[[HIGHLIGHT]]Open early and plenty of seating inside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Black Bear Diner we like more than Denny's but started loving non-franchise places like Bill's Cafe. It's located on Blacow and Mowry and the parking lot is huge. The pros are staff is super professional though we have noticed turnover rate is higher than some of the other local spots so it's hard to get to know people first name basis. The food is also well cooked and the bacon and sausage in particular have unique characteristics in size and taste that make them a bit more ownable. Breakfast Burrito: Chorizo sausage, country potatoes, scrambled eggs, cheddar cheese, red onion & cilantro. Served with homemade salsa & fresh fruit. A HUGE burrito for $16 the ingredients are evenly;y distributed inside so you get a little in every bite. 2 Egg Classic Breakfast: The bacon is thick cut and the sausage is slightly smaller than at other places but I think its seasoned better. The worst part is the hashbrowns, they had a bit of crunchy char layer but some of it was undercooked and it falls apart if you try cutting it and picking it up.

We ate at Black Bear Diner today. I had the French toast, my daughter had the mini volcano pancakes, I also had the mini volcano but the adult version, and my husband had the BLT. Overall, the food was okay. I personally didn't like the French toast, but the pancakes are always on point, no complaints there. Service was great as usual. As we were leaving, I noticed the pies. I've never tried their pies before, so I asked the cashier, Lisette, if she'd ever had Nation's Giant Hamburgers pies. She said yes and mentioned she likes their lemon meringue, but if Black Bear Diner had it, she wouldn't even go to Nation's. She pointed at the apple pies and asked if I wanted to try it, and she let me sample it. When I tell you she was right... she was RIGHT. The difference is their pie isn't overly sweet like Nation's. It has a nice tang and tastes like real, fresh apples. That apple pie is delicious. Honestly, I hate that she let me try it because now I'm addicted.

Surprisingly for an early Mother's Day breakfast, service wasn't too bad. I've had worst service on non major holiday from other places. There was only one host and he was doing triple duty: greeting, seating and serving. We got our drinks with partial items missing: vanilla creamer for coffee and waters. Food did come out a bit longer than usual but when they did come out, it was good. It wasn't cold or had any missing items. The side of fruits were the last to arrive which was interesting. We all enjoyed our food. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The Mother's Day decor at the front is a great addition.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restroom has a horrible sewage odor.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Came in today for breakfast to give this location another chance. We were seated immediately since it was very slow and hardly any customers. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Upon entering I noticed the carpet was clean and it smelled clean unlike my last visit.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Our host and waitress were friendly and welcoming. Service was quick and the food was hot. Definitely an upgrade from my last experience. Will be back again.

This location seems to have gone through a few owners. There's plenty of parking. We recently went back again and I was nervous about how it would be. Happy to say it was better than I expected. I would probably go back. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Typical diner. I didn't realize they're open 24 hours![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]We went late so there wasn't many people there.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Server was really nice. We had a large group and she was still pretty attentive. Their taco salad is gigantic. You have to share that. The other dishes are typical diner size that you'd expect to see.

It's been years since I've been here. I remember loving their pancakes. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I feel like this place in particular is bigger and more open than most diners.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I ordered their pancakes with a side of egg. The pancakes tasted a bit off. I had to drench my pancakes with syrup and butter to cover this weird taste and to give it flavor. The egg though was perfect. Can't go wrong with a sunny side up egg. Our waitress though was super attentive and nice. Not sure if I'll be coming back. But it was nice giving them another try.

I'm a bit of a vampire so this morning I came in at 4 AM. Do you see yourself after a few minutes? That server will come assist you. It seems they're still busy with online orders as although it's a big restaurant and there's no one there except maybe three small tables. The server seemed pretty busy still. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place, definitely reminds me of old school American dining with a gigantic menu and too many offerings, but in a nice vintage kind of way.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I can eat a lot of food so I opted for their bowl special which I just realized I forgot to take a photo of my receipt, but it has a long fun name and it seems to be their special dish. I did find the white gravy to be a bit unseasoned which some people may enjoy. As a former server of Texas roadhouse I'm a big fan of their white and gray gravy second only to Jollibee's gravy lol. Some salt and pepper did just fine for myself with a little bit of hot sauce. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It felt like a very clean establishment.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service was pretty great for 4:30 in the morning. And you gotta keep these 24 hour shops alive and as far as service food and beyond go, I had a great breakfast.

    Breakfast.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Good diner experience, fun cabin feel when you walk in.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Was greeted and sat right away, our server Fern was really nice, she turned on a movie for our daughter and checked on us often. On the table they have really good hot sauces! Food is delicious and they give nice big portions, prices are really good! Got some dessert on our way out which is a good deal if you buy two you get the third for 99cents which they have the best chocolate pie!

