Went for Friday happy hour. Got there a few minutes early and ordered 2 margaritas, which are one of two cocktails on the happy menu. Blonde female bartender tells us she can't put in happy hour food until 3 pm but that drinks she could do. When I went to pay the bill, she had charged us for full priced margaritas- saying that the tequila she offered and used was not part of the happy hour. She corrected the bill for 1 round because she obviously knew she was trying to slide it past us. I give it two stars because I like the food. I swear I'd give this place 4.5 stars if they were a FULL service restaurant. It's one of those joints where, if you're not lucky enought to be sitting AT the bar, you belly up to either end of the bar & the 'tender takes your drink/food order & you're handed a plastic numbered placard so a server can connect you to your food. He was great, even coming back a few minutes later asking if we needed anything...and later, very prompt in picking up the empties. Laurel Tavern is a very popular place to grab a drink. It gets packed everyday, even on the weekdays. It's right next to some other busy restaurants and there's very limited amount of parking spaces around. Luckily, they have valet parking. You find your own seat when you walk in and go up to the bar to order anything. There's a line to order food or drinks most of the time. You can also start a food and drinks tab so you don't have to pay multiple times. They have several beers on tap but I really wasn't impressed with the selection. I tried 3 different beers and they weren't very tasty. My friend had an IPA and she wasn't that crazy about it either. The food are pretty good. I had the mussels and the sauce it was cooked in tastes amazing. I was tempted to eat up all the bread by soaking it in the liquid. My friend very much enjoyed her house special burger. We didn't try the duck fat fries but a lot of people ordered it. It's more like a potato wedge than fries because it's a huge piece of potatoes. I may be back to try it next time. read more

