Went to this French restaurant recently. The service was okay, but the decor was definitely our favorite part, beautiful atmosphere. I ordered a crepe and French onion soup. I enjoyed my food, it was very cheesy and not exactly healthy, but delicious. We had complimentary bread and olive oil that was good. My three friends ordered the chef's specials (chicken or fish with soup and dessert). soup was quite salty. The dessert, which came with the chef's special, wasn't very good either. Went to celebrate Valentine's Day. A very popular Saturday night. We were fortunate to have a fantastic table. Our waiter said they turned over 300 tables which is amazing for a smaller dining area. Only the fixed price menu is available on Valentine's Day. Bummer, no soufflé option. Our appetizers, mushroom soup and St. Jacques (seafood with puffed pastry top) were delicious! Unfortunately our sole with crabmeat entrees were disappointing. Probably a poor choice to order fish on a night like this. Possibly frozen vs fresh. On a normal night this dish has been outstanding but on this visit the sole was mushy - likely due to the masses. Desserts, tiramisu and strawberry cheesecake were both delicious. The bistro was a major letdown. It was busy with the Saturday lunch crowd, but no diners were waiting for a table. I seated myself at the bar. The bartender repeatedly asked if I needed the wine list, but I politely declined, opting for iced tea instead. I accepted the complimentary bread with my lunch. For my main course, I chose the Salad Niçoise. As I sipped my iced tea, I noticed the second glass, also garnished with a lemon slice, was meant to be a refill-- warm tea only, no ice. This saved the bartender from leaving the bar. Later, he returned with the bread and its condiments. Despite not having napkins or utensils, the olive oil came with a spoon to mix the ingredients. I used this spoon to pour the oil onto the slices. When the Salad Niçoise arrived, I reminded the bartender that I needed utensils. He promptly grabbed napkin and utensils, but his distraction seemed to have lasted a while. Later, he mentioned that he had forgotten the salad dressing. Despite the restaurant's busyness, the bar remained relatively quiet. The bartender was not busy preparing drinks. There was even an opportunity for the manager and bartender to have a conversation about a customer, falsely believing the ambient noise would have muffled their discussion. read more

On this last visit I started with the dinner salad, which is nice because it has feta, olives and cucumbers in addition to the standard lettuce and tomatoes. I tried the scallops and tomatoes and basil for my appetizer. This was a disappointment because there were only 2 very small scallops. For $17.00, my expectations were higher. For my entree I had the sole with lemon butter and chives. It was light and fresh and perfectly broiled. Beautiful setting for high tea! My friends and I went for a bridal shower and totally had a great time. This is your chance to dress up ladies and gentlemen! Great for small or large groups and for those who especially love tea time-the gossip and the actual tea- and for those who love snacking! Food is made fresh! They have various options of pastries, soup specials, sandwiches, charcuterie boards, and so much more depending on the season. A friend brought me here for my birthday and it was wonderful! We decided to do high tea(must make reservations 24 hours in advance). It was a lovely experience. I wasn't sure if I would get full but I actually did. I didn't realize it was a full restaurant and next time I will plan to eat off the full menu. The restaurant is cute and bustling and nicely has a lot of parking. But the interior was so noisy I could not hear the person next to me, and we were repeatedly having to shout our orders since the waitstaff couldn't hear us even standing right next to us. The French onion soup and escargot were pretty good! The mussels standard and fine. Foie gras was okay, I prefer it cooked over chilled but it was fine. But then the entrees. Oof. Everything was so heavy and so overly salty and very...just okay. The lamb was cooked very tenderly, but the sauce was so overpowering. Probably my mistake for ordering a pasta here, but the fettuccine was weak, thankfully the seafood pieces in it were decent. The salmon in my pasta and my mom's salmon entree were much too overcooked and very dry. Duck was okay. I think I discovered how much I just generally am not a souffle person because these looked fantastic but wow I did not like either of them. The people I was dining with seemed to enjoy them fine though so it's probably just a my own personal bias thing. Oh the bread here is excellent though! So that's a nice saving grace. read more

I have been a patron of Lavendou forever-15+ years. In fact when I brought my mom out from San Diego , Lavendou quickly became her favorite restaurant. But this is a shout out to Robert. Robert has been a waiter/host at Lavendou from the beginning of time. He greets as if you just entered his home, by name. And he is such an excellent server. Today, I was dining alone... with my book. He respected the book, checking on me but not interrupting and I felt like I could stay as long as I wanted. Observing how he managed the dining room, he knew most by name and included little chats here and there. He even offered to run after a diner's friend who was walking in the parking lot the wrong way. He does not know it but he makes dining there so enjoyable! Went for afternoon tea and it was lovely. The food was good and the amount was perfect. I do wish they provided options for more savory items, and for a French restaurant, I was very surprised there weren't mini quiche. Overall the sandwiches were good, bread was soft and fresh, the scones were 2 bites and delicious, and the pastries were very good. Everything we had was bite sized and didn't require utensils, except to spread cream and jam on the scone, though the scone was lovely even without the jam or cream. Service was friendly and efficient, the restaurant is lovely, definitely a great spot for a traditional afternoon tea. You do need to call for reservations at least 24 hrs in advance. read more

