I had decided I would try the Common Table. As I watched the dish coming together my mouth began to water. Especially when generous portions of Brussels sprouts, apples and chicken were added to a bed of kale. Goat cheese and almonds brought the dish full circle. I've eaten here several times, tried three items of the menu and was overall very happy. Their veggie boost still my fave. The Mediterranean bowl was also pretty good. The Thai bowl was ok, the tofu was super salty and almost inedible but the rest of the bowl was good. There is some inconsistency in what medium level of dressing means but I'm sure it will work itself out. They are pricey but no less so than the other salad place. I work downtown, and L&G is simply the best option for healthy delicious food. It's just the right amount in terms of proportions, and has solid protein options. They're constantly keeping the menu fresh, but you can always build you own too. Love going there, and best of all it's locally owned and sources a lot from the nearby area. read more

Located on the top floor of the Park Shops, by the front elevator. Took me a bit to find it! I got The Alamo. It was a well designed dish of some of my favorite items, and they blended together well. The dressing may have been a bit heavy (I got a medium amount), as I felt it in my stomach for a while. There was a bit too much kale in there for me to call it a "grain bowl". Found it a tad pricey for an everyday lunch item ($11), but I'll probably swing by every now and then for a healthy and filling lunch. Beats most of the salad places you'll find downtown. The best thing about this place has to be their dressings - so many to choose from and so delicious. I eat here 2-3 times a week and I'm never disappointed. My salad was SO good. I got the Power Boost and I really enjoyed it. The portion size was perfect, everything was cooked right and blended together nicely, and the option to choose the amount of dressing was awesome. I've eaten at multiple salad places along the east coast, but I honestly like L&G more than the others. They really crushed it and are definitely setting the bar high. I have been eating at Leaf and Grain fairly consistently since it first opened a few weeks ago, and absolutely love it. Leaf & Grain is a much needed addition to the Shops at Houston Center. When you work downtown, the typical food court restaurants get old quickly, but if you have an early work day or have to commute, making your own lunch can be a hassle. Leaf & Grain is the perfect option for me when I can't get my brought-from-home lunch together. Leaf & Grain is my go-to lunch place downtown for several reasons: 1. The dressings are homemade. Thus far, I haven't tried one I haven't liked. Dressings are a make-or-break for me, both taste and qty of dressing. I love that I have the option of choosing light, medium, heavy, or on the side dressing. 2. The quality of the ingredients. I really feel like I can taste the difference between Leaf & Grain and other fast casual salad restaurants (and some other sit down restaurants). In particular, the roasted vegetables and the proteins are all very worth the price. The steak comes from antibiotic-free, free range cattle, and I think the chicken does as well. 3. The portion size is perfect. My salad has been full to the brim every single time I've been, and I usually have leftovers for dinner. As far as my favorite things on the menu: I love the Veggie Boost with steak and citrus vinaigrette. The Alamo is also really good, and I love the Mediterranean with salmon (and no olives). All and all, if you're looking for a fast casual restaurant during the work day, or if you're shopping downtown or just want to check out a cool new spot and you're in the area, it's definitely worth the visit. My one piece of advice is that if you're in a rush, make sure to order online to pick up or come before or after 12:00-1:00 (that seems to be the busiest time from my experience). read more

Since Leaf & Grain opened up here it has become an almost daily staple of my diet! I love the many options, fresh ingredients and delicious flavors! My current favorite is the Alamo but substituting portobello mushrooms for the chicken. My wife's favorite is the Mediterranean and often I pick up a salad for her to have the next day. It's great having a quick, healthy and delicious place to eat so close to my office! Also, the staff here is great. They are all friendly and helpful. WOW! This place is way better than I expected. I ordered lunch today and it was both healthy and tasty. I had the steak salad (which was a surprising find). The food quality is leagues above any other restaurant in the Houston center. I think my favorite part is the dressings! I asked for a cup of the lemon shallot dressing in addition to the horseradish vinaigrette that came with my salad. Both tasted amazing and homemade! I will definitely be a regular at Leaf & Grain and I look forward to how the restaurant evolves. read more

