Am in Albuquerque for a little vacation and found this gem of a restaurant within a 10 walk from my hotel. It's a small corner place with 11 tables all with white table cloths. It looks like the only workers are two wait persons and a French speaking chef. The menu has about 6 appetizers and 8-10 entrees plus 4-5 evening specials. I went without a reservation but was easily accommodated. I had a delicious and large beet salad - red and yellow beets, tomatoes, goat cheese, and the rack of lamb - 4 nice pieces cooked perfectly at medium. It all went well with a nice French Pinot noir. I went early and by the time I left at about 8pm the restaurant was full. I highly recommend it! read more

Great service and ambiance but the food was lacking. Lobster bisque was terrible but the French onion soup was good. Main meals seemed very salty. I was not crazy about Le Troquet and I really wanted to love it. I've been spoiled by visiting Paris many times; perhaps my expectations were a little too high. read more

A diamond in the rough. It's a really cute corner bistro in downtown. The place is tiny so even without social distancing the seating is limited, but intimate and reminiscent of an old French bistro. The food was pretty tasty and our waitress was very nice. Due to social distancing, only about 5 parties of 2 could be seated. I couldn't help but notice that when Chef, presumably also the owner, came out to greet patrons, he neglected to approach the only two tables who were non-white. Coincidence or not, this is the time for businesses to be more self-aware. I certainly plan give this establishment another chance because I support local businesses anytime I can. Today was my second time here, not as good as the first time but ok. The bisque was watery and grainy absent was the cream and a nugget of lobster. The rolls were in the oven too long, too overdone on the crust. The Steak was ok but lukewarm to chilled, the pork dish was ok, the Duchess potatoes were really good as were the fresh vegetables. Presentation of the pork dish was gloppy but apparently very good in flavor. The crème brullie was ok with the berries on top but the dollops of whipped topping was over the top and too sweet. I can say that the service was great and the place was clean. It is so nice to eat at a place that has crisp white tablecloths. I will definitely come back for more. read more

Although pricey, I have had some very god food at this cozy restaurant and recommend it with reservation. Recently I had scheduled my book club for our December lunch a 11:30. When arrived ten minutes early the two members from S Fe were standing out in the cold. The manager would no let them in because they were early. I have been going to Le Troquet for 20 years, often was the only patron there for lunch during COVID, and I have never known the owner, Jean Pierre, to be rude or inhospitable. Not so with the present manager. We ate our lunch, members ordering a mixed price range of modest, their very nice onion soup, to quite pricey, the seafood crepes, admittedly filled with tasty shrimp and scallops; amounting to a price mix, however, also throwing in the likes of lamb cutlets, not easily divisible by us nine. The bill came to me as one total. I asked the manager for separate checks, a request he declined quite emphatically on grounds that once in the register, the entry and its amount could not be changed. Of course, like most restaurants, he would have had to go around and calculate each order separately. It's done all the time, every day, in every city in the United States. One simply asks at the beginning, Will this be separate check? So far it's only laziness and bad management. The kicker however was the story about the register, as I have yet to see a modern register on which one cannot cancel a sale. Well after several counts and recounts, members throwing an additional Five or Ten here and there to make up the correct amount and tip, we finally got the math squared away. As I gave the amount to the manager I repeated that "separate checks?" should have been asked at the beginning, when the orders were taken. The response was not courteous accommodation but rude attitude. So, by all means, enjoy the mussels, the onion soup, the scallops (my favorite for 20 years), just make sure your out of town guests meeting you there do not arrive a bit early; they may be asked to stand outside in the cold despite the restaurant being empty. And should you run into "technical" difficulties with the register, remind the management--gently!--that sales entries can be cancelled. It happens even in the best of restaurants. Speaking of best, I recommend the creme brulee, as good as anywhere on two continents. read more

We started with the baked Brie special - it came in two portions, a smart plating - it came with fresh blueberries, a smear of blueberry jam and a couple sections of grapefruit, served with toasted baguette. Delicious of course. Kid ordered sole milanese because she cannot resist capers. It looked delicious but alas I'm not a fish person. I ordered filet en croute with duxelles, also delicious. If I'm being very picky my meat was slightly overdone. Came with asparagus, thinly sliced cooked carrots, roasted potatoes which were excellent, and a baked Parmesan tomato. We ended the meal with crème brûlée, delicious if not overtly vanilla-y. Service was impeccable. The lunch menu looks delicious, will have to come back! read more

Food and ambience were undermined by a waiter who was overtaxed And impatient. The wine list was not presented and we were told it was limited because of a busy weekend. This was Thursday. He brought the only heavier red in offing, a Malbec that was mediocre. He subsequently plunked 3 bottles on the table and told us they were priced $90, $120 and $150. Incredibly rude. The food was very good, with an interesting menu, but will it not remark on it here because it was overshadowed by our experience. This was a birthday dinner that could have been fabulous. read more

The outside facade of this business is reminiscent of a bistro imported directly from the streets of Paris. Upon entering you are momentarily transported to that magical city. A lesson learned is that you always want to ask for the menu of the day, it is rewarding in France and it is rewarding here as well. I tried this place out for my birthday and I couldn't have made a better choice. We tried all kinds starting with duck liver pâté, pickled herring, frog legs, and roasted duck breast. They included a courtesy chocolate mousse dessert for my birthday. Once more, I highly recommend the menu of the day, it's a must. read more

