Our family loved Las Ranas and always looked forward to their delicious food and friendly ambiance. Unfortunately, we were extremely disappointed today by their poor customer service and inattentiveness. We waited so long, over an hour for our food - several orders were wrong and incomplete (they started making our daughters orders after they brought ours when they realized they completely forgot two orders). Not once did they acknowledge their delay or poor customer service. The service was so poor that we have no desire to return which is unfortunate. read more

As I was about to get hangry and road rage all the way back to LBC, I found Las Ranas. At first glance, this looks like your run of the mill Mexican restaurant. After spending a few minutes looking over the menu, I noticed the level of service wasn't run of the mill. The gentleman behind the counter was helpful with making a decision. He had water, salsa, and chips on the table by the time I came back from the restroom. My chilaquiles are delicious (están muy enchiloso). Value for the price and quality are really unexpected. Got myself the 3 taco combo with rice and beans. IT WAS SO GOOD! 2 asada tacos and they were so juicy, especially with their salsa verde and guacamole. Carnitas taco was too good! Came here for the first time with my buddy for a midweek bromance. I asked the waitress if their Huaraches con (with) nopales (cactus) was any good. She just smiled and nodded her head up and down. I tried it with Al pastor... It was as good as her confident head nod. The base was just the right amount of crispy, the meat was not greasy but not dry... Called in my order for lunch and was impressed by the quality of food here as well as the professionalism of the staff here. My to go order consisted of a chicken burrito. They however had a meal special that I took interest in. For about $7 dollars you can get the burrito, order of chips and a can of soda. The burrito was pretty good I must say. So good! It was my first time and thanks to yelp! Such a small hole in the wall you could easily pass it by, but don't judge it on that. The salsa (4 different flavors) are some of the best I've had. My husband had the molé enchi's and that sauce was bomb!! I had cheese myself, and the enchilada sauce was super good too. If you judge a place by its beans and rice, those were great too. We frequent Las Rainas Cafe with our Friends after the Gym. Recently we have been experiencing the Coldest Winter Weather since I can remember, so we tried the Beef Soup and the Chicken Soup. Upon the 1st Sip of Soup Broth-- Ahh Nice Flavor! The Soup Serving Portions were Ample and Filling, enough for 2 Meals for my Wife and 1 1/2 Meals for myself! I like to come to this place with a good friend of mine before school. It's right down the street from Cal State LA. Super convenient. We come to this awesome little hole in the wall Mexican restaurant, grab a drink, maybe grab another drink, maybe grab a couple more, sometimes grab a bite, and then head to class which is only a short walk away. My favorite thing about this place is everything. Their food is top notch. I got a wet burrito. It was about half my size so I could only make a dent in it. Leftovers. They also give chips and salsa as soon as you take a seat. They give you a basket of chips and about 4 different salsas to choose from. They make a mean michelada too. Nothing too over the top either. It's not a five-course meal michelada. You can have like 4 of them during happy hour which is from 3pm to 7pm so you get 4 for the price of 2. It's actually 2 for the price of 1. Then head on over to class and get all the participation points. They have awesome customer service too. They are very attentive! I have no complaints. 5 stars. Perhaps the best wet burrito I've had in Los Angeles. I've lived in the area for 9 months and wish that I discovered this place sooner. The employees were extremely professional and kind. The food was made extremely quickly. Contrary to what another reviewer says, this business DOES have restrooms. Why anybody would claim otherwise is a mystery. I visited the men's room, and I can confirm that it's clean. Anybody calling this eatery a "hole in the wall," doesn't know what that phrase means. Really good food & really good customer service. The guy who served us today, welcomed us right away & had salsa & chips ready for us when we sat down. I ordered the enchiladas for under $9 & they tasted homemade. I would definitely come back here & suggest this place to friends & family. The only thing that is a downfall is that they don't have a public restroom. I could imagine it would be hard for small children, elderly or a pregnant person to wash their hands & get to a bathroom if needed. I've been to hundreds of restaurants around the world, but Las Ranas has to be the strangest! It's located between a likuor store and a Marijuana dispensary, so every boozer and pot head in town staggers into Las Ranas. I love beer, but I haven't had a drink in forty years, I may have puffed a joint, or two in college, but nothing since then. I have nothing against it, but it just isn't for me. Unfortunately, I got a contact high just sitting in the restaurant. The aroma of marijuana is so overwhelming. Apparently, the marijuana dispensary gives away a free snack with each pot purchase, I think a small burrito, or taco, munchies. Because every pot customer left the dispensary and came into Las Ranas, gave the cashier a ticket, like a ticket at an amusement park, a purple ticket, and left with a free burrito. I heard them ask for their free burrito, I never saw anyone pay for their burrito. So Las Ranas is like a revolving door, at least thirty pot customers came in for their free munchies while I was eating my meal in my booth by the door. Very difficult to relax and enjoy my meal with a constant stream of pot customers coming in, and leaving within five minutes. Each one was wearing a pot tee shirt, white with a green marijuana leaf on it. And each one was clutching a white medical marijuana bag filled with pot. So I'm not imaging anything. The parking lot Las Ranas shares with the pot dispensary and likuor store was a nightmare. Like a beehive, with cars instead of bees lined up awaiting a parking space to be vacated. I decided it was safer to park a block away than to risk a fender bender in the narrow parking lot. read more

ALERT for meal less than $10 ALERT!! I must say, I am so impressed with what they have done with the place. The interior is decorated and painted and looks so clean compared to what it looked like when it was Chris' Pit Stop. While i loved the old spot, I think the owners have more time and energy to take care of the place and it shows. I got Carne Asada Tacos (4), a diet coke, and it came with chips and salsa. All for 10 bucks including tip. The food was so good! Carne asada was flavorful and they let you put your own toppings on it at the topping bar. I really want to try more of their dishes and because it is so affordable, I can do so. The only thing this place is missing is beer. If this place gets beer, then I am in trouble or heaven (I can''t decide!) Really though, if you come here you will enjoy some great food, chill atmosphere and the owner and chef are really friendly. Diamond in the rough, hidden gem, whatever you call it, this place is DANG GOOD!! Probably the closest to how mama used to make. They have really good salsas which are spiced perfectly. The service is fast and friendly and you will leave here with a full belly. You might even have to loosen your belt. Also bring your chargers because all booths come with a power outlet. I would give them six stars if I could! I spent the last six years in the Midwest, where the breakfast burrito isn't a thing and the few there are are not worth even a desperate visit for. I'm in my first week back living in Southern California and I thought Denver had really great breakfast burritos, then I tried this place. I've worked many years in retail, and I know how it is working with the general public; you don't know what the next person will be like. The guy who helped me out was awesome. I wish I had got his name. Cleanliness is a big thing for me. The salsa bar was kept shut and was cooled properly and was not messy. I felt good about getting the salsa verde (it was excellent btw.) The burrito was exactly what my Southern California native soul has been searching for since I got here. The tortilla was fresh, everything tasted on point. I'm very plain and specific, and sometimes I might expect too much, but this place got it right. My boyfriend got the chicken burrito and said it was bomb. Very thankful this is next to CHR.
