Still making Italian bread like the one I remember as a kid growing up in the Eagle Park section of Providence in the early 60s. Crispy on the outside and airy inside. Great for toast! Their pastries are fantastic and there is a great variety of calzones. Ample parking in their lot besides street parking. Parking can get tight at peak times. They have 2 locations in Providence; one on Smith Street and the other on Admiral Street. There are a few tables inside and out as they also have hot coffee. Plenty of counter help, but can get bogged down at peak times. Long lines just tell me their products are worth waiting for. This is the place for all occasion cakes. Today I ordered two breakfast sandwiches on croissants with bacon and cheese and was horrified when I saw piles of uncooked bacon on our sandwiches. Ironically they were very generous with the fatty uncooked bacon. I've never had this issue here before but to have both of our sandwiches look like this is absurd. Have some pride in what you prepare for customers. This is absolutely unacceptable and quite frankly, embarrassing. Needless to say my appetite was ruined. Came here to grab desserts with a friend on a Monday night. It was quite empty, about 3 people in the bakery at 6pm. But there were a lot of people picking up desserts every now and then. I ordered the fruit tart and my friend ordered the chocolate cheesecake. Both were absolutely delicious! The fruit tart was very creamy and had a chocolate bottom, it was also the perfect size for a dessert. However, prices are a bit higher for the desserts. read more

Named after the educational institution across Smith Street, the second storefront not far off at 685 Admiral, it is immediately upon entering the brightly lit Café that the corporate feel hangs heavy, a cluster of seats up front and polished "welcome to LaSalle Bakery" coming from a youthful staff tucked behind Pastry cases. Owned by a second generation of Michael Manni at this time, Senior having purchased LaSalle from its owner in 1975, first time guests will need a moment to peruse before making decisions, the focus Italian but additionally including oversized Muffins, Croissants, Scones and Bagels. Visually appealing but higher priced than the likes of Silver Star, DeLuise or The Original Italian Bakery, an Elmhurst address producing clientele quite different from the ethnic cohort seen at the others, it was beginning with a $2.49 Corn Muffin that disappointment arrived fast, the crumb dry and mealy without flavor while Carrot Cake inexplicably followed suit despite a good amount of Raisins. I've been to LaSalle Bakery so many times! I stopped to try their for the first coffee during the RI Food Fights Summer Celebration. The flavors were unique and the coffee tasted good, I got a chocolate hazelnut. I just wish the customer service was better. The staff (two young girls) were not overly friendly. So many choices to choose from here so be sure that you have an idea of what you want or else you will be staring into the endless display of delicious choices. I have not had one thing from here that hasn't been good. Their danishes are to die for. Some bakeries cannot make a danish that is flaky AND moist. This place CAN! Seriously, it's perfect. I must also speak for their red velvet cupcake which is by far the best I've ever had in my entire life (yes, that good). The frosting is incredible, the cake is moist, and the little chocolate shavings really tie together that perfect bite that a cupcake should have. Cookies are yummy and crumbly. Crumbly cookies aren't really my style but when dipped in a glass of milk, all is well. Fantastic cinnamon rolls as well (heat that baby up!) I took off a star because my heart has been set on a raspberry bismarck but I have yet to have one because they are not currently baking them. And that made my dessert-built heart break in half. So they will get a star added if they have those in & if it's as delicious as it looks in photos (considering everything here so far, that will not be an issue). The zeppole here are the best. The pastry shell is true choux pastry; the pastry cream has a good flavor and consistency; the ratio of pastry cream to pastry is balanced. The same cannot be said of zeppole I have had from other bakeries. Their pastry shell was dense and did not taste like choux pastry, and the pastry cream itself seemed to have some kind of artificial flavoring and/or a consistency suggesting too much of the wrong kind of starch. read more

They made an excellent birthday cake for my daughter's first birthday! Lots of flowers, sparkles, and ribbon. The cake itself was yummy and simple. As far as their counter baked goods- they're definitely tasty looking but they aren't my favorite. They're impressive but I think they fall short on flavor and texture. The coffee beverages are great, especially the iced coffee. I heard that the protein pizza is very yummy. Haven't had it myself though! Be aware- they do not have wifi. read more

This was actually my first time coming to LaSalle Bakery in person, even though I lost my mind over the most amazing birthday cake from here. LaSalle is a classic neighborhood Italian bakery with everything from lobster tails and cannoli to fruit tarts, muffins, and scones. There are SO many options and the line can get a little long, so be sure to plan out your order while you're waiting! I had a cheese danish (~$3?) and it was delicious! The icing definitely made it pretty sweet, but the pastry was so flaky and perfectly baked. They also have about a dozen different flavors of iced coffee; I just had original, but they have some more crazy options like banana hazelnut for those of you who like flavored coffee. The service is super friendly and the vibe in the shop is really cute; there were tons of families, couples, students, and even people on break from work. There are some tables and chairs outside, although it's on a somewhat busy street, so not the nicest view. It's convenient that there's a parking lot, although I didn't have any trouble finding street parking. Overall, LaSalle is pretty much the quintessential family-owned bakery. Hey I met Xavin today - one of the staff members. One thing that stands out with Lasalle is their customer service. It doesn't take much to impress me when it comes to customer service and Lasalle seems to have it. They have a good system when they are busy to keep the lines moving. Their iced coffee - which they do have several flavors of iced coffee is pretty decent. Their cakes, pies and pastries are always spot on. I purchased their red velvet cake today - and it was light, creamy and super sweet. The perfection of different nuances and textures. I would say steer clear of their canolis. I've had the best in Boston, NYC and Providence, and Lasalle's are C- If you are throwing a party or an event - This is your place. read more