My family and I decided to go here for breakfast on Christmas Day. I'm glad that they open until 7pm. Many people came here since this diner is one of those that open during that day. Most restaurants are closed on that day. The place is nicely decorated with Christmas decorations. They give us a unique menu during the holidays. I wanted to try their Peppermint Hot Chocolate, but unfortunately they ran out. Just got coffee instead. Coffee is now $3.99 right now. I guess that inflation just hit the window right before 2025. The Joe Hobo's Omelette is very huge and got full! Very good portion of bacon and sausage inside of it and not like only a few pieces. To many Fremont residents, I recommend you come to this place since they usually open during the holidays (also opens 24/7). Merry Christmas!

California Omelette (avocado, mushrooms, jack cheese) with a side of Hash Browns and Sourdough Toast.
    Leah A.

Dined here on a Wednesday afternoon around 2 PM. We were the only patrons in the restaurant when we arrived. We were seated right away. They serve Pepsi products, so we ordered a couple of soft drinks and late breakfast. The California Omelette was filled with mushrooms and Jack cheese, topped with a fan of avocado. The mushrooms were cooked nicely, not too overcooked. Definitely the choice for mushroom lovers. The avocado was ripe and bright green without a trace of brown. They offer house made hot sauce themed after the children's tale "Goldilocks and the Three Bears". After trying them all, I determined the original "Baby Bear" was just right and elevated the flavor of my omelette and hashbrowns. The hashbrowns and sourdough toast were well done. Three jelly options were available to choose from at the table. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The music was a mixture of country and alternative rock.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The bear themed artwork is beginning to fade from sun exposure.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]It feels like a cozy, nostalgic diner.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Oddly, the parking lot appearred to be full despite surrounding businesses not being too busy. I suspect the area may be a popular park and go destination due to its proximity to the freeway entrance?

New York Steak & Eggs* (690-750 cals.)
    Francesca B.

Was quickly seated during Christmas Day. Kitchen was a bit packed so food came a little longer than it usually would, but it didn't ruin the experience for me. I ordered the New York Strip Steak and Eggs which came with country potatoes, as well as a hot coffee. I asked for a medium rare for the steak but it came out as medium, which I'm not too picky about, however, unfortunately the steak was bland as well as the eggs and country potatoes. I had to add a hefty amount of salt and pepper to get a good taste out of it. I still finished my meal, however I don't think steak and eggs is something I'd get at Black Bear Diner. The portions were fair, however a cup of coffee was $4! Very high price but you do get a fairly decent size. The place was clean and cozy, and the service was polite! I would come back here again to try more of their breakfast items as I believe Black Bear Diner probably excels more in that area.

Bob's Big Bear Burger* (1290 cals.), Lemonade (280 cals.), Ice Cream (150-180 cals.)

Came back with a couple of friends for the first time in years after a night shift around 4 AM. We were surprisingly not the only diners in the restaurant but were seated immediately. Black Bear's shtick is a log cabin feel, an aesthetic that is evident as you walk past their bear and camping themed merchandise setup to your table. $20 for an average burger and a cup of chili felt like a little much, and the strawberry lemonade recommended by the server was ridiculously sweet and artificial tasting. Luckily ended on a good note with a scoop of huckleberry ice cream, but otherwise probably will resort to fast food if I find myself hungry at that hour again.

My French toast (two halves) was the standard Sysco or Krusteaz, but nicely griddled on the flat top, and eggs and bacon were done right. I also ordered a single pancake because I like crispy pancake edges and generally leave the pancake middle (admittedly, this is not normal behavior). This time I basically left the whole pancake. Will have to come back and try the lunch items. Service was wonderful, and not just to me (I was very impressed with the server's patience as this elderly woman tried to brag that she was "fluent" in Spanish and wanted to order and converse in a language for which she did not have the words for things like "decaf," "another plate," or "check." Her Spanglish had me rolling my eyes internally but the server was kind, supplied all the missing words, and played along.).

I've probably ordered that exact combination over a thousand times, and Country Way in Fremont makes it better than anyone. The bacon is thick-cut, generously portioned, and cooked exactly the way I like it--crispy without being burnt. The country fried potatoes were outstanding--crispy and golden on the outside, yet soft and almost creamy on the inside. They're the kind of breakfast potatoes that are so good you end up finishing every last bite. The staff is warm and friendly, making the place feel like a neighborhood institution rather than just another breakfast spot. One thing I also love is the building itself. Country Way is housed in a wonderfully preserved vintage A-frame that feels like a trip back to a different era. Instead of chasing trendy, it embraces its history, and that charm is part of the experience. If you judge a breakfast restaurant by how well it executes the classics, Country Way absolutely nails it. Sometimes simple food, done exceptionally well, is the hardest thing to find

If you want to eat at a place that has good quality and a big enough portion to either share or take home for leftovers then this is the place to go. There were some notable things that we stumbled across in our dining experience. I had noticed that one of the utensils wasn't washed properly so there was a dried up piece of vegetable or something stuck on it. Also I requested my burger to be cooked medium but when I received my order, it was more so well done with no pink in the middle. One of the two pork chop was cooked great, while the other was a little dry and chewy. Regardless, these were things that didn't warrant calling over a server. The thing that mainly put a stain for our restaurant outing at Skillet'z was the service. Upon walking in we were not greeted with a friendly welcoming and when seated they quickly walked away. The lady who took our order did not even look like she wanted to be there, granted I understand that nobody really enjoys having to go to work but if you need to interact with customers, maybe this isn't the occupation for you. While we were eating there was not a single time that anyone came up to us to ask us how we were doing, if we needed anything, or how the food was. There was a moment where it was someone's birthday at another table and I don't think I've ever heard a more unenthusiastic and monotone announcement for a birthday and a lame excuse for a birthday song. They're not going to bother with dropping off a check/bill for the meal so you need to go up to the counter to pay for the food. Once you step up to the counter keep in mind that more than likely you will encounter a rude interaction and a feeling that you were inconveniencing them. Overall I'll more than likely eat from here again, primarily for the food. But maybe next time we'll consider just taking out to go.

Indoor and outdoor seating both available. Came by for a Saturday lunch and they said the food will take ~45 mins. They were very grateful for our patience and even threw in a plate of sweet pork longanisa on the house for the wait! We shared the pork adobo island d-lite and the Hawaiian char siu chicken burrito. I really enjoyed the pork adobo, it had melt in mouth texture and great flavorful and went really well with the garlic rice. The Hawaiian char siu chicken burrito was good too but I liked the pork adobo plate more. The service was wonderful and they really make you feel at home. Very kind folks, definitely come support them!

The original management seems to be back and I am so happy there is an authentic Filipino breakfast spot to come back to. My husband and I both really enjoyed our tocino silog with garlic rice and 2 perfect fried eggs. I really enjoyed the tomato and the spice vinegar along side it. The portions are great, and we left with to-go boxes. Really enjoyed the equator coffee as well. We will be back, and look forward to trying the homemade corned beef. Thank you East Bay Cafe Depot! So glad you are part of the Fremont Community.

No lines and no crowds on a rainy day morning with plenty of available parking spots in the huge lot. Nothing attractive on the outside in this old popular plaza. The place turned out great with the old fashioned retro red color style interior and the experience was wonderful. Good vibes and positive feelings when walking into it. My lady server provided excellent service and the Hispanic male worker was quick and efficient. Place is clean and menu had good variety of selections. Breakfast is served all day while lunch items start at 11am. My breakfast was very fulfilling and total was $25.30 with everything included. I paid in cash and tipped them $5. Loved my sweet lady server. There was another older woman at the cash register. She's a local as well. I really enjoyed the stop. I had the Fajitas Omelette breakfast and the steak meats in it were very generous. Delicious breakfast exactly as I had expected. My onions green peppers potatoes were perfect with a side of salsa. Sourdough toast was delicious with the garlic butter taste. I really came for my favorite hot chocolate with whipped cream in the morning. I do miss big American breakfasts, especially in these old fashioned and traditional retro spots. Love it. Why didn't I visit this place much earlier? Because they're always busy or full inside and the plaza parking is usually congested with heavy traffic here. Overall, I love the vibes and the service. It's one of those places where you can just have normal casual conversations with the staffs working inside if you are open to it. Beautiful diner. Yes, I will be revisiting in the future. If you love huge food portions, there's great value here. One plate can easily be shared between two people. Nice.

After we ordered our food, I switched ketchup bottles with the table next to mine because I wanted a fuller bottle, and the fat lady worker scolds me - "hey don't just put an empty bottle on another table" with a snarky attitude. Hey you trashy haired lady, I don't work here, don't tell me what to do. Most of the workers are nice but that old bag had some self-righteous attitude. Seen it a few times before too, with her gross ass make up. If you're so concerned about the ketchup bottles why don't you do your own damn job and make sure they're full, you lazy cow. She kind of ruined my meal, but I'm glad to hear other people complain about her rude behavior. She's probably a miserable sack of potatoes that's mad at herself because she doesn't know how to put down the fork.
