventually a young man came out and said that I could seat myself. I wasn't given a menu, but ordered what I could remember from a previous visit so that I wouldn't miss an opportunity to order. The nice, crisp Caesar salad may have been crisp a day or two ago, but not today, and the dressing was so salty that I couldn't eat it. My drink was not what I had ordered. I also ordered some cheese sticks, they were passable, but a long way from good. I took those with me because I was hungry and running out of time. That would have been enough for a crappy experience but, they added something extra! A football game on the large screen TVs -- normally no problem, until they cranked up the volume so high that dining chairs were vibrating with the sound. (At this point there were still only 7 adults in the dining room -- 5 of them trying to hold conversations plus 2 toddlers who couldn't yell loud enough to be heard over the tv.) This was my first trip to the new-ish location. They've been here for a while now, so I'm kind of late to the party. This is the old Wasabi location, and it looks very similar inside. The decor is very dark, very basic, but the dining areas and bar are pretty spacious. Today I had the same thing I've always ordered and it was still as tasty as ever. I'm a sucker for their baked potato. I know they serve a mean burger as well, but today it was just the spud for me. I had it stuffed with cheese, sour cream, chives, and drumroll please.......marinated mushrooms. Their potatoes put any others I've had to shame. They're large, fluffy, they definitely don't skimp on the toppings, and those mushrooms - goodness gracious! - they're delicious. Not sure if the menu says it but there's no substitutions. Overall it was fine but as we were getting ready to leave a small roach crawled across one of the tables. I wish I could give this restaurant zero stars. I went with my family and had my support animal with me. It is a bengal cat - very smart cat with proper tags. I walked in, sat down, no problems. My support cat sat on my lap, quiet and content. We were both happy. Then a woman came over with the waitress, never identified herself and asked me over and over it my cat was a support animal and had proper identity. I kept telling her yes, she has her tags. I showed them to her. She then told me to put the cat in her carrier. I was upset and did what she said. I have my support animal for stress and anxiety which leads to migraines. My biscuit was grilled on the flattop first and soaked up way too much grease and I just didn't like it and sent it back. My eggs were good. My friend's breakfast burger made of a combination of hamburger and breakfast sausage topped with cheese, bacon and a fried egg was excellent: super juicy, flavorful, and cooked well. I've been going to Lakeview Harbor for years! Of course, I was there for the burgers, baked potatoes, and signature drinks LOL Now I follow a gluten-free and low carb diet/lifestyle. I was quite pleased with the new options they have available on their menu. There is a new cauliflower casserole that is keto-friendly and gluten-free. If you can't have the baked potato this is the next best thing! Try it with a side of ranch! I promise this will satisfy any craving you have for a loaded baked potato. I still get the burgers, I ask for them to put it on a bed of shredded lettuce or in a lettuce wrap/bun. The wait staff are very nice and accommodating and the restaurant is family-friendly. You really can't ask for much more. Some of their portions can be a tad bigger but that isn't a deal-breaker for me. They are very accommodating when it comes to substitutions which is wonderful when you have dietary restrictions. I've had several of their signature burgers, sides, sliders drink, etc. I really enjoyed the pulled pork and spicy burger which is blended with hot sausage and is a must-try if you like a little spice. I tried them as the sliders with no bun, add cheese on the burgers and don't forget that side of ranch ;-) I made a side salad with the burger setup on this plate, I was full and satisfied. I eat here at least once every 1-2 weeks. This how/what I order most of the time: Cheeseburger medium (pink no blood) with American cheese, sub the potato with the cauliflower casserole and a side of ranch dressing. Starting with the staff, Christine B. is the bomb. She is the best. We seem to get her more often than the other servers. She gets the order right EVERYTIME. She is obviously overqualified for this job but I hope she never quits because she is half the reason we come here. Next, the Typhoon. Dangerous but yummy. Similar to a Monsoon, it has the same kick to it. If you drink two of these, you are in trouble or you have a problem. Time to soak that second drink up with a big ass burger and potato. They make the burger how you like them every time. Never over or undercooked. Also the burger meats are something else. There is a hot sausage mixed version too if you want a little nip to your day. I find the prices are inline with other places and not over the top. If you are heading out to the lakefront , stop in here for that burger, grab a Typhoon for the road and hang out by the seawall and enjoy that drink. read more

