I am not a fan of pho because of the anise- I am Italian and you'd think I'd be ok with anise. Lantern hands down delivered one of the most flavorful broths without the over powering of anise. High prices for very little portions. I should of took pictures of the 2 soups I bought before throwing them away. Bun bo hue and Pho Special almost $12 each small portion the broth was very under seasoned. Reason why I threw them away. Great fresh, served piping hot, delish Vietnamese cuisine. However, bleak cistomer service at best. Last Sunday, rode in after a long internship day in Riverside. I was craving fresh, piping hot delish Vietnamese cuisine and ordered a few entrées and a Vietnamese coffee. A short whole latest, my buzzer rang and like a zombie walked over and picked up my food. The guy on the other side of the counter must have been equally stressed and did not give me my Vietnamese coffee. Tire and exhausted I totally forgot the drink as well. When I got home, I realized I was short the Vietnames coffee. I called in and yhe young man recognized me from my order. He was very apologetic and said it was his fault. He even walked out to the parking lot to find me but by then I was already in food bliss. So he says not only would he give me my drink next time I stopped by, but he offered a 2nd drink, free for my troubles. Tonight, exactly one week later I was craving a Vietnamese coffee. Respectfully addressed the young man at the counter, explained the situation in detail and he was hesitant to provide a single effort of customer service. In fact, he made me feel like I was trying to pull a fast one on the business. I even pulled the Veteran status to assure him I was legit. I asked him to check the work schedule for last Sunday to find the young man who served me. Again hesitant to perform basic customer service. He indicated thst he could not reveal any personal information. Well, I never requested any! All I asked was for him to internally verify my story. I walked away in disbelief and likely will not return until management reviews their customer service policy and retrains their staff. I even offered to pay for two drinks and then get reimbursed tomorrow. Again, he hesitated and further frustrated me because a simple task was complicated by an undertrained employee. Message to owners....contact me, I left my number with your employee. I hope you can make this right to preserve my long-term business. Thank you. read more

Service was quick and incredibly polite! Noticed previous reviews complaining about seating not being available (only 2 tables), but do you people not realize we are still in a pandemic? I feel SAFER knowing a small spaced restaurant is still taking precautions for their customers health safety and there is plenty of seating in Haven City regardless. My Pho Shrimp was delicious and the broth alone is flavorful. It came with fresh ingredients and side toppings (a little baggie of Basil, sliced Jalapeños, Lime, and Bean Sprouts). If you love pho and banh mi then this place is worth checking out. I know everyone's tastebuds may be different when it comes to pho but I'm Asian and I grew up eating and making pho & I can attest that their pho is right up my alley. I've tried their lemongrass chicken banh mi before and although that was good, i would have to say that the pork belly one is the most flavorful one for me. I hate to write this-but I'm just being honest. If you own or manage lantern-please take this as an opportunity to gain back a customer. This was the worst banh mi I've ever had. It didn't taste bad-it was actually tasty. But the bread. That baguette was way too crispy/dry/cracked apart when touched . It made the sandwich inedible. I threw it away after 2 bites and got a hotdog. In fact- I'm at KLATCH getting a coffee and I'm beating myself up for paying $10 for a sandwich I threw away. I wasn't raised to throw food away.