My fiancé and I dropped by to grab dinner to go for our night at the Hollywood Bowl. We ordered: - Tavern salad, add chicken - bleu burger - steak fries As if paying $40 for a salad and a burger and some fries isn't already a shock, we got to the Hollywood Bowl and I opened my salad box only to find a bed of lettuce.... The description said the salad will come with "grapes and cherries". I'm sorry, you mean FOUR, HALF pieces of grapes? How generous of you Laurel Tavern. Oh and please, be my guest and forget to include the chicken we ordered AND paid an extra $5 for. Plus, my fiancé said no onions on his burger, but since you're already so generous, yes, please include the onions.. I've heard that Laurel Tavern gets crazy crowded, and I can see how that would be really frustrating with the order-at-the-bar-and-seat-yourself system. We'd thought about going with our Studio City friends a couple times, but were deterred by the thought of stressful waits. We finally made it for Sunday afternoon drinks with our friend Vanessa S. and ended up staying five hours through Sunday dinner. It was a good day. The place was pretty empty when we arrived, pretty crowded when we left. It wasn't hard to order at the bar, and service was generally good. My one complaint is that I left two books sitting at our table when we left, and when I called to ask if they were there, the person on the phone said she checked and they weren't. When I went back to see for myself, they were literally on my seat--the girls at the table next to us even said they were wondering if I was coming back for them. I don't think the staff bothered to look at all. Anyway, I'm not even docking a star for that because everything else was excellent. Loved the fun, casual atmosphere, and both food and drink were on point. We had a couple cocktails and several beers, and I liked it all. I enjoyed El Diablo, a tequila drink with fresh lime, pomegranate, ginger syrup, simple syrup, and soda water. It was tart and refreshing with a nice kick. The Laurelvardier was a great whiskey cocktail, made with rye, vermouth, campari, cynar, and orange bitters. The draft beer selection was pretty good. I don't remember everything, but I know we had a couple rounds of Ballast Point Sculpin IPA. We had all eaten a lot earlier in the day, so Vanessa and I split the grilled shishito peppers and the Laurel burger for dinner. Both of these were superb. The shishito peppers were cooked to a lovely blistered texture, flavored with lime, cilantro, aged sherry vinegar, and sea salt. They had a nice heat to them, some peppers more than others, and were fun to put away. The Laurel burger was a surprise. I expected a decent burger, but this was one of the best I've had in L.A. The patty was thick and juicy, cooked a perfect medium rare. It came on a tall fluffy bun with yellow mustard, caramelized onions, farmhouse cheddar, sweet pickles, and arugula--a real dreamboat. The peppers and burger made me want to try the rest of Laurel Tavern's menu. (We actually found ourselves at Sixth Street Tavern later in the week, but alas, the burgers were not the same.) The tavern has a great upscale/casual/industrial feel to it. This place would be great for a date night, after work drinks, or meeting friends on the weekend for some fun. There are 2 flat screen TVs located behind the ends of the bar. I like that because you can still watch a game without feeling like you're at a sports bar with a bunch of knuckle heads. This spot is pretty well known in the valley, I would say... Especially to the Ventura boulevard crowd. I've been here a few times in the past, and really I got to say that I've always enjoyed my time here. Food is pretty darn good... No, great.. I mean seriously, it's delicious... Like finger-licking, lip-smacking yummy. I'm not talking about some great gourmet, over-blown dishes. I'm talking about pub food that exceeds your usual burger and fries. I've been coming to Laurel Tavern ever since I was introduced to it back in 2008 when it opened up (there's some history for you folks). It's a neat spot really, on the weekends it gets pretty busy sure but I've always found room to sit someway or another. During the week it's a bit more mellow. There's no reservations to make. On weekend evenings you usually get carded at the door, but besides those days, walk in, find some seating at the bar, communal table, or tables around and enjoy. It has a cool vibe and nice environment filled with comfort and style. You order food and drinks at the bar, there are no servers, and the menus are around the room on the front walls on either side. They change the drinks every now and then but you'll find a bunch of awesome craft beers, wines, and gourmet style type food. Laurel Tavern is just one of those places that never fails to deliver. It can get crazy there on the weekend nights so plan accordingly. You order at the bar and then go find a table and sometimes on a Fri or sat night it can take a while so know you just have to be patient. Or maybe wait to order at the bar (food) until you secure a table. We have been where we panicked because we ordered - and we still hadn't found a table - and our food was being brought out. Honestly haven't had anything on the menu that I didn't love. Our "go-to" items are the soft pretzel. beet and burrata salad. spinach dip. smoked salmon. veggie melt and also grilled cheese with Tom soup. and their burgers are all amazing! service is always fantastic. Vibes are always immaculate. Prices are what you would expect. Can't call it expensive but it's also not what I would call "cheap eats" but I promise it's all worth it and you get what you pay for. I found this place through Yelp (of course!) Saw the many wonderful reviews and thought "why not?" The bouncer/security guard at the door was very welcoming. We sat at a table towards the back near the bar. We were not planning on ordering food BUT the minute I saw that they had Brussel sprouts, I couldn't resist. See below for the ratings of each item I tried: -Glazed Brussel sprouts: 5 out of 5 stars, amazing good. So good we ordered a 2 second serving ( I could've probably had another) -Chorizo sliders: 4 out of 5 stars, comes with 3 sliders. Flavor was good but nothing topped the Brussel sprouts) -Blackflower mixed drink: 3 out of 5 stars, not a huge fan it was a bit hard to drink. This is a great place to come for a beer during the day! It's a nice open atmosphere with interior brick. They have an extensive beer menu but they also have cocktails and wine. I LOVE their margaritas because they're made with lime juice, not sweet & sour. They are $8 each. The LT fries are incredible & a steal at $5. The sandwiches are great as well. Just kind of pricey since they don't come with a side and run from $11-$13. The service is very fast, but my only concern is that you have to order at the bar no matter where you sit. So if you're sitting at the bar it's a bit annoying to have people come up behind you just to place an order. And if you're sitting at a table it's bit unorthodox to have to go to the bar to order food. Overall I love coming here after work or on a Sunday to have a drink! read more

