First, I want to start by saying Leo's Pizza has some really good pizza. We've always loved going for the NY-style pizza, beer, and happy hour. Unfortunately, our experience tonight was really disappointing. We went with friends and ordered one pepperoni pizza shortly after 6:00. After waiting about 30 minutes, we checked on it and were told "5 more minutes." Another 15 minutes passed, and by 6:45 we still had no pizza. When I went up again to ask about it, it seemed like they had no idea we had even ordered one. I understand mistakes happen, especially on a Friday night, and I'm assuming the order was lost. What really prompted this review, though, was the customer service. The two ladies behind the counter were incredibly rude and acted annoyed that I was asking about our food after waiting 45 minutes. A gentleman then told us they were "putting one in now," which confirmed the order had clearly been missed. When one of the ladies finally brought the pizza out almost 50 minutes after we ordered, she still had an attitude and never apologized for the delay or mix-up. With so many great local pizzerias and happy hour spots downtown, we'll probably try somewhere else next time. It's unfortunate because a simple apology and a little kindness would have gone a long way and made the situation much easier to understand. read more

I visited twice and had a good experience both visits. I tried the classic pepperoni pizza, chocolate custard and draft Modelo on one visit and a pepperoni and sausage pizza, pistachio custard, and vodka and sprite during another visit. The pizza is thin with a chewy crust that has a hint of garlic. The crust, sauce, cheese, and pepperoni created the perfect bit. I preferred the classic pepperoni over the pepperoni and sausage, the sausage was sliced and I wasn't a fan of the texture. Pizza is my absolute favorite food and this place has one of the best pizzas I've ever had here in San Antonio! You can create your own whole pizza or purchase by the slice. Before they give it to you they reheat it in the pizza oven so it's nice and fresh when you take it. The sauce isn't too over powering and the pizza isn't to crispy. The sizes of each slice are also enough to fill you up and their homemade ranch is SO GOOD. The staff is very nice and friendly and tried to be as fast as possible even with the big fiesta crowd. I love pizza, pizza is something that is so special to me that I'm sure most people can empathize with. So when it comes to trying new pizza places I feel like my standards are high but practical. We ordered 4 slices, 1 pepperoni, 1 coach, and 2 LC Specials. We also ordered a caesar salad to share because the pictures looked really good on yelp. The pizza came and it was nice and hot but our salad came later after we had reminded them we ordered one. They also only had 1 clean fork available so my husband and I shared the salad and the fork lol. The pizza itself seemed burnt, the edges of the pepperonis were dark, pieces of my pizza were also a dark black. The crust was tough and hard to chew on all of the slices. It also just didn't taste too spectacular. I was also disappointed that the salad wasn't like the pictures on yelp. I really was looking forward to the abundance of cheese. With other pizza by the slice options in town I'd say this place isn't the one I'd recommend to people visiting. The service wasn't necessarily bad or good, it was just okay. We stopped into Leo Pizza late on a Tuesday night while visiting San Antonio from Arizona. I couldn't decide what to eat, but Jonathan was incredibly helpful and recommended the Mad Dog slice, which was amazing! What really stood out was his kindness. Since it was pouring rain, he even helped me get the kids and stroller down the stairs. This was our last stop before heading home, and it left a great impression. I went two weeks in a row...first on a Tuesday and then again the following Wednesday and both nights the place was busy. I counted at least 10 pizzas going out as takeout orders, not even including the dine-in crowd. People clearly know about this place. If you want pizza by the slice or a full pie, Leo's has you covered. Prices are reasonable whether you're stopping in solo or feeding a group. The beer is ice cold, and they also offer some well drinks if you're looking for something stronger. As I have mentioned many a time on here, hype is a balloon ready to be popped. You can Tik Tok, Instagram a business into existence but ultimately firsthand experience will confirm or dash something. Unfortunately for me the latter was true. I will say I do appreciate what it's attempting to do but it misses the mark. I have been lately on a kick to try new places. And Leo's Hideout has been high on my list. Since it is downtown it's intended demographic is apartment dwellers or tourists. I say this as there is zero parking. Or should I say zero public parking. They will validate your parking for up to two hours but it is very problematic. The place itself is really cute. I like the New York minimalist aesthetic. Outdoor seating. A diner interior. Hipster vibe. Cool paintings. What could go wrong? Well. When I went inside the first thing I noticed was their limited menu. It's trying to replicate the experience of a New York Pizza Joint. They offer a few types of pizza by the slice or a full pie. They also offer beer by the MUG or pitcher. I went with a pepperoni slice of pizza but was craving a beer. As Yelp's Resident Lush I never drink Bud, Dos XX, etc . I'd rather walk the plank than to drink that rubbish. I was briefly encouraged as they had a few local craft beers on draft by the Kunstler and Highwheel Brewing. Out of curiosity I asked what styles each were. The server did not know and I'm fine with that. I don't expect everyone to be a Cicerone Expert. He instead referred to another server, which seemed silly to me. I mean, if it were the Friendly Spot with a hundred and something beers on tap that's not realistic. But it was just two taps. When he asked the other server they seemed bothered and yelled at me. And I don't mean yelling at me because of noise volume. But yelling at me in a very rude and antagonistic manner. I have been to businesses where a simple blackboard with menu items chalked in can squelch this. In New York that behavior would certainly fly but this is not New York. Biting my tongue I decided on a Kunstler MUG of pilsner beer. When it was served it was in a tiny, small mug. Even Norm from "Cheers" would be insulted by the pour. The kicker was it really, really expensive. The pizza slice was cheaper. I opted to sit outside, again I do appreciate the aesthetics. It is perfect for people watching. However, the proof is always in the pudding. A server came and brought the pizza. Would the pizza live up to its hype? Some have compared it to what you would find in New York? Spoiler Alert, No. The pizza slice was huge. When I bit into it it was all dough. There was no cheese nor sauce. The flavor was extremely bland. I've had pizza in New York. People who have compared it to New York Style pizza probably love "The Godfather III." Leo's Hideout was a dismal disappointment. The service was terrible. The pizza is equal to that. My mother, my 2 kids ( 2 & 4) and I went to Leo's for a slice of pizza for everyone. My kids were hungry and we wanted to get back to the Christmas festivities outside. 15 min into it - I asked for our pizzas, because everyone was getting served around us that came in after and not us. They apologized- we waited 15 more min and noticed the same thing was happening - everyone around us was continuing to be served. I asked for my money back including my tip. They refunded my cash and tip. By this point I had a very hungry toddler that was just angry. It made the night difficult. I'm not sure what happened when I brought it to the girls attention that we were not being served. But the same girl didn't offer an apology. Only the manger did. I've lived in San Antonio my whole life and this was my first time- I won't be returning. Tbh the dough looked so thin on some parts- it didn't look cooked. We've been coming to Leo's Hideout regularly and never had issues before. This time, out of nowhere, staff decided to aggressively ID everyone at the table,after already serving us beer with no ID ,My girlfriend didn't have her ID on her at that moment (it was upstairs in the parking garage), so they told her she couldn't drink -- fine, rules are rules. What wasn't fine was the attitude. Staff brought it up multiple times, even while dropping off food, and spoke to her in a way that felt unnecessary and disrespectful. There's a big difference between enforcing policy and making customers feel uncomfortable. If you're going to change how strictly you ID people, that's your call,but make sure it's every time,but staff should learn how to politely communicate instead of talking down to paying customers who've supported this place for a long time,any other time I would've knocked him out,but i am a changed man,btw my girl doesn't know how to drive so guess who had to finish all the pitchers we had ordered at the beginning read more

If the pizza wasn't good, I'd definitely be more upset about waiting that long for 2 slices. Regardless, the LC Slice was the bomb! The wild mushrooms are sooo good. We got a few slices of pepperoni pizza which were fantastic. They folded perfectly and the flavor profile was top notch as well. The decorations give it a divey sports bar type feel to me but it was a super family friendly environment. Overall for 3 slices and 2 drinks we got out the door for less than $20 which is rare enough today but for the quality of food we got it made the price seem like an even better deal. I'm always looking for a decent NY style pizza in Texas since leaving NYC. Typically most places disappoint ( too bready, cheesy, soggy, etc.) I stumbled on to this spot and absolutely loved the pizza and vibe. It's a very retro (cozy seating, neon signs, dimly lit dive bar lighting) pizzeria that sells pizza by the slice. The pizza was perfectly thin and crispy with a great crust and charred undercarriage. The ratios we're just right and the cupped pepperoni was great. My wife tried the mad dog slice with ricotta, sausage, and hot honey which was also great.
