One bartender and being skipped twice- way to inspire me to write a terrific review, or....not. Came here on New Year's Day with my boyfriend (whose birthday it actually was too!) only for me to get the vibe that a. We should go somewhere else & b. The bartender is discriminative against young people. We came up to the bar next to these surfers hanging out around our age and I overheard the bartender rudely asking if they were 21 & for ids rudely about 4 times. I could tell the service was below par from the get go and we waited, never were acknowledged to see an older man come up & the bartender start talking to him only to skip us & immediately give him his drink and then another older group of guys came up & again were served right away. We didn't say anything but I was livid- we just got our drinks (which were average bloody Mary's $5.50) & left. Granted- I would only come back here if I was on a budget and looking for cheap drinks but I personally would not choose to after that. read more

Oh man! Where to start with this place? I live right down the street from here, but only come once in a blue moon. lol. It's a true Southern California dive bar! This past weekend, I was here twice, which was definitely a first for me. I had a great time both nights. Friday night, they had karaoke & a live band going, which is normal for a weekend! Karaoke wait time was about 8-9 songs, but it's super entertaining to watch as well. There are actually some really decent singers who come through! The live band is usually pretty good as well. Safe to expect classic rock covers all night! Very eclectic crowd. You really never know what to expect at Larry's. I would recommend this being your final stop for the night! :) read more

This was my first time here with friends. Was there Saturday 8/20 at 5pm. That bar tender should be fired!!! She had to be the slowest bartender I have ever seen!!! If your the only bartender then get your ass moving! She couldn't care less!! She would skip us and rude!! All we want was to check out!!! We told her we were still waiting she got even slower with her crap attitude!!! We left Because were not your local customers!! And treated so badly! She had a personality of a ROCK!! If I could give this place 0 stars I would. I am 23 years old and was born 11/22/1995. But the bouncer wouldn't let me in. Funny, cause the person who went behind me had and ID that wasn't even hers and he let her in. I will never try to bring my business here again. All I did was ask him what time closing time was? Like seriously? Is customer service not your strong suite? So if you guys want to come to a place where they try and tell you you're too young when you are almost 5 years over the legal limit this is the place for you! Talk about a dive bar! This place is so much fun with the karaoke, and live music. If you want a typical diver bar this is the place. The place is muggy and old. The drinks are strong, and decently priced. The bathrooms are run down. The beer choices are limited. I never start at Larry's but usually end up here at some point in the night. Bartender could have easily said "be right with you" but just looked at us and looked down and didn't say anything. I've been to Larry's a couple of times now and I dig this place. The place has 3 separate areas. The main bar area where the stage is for bands, a room off to the side where they do karaoke all night during the weekends (and there's a small full service bar in there), and a covered patio area where you can bring your drinks and smoke your cigarettes (ahhh such a luxury). There are plenty of tvs for the games too. I've only been here during the weekends and the place is popping at night. The band plays until closing and both times they've had rock n roll/ mainstream music which is fun to get down to. I have just a few qualms which lowered my rating. My whiskey cost me $7 a shot here vs $4.75 at Scotland Yard, my home base. Also, during the weekends at night, it gets a little young and catty, which is just straight up annoying. It's nothing that the bar can do anything about, but it just is what it is. I will say that the staff are super cool and that I definitely appreciate. read more

Interesting joint this place is. Wonderful high-back stools at the bar with a fine fabric, nice bar area with attentive barbacks. Now, the food? I had a couple of the meatiest oyster shooters around. Nice big briny oysters. The cocktail sauce in my opinion could have stood a little more lemon juice and a tad more horseradish. For lunch I had poppers and their fish and chips. They were good with healthy portions. The breading was not too thick and had a good seasoning to it. I'd return to this divey place but probably only during the day. There was some kind of meeting going on in the smoke room while we were there. Not sure what type meeting it was but looked to be some of the 'muscle' of Oceanside. read more

They have a fantastic location a few blocks from the beach. They have a few good bands there. The young bartender is hardworking and attentive. The older guy - meh. That's where the good news ends. Dance floor non existent. Tore up the front underside of my car trying to park in the dirt lot across the street on Tremont. It was dark and huge crater mud hole totally invisible. 2 k damage and totally avoidable if they bothered to fill it in or put a cone in front of the thing. One week later it's still there filled with water and mud. Women are afraid to go there alone because of shady patrons. read more

It's always an adventure at Larry's! Do you watch the hit TV show "Don't trust the B in Apt 23?" Ever wanted to live it for real but way less funny and requiring you to bring your own hand sanitizer? Good news! You can go find the bartender there who's name IS "B" and she will make you wish you stayed home! Is it fun for the whole family? Absolutely not! It's not even fun for you! We went here for drinks late on friday night, they had a local band playing which was very cool. I ordered a peanut butter whiskey shot which was delicious and twice the size of the shot we bought at crackheads cocktail bar in carlsbad. They had a smokers patio to the side. The space felt cramped, more seating might have helped because we stood beside a table which blocked everyone else from walking by but there was no more seats, we had to basically stand on each other in there. It was cool but once a bachelor party showed up it became shoulder to shoulder to walk in there and we had to head out. read more

Ambiance is crusty just as a dive bar should be. Oh and did I mention that they also have bar trivia? And an out door patio? OK it's a smoking patio but it is outside. So my lady and I just moved to the area and wanted to check out our local bars within walking distance. Wow was this a mistake! If I could give a 0 I would. We visited on 7/7 early afternoon. I have been in dive bars all over the world and I must say this was disgusting and creepy! Started with us walking in and being greeted by a VERY intoxicated individual who was in our face and looking my lady up and down she was creeped out needless to say! I put myself in between this loser and my girl and we proceeded to the other side of the bar! We sat and sat and sat waiting for our not busy bartender as she talked to others and completely ignored us. Well, all I can say is that during Monday Kareoke I was the 3rd person that put in a request and the 42nf person called. BTW should I mention I am black and 98percent of the patrons were white. I have come here many times and have felt welcomed. Today I came in with my androgynous girlfriend and androgynous best friend and within the next song the music stopped. When we sat down we began to talk to the bartender (Zach) and he said he would not talk to us and has no interest in talking to us and opened up a news paper. Word by word. Immediately we were all confused and on the defensive. We shook it off and asked the bartenders if they could play music since the bar was quieter. They said they couldn't but that there is a juke box. I decided to play music since no music was playing in the bar and I said "let's play lgbtq+ friendly music Taylor Swift You need to Calm Down" As I began to choose the song music began to play and I turned around and the bartenders both had their phones open choosing songs. Regardless, Art was more friendly towards us however Zach made it a point to be open towards anyone in the bar except the lgtbq+ community. Even the other customers noticed and asked if we were ok. In doubt we try to think the best of other people however I 100% believe Zach is a homophone and it's on his employers to decide if Larry's is a LGBTQ+ safe place to visit. read more

A dive bar with a full kitchen INCLUDING BREAKFAST? Ah, the people watching is incredible, the food is edible and the drinks are strong. Oh, and you can buy lottery tickets, here, too. Because that's normal. It happens so often: I wake up on the weekend wanting eggs and potatoes and a beer, but I'm met with a dilemma: most "breakfast specialty" places in Oceanside don't serve alcohol OR there's a huge wait to even sit down. I want to have my butt in a seat and a mimosa or bloody mary in my hand when I reach my destination, and Larry's does just that. I don't have to worry about what I look like or if the night's shenanigans are apparent on my face, because the majority of the people there are also trying to "medicate" from too much fun mere hours ago. I've only been here once at night, and it was poppin' with a decent cover band. I hear the karaoke room is fun, too, but I've never experienced it. A solid dive with decent food. Came here for the first time a couple Friday's ago and when I walked up to the entrance the bouncer was motorboating some titties. I assume he was sniffing for drugs since they're just trying to keep the patrons safe. Once in, we grabbed some shots, cause you need it here, and it was off to the karaoke bar. Saw one of the security guards spittin mad game on some cougar(looks like he secured the bag) then we put our names in. Some older chick was killing the vibe with a depressing song so I figured it was time to break the seal. I headed on down to drain the main and surprise, no line, unlike the women's restroom. Then two BFFs went into the handicap stall, which I assume was to shake it for one another. Also they should probably clean that stall because it sounded like their noses were agitated with all that sniffling going on. Before I knew it, I was hammered and they were kicking everyone out cause it was closing time. All in all it was a solid night. I've been back 3 times since. Also F**k PB! read more

Don't put your stuff down- I've had my beanie and phone stolen here in the past. Was not retuned to the bar. Just a word to the wise. Not the bar's fault but still. On this particular night it was awesome to be here on Pride weekend. However the karaoke DJ was obviously trashed and kept singing over every song. He also demanded "cash money" to get your song played first. Wth... just play the songs in order. No one wants to pay up and cut others in line. No one wants to hear a drunk, out of tune DJ singing in the background of every song so loudly that they can't even hear their friends who waited to sing. Then the system powered off and he couldn't get it back on. I get that he was new and that's out of his control, but he did not need to show up noticeably drunk and high and wreck everyone's fun. He made it all about himself. 4/5 for the bar, for a dive bar it's great and has tons of charm 1/5 for karaoke. Get it together! read more

Larry's is the kind of place you love or cannot stand; there isn't much in between. If you like divey spots, this IS your place! Lots of locals, karaoke on one side of the bar, live band on weekends on the other side, lots of energy, always someone interesting to talk to on the smokey patio. I love the griminess but I understand it's not for everyone. Great people watching though. read more