My three favorite salads are the Veggie Boost, the Laredo, and Seoul Food and I think they're more on the filling side than other options. I don't think I'd get tired of eating this salad for a while. I've only tried the steak salad for now, replaced the bacon with corn, and medium dressing. It tastes really good, and the portion is not ridiculous. I don't have to throw anything away, just as food should be served. read more

I have been seeing the line out the door for days and thought I would give it a shot. Unfortunately the hype doesn't match the product. Disappointing to say the least. I ordered the Dijon Watson. Mushy and oily would be about the best way to describe the dish, not to mention expensive at over $13. The steak tasted pretty good, but the rest of it needed some crunch...some freshness. Instead it just felt very heavy and unsatisfying. Points for using ingredients not normally found in salad (roasted carrots, sunchokes, which were mushy, caramelized onions - mushy-) farro, which held up well and had good flavor. The dressing, however was way too oily. I'll just finish by saying that Salata has nothing to worry about. read more

5 stars for service 2.5 stars for food Before I get the death stare from other Yelpers, let me preface by saying that I am a vegetarian (part-time vegan) so yes I know a little about clean eating and whole foods. I got the Thai-ger Salad but by the time half my salad was built, the server realized that there was no tofu and I would have to wait at least 5-10 minutes. I decided not to wait and asked if they could just double up the broccoli and give me the 3-4 pieces of tofu that were left on the bottom. I also shamelessly asked for a discount since I wasn't getting my full salad. They were great and knocked off a couple of dollars and asked if I wanted to substitute a falafel but I declined - the Thai-ger and falafel are not on the same food wavelength. The dressing used on the salad is great but since it is so thick, it does not evenly coat the entire salad. Some parts of my salad were so dry I decided to take it home and add a little dressing later. Hopefully they fix some of these issues as their business grows and maybe in a few months I will be back. read more

This place is a needed change from the rest of the fare in the shops. It's nice to be able to get a good, filling, and healthy (if you want it to be) meal during lunchtime here. I've been here three times, and have very much enjoyed the Common Table and the Veggie-Boost. Today on my third visit, I ordered the Alamo bowl. It is good as well, but after walking all the way back to my office and opening the bowl, I discovered that they had put tofu as the protein instead of chicken. I can deal with tofu, but when you're in the mood for and expecting chicken (as specified on the menu board) it's a serious let down. Additionally, when I examined the menu just to make sure I didn't misread anything, I discovered that the person preparing the bowl had also neglected to add any quinoa. I debate between giving 3 or 4 stars, as the food quality is definitely deserving of a higher rating. I would just expect that if the person making a salad or a bowl doesn't know what is supposed to go in it, that person would just turn around and look at the menu hanging behind them. I will definitely go back, but with the important knowledge that roasted tofu can look amazingly similar to grilled chicken. I'll also go with the knowledge that I have to watch everything that goes into my bowl... and that's unfortunate. +1 star for reaching out to me regarding the review. Bowls are incredibly fresh, and also crazy filling. The space itself is bright and clean. Staff is very friendly. The bottom of their whiteboard when you come in says "Tasty, Hearty, Healthy, Don't Compromise" and it seems like they're the type of small local restaurant (as far as I can tell this is their only storefront) that cares about offering good options and a pleasant experience. Sourcing of their (high-quality!) ingredients is a point of emphasis on the menu boards, and their in-house dressings are delicious (the cilantro jalapeno dressing, by the way, is my recommendation. to. die. for.) Even just looking around at other people in line, you can tell they're excited to be treating themselves to a solid lunch. And $10-$12 for a bowl is a deal in my book, especially since it's just so dang good. Great place! read more

I ordered the 44 steak salad and basically received a pile of lettuce with a very small amount of the other ingredients. Had it not been so busy, I would have returned it as it was truly not worth the price. Having said that, I am thinking that this was not the norm so may be willing to give this place another try. read more