There are a million bakeries in Providence; and I have to say, this one is probably one of my favorites when it comes to their atmosphere, customer service, and option choices. They have it all here-- sandwiches, smoothies, coffee, muffins, scones, cookies, and more! This bakery had been family owned and operated for years and years.. I love supporting places like this because you can tell the family really cares that the customer gets a pleasant experience. Tons of staff usually working behind the counter to make sure people get in and out quickly. They even have an express line for just coffee which I think is great. I will say this- I agree with everyone when they say they are a bit overpriced. I get that they need to turn a profit, but the prices of somethings are a bit steep. This has been a favorite since I was in elementary school and it was 1/4 of the size. The chocolate chip cookies are my favorite .. they are large, fresh and full of chips. The brownies, cannolis, cupcakes. Italian cookies etc do not disappoint. The cakes are so moist and delicious. We have never been disappointed by flavor or design across 30+ years. Very disappointed.. Went there this morning 5/16/19 around 930ish had a girl with curly black hair waiting on me, def. Wasn't the friendliest I've ever had wait on me there.. She seemed annoyed, order an egg n cheese on a snowflake roll 2 canollis and an almond crescent get home side down to eat my sandwich and the eggs r burnt and not just a little.. I've been going to LaSalle bakery forever and everything is amazing: lobster tails, almond croissants, zeppoles, giant red velvet cupcakes, chocolate chip cookies, literally anything you pick you can't go wrong. The pastry cream they make is the best I've ever had. Fresh cream, dense, not overly sweet, it's perfect. What I'm raving today is their triple chocolate ganache cake. They used to make it YEARS ago and recently brought it back and I've never been so happy. It's just as good as I remember which is to say that it is the best chocolate dessert ever and one of my top 5 favorite desserts of all time. Stopped in today for some sweets. I don't often get to this tried and true gem even though I'm only a few miles away. If you are looking for some continental breakfast delight, you have come to the right place. The croissants are on point. Spinach and feta, ham and cheese, plain, almond. Plain divinity with a cup of their endless flavored coffee combinations, which are also smooth, not acrid or bitter, and a great compliment. The danishes are also delightful as are their lunch sandwiches. If you are in the mood to also take a treat home to toast on the griddle later and have with some afternoon tea, don't skip the loaves. The chocolate chip is divine. I am a glutton so I come home, pan fry it with a little butter and spread Nutella on it. Shhhhhh....don't tell anyone. Perfect compliment to a nice cup of earl gray. Who is looking?! Lol. Lastly, don't skip the Neiman Marcus cookies. Alas, if I could give this place 4.5 stars I would.... Why didn't I give this place 5 stars? I LOVE LaSalle! This is their busier location since it's right near LaSalle Academy and RIC, but they've gotten better at crowd management over the years. I hadn't stopped in for awhile, but when I did the other day I was impressed. They finally have roping so that people stay in line and are helped in the order they come in. There were so many days when I used to come here that I would have to fight through the angry mob to get to the bakery counter. The new setup is much appreciated. Their chais are mad good, and they have a ton of flavors that they can do hot or iced. My favorites are the pumpkin and the vanilla. They also have really good coffee. This is THE PLACE to get cannolis. They make the best pistachio ones. Those are my favorite, and most other places don't do them quite right. One time I came in with my boyfriend and they were having an oh-so-dangerous cannoli sale. We ended up with two boxes full and pretty much wiped the place out. I swear they weren't just for us! We were trying to spread the deliciousness at work. When I came in the other day, I noticed a few new things. Kale pies!? I had to give it a try. It was surprisingly delicious. It was much like a spinach pie, except better because I love kale. And they make it in a whole wheat pocket. It was just the right amount of food for breakfast. LaSalle makes awesome soup too. I was on a hunt for sugar cookies that took me to 3 bakeries and ended at LaSalle. Thank you LaSalle for remembering those who do not like chocolate. I've heard good things, but this was my first try at this local bakery. They definitely have the largest variety of any bakery in town. Lunch? They've got you covered. Breakfast? Covered. Dessert? Covered. If you can't find it here, it likely cannot be found in a Providence bakery. I was overcome with choices and had to pick up more than sugar cookies. Everything I tried was delicious, packed with care, and fresh. I do think the cookies are a bit overpriced, but their custard pies are the cheapest in the neighborhood. The bakery itself has a good amount of seating, whether you are grabbing lunch with a friend or enjoying a coffee and reading the paper. I just found out that the employees are not allowed to take any lunch or meal breaks at all no matter how many hours they work. If they do they are yelled at and reprimanded for it! Stopped by to get some pastries. Pecan roll, fruit tart, carrot cake and raspberry square. All of them were outstanding. Moist, flavorful, yummy. The best deal was the pecan roll for $0.99. The fruit tart and carrot cake were over $3 but yummy licius ...and worth every penny...every bite. This is my favorite bakery in the area, I would go here for dessert any time. :-) read more