This bar is alright, but wasn't as impressed as I thought I would be with it. It was definitely crowded and the drinks are pretty good. They boast having a good beer selection, but I honestly thought it was a little boring and limited. The cocktails were definitely the highlight of the drink menu to me. Didn't have the food, so I can't speak to that. The crowd that Laurel Tavern attracts is also very interesting - seems to be an older crowd which is good and bad. Drinks were strong and tasty! The interior of this place is sort of rustic (like so many of the places these days) exposed brick, wooden tables etc. Things to know about this place... there isn't any cocktail service you order your food at the bar, have a seat and a runner will bring it out to you. The Bartenders are friendly and knowledgeable about the menu so you are in good hands. Parking is 'primo' since you are on the main restaurant strip, they have TV's here with sports events on but the sound is off, you'll be listening to music. Newsflash: Laurel Tavern is now open for lunch, and that's not all! First an embarassing confession: LT has been open for over a year now and I hadn't been there. I don't order cheeseburgers if I can help it, I just think it helps me live longer. Kind of like moderating my alcohol consumption. So we finally went here today and I think I would gladly trade a month of my life for the Bacon Blue Cheeseburger. After hemming and hawing over the menu items, my friend and I decided on the Grilled Artichoke, Fries, Bacon Blue Cheeseburger, and Laurel Burger, which we ordered directly from the bartender and then picked a table to sit at. Fifteen minutes later, our food came out, and it was beautiful. Like the girl-or-boy-next-door, grown up. Classic items with great taste and maturity that most burgers don't have. The grilled artichoke was out of this world good. The leaves slip off like silk on skin and melt in your mouth. The Ranch dressing on the side is almost perfunctory, you can eat the whole thing without dipping it a single time. The burgers were fantastic. At about ten ounces, they're big and juicy (really you don't need more than this) and immediately after we cut and split the Laurel Burger and the Bacon Blue Cheeseburger all was silent, save the sounds of us quietly chewing our food, juice dripping down our fingers and the light breeze blowing through the open sliding window. Honestly, I can't describe each bite because I almost blacked out it was so good. Notes: The bacon is broken up into manageable pieces so that each bite has bacon distributed onto it. The arrugula on the Laurel Burger is so fresh you'll swear they just hoed it out back. They give each person their own little cup of Ketchup, perfect for double dipping! You definitely get more bang for your buck here than at The Counter. My only gripe was that the burger was a tiny bit undercooked, we asked for it medium. I will make sure to keep this in mind next time I go back. And I will be back, especially to try those pork belly skewers. Looks like my life expectancy is going to get a whole lot shorter. I loved this place when it first opened and I still do. The bartenders (super friendly), the food (excellent pub food), the beer, the ambiance. Everything about this place makes it worth going to the valley. There is no other place like it on this side of the hill. You can easily spend $20 a person for food and beer and be pleasantly stuffed. The portions are the perfect size, I don't need a burger the size of my head, or an order of fries as big as a plate, to be satisfied. Their hours are convenient too. They open early enough for happy hour after work, and they are open on Sat AND Sun afternoons for lunch on the weekends. Love the ambiance here. It's a nice little pub in studio city. Parking isn't too bad. It is $3.50 to valet. They check id when you walk in and you have to order your food at the bar and find your own seats. Food was great. Slightly pricey but beers can range around $5-7 which isn't bad for good beer. My buddy and I came here for a drink after our dinner to hang out and catch up. The place was pretty busy, okay mix of guys and girls, but overall, the vibe was pretty cool and laid back. Lets be real, I've been to my fair share of gastropubs and this one has to have the most minimal beer selection. I like quality craft beers which this place has a couple of, but the selection was one of the few "cons" about this place. I love diversity in my beer selection, something for all. I don't know who gets to choose this beer list but they need to step their game up. They do serve Dogfish Head 90 Minute - pat on the back my friends. I roll up around 8:30 pm and this place is packed! I ended up parking a few blocks up since the valet was full - yay free parking! I walk up and I get the pleasure of having to wait in line...poop - yes they were at maximum capacity at 8:30. I finally get inside (after about 10 minutes) and there is no where to sit - awesome. People come in and out so finding a table was fairly simple after about 10 minutes. You have to order your beverage and food at the bar which can be a pain since it's SO loud in this place you can barely hear yourself think. The ambience is semi swanky/laid back and the people here are beyond annoying. I'm not the one to vent and talk down about a business - annoying girls are beyond their control, The set up of chairs, tables is very crammed - if you have personal space issues, don't come here on a busy night. Unfortunately with the crowd and close proximity of people it's semi impossible to hold a conversation if you're out with a friend unless you feel like yelling. Now moving onto the food. I ordered the Bacon Bleu Burger which was divine. Small and prices but finger licking good. Only suggestion is to lay off the sugar with the grilled onions and to have thicker slices of apple - the apply addition gets lost within all the other flavors of the burger. Anddd please add salt to your fries - their steak fries are huge which is a + if they actually tasted like something. I felt like I was eating a baked potato with no additions, toppings or flavor. I'm so disappointed because I've been looking forward to trying Laurel Tavern and my experience was not that pleasant. I'm still in denial and don't want to accept the fact that what we ordered was HORRIBLE!!!!! The LT fries were good, the Burrata and Prosciutto plate was good minus the bread moist with a burnt flavor. The club sandwich-stay away!!! It was so dry and bland that I needed to drink fluids to moisten the food in mouth so I can swallow. Please explain to me how you can possibly go wrong with a club?? The bacon was over-cooked almost impossible to bite (choking hazard). The bread for the club was also moist with the burnt taste, the arugula was way too much and I love Arugula and the avocado didn't help with dryness. Since I am in denial about the whole situation, I will go back and give Laurel Tavern one more try. read more

Laurel Tavern - French fries (beware of the puddle of oil at the bottom!) - New American Near Me - Studio City, California

