This group clearly cares and thinks a lot about how each ingredient will effect the final dish. I had the 44 Farms Steak Salad which was refreshingly balanced with sweet pickled onions cutting through the heavier avocado (that I added) and blue cheese. The bacon added a nice crunch alongside the romaine and the steak was truly delicious and well cooked! I had high expectations for this new restaurant and it exceeded on every level. A side note on the horseradish vinaigrette which I was unsure about having (who puts horseradish in a vinaigrette?) and was planning to substitute out with the lemon shallot vinaigrette. The staff surprised me by suggesting I sample their dressings like you do at a bar trying new craft beers. Turns out the horseradish vinaigrette dressing was awesome! It is a salad you think should come from the Coronado Club in three minutes in an eco friendly disposable container. I recommend the common table. OMG I found vegan food in a mall! This place is literally a hidden gem. I was attending a conference at the convention center and needed a nearby vegan friendly options. I was pleasantly surprised by Leaf & Grain. It is located on the third floor of the mall. The space is small but has modern decor. I decided to order the vegan grain bowl, which was amazing. It comes with tofu and you can add avocado (extra fee). Unfortunately they were out of avocado when I was there but the manager/owner explained the situation. Also the manager/owner questioned why I was taking photos, which I explained. Afterwards he provided me some information about the bowl. If you've ever been to True Food Kitchen in Houston, this place is a Chipotle style version of it at a great price. My first time coming here, I got greeted by who I assume to either be the manager or the owner and he happily explained everything on the menu to me. I'm a meat eater, but there are a lot of vegetarian options on the menu. Everything is locally sourced and high attention to ingredient quality. My first time I tried the Common Table: brown rice, kale, brussel sprouts, almonds, apples, goat cheese with a very light honey white balsamic vinaigrette. I was recommended this since it was their most sold item, and I can see why. Great balance of flavors and very light but filling lunch. You can ask for light, medium, or heavy dressing. I chose light with some on the side, which was perfect to add more as I saw fit. Second time around I tried their Blue Sky: arugula, brown rice, avocado, bean sprouts, carrots, cucumber, and chicken. This one was definitely lighter than the common table, but just as filling. The green goddess dressing was a creamy green sauce that paired well with the rest of the ingredients. For people watching macros, this place is terrific. You're able to hit your macros (proteins/carbs/fat) if you're on a cut or maintaining. Also, they load it the bowls with a lot of veggies to hit micros as well as capitalizing on volume. Volume is what fills you up without indulging in too many heavy carbs or proteins and this place nailed it. Their options of how much dressing is also a terrific way to limit fat content in the meal as well. I recommend getting light dressing with extra on the side to add more as you like. read more

This is a GREAT new addition to the shops. The only two healthy places for a long time were Salata and Freshii and you can only eat there so many times. The ingredients here are really fresh (they even chop the egg in front of you for the Cobb salad). I will definitely be making this a regular place in my lunch rotation. But I do have two really small recommendations: 1. Put nutrition information on your website. As someone with a pretty restricted diet, it would be so helpful to have all of this information at my disposal instead of having to ask about every new thing I want to try. Especially since this is all about healthy eating, I think all patrons would appreciate this! 2. And way less important... When you wait in line and make your salad at the storefront, they mix it up with the dressing and everything is so perfectly distributed. But when you order a salad to go, they put all of the toppings on top so you can see what has been added. This is a really pretty presentation, but it makes mixing your salad really hard! So I would recommend either offering the option to mix the salad at the store (though that would take some extra time) or put the to go salads in a slightly larger container. This is my absolute favorite lunch place. I work in the offices above the Park Shops and only eat out one time per week and always always pick Leaf & Grain even though there are tons of other restaurants. Every thing I've ever ordered from Leaf & Grain is yummy and fresh and delicious. I order online so I can just pick it up without waiting because sometimes the lines are out the door but even if you have to wait, it's worth it. Employees are amazing - the menu is seasonal so when it changed recently, I popped in to ask for recommendations and got so much advice and attention. I can't say enough good things. My only hesitation in writing this is it's so busy already, I don't want them to get overwhelmed with popularity and lose their good quality ingredients and combinations. I eat lunch here every time I get the chance and I always notice the owner himself standing in line engaging with customers. Employees also truly care about customers. I swear they know the name of every single customer that regularly comes in. They even remember your regular order! I would honestly choose Leaf & Grain over Salata any day for this reason. I love supporting local businesses like Leaf and Grain because, as I have already explained, they care and the quality of their ingredients is far superior to businesses. Their meat is amazing. The tofu is non-GMO, the chicken is antibiotic free and the steak is from 44 farms. My favorite protein option is definitely their citrus shrimp. I try to eat mostly pescatarian and it is often hard to find restaurants that cater to my dietary habits. Leaf & Grain has options for everyone. The most important note that I have is about the salad dressings. They make all of their dressings in house and it really shows. Each dressing is perfectly paired with its corresponding salad or grain bowl. They are constantly tweaking their dressing recipes to make sure they are the best that they possibly can. Her only note was the kale was in giant pieces (I agreed, it was larger than bite sized). Veges were nice and fresh. And you can see them all as you order. (to verify freshness). The menu at L&G is incredibly varied and can fulfill any desires. The seasonal rotation of the menu also allows L&G's incredibly talented chef to experiment with the menu. These seasonal salads are some of my favorites on the menu. The customer service at L&G is always top notch as well. Our office was so excited for a healthy lunch place in walking distance. I think we ordered lunch here three times the first week it opened. The employees are SO friendly. It's a bit pricey, especially if you want to build your own, but it's easy to substitute items. There are many ingredients to choose from, all good quality. I do wish the steak wasn't cooked so "well," but I understand lots of people get freaked out by undercooked meat. The last time we came here, my boss ordered the Mediterranean bowl for take out and they forgot his olives - his favorite part! He didn't realize it until we got back to the office. I work on the opposite side of downtown, but I make the trek here 3 days a week. I do it because there is not another place downtown that can match the quality of Leaf & Grain. The variety on their menu provides healthy options for the full spectrum of diets and appetites. It's very tasty as well. I've easily come here over 100 times, but today is the day I am writing a review. Today, all of Houston is flooding. Understandably, over half of their staff needed to go home for the day. Of course, that didn't stop the daily line of customers from forming outside their door. Their next door neighbor; commercial giant, Starbucks had shut down operations for the day. Not L&G. I've been purchasing salads from Leaf and Grain several times a week, every week for the past year and a half. It's really nice to have a healthy dining option in the Park Shops. It's my go-to lunch spot. They deliver a quality product. The salads and grain bowls are large and filling. The menu is creative and everything is very fresh. I just tried their catering service for the first time a few weeks ago. Murray took great care of me and couldn't have made the ordering process any easier. She was very detailed and made sure the order was perfect when I picked up. I was able to send her an email with all of our orders and she made sure each salad was labeled with the recipient's name. They offer sandwiches for catering orders which I'd like to try sometime. I highly recommend Leaf and Grain for both individual and group orders. It is healthy, fast and fresh. read more
