Cool little coffee shop, I had a coconut latte with Macadamia nut milk, was not disappointed, had great flavor. I will say that sometimes you want a pastry with you coffee and the selection was not good, they only had banana bread and croissants, was hoping for a bagel or something. A fun little coffee house to visit on a mellow Kihei morning. Their coffee is strong, there are great personalities behind the coffee bar, and tons of prepackaged coffee and goodies to take home with you. I tried the coffee freeze (I think? There's a lot of fuss about Kihei Caffe next door, and I'm sure it's good, but if you're looking for a great cup of coffee, some island flava of a local business, and a fresh bagel or other pastry, look no further than Lava Java. The people inside are warm and inviting and the coffee is terrific. We bought the local brew in both hot and cold, a medium-bold blend, and both styles did not disappoint. The bagel with cream cheese was delicious and it made the coffee even better. We'll definitely be back. read more

Solid coffee place with chill vibes~ Interior of the shop is small with wooden interior design. My BF and came around 8:30 AM, pretty popping from early morning. We both got the pour over, flavor was nutty and well-roasted, not the best coffee we've had but overall good for $3.00. They also have frappe, latte, and pastries for other beverage/food choices. Overall fast service with sick vibe, highly recommend stopping by for a quick coffee run. read more

This quaint coffee shop in downtown Kihei is ideal for a quick pit stop to pick up coffee to go or enjoy a sit down breakfast. They have iced or hot coffee and a Frappuccino style drinks as well. They have parking adjacent to the store which makes this for an easy spot to pick up breakfast. This is a mom and pop store and they do sell cute apparel in this store. This is an update to my previous review since the owner doesn't believe I went to their store. I just checked my credit card statement, and yes, this is the location I went to at 1941 S Kihei Rd. And after checking my statement 8.72 was my total. I left a $1 tip and added a hazelnut flavor. Again, my latte was made without fresh espresso, I don't know what was used but it was some sort of pre-brewed coffee. Maybe it was an off day for the barista, I don't know. As I said before it tasted fine, but truly I expect an actual latte with ground beans if I am paying $8. Please don't bully customers into deleting their honest reviews. read more

Beautiful cup of coffee. The line looks hefty sometimes but the barista is super fast cranking out drinks as fast as he can while making a delicious cup of coffee. Seriously best iced latte I've had in a long time. BEST coffee and iced chai in Kihei! my husband and I have been staying here for a week, and I was on the hunt for a good iced chai because I'm not a coffee lover. I went to several places, kalia cafe (no bueno), green grass shack (really terrible ) and da green coffee bar wasn't that bad, but Lava Java definitely top tier I wish we found this sooner. My husband always sticks to the iced vanilla latte and he's super picky about his coffee, he doesn't like it to be too sweet. The barista even encouraged him to try something different, he was very convincing so my husband ordered coconut instead and he loved it. It's just that good!! read more

I had them bring a cup of soup out to start along with my wife's coffee. Gotta be honest--when I dipped my spoon in, I was already judging. Looked kinda thin, not creamy like other mushroom soups I've had. I was thinking, "Ahh here we go." Took one spoonful and immediately had to humble myself. That soup was money. Like, stop-talking-and-just-eat. My wife tried it and confirmed that this soup was "winnahs" . Deep mushroom flavor with the right amount of seasoning. It also came with a little piece of focaccia toast which I would have really enjoyed but had to take my wife's word for it since she ate um all . Should've ordered the bowl. Rookie mistake. For my main, I went with the original eggs Benedict. Portions were a little on the small side, but with the roasted potatoes, I was good. Didn't leave hungry, didn't need to loosen the belt--perfect middle ground. My wife got the strawberry waffles and yeah... those were legit. She's not a syrup person, so she asked for more whipped cream. The waitress comes back with a little mountain of whipped cream in the little silver ramekin. All in all, solid spot. Friendly people, ono food, and little touches that make you feel taken care of. We will be heading to Cafe Kaila again to try some other stuff like the "chicken and waffles", and next time, I'm not playing around with the soup. Bowl, Garans.

There are a lot of breakfast spots on Maui, but I can see why this place is always recommended. If you're visiting, it's definitely worth stopping by at least once. This particular location is a truck in the food truck area of Kihei Marketplace and has both a walk up window and a drive thru. On the morning I was there, two people were working, one on each side. After looking over the menu I decided on a Haleakalatte and chose to get it hot. The menu described it as a deep rich caramel latte. As I watched the barista make my drink, I noticed it was going into a plastic cup, which meant iced. It ended up coming out as a large iced coffee. Since it wasn't a big deal, I took it and went on my way. The coffee itself ended up being pretty good. The caramel flavor was on the lighter side, adding some sweetness without overpowering the coffee. The coffee itself was rich and came through nicely. I also liked that they used coffee ice cubes, which helped prevent the drink from getting watered down as the ice melted. If anything, it added a slight bitterness, which I didn't mind. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. While I would have preferred the hot latte I ordered, the iced version worked out just fine and was still enjoyable.