You could almost call Laurel Tavern "Father's Office Light." I went here last night for a friends birthday and was pretty happy about it. I thought that the overall decor and ambiance of the gastro pub was nice. It had a homey feeling, I think that was from the brick walls that surround the inside of the building. Their beer selection was adequate however pales in comparison to FO. Im not sure of the total but I think they have about 20 beers on tap. For food of course I had to try their burger so I could compare "Apples to Apples" against FO's, well I guess its Burger to Burger. The first thing I noticed was the size. Its rather small. I believe it came with arugula, crilled onions, cheese?, and pickles (sweet pickles I believe). I may be missing an item but you get the idea. Anyway, it was a good burger. It wasnt one of those "when you come here you have to get the burger burgers" but its worth a taste. This is a pretty good spot for drinks in the SFV. The only downside would probably be that parking can be hard to find but there is a valet. read more

Came to Laurel Tavern with a couple friends from work after our softball game at a near-by field. Although we had just lost the championship game, we were still welcomed by the folks at Laurel Tavern. I actually even felt as though the bouncer was empathetic towards our lost (until 2 pretty ladies walked by and he just stopped talking to me) They have a great selection of beers, and the atmosphere is a typical gastropub. It is in a "hip" area of Studio City, so parking it at a premium. The food also appeared to be good, although, I was there to just drink the sorrows from our loss away. If i'm in the area, I would not mind returning to Laurel Tavern. If you live in the area, I suggest trying it out for a beer or two. read more

Bottom Line: Great place late night to catch up with friends... really delicious wings. Friendly service. There's also an outdoor patio. Parking is pretty bad. Food: I think the food is good! It's a little on the pricier side, but the portion sizes are solid so I don't mind. Wings and fries-- my go to here. The kale caesar is pretty decent, but nothing spectacular... Atmosphere: IT IS DARK. IN. THERE (in my opinion). I enjoy sitting outside more than sitting inside, and the bar area can get a little cramped. Don't get me wrong, it still has a nice little vibe. Went back her two weekends ago, after my son's post-wedding brunch at the Four Seasons in Westlake Village. Incredibly, we ended up sitting next to his Best Man, who had been looking for a place to stop and have a beer. Nothing has changed from our last visit and everybody ordered off of the chalkboard and walked to the bar for their drinks. It was nice interlude in a busy, busy weekend and allowed some of the wedding guests the time to prepare for their red eye back to NJ. We opted to stay overnight and make the trip the next day. I wish this place was still Sapphire, but now that it's been Laurel Tavern for 5 years, I shouldn't reminiscence any more. This place is good for beer if you want a local, low-key kinda of a good time. I always feel like I'm at school with the way the chairs and tables are set up. If you get bored and need a change of scenery, you can walk over to Clear, Doh!, I mean Page 71and drink some more beer and dance it off (live DJ). No cover at both places, price for beer is astonishingly cheap, find street parking and if you can't, valet it. read more

Can you say Chorizo sliders?! The sliders have a great spicy kick and the perfect bite. They come with three sliders, I would also suggest getting their fries to share. My friend had their Chorizo fondue, which was more like bread with a chili like dip, granted it was good, I would not call this fondue by any means. Once my friend finished her bread, but still had dip left over, the waitress brought over more bread, super nice of her! This place gets packed! If you can't make it by fish, good luck! It is hard to find a big enough of table for a larger group. We had a group of about 12 or so... some had to stand, but we were also able to combine a bunch of tables, which was really nice. The staff was attentive, the decor is a dark bar, but not dingy. The overall space it not very big, but when we left, there was a line of people trying to get in. They also had the game going on and it was on one big 100 inch drop down screen, it was pretty awesome! I would definitely come back here! read more

Been here around a dozen times. Nice casual atmosphere and good selection of beers. However I am writing this review because the French Dip sandwich was amazing. The best I've ever had. The bun was fresh. The meat, provolone cheese, and the caramelized onions were heavenly. It was already seasoned well, but the Au Jus was thick and flavorful. The horseradish was perfect. Usually it's too strong. I was throughly surprised how good this sandwich was. Like seriously. Bravo. Got it tonight. read more

When I lived in Hollywood, this was my hotspot! My boyfriend and I would make the easy drive down Ventura and use valet ($4) since street parking was impossible. Popular place for young up-and-coming starlets and semi-hollywood hipsters. The best menu option is the Salmon plate! Soooo good! Trust me, it's a fan favorite! Thinly sliced salmon on crunchy crackers with delicious truffle oil sprinkled with capers. Your mouth will thank you! It gets crowded, so don't expect to sit down. Great cocktails!