One of my favorite restaurants in Albuquerque. The restaurant is a bit on the smaller side, which gives off a more intimate ambiance. I've been here twice and had the same waitress both times- I wish I could remember her name because she was truly exceptional, and made us feel welcome both times. Appetizers we tried included the frog legs and escargot. Escargot was very flavorful the way that it was seasoned, and I was surprised that I enjoyed it, being somewhat squeamish. The frog legs tasted very light, I don't know that I would get it again. The entrees always come with a side of roasted vegetables and either rice or potatoes. The rack of lamb was probably my favorite, it was very tender and delicious. I would recommend that to anyone who has not been here before. The duck was the special they had for the past month, which was another favorite, although I'm not sure how long it will stay on the menu. Came on a Saturday both times without reservation and had no problem being seated. There was a musician singing in the restaurant one of the times, my only complaint is that the volume was a bit too loud for such small quarters- it made it difficult to carry on a conversation. I found the prices to be very reasonable for the quality of the food. Highly recommend this restaurant! read more

Somehow this place has been here since 2014 and I missed it. I used to come when it was cafe miche but clearly it's been a while. The decor is the same but the food was amazing. I had the salmon which was cooked just right and served with a nice variety of vegetables and a dijonaise that was just the right level of tangy to pair perfectly. The soup of the day was also amazing. If you're looking for a well done and well presented french meal that won't break the bank definitely check this place out. This is a place close to our hearts because I took my husband out on a date here on one of our mini celebrations! He has always talked about wanting to try out the best French food having been influenced by it a lot during his childhood. He got frog legs, french onion soup and all kinds of amazing dishes that I am not even going to begin to pronounce/spell (the scallop dish is in particular very memorable). He was blown away! I am more drawn to vegetarian food and just remember this may not have many veg options especially during COVID times. I think they have more options on the website pertaining to the pre-COVID era and I hope they bring that back in the future. However, I've had the salad and gorged on their bread and also stole (with some permission) my husband's bread and it is amazing!! And have also had their creme brulee which is some of the best in town. It comes very close to a homemade one. You know that the custard is fresh and wasn't chilling in the freezer for a week or something which is the feeling I get with most of the creme brulee I've had in other restaurants. I normally don't review restaurants when I can't eat most of the dishes. BUT this was an exception given how I've seen our family gravitate towards it. Also, we did get some of our extended family here once which includes a bonafide Frenchman who turns out knows the amazing chef and owner of this place! Wow. There is so much that I found wonderful about my experience here. The frog legs were lightly battered but was not overdone. The flavor and texture of the frog legs came through with every bite. The scallops were one of the specials this evening. I rarely use absolutes but they were perfectly prepared. The char provided a caramelized glazed that only enhanced the flavor. This is my second time to this French inspired restaurant nestled between Barelas and downtown, and you can expect to run into the mayor there. Escargot & frog legs are available, but I'm just not personally ready. You definitely need a reservation because they only have 8 tables. Intimate and quaint and highly recommended for a nice night out. Closes thing to France that you can get in the 505. We loved their fish and portions. My favorite intimate spot in ABQ. A great place to celebrate a special occasion or have a long leisurely lunch with a glass or two of wine. Great wine list and amazing menu that features true French cooking techniques. From the crispy oven baked bread filled with melted butter to the chocolate mousse. Every single course is a delight. If you can't get to Paris for a meal, go to Le Troquet. The atmosphere--penny tile floors and lace curtains in the window--made me feel transported to my trips abroad. Staff is knowledgeable, friendly and attentive. Whenever friends visit from New York or Europe, I always make a point to take them here for a meal. I ate at this couple's restaurant when it was by the movie theater on I-25 and Jefferson. They moved to this location about five years ago, and the new location has much more character, and best for me, it's much closer to home. The bread was excellent. The house red wine was excellent, for my taste. The sole and the sea scallops were both excellent entrees. The side vegetables were excellent. And the creme brûlée was excellent to finish things off. When you enter you're greeted immediately and feel welcomed. The service and food was excellent! Ashley was our server and he was very pleasant and friendly and attentive. I started with the escargot and was very good, just ask for extra bread for dipping. Then I had the veal scallopini, which was a special, and it was very good. My dinner companions had the onion soup, the cold potato leak soup and one had the strip bass special and the other had the mussels and everyone loved their meal. For appetizers, she ordered the Onion Soup and I ordered the Calamari; she said the onion soup was one of the best she ever tasted, and my calamari was mouth-watering in a tasty creamy sauce. For entrees, she ordered the Filet En Croute and I ordered the Trout Amandine. Her well-crusted filet was super tender and delicious, with a surprising layer of pate that provided an unexpected but well-balanced flavor. My trout amandine was perfectly cooked - but it was swimming in too much almond butter sauce that was rich and velvety but overwhelming the delicate flavor of the fish; I just moved my fish aside. The vegetable sides on both dishes were perfectly cooked. For dessert, we shared a Profiteroles - it was a sinfully delightful treat. The ambience was very cozy and romantic, service was excellent, and prices were reasonable for such high quality of food. Very highly recommended, even though the tables are close together. read more

I had high hopes for this place but overall it was a disappointing experience. I think the head chef/owner and a server weren't there the night I dined in. They were nice enough to seat me and my girlfriend without a reservation on a Saturday night. I definitely wouldn't try to eat there again without a reservation. The service wasn't very attentive for the prices, I'm not sure if that was due to staff shortage or our age (30) thinking we might not tip well. There were about 3 tables per server. Our water glasses were empty for most of the night which made for a thirsty dining experience. The atmosphere is great but the food was not. Portions were good. We both had the steak and fries. The steak ($28) was cooked to a nice medium rare but was very chewy. Fries were fresh and hot. We had the cheese and prosciutto to start which was nice but only ~3 slices of prosciutto. There was a good amount of cheese plus grapes, apple slices, and walnuts. I had a glass of the house Cabernet which I wouldn't order again. I would try this place again for lunch with a reservation hopefully when the head chef/owner is there. The two steaks, appetizer, and glass of wine came out to $90.
