Wow wow wow!!!! I drive by Larsen's bakery on a daily basis and people rave about it. I remember during the holidays seeing lines out the door. Not sure what took me so long to swing in there and get some baked goods. The people are so nice and helpful. I had a work meeting and wanted to get some morning treats for everyone. I got a few Danish twists which were so moist and had tons of flavor. The cinnamon one was so delicious. Also got the almond and apple flavors. Last minute I decided to get the almond Danish Kringle. It was right out of the oven. Win win! I think they are known for this. Being a baker myself I found their store to be so inviting and the cakes were amazing looking. I see a lady in the window every morning decorating the cakes and she does an amazing job! I highly recommend swinging by and loading up. I got a buttercream style cake and miniature princess cake. The staff was SUPER nice. The princess cake was good, but the regular small cake's buttercream frosting was grainy. Kind of disappointing and gross to serve a cake for a special event with thin grainy frosting, especially given how much they charge. And the cake itself was dense and kind of dry. Would have been better off with a grocery store cake :/ I'll probably come back if I ever want princess cake again, but not for other items I was also a little peeved to see a surcharge on my bill. Some products are arrayed on tables as self-serve, 'grab-and-go' items, like Smorkage. Customers can also snag pre-bagged pumpernickel that is kept cold in a sliding-door refrigerator case. We were only in Seattle for the weekend, but Larsen's was so good that we came here twice. I was very impressed by the apple fritter which wasn't heavy and doughy like many can be, but instead had crispy edges enhanced by an abundance of glaze. I would say the fritter was a little light on fruit though and tasted more of cinnamon than apple. The real star for me was a flaky, crispy cream cheese and blueberry danish with a generous amount of sweet, rich filling. I don't normally care for danish much, but the counter person recommended it and so glad I listened and tried it. I'm sort of glad I don't live near Larsen's as that danish would be hard to resist if I had more access to it. read more

This is, by far, the most disappointing 1-star review I've written. We were so looking forward to enjoying Larsen's Bakery but were extremely let down by the quality of service and product that we received. For my wife's birthday cake, she asked for a Lemon Cake w/ Raspberry filling and Whipped Cream Frosting. I Yelped around and called many places looking for the bakery that could do the trick . . . The good reviews and menu options resulted in me landing on Larsen's. I called two and half weeks before the birthday and ordered the cake - exactly as she wanted. They require you to pay over the phone at the time of ordering, so it was all set to go and I just had to stop in and pick it up. Here comes the big day, the birthday afternoon. I swing by the bakery to pick up the cake and what do I discover? They have "lost" the order and there's NO cake to be picked up! The employees there did not really seem to know what was going on with the cake orders and didn't show much sympathy other than saying they were sorry and I could have one of the cakes that was already in the display case that was close to what I ordered. Um . . . I think not! I paid for and order the cake that I wanted over two weeks ago and there was no record of it anywhere in the shop. I told them that I wanted them to bake the cake I order and I would pick it up the next day. They agree to that. Here comes take-two on the birthday cake. I went to the bakery the next afternoon to pick up the cake and they did in fact have it ready for me. It looked great and was decorated nicely . . . but once I got it home and we cut into it we were utterly disappointed with the taste! The cake itself was dense and hardly had any lemon flavor at all . . . there was practically no raspberry filling anywhere . . . and it was overpowered by an enormous amount of frosting (even on the inside)! The cake too was pretty crooked when you looked at the cross-section after cutting into it. It seemed to be made in a hurry and tasted like it was baked a week ago. We will not be coming back to Larsen's for any reason and would not recommend ordering or buying cakes from there. It hurts to say it, because we really are small business friendly when it comes to baked goods and like to shop local . . . but we've had better cakes from the grocery store. It took one guy more than the 15 minutes that I was there to get pastries and make coffee for two people! If the two people working, moved any slower they would've been going backwards. I highly recommend Larsen's. Everything they make is delicious! I purchased several dozen for a large work meeting and they were a hit! The napoleon's hat (marzipan in shortbread) and almond horns were especially popular. My boss who doesn't like overly sweet foods loved the Stollen. I also received great service from the staff. I forgot how much I love this bakery. It's been at least 10 years since I last visited and the pastries are still delicious. Husband was really really craving a kringle and I said I knew just the place, even though it was quite the trek for us to make the haul out to Ballard. We stopped by on a Saturday afternoon and waited in line outside as they were limiting the number of customers in the store. Masks were required and everyone was adhering to the rules. The selection is vast, with at least 8 different danish flavors, breads, croissants, doughnuts, etc. You name it, they have it. We picked up a whole kringle, along with some various danishes and croissants and promptly scarfed down a kringle slice before we got back to the car. They have great pasteries, cookies, bread, cakes, etc. I wish they had gluten free options that I could eat, though they do have delicious macarons. Today we got my husband a birthday cake. You can drop in here any time and get a cake, which is so awesome! We went at 5:30pm before going to my grandmas up the street. A long time Seattle establishment, Larsen's Danish Bakery (Larsen's Original Bakery on the receipt) is scheduled for a major renovation next year. Stopped in for The Homie's first visit (11/11/17). It was fairly busy, there's even an automated entrance and one takes a number for counter service. I always think holiday kringle and Larsen's. The Homie bought himself a chocolate brioche ($1.09) and a strawberry cream cheese croissant ($3.29). Thankfully, I was full from a late brunch elsewhere in Ballard and passed on any baked goods. I took way too many photos while at Larsen's, like the Yelp geek that I've become. I'll let you be the judge, so much variety of baked goods! With the Scandinavian flair, I'm much more partial to Sluy's in Poulsbo and Byen in Seattle's/Queen Anne-SPU neighborhood. read more