Lavendou's Easter Brunch was a huge success. We had a crowd, my wife, sister, wife's brorher and his wife both visiting from Philippines. There was a large crowd and they were geared up for it. We started with champagne. Their house version was perfectly fine. There was a special 3 course menu with 4 choices for each course. Came here for High Tea with a friend a while back and absolutely loved it! The High Tea is served with English breakfast tea (other tea selections available upon request), finger sandwiches, mini pastry plate, tea breads, scones, cream, butter, and jam. Overall, everything tasted pretty good and we had a wonderful time. I especially enjoyed the scones (tastes so divine once you add the cream to it), and the tea breads. The pastries were delicious and from the finger sandwiches, I liked the chicken salad sandwich the most. All the staff were super friendly and accommodating. I just attended a ladies lunch group and was seriously disappointed. What is normally a "order off the menu" and separate check group became "afternoon tea & add your credit card to the pile". I have been to Lavendou 3 times and 2 visits have not been positive, today's visit was my last. The attitude of staff was as if they are a "cliquet French"restaurant in Paris. Have talked about going here for quite some time and finally decided to go. Very quaint. The atmosphere does give the vibe of old world a bit. White table clothes. Nice atmosphere. Menu has all the typical French greats. We didn't vear too far into the french side of the menu though, maybe next time. We started with a filot dough wrapped shrimp with salad, which was very good. They paired it with a sav blanc which was also good. We moved to their steak with mushroom sauce and fish of the day which was branzinno. The steak was very tender and the mushroom sauce just enhanced it. The banzinno was good, but a bit bland. We ordered the grand marnier souffle for dessert and shared. Nice presentation. It was good, but have had better. We paired with a port and Saulternes. The staff was very attentive. Cleaning the table, checking in when appropriate, helping with decisions and guiding with the menu. Definitely recommend for a special occasion, romantic date or other. My wife took me to Lavendou laser evening for Fatger's Day dinner. We had visited here once some years ago but never returned. Now I know why. Last evening, although we were quickly seated,we waited for perhaps 10 minutes to be served, even water. Then after perusing the menus, our server(?) - he never introduced himself - swept in for drink orders which were handily served. Then server returned to take our meal order, and went away. My wife's salad and my soup and salad were served. The soup was pea, not the French Onion ordered, leading to a delay. The Ceasar asked was a scattering of lettuce pieces, store-bought croutons, and shredded Parmesan on a plate. My 8-year grandson could have done as well. Finally, the correct soup was served and it was very good in flavor, contents and presentation. Overhearing a conversation at an adjacent table, my wife learned that there was a dinner special our server did not tell us about although after taking our dinner orders, he did return in haste to inquire about dessert soufflés. Yes, we wanted one to share. We were not asked about having wine with our dinner nor having coffee after. And lastly, after walking past our table several times without looking, I had to yell to our server to collect my credit card to pay. He had not brought our bill and didn't appear inckined to do so. My father wanted to have a tea party. You'd like my father. He's a hoot. Also, have you priced tea parties in Dallas? There's a place right by my house and it's $66 per person. Lavendou is $35 for the exact same menu with a cuter environment. The location is in a strip mall--but do not let the detour you. Once you walk in, you are transported from Dallas to France. It is darling, a point possibly lost on my father, but not on the rest of our party. We had two pots of tea, finger sandwiches, scones, zucchini bread, and an assortment to desserts. It's more food than one person can eat. We had to have the remaining desserts and scones boxed to go. Service was good, especially since the placed was packed at 1 p.m. on a Saturday. They close at 2 p.m., but we were never rushed. Plenty of parking, bar, and traditional French menu available in addition to top-notch tea service. read more

The cozy interior, kind (if a bit rushed) service, and price point were highlights. The lunch menu looked quite good, but -- as afternoon tea fans -- we opted for the tea service. We liked the chicken salad sandwich, the lightly sweet zucchini bread sandwich, and the creme brûlée tart well enough. The scones were strange: hard balls of dough served with whipped cream and jam. Sadly, the other two sandwiches and two dessert bites were just not good. This was one of the most lackluster teas I've ever experienced. Came here for high tea with a friend! We had a nice time but the place seemed packed and busy, and our wait staff interaction was very limited and the atmosphere just felt underwhelming as a result. They didn't even share with us what we were given to eat or anything about what kind of tea they gave us. It seemed like because we didn't have a drink to start they basically gave up on us after that. The food and the tea were fine, and we had a decent experience overall but I think we will likely try somewhere else next time. read more

We started with the ESCARGOT, then I had the SOLE W/ CRAB and she had the mixed grill consisting of SALMON, MAHI MAHI, and SHRIMP then we shared a CREME BRULEE for dessert. Escargots à la Bourguignonne These drops of heavenly delight come with fragrance, bread and happiness. I suggest taking a snail and putting it on a small piece of bread, enjoy that bite, then dip the remaining bread into the remaining olive oil/garlic/parmesan mixture and enjoy that, then repeat. You could order one of these for the table. Or just order one for yourself...... Filet de Sole et Chair de Crabe Filet de Sole w/ Crab! OH MY it was splendid, from the great presentation to the smooth cream sauce, to the perfectly cooked sole then with the nice, light touch of real crab right on top. Divine and delicious - well worth it and I finished every. last. bite. Yum Creme Brulee a la Lavande The Creme Brulee is quite tasty - a very nice custard that is setup without too much egg, is smooth and creamy but thick enough to really get into. Bonjour! I came here for the first time on Friday for lunch and had a wonderful experience. Although there was a slight wait to be seated, the rest of my time here was prompt and pleasant. It was Restaurant Week in which Lavendou offered a $24 3-course pre fixe meal. I ordered the duck liver terrine' (pate') appetizer, the salmon en croute', and the creme brule' for Restaurant Week, and added the escargot as an extra treat. The meal was very good, especially the escargot. They were excellent and well worth the trip! The salmon en croute' was also very good and well prepared, as well as the creme brule'. Although the terrine' was ok, I was not a fan. The complimentary bread was also fresh and soft and went really well with the escargot sauce. My server was very friendly and efficient. Although he was the server for many tables in my section, he was very attentive. The restaurant itself is very cute and homey. I will definitely be back again to Lavendou and look forward to trying more of the menu. read more
