My team and I wanted to take our colleague (one of my besties) out for lunch since she recently got promoted/transferred to another department within our company. It's a bittersweet moment since my old team and I onboarded and welcomed her by taking her to Osha Thai. Now, she's ending with the sister restaurant LaoTable. She didn't initially know where to eat, so we actually flipped a gift card for one of two choices. This ended up being the spot and it was such a great choice! My team and I ended up sharing an appetizer and ordering our own main dishes. We ended up getting: -Garlic Chicken Wings $17.95 (shareable) -"Gai Tod" Fried Chicken $25.95 (manager ordered this for herself) -S&P Crispy Pork Belly $27.95 (I ordered this) -Garlic Pepper Pork $27.95 (bestie ordered this) -Spicy Thai Basil Chicken $26.95 (other colleague ordered this) -3 Coke Zeros **my manager graciously paid for all of us to eat, so I'm unsure of the total** REVIEW OF EVERYTHING I TRIED: -Garlic Chicken Wings: These were good! The chicken was fried perfectly, although I do wished there was more of a garlic taste. There was fried garlic paired with this, but not much of a garlic taste to it. Otherwise, the chicken itself was juicy and it was a great starter 3.5/5. -S&P Crispy Pork Belly: This was really good!! I thought it might have been TOO heavy of a dish, but it was filling and did not make me sleepy at all. The pork belly was lightly crisp, and it paired nicely with the hot sauce that has a nice kick. I will say the rice ratio to pork belly was a bit off, but it was still a great portion nonetheless. The fried egg was cooked PERFECTLY and I do appreciate the slices of cucumbers and soup to cut down on the fat. Definitely a dish I would eat again!! 4.5/5. -Garlic Pepper Pork: I got to try a small bite of this dish and it was good! The pork itself is mixed in a slightly thick sauce that is both sweet and savory, Definitely a great balance and pairing with the egg and rice. 4/5 I'll definitely eat here again! The food was delicious although some of the prices are a bit steep. The place was decorated beautifully, as well as the food was plated so well! Food was delicious and so flavorful! So much variety! We decided to go for the Lao Table platter which features some of their fried appetizers (calamari, tom yum fries, garlic chicken wings, pork belly, beef jerky, and three different kinds of sauces) and the Original Lao Platter which included a sampler of their mains. The food was delicious,but there were definitely some spicy items (larb duck and hot and spicy beef soup) that are not for the faint of heart. While the presentation was beautiful, it wasn't a practical setup being placed on an elevated platter and some of the samples were not easy to split, despite it being a shareable dish (soup, lettuce wrap, fried cumin chicken, sticky rice which came in a bag). We also had to ask for bowls for the soup (unless the soup was meant to be more of a sauce?). There were moments where I wondered if we were eating things the way they were meant to be. Overall though, the two platters were a good amount of food that could be split amongst four to five persons and the food was delicious and flavorful! The restaurant itself was spacious, well-decorated, and able to accommodate for our group of eleven persons. Drinks-wise, I quite liked their cocktail selection from their happy hour Jim Julep and one of my friends ordered their Lao old-fashioned, which they lit on fire and gave the old-fashioned a unique smoky flavor. Their happy hour also looks enticing! They apparently have happy hour Monday thru Saturday 5-7PM and all day Friday which includes a varied selection of their appetizers, platters, and drinks, including some of the items we tried. The food lacked balance and depth. It was bland and far from traditional Lao flavors, especially considering the hype. The sticky rice tasted stale, like it had been sitting too long, and the papaya salad was off. It needed more salt, more fish sauce, more life. For the price, it just did not deliver. Service made it worse. Our server barely acknowledged us, even when we said thank you or asked for things. She forgot. Eye rolling, dismissive, no warmth at all. The ambiance didn't help either. Loud techno music that felt overwhelming and out of place. As a Southeast Asian, this was one of the most disappointing meals we have had in a long time, especially for a date night. I came here for dinner and I knew prices would be expensive given the area, but I didn't realize it was THAT expensive. We got 6 pieces of chicken wings for $17. I ordered their Tom Yum soup and I sadly left feeling really hungry even though my total was ~$31. Although the food was very pricey, I thought their wings had delicious fried garlic on them! The tom yum soup was good, but I wished it was more than just 16oz for $15. I don't know the parking situation here since I took the bus, but it's downtown, so I'd imagine parking to be very difficult here. My friend and I came on a Tuesday night and the restaurant was full of what looked to be of corporate dinners. What a great option for a paid-for meal :) it's also got great ambiance for a fancy meal. Overall, the food was 10/10 for presentation. However, for the price, I would prefer to go to a Thai restaurant. Came here for Happy Hour to try their Taste of Laos happy hour