I cannot say enough good things about Levant. It is one of my absolute favorite restaurants in LA. The food is delicious, everyone I've met who works there is kind, knowledgeable, and seems genuinely passionate about the cuisine, and both the inside and outside area are super cute. Everything is fresh, perfectly seasoned, and thoughtfully prepared. The Lebanese egg pie with kashkaval (cheese) is a standout: the dough is light and fluffy and the kashkaval is delicious. I also love the Merguez sausage manoush (it's like a dreamy delicious flatbread). They did a wonderful job accommodating my party of 10 people today. All of us left feeling so satisfied and joyful. I'm surprised there was no line when we showed up around 12:30 to find plenty of open tables both inside and outside. We opted for an inside table with a view of the open kitchen. I'd just had sannakji around two days ago and was still feeling that octopus mood. Unfortunately, Levant sold out before we could order our own Grilled Octopus. I instantly pivoted to their Off the Grill Shawerma plate instead. Combined with the Merguez sausage Man'oush, this was already a banger of a meal! Both items were savory, nutritious, and simultaneously filling and light. The cheