Pretty good food but not sure if I would come back. I came here with friends on a weekend and the restaurant is located in downtown Martinez. It was easy to find parking. The food was good overall but we had a little incident I wasn't happy about. When the server brought our food, the spoon felt. The sever behind him picked it up and put it in our dish. She did this in front of us. When we said something the server who originally brought our food was like no she didn't, it is a new spoon. It was a weird interaction and not very pleasant. It just didn't leave me very happy. I think the food is good, we had several dishes and they have pretty good flavor. They are all main dishes and they don't come with rice. You have to order it on the side. We had two different chicken curry dishes- Panang and Yellow Curry $12.50 (my two favorites) , Pad Sew Ew $12 it had a lot of veggies and good flavor, Pad Thai $12, Mango Rice $13.50, and Lemon Grass Soup $12 not bad but not my favorite. Came here during lunch with my nursing friends and they did nottt disappoint! My Pad Thai was pretty good. I even got stains on my white scrubs LOL. 9/10 The Grilled Beef plate was the star of the show though. 10/10. It has been awhile Lemongrass Bistro, as the last time I was here was many years ago. Though I have been in the area in recent years for the food trucks, the beer festivals, and the less fun jury duty visits, I had not made my way back to Lemongrass Bistro mainly because back then they were just always so busy, so after awhile I sort of just stopped doing the whole waiting thing here as it's a bit out of my way. Located in the quaint downtown area of Martinez, it's on the quieter side of the downtown area towards the outskirts. On this Friday night it was quite busy, with several restaurants having outdoor eating, but also live music as well playing, with the streets and tables crowded with people, so it may seem a bit raucous during the weekends here. But as I've noted, Lemongrass Bistro is just a block away from where the busiest parts of this downtown area is for the night. The decor still looks pretty much the exact same from years ago, and not much has changed. They have both outdoor and indoor seating, though the outdoor seating is just a few tables in front of the restaurant, so it's not extensive. Service here was okay. They weren't very busy for indoor seating, as there were just a few tables seated other than ours. The servers were inattentive, and it was sort of hard to actually tell who was a server, and who wasn't as it felt like the two people who were out front at the time were fighting for who didn't want to help a customer first. There was another staff that came out eventually after we had already put our order in, and he seemed more attentive, but by that point it was too late for us anyways. Just hard to tell how the service is since the ones that were there on this night didn't really seem to want to help other than just for order pick-ups, but the people who were seated they weren't exactly looking out for the customers. Price wise, it's not too bad for Thai food, a bit on the pricier side, but considering it's a downtown area, it's about the right cost comparatively to other eating spots here. Let's get to the food. First up are the appetizers. We ordered the crispy rolls, samosas, and the grilled chicken skewers. The crispy rolls were unfortunately the worst part of our meal. It was bland, didn't have much inside it, and as a roll that was advertised as having taro in it, you could've fooled me. It was definitely the least favorite out of all of the eaters in our party. However, the other two appetizers more than redeemed this portion of our meal. The samosas are nice, as the way they do the curry potatoes in the samosas are a bit different than they usually are, and they're chopped pieces of potatoes rather than mashed potatoes on the inside. Flavoring was quite nice, and the texture worked great because of the chopped pieces and not mashed. The grilled chicken skewers were also pleasant here. The chicken was tender and not dry, and which usually the detriment when it comes to grilled chicken at Thai places. The peanut sauce is aplenty, so for peanut fans, you will have plenty for your chicken. The little dish of veggies were also a nice light addition to the palette. Entrees were: Penang curry, eggplant beef, and garlic noodle with shrimp. Didn't really get to sample the penang curry so I will speak to the other two. The garlic noodle I was able to try a bit of. It's not quite like the typical garlic noodle that you would be familiar with at Asian places. The noodles themselves are kind of bland, with a minor kicker, the taste of garlic is quite strong with the noodle. Why is it bland? Because outside of the little bit of sauce that comes on top, there's really no actual seasoning on the noodles itself outside of the garlic flavor. But if you like garlic, you will probably like these noodles because of how garlicky it is. My main dish was the eggplant with beef. I quite enjoyed it, though I do wish the beef portion of the dish was actually a bit more tender, as it bordered on dry, but that's kind of how most Thai places cook their beef in these dishes, so can't complain too much. The eggplants were cooked very well, and quite delicious. How are the portions? Everything outside of the crispy rolls was a pretty good portion of food. This makes the price note earlier a bit more manageable since you do get a good amount of food. Overall, my revisit to Lemongrass Bistro was a successful one. While things such as the service was quite shaky this time, and that crispy roll appetizer was incredibly underwhelming, the other appetizers and entrees made up for these other oversights. If you're in the area, whether it'd be for a festival/event in the nearby field towards the back of downtown Martinez, or if you're here for jury duty or other course related necessities, this is not a bad spot to drop by if you're in the mood for some Thai food. read more