platter - a delicious and affordable deal (especially for the area!). For $38 it comes with ten oysters + Garlic Wings + Crispy Calamari + Lao Sausage. Split between two people, with an added $4 side of sticky rice, this was a satisfying light dinner. We were seated right away just after they opened at 5pm on a Tuesday. Service was good, 4/5, not the friendliest but they worked fast and food was delivered quickly. I got the mango mania mocktail ($10), which was just okay with too much ice. Ironically the mocktails and zero proof drinks are more expensive than the selection of $7 happy hour cocktails. Please add a mocktail to the happy hour menu! We were happy with the Taste of Laos platter- surprisingly the Lao sausage was the highlight! I also liked the calamari. Oysters were a 4/5, mostly for being so affordable ($1.50 each even when ordering outside of the platter!), but taking off a star because I had a bad stomach after. I will stick with the cooked foods and try the Tod Tod Happy Tray next time. But the true highlight of our meal was dessert! Stumbled upon Lao Table on one of the Downtown First Thursday nights and was pleasantly surprised. The food and drink menu is expansive. The atmosphere was bustling and vibrant. For mains we had the "S&P crispy pork belly" rice dish and the "pad mee lao prawns" noodle dish. Both portions were a generous size, cooked well, and packed with flavor. Wow... LaoTable is phenomenal. This was my first time trying Lao cuisine, let alone Thai fusion and it was great. We had the Happy Hour Platter which was probably the main star of the show, comprising of: - Garlic Chicken - Oysters - Lao Sausage & we had the Pad Mee Lao with Prawns. This was a spinoff on Pad Thai? I believe, with more spice and seasoning (not as sweet) We didn't get to try the drinks but we'll make sure to next time around. I could not believe what happened...We booked a reservation at Lao Table for 6 people and we made sure that we could go there for my friend's 40th birthday. Actually, it's a few birthdays in the group including my birthday, too. We were looking forward to eating at Lao Table and we were all super excited about it... then they cancelled a week ago by email- good thing I saw that and I called - they apologized and rebooked me for today. Then, without suitable notice an hour before the party reservation, Lao Table canceled on us because a wedding bought the whole restaurant. I was so pissed that I called Lao Table and I complained that we had a reservation, and a reservation is supposed to save your spot in a restaurant. And they just canceled us as if we haven't been calling and reconfirming our reservation. I'm never coming here ever again. read more

This has been one of my staples in the area, but experience can be a bit hit or miss at times. On this particular visit, experience with the Pho Duck was far below expectations. On the menu, and website, its listed under Noodle Soups, with the description: Egg noodles, "Maple Leaf Farms" roasted duck breast, broiled egg, beansprouts, accompanied with clear broth. However this is a huge misnomer. Its a dry noodle dish with a side of soup on the side-- you gotta read carefully that it says __accompanied__ with clear broth. Noodles aren't even pho noodles but a thin chow mein noodle. We then got conflicting information from the server and guy who brought us the food whether you dip the noodles in the sauce or can pour the soup in the noodles and have it as a soon -- which doesn't even make sense, because its such little soup, that you really are just eating wet noodles at that point -- a huge departure from pho duck noodle soup that the menu would seem to indicate. At $27, this is way overpriced, and the "roasted duck breast", while having a good portion size, was overly dry and without flavor. Im a huge duck lover, and at least wanted to finish the duck, but I really couldn't bring myself to eating it. -- Manager said the soup is there to help pour over and add moisture -- but Im going to call it as it is -- Stay away from this dish. It's just bad. My friend wanted to provide friendly feedback to manager on the misrepresentation of this dish, but after all the corporate speak and excuses from the manager, I left very frustrated by my whole experience. Manager in the end comp us $8, which is a nice gesture, but I would have appreciated them to act on the feedback since manager mentioned this was a known customer issue. We also got the Khao Nar Ped (duck over rice), which was marginally better, but overall imo, the duck here is just poorly prepared. My friend got Ka-pow chicken, which look and tasted good -- and is one of my solid recommends at the place. Spicy eggplant is also solid here. For the area, this place can be a decent option -- good for corporate lunches, different style food (Northestern Thai food), and you can regularly see Thai people dining here as well. Price point is on the higher side, so expect lunch to set you back $28-40. If I would have ordered my favs here instead of experimenting with the duck, I could have landed with a good meal, but at an expensive price point, and given this place a 3.5-4 star review, but this was my first time back in a while, and was feeling adventurous. read more