Before the burger craze took over New Orleans, there were only a few dedicated burger joints in the city; and the big three back in the day (in my opinion) were Port of Call, Snug Harbor and Ground Pati. Shortly after I graduated college way back when in 1993 (yeah I know I'm old), Lakeview Harbor opened its doors and I have been a fan ever since. This place is all about the burgers. They start with a freshly ground, hand formed USDA beef burger and grill it any way you want. I like my burgers medium rare and many restaurants will only cook their burgers medium or well done. So it's great to get them cooked exactly like I like them. These burgers aren't disguised with all kinds os secret spices and sauces. The beef is delicious and it stands on its own. If you opt for a cheeseburger, you'll get a mountain of colon clogging cheese; and I mean this in a good way. The buns may not be made by a boutique bakery, but they are always toasted to perfection. And the condiments are always fresh, crisp and ample. I can't recall ever getting french fries for my side item, as the loaded baked potato is awesome. A loaded baked potato includes butter (lots of it), sour cream, chives, fresh bacon bits and cheddar cheese. You can also get mushrooms, but I feel it actually detracts from the original loaded ensemble. Lakeview Harbor also serves steaks, po-boys, daily specials soups and salads. However, to me, this place is all about the burgers; but there are two exceptions. The first is the filet sandwich. Everything on it is the same as the burger I described above. However, instead of their freshly ground beef, they cook to order a filet mignon. I highly recommend it as a burger alternative. Even though it's still beef. The second exception is their pizzas. This place makes a great "old school" pizza. I'm making comparisons to Artista's (closed) and Tower of Pizza. If you like a thick crust or pan pizza, don't even bother, as this is a thin and crispy crust. However, if thin is your preference, give this place a try. The main dining room is separated from the full service bar by a half wall with a mock sailboat "thingie" sitting on top. The bar is always packed, especially for college football games. I'm not the big drinker, but I've met friends here from time to time and we've always had a great time at the bar. They've even recently acquired the space next door and opened up a banquet room for private parties. This place is all about consistency. I have never had a bad burger here. In fact, the burgers here have always been hot, delicious and cooked exactly like I ordered. What else do you need? read more

I've been trying to eat a bit healthier lately, but I allow myself the weekend to splurge on the good stuff, so I ended up at Lakeview Harbor for a cheeseburger and onion rings. Truth me told: I never went to the old Lakeview Harbor. I had always heard raves about how good the burgers are, but I rarely eat burgers these days, and when I do, I go for Company Burger. This new spot is really nice and the inside is set up nicely and is quite welcoming. I was here right when they opened, so the crowd was thin and I was seated immediately. As I mentioned, I got the cheeseburger with onion rings and also a side of potato salad because...salad is healthy. Duh. The cheeseburger comes cooked any way you want and you have your choice of a few cheeses. I went with cheddar cheese. The burger was great- it was cooked perfectly, it came dressed and the cheese was plentiful. While it wasn't as good as Company Burger (I think they cook their burgers in bacon fat or something), I enjoyed it. The potato salad was yummy and the star of the show was the onion rings. I love onion rings and these were golden brown and crispy. They were great and I'd order them again. All in all my experience here was good and I'd return. read more

Immediately asked for a box to take the food home that way I can attempt to salvage what I regret paying for. If you are a fan of thick, juicy burgers in the Port of Call / old Ground Pat'i fashion, Lakeview Harbor is a good choice. Burgers are their primary draw, but they also do well on shrimp po-boys and plate dishes such as red beans and sausage. It's a busy place, properly loud in the way New Orleanians seem to enjoy eating. The decor is in a dark nautical theme, vaguely Crabby Patty but without Squidward or SpongeBob in the kitchen (or so one hopes). The burgers are consistently four stars, approaching five. There are some days when a carnivore wants just exactly that kind of burger, and Lakeview well satisfies that craving. Everything else is good if not all that memorable. Diner on more than one visit have had to endure Fox News on the screens, with audio on, while eating. I've eaten a lot of seafood all over and I can honestly say the fried shrimp was the best I've had. My daughter had the ribeye and it was cooked perfectly. My other daughter had the shrimp scampi pasta and it was divine. The portions were so huge we all had to get boxes to go. Our waitress was super friendly and took very good care of us.
