The space is very large and there's a decent amount of seating - both bar and table. I got the cereal milk matcha with oat milk. It was about $10 with tip. The size vs. price isnt the best out there, but I understand this is a "specialty" if there's so upcharge was to be expected. Overall, the taste is a bit of a journey. The first taste is punchy, earthy, and sweet - very aromatic in the mouth. Then it settles into a rich matcha taste afterwards. The more I drank it the more I did end up liking it, but I do think the cereal milk flavor may pair better with coffee, so I'll try that instead next time. I finally did the "Greatest Hits" run at Milk Bar, which includes the Birthday Cake slice, the Milk Bar Pie slice, a 3-pack of B'day Truffles, and a Compost Cookie. (Pro tip: don't try to be a hero and eat this all in one sitting unless you want a literal heart palpitation). I've been chipping away at it over the last two days, and it's the gift that keeps on giving. The Birthday Cake and Truffles are basically nostalgia in edible form, like the best possible version of Funfetti, but denser and way more addictive. The Milk Bar Pie is the richest thing I've ever tasted: it's salty, buttery, and gooey, so a few bites at a time is plenty. The Compost Cookie was the real MVP for balancing things out, though. The bits of potato chips and pretzels give you that salty hit you desperately need after all the cake. Overall, it's definitely a splurge, but everything keeps so well in the fridge that it's worth the haul. Milk Bar is just another dessert place. It is not that special. It's overrated and overhyped simply from TV exposure. The desserts are non-traditional, but I am not sure they work. For happy celebratory moments like birthdays, you expect a slightly sweet, smooth cake that easily melts in the mouth. After taking a bite, you want that "Ahh this bite makes this moment special" feeling. After a bite of the birthday cake here, I get a "What the heck is this hard thing" feeling instead. This applies tp their other cakes as well. The red velvet cheesecake not only has crunchy cookie crumbs, but it also has crunchy chocolate chips. So when you take a bite of what you expect to be a smooth cheesecake, you get that "What the heck is this hard thing" twice (1 star off). Don't even bother ordering their birthday cake for shipping. After a day or two in transit, it is no longer fresh. I ordered one during COVID pandemic and it tasted several days old. I wanted to visit this flagship store to give them another chance. The storefront ones do taste more fresh than shipped ones, but the storefront ones can even be a day or so old. Their "truffles" are non-traditional as well. They are more like cake pops mashed from leftover cake scraps and frosting. I was not into them. Lastly, the bathroom is gross (1 star off). For a cute bakery like this, I expected they would take some care to make their bathroom cute, or at the very least clean. It is messy and smelly. I will tell you that the only thing I like from the Milk Bar is their milk-and-cereal soft-serve. Oooh Milk Bar, how I love you! Christina Tosi is a hero of mine, and it's always a privilege to be able to eat at one of her places and have the sweets fresh. I got the chocolate cake and one of each cookie (to share, partly). The cake was one of the best desserts I've ever had- and I don't even like cake usually!