Last week I came here with my boyfriend during our lunch break. The restaurant was somewhat busy, but we were seated outside within 5 minutes of arriving, and our order was taken shortly after and we began waiting. 40 minutes later... we were STILL waiting for our food. Mind you, it was blazing hot outside and our waiter constantly walked past us without updating us or checking up on us. I walked inside the restaurant to get his attention and noticed that groups that came after us were already halfway through their meals. So what the hell happened to our food!!? Our waiter finally noticed that I was inside and asked me to remind him what we ordered. I told him what we ordered and he told me he never put the order in the system. FANTASTIC... my boyfriend and I were sweaty, hangry, and our lunch break was practically over by then. Our waiter put in the order immediately after realizing his mistake, but at that point our time was already wasted and we had to return to work. We told him we had to leave given the circumstances and all he had to say was "okay." No apologies, no compensation, NOTHING. If you have hours to kill, this is your place!! DELICIOUS! This place is amazing! First I had to start with an appetizer and I went with the avocado rolls. I would highly recommend the avocado rolls! The grilled pork was sooo tender. I would order the grilled pork every time. Lemongrass had provided some chili sauce on the side. I'm so happy they did because i would have never known what I was missing. It must be a crowd favorite. I put this sauce on the grilled pork and it was the cherry on top. The garlic noodles with prawns was my favorite. I'm always a sucker for garlic noodles and love shrimp. If you can't have shrimp there are other meat options but make sure you call the restaurant. The vermicelli noodle bowl with tofu was yummy! The tofu was perfectly cooked. Open for takeout during shelter in place! Our experience here was super smooth - gave 'em a call and our food was ready 10 minutes later. We stopped by on a Tuesday evening and there were a couple other people inside picking up. They were super friendly and offered utensils, napkins, and hot sauces to go. Now most importantly - their food is EXCELLENT. I feel like I have so much Thai food that it all starts to taste the same, but Lemongrass knocked it out of the park. I had the drunken noodles with beef and my husband had the lemongrass fried rice with chicken. I loved my noodles, but I must say that the lemongrass fried rice took the gold here. I would definitely order that for myself next time. Love that curry taste on the rice. Neither dish was too greasy and didn't leave us feeling super thirsty afterwards. Free street parking out front. Upon arrival our waiter greeted us but wanted to seat us where they were folding napkins? UMMM can we sit on the side with the patrons? SMH We ordered LemonGrass soup, ok please tell me whenever you order soup-shouldn't the waiter pour the broth in our bowls? and pass it to whomever is at our table? Sent us the wrong order? No we did not order the Vermicelli noodle bowl. Just my opinion. We ordered the Sample Platter which comes with grilled chicken skewers, petite lumpia, avocado rolls, and crispy shrimp rolls-out of the platter the avocado rolls were the best. The chicken was dry, and the lumpia was sad, and the shrimp was over cooked. The Lemongrass soup was superb. The Garlic Noodles w/prawns-HMMM? Noodles were over cooked, and where was the garlic? This is a quaint little restaurant in downtown Martínez. It does have some, very limited outdoor seating. The place is clean, staff is always helpful, my issue is with cook/chef. Last night we had the crispy spring roll, followed by the yellow & red curries both with chicken. The spring rolls were tasty, served pipping hot with a side of sauce, sweet & went well with the spring rolls. Both curry dishes, the yellow & red, were lacking in flavor. Not sure what happened, we been here before & the curries were spot on, but this time it was a bit of a let down. I like consistency, i.e., when I return to a restaurant, I want that great taste I had the first time around, not something tasting completely off. We did mention such to our server - not sure he told the cook. Could have been the curry itself as I've been told by other Thai restaurant owners that the curry can sometimes greatly vary changing the flavors of their food. ‍ Lastly the rice was close to perfect, but with the main course on top, this meal just wasn't cutting it. read more