Wow! This restaurant was just what I didn't know I needed. We made a reservation for three to celebrate a birthday. We were seated right away and placed our drink and appetizer order shortly after sitting down. Our server walked us through the menu. We got a spicy fire drink, beer, and lemongrass hot tea. We shared the fresh spring rolls which we had tofu vegetarian style. After our appetizer, we had vegetable curry, pork skewers, and papaya salad. So, we arrived for lunch on a Friday. It was not busy. The restaurant is beautiful. Our server Toto was very helpful and friendly. Very happy to see the non-alcoholic beverage choices. My husband had a Heineken Zero and I had a Sassy Berry zero proof drink. It was soooo good. It is a "gin" mocktail with pomegranate juice, collagen, lime and fresh mixed berries in it. It came with crushed ice and a cute round bowl glass and mint garnish. We started with the Happy Hour Taste of Laos Platter with raw oysters, garlic chicken wings, Lao sausage and crispy calamari. There were 10 raw oysters on ice with a sweet spicy red sauce and lots of lemon. Chicken Wings were crispy with lots of chopped garlic and chilis. The sausage came with sliced raw garlic, ginger and red onion which made a great bite. The calamari looked like fried onion rings. They were crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, not chewy. The platter was perfect for 2 people. Each component was delicious. It was served on a large blue and white stemmed platter that sat high on the table. The Moo Nam Pla (Pork Belly) was delicious. There were bite sized pieces coated in a caramel sauce which made them slightly sweet and crispy. It came with a yummy sweet and sour sauce on the side with hot chilis. My husband made wraps with lettuce, fresh basil, ginger and mint. Nam Som, the Fermented Pork Chop came with grilled sticky rice which was a first for me. I thought it was potato at first. I loved it. There were 2 pieces of thin pork chops on top of the rice. They did have a slight sour taste but the meat was a little dry. It came with lettuce, fresh herbs, ginger and onion. The presentation was gorgeous. The food sat on a pretty blue ceramic plate which sat in a tall woven basket. The "Larm" Laotian Jungle Coconut Curry with Angus beef was delicious. The beef was tender. I loved the palm fruit. The texture was meaty. It was sweet and good. That was also a first for me. It came with jasmine rice, fresh herbs and ginger. This was my favorite. I loved the presentation. The curry came in a beautiful ceramic blue and white bowl with a lid. The rice was in a side bowl and then the other bowl was full of fresh herbs. Lovely. For dessert I had the Anchovy Sundae. It came with 5 scoops of yummy coconut ice cream. It was topped with caramel and crispy whole anchovies which added texture and salt. Not a fan of the fishy flavor but loved the saltiness. It sat on top of sweet sticky rice and a sweet brioche bun. It was delightful and a fun new experience. I drank a hot water with mint leaves. And my husband enjoyed an espresso. The presentation for all the food was beautiful. There were fresh orchids on every dish served. The restaurant has an alter with fresh food and beautiful flower arrangements. There were fresh flowers on every table. The lighting was soft and colorful. I would go back with a group and try more of the dishes like the Crying Tiger and the Sea Bass Claypot. Nice Happy Hour menu too. Really enjoyed the garlic chicken wings and calamari. The oysters weren't that great which is why I removed a star. They didn't taste as fresh as I would have expected. Also, maybe this is a personal preference, but the sauce for the oysters was very thin and didn't "stick" to them so it didn't provide much added flavor. Delicious food here! They have a mix of Northern Thai food and Laotian food. It was right by our hotel so we made a reservation in case it was busy. On a Friday night, there were a lot of big groups! A handful of tables open. They were busy! On Fridays, happy hour is all day, so we wanted to try some of their deals! I tried a tom yum beer while my sister got 805, another Thai beer. Light and not heavy at all! For food, we shared tom yum fries, a sausage, and a noodle dish that reminded me of pad kee mao but with a sweet sauce on the side. We were full! I would come back to try the food as I noticed some folks ordered a large platter that was shareable. It was something in the Laotian section of the menu. Overall, it was a good time! Huge thank you to the staff for accommodating my large party! A bunch of my coworkers flew in as they were from out of town (and state!) and I appreciated that LaoTable's menu was extensive and could accommodate a vegetarian preference. The menu may seem fusion based on the descriptions, but I found the flavors and spice level pretty spot on for some of the dishes I ordered. My coworkers really enjoyed their drinks, while I really enjoyed my Thai Tea that was served in a carafe. The Thai tea was not too sweet (best compliment ever, tbh) and had a strong Ceylon black tea taste, which I appreciate. I had the "Tum Marg Hoong" Papaya Salad and wow it was spicy! 10/10 would order again, as it was great to share with my immediate neighboring coworkers. We also tried the Khaw Kai noodles, fresh spring rolls, spicy eggplant, and spicy Thai basil chicken. Although I liked all of them, I'm partial to Chinese eggplant, so the spicy eggplant was a favorite and I'd reorder that one again.
