Le Diplomate Café is a treasure at UTC and in my UCI alumni relatives' hearts! I was countlessly recommended their Chicken Mushroom Broccoli sandwich and it was delicious. The garlic sauce binds the ingredients together well. They split the 9 inch sandwich and half is already filling! I cannot wait to have it for my lunch tomorrow. My friends had the Vietnamese banh mi inspired sandwiches and Turkey Supreme, but we agreed that the C.M.B. was the best one. It's a cute little cafe, not much space inside for seating but plenty outside. We came in just before rush hour and were greeted with a helpful cashier. Honestly, I eat here for nostalgia's sake - I've been eating here since my sister attended college at UCI many moons ago. In fact I have never deviated from my first order: chicken, broccoli, mushroom with garlic sauce ($7.49 for a full sandwich). It is so damn good for what it's worth. They use a flat baguette. I was first introduced to Le Dip when I attended UCI and there is a reason they are still here! To die for garlic sauce, yummy toasted sandwiches, and super affordable! Le Dip is located in the University Center (a collection of stores, markets, restaurants) literally right across from UCI. It is a small quaint shop that gives off warm vibes once you step in. The good: 1. Garlic Sauce - In most of their hot sandwiches, they use this amazing garlic sauce. It makes everything taste good. I always ask for extra on the side. You are welcome :) 2. Chicken Dijon (hot) - If you love artichokes and chicken, you will love this. The warm toasted bread and garlic sauce brings out the full flavor of the artichoke and chicken! Le Diplomate Cafe, or Le Dip as lovingly known by UCI students, is a great spot for a sandwich. I've visited this shop for several years now, so I've had the chance to try different menu items. Today I ordered the French Connection which is a delicious Brie and Roast Beef sandwich, but it is a little bit small considering the price. The last time I ordered this particular sandwich, I was barely given one slice of roast beef, so despite it being delicious, I was a little bit disappointed. Another menu item I love is any sandwich with their garlic sauce! It tastes amazing on a hot sandwich, and it becomes something that you crave. These sandwiches aren't extremely cheap anymore like how prices were before, but I am hooked on the flavor and find myself coming back again and again. The portion is still decent, so as long as I'm not starving I feel full and satisfied after! Love ordering the full size and having enough for 2 meals! My favorite is the chicken, broccoli & mushroom sandwich but I'm sure they're all great. I prefer getting the garlic sauce .. you can even ask for extra on the side. The veggies are always soft, chicken cooked perfectly and the bread not tough. The staff is always very friendly and orders are prepared quickly. I always call my order in and it's ready in 10 minutes or less (by the time I drive over, basically). Le Dip was one of my regular lunch spots when I was a student at UCI. It hasn't changed in the ten years since I graduated. It's just as good as I remember. I've been coming here for YEARS! This is a small but very tasty spot that I continue to enjoy coming back to even years after graduating from UCI. It's located in the middle of the University Town Center, across from the tower. They offer a variety of different sandwiches, but my favorites have been: Chicken Dijon, Chicken Garlic, and the Chicken/Broccoli/Mushroom with garlic sauce. Add sriracha to kick it up a notch! This definitely has a more to-go vibe, and with so much outdoor seating the plaza, I've rarely had a need to eat at the shop, but there are a few tables available if that's more your vibe. Staff are generally helpful, with few issues. Price is pretty reasonable for a meal, but can be a little on the pricy end considering a college student budget. i used to work right next to le diplomate years and years ago at a spa that is sadly no longer there. but i remember getting croissant sandwiches and their famous garlic chicken constantly. my bf was craving sandwiches so we went to le dip since he's never had. i ordered the garlic chicken since it's been years since i've been here and my bf ordered the mushroom broccoli garlic chicken. we both got a combo which comes with chips and a drink. totaled out to ~$25 i believe (he paid and i didn't pay attention LOL). for a whole sandwich, chips, and a drink (times 2), the price is GREAT. the garlic chicken is still as good as i remembered it. and eating it with the hot sauce they provide is a MUST. le dip is a uci staple and the price/value is perfect for a broke college student. read more

Despite going to UCI for awhile, I haven't really eaten here. But it was pretty good and I think I should've started earlier! It's a pretty good alternative to banh mi (and they have some on the menu too). I liked the garlic chicken because I don't tend to eat a lot of vegetables and this one came without any.