But I dither, Nick's Fishmarket Maui is in an incredible location inside the Fairmont Kea Lani and it's setting alone would be enough to pull me back even if the food was just okay. Thankfully the food is MUCH better than "just okay", it is generally outstanding. I rotate starters and salads because there are so many great choices. The Caesar Salad is about as good as they get, but I really, really like the Maui Greek Salad. With at least four people we start with the Seafood Tower, but find it just too big for two of us. Other than that the Kalua Pig Pot Stickers, Charred Octopus, Crab Cakes and Blackened Ahi are the starters I rotate through. For my Main, I am less eclectic. I have a hard time getting away from the Diver Scallops and Scampi. I have tried other dishes, the Abalone, Kona Lobster and Ribeye (I know, I know, who orders steak in a seafood restaurant), but I keep coming back to. For Dessert, I am also in a rut, but I love desserts they set on fire and in this case it is Bananas Foster. I do sneak bites off my DW's Creme Brulee, as does off my BF. The service is terrific, attentive without being intrusive. I used to joke about the Chicago store that if you knocked a spoon off the table someone would catch it before it hit the floor. The Maui service isn't quite that attentive and I am not sure I would want it to be.

Table next to us raved about them and although the tortilla and the fish were fresh, the 'blackened' seasoning did me in. Overkill on a nicely cooked piece of fish - hard pass. Lamb, although cooked properly, (and I thought interestingly presented but) hubs is a meat guy and felt all the additions - sauce, relish, goat cheese - was overkill. Have to also say he didn't enjoy the waiter taking his knife to hand prepare a bite the way he thought it should be eaten. We barely saw him after that which further soured the experience. He vanished after the big ticket part of the meal (the 82$ lamb) and mentioned a comped panna cotta for our anniversary after we'd ordered a paid desert. Oops we owe you that next time (but you'll take our money today) Our food runner was great! Super upbeat, always with a smile. Bar area was relatively quiet until it wasn't. We wouldn't spend $350 this way again but would sit at the bar for sashimi and bounce.

BLUE BITS OF PLASTIC IN OUR COFFEE. WTF??? This place accuses its customers of shoplifting. WOW. I'm a 30%+ cash tipper no matter where I go. But I've NEVER had such BAD SERVICE like we did on Maui. It didn't matter where we were at or what we were doing on Maui. It didn't matter if you were getting married or had a birthday. No matter WHERE we went, the service was ATROCIOUS. Hard eye rolling. Loud sighs."I guess." "I suppose so." All in a whiney voice that one could expect from teenagers, but NOT ADULTS. In 5 days there was not one "Aloha". Not one "Mahalo". Not even a smile. If you don't want to live on an island, then MOVE. I saw more burned out cars on the side of the road than I saw in Oakland, L.A., Chicago, & Detroit COMBINED. 25 burned out cars alone just on the Road to Hana (NOT worth the drive, by the way.) During my brief two-day trip to Maui, Lava Java Coffee Roasters became an essential pitstop--not once, but twice. The service was incredible, and it was enlightening to have a brief chat with the owner about how recent fires have impacted coffee production. I can't recommend their hot macnut latte enough; it's a delightful experience in a cup. And don't leave without grabbing a bag of their Maui coffee. K so i've been trying to find this place for so long!!...I went here 2 years ago and i loved it. coffee was amazing...when my buddy and i walked in they made us try the green bean...and it was cool. THE espresso was amazing...so I bought 1 lb of the peaberry coffee bean for my best friend to try...he was very impressed and told me it was the best coffee he has ever tried..and he loves coffee. Best Coffee EVER! I am a regular visitor to Maui and my friends have been telling me to try Lava Java Coffee Roasters of Maui, so I finally did. Wow! I wish I had listened earlier. The coffee was excellent! The owner, Pat, was super informative and even let me try a fresh, home-grown coffee cherry. I also sampled a frosty coffee drink, (I think called Granita?), it was AWESOME, Strabucks can't even compete. Lava Java is for coffee fans. If coffee is your drink then Lava Java Coffee is the place for you! The owner is personable and the attendant is very friendly. The last time I was there (a couple of weeks ago) the owner was roasting coffee and had just put some on the porch to cool in the maui morning air. One of the highlights of our annual stay in Maui was our daily trip to Lava Java Coffee in Kihei. This quaint family owned shop serves outstanding lattes and coffee. On our last day we purchased bags of pure Maui Peaberry coffee taking advantage of the great discount of getting a free bag for every three purchased - great price. We highly recommend that all coffee lovers visiting Maui go to Lava Java Coffee for their java fix. read more

So I was across the street and a red haired woman started yelling and started gossiping about someone. It seems that she should take care of her personal issues before arriving at work. 19 years in the restaurant industry, this could hurt a business with a quack like that.
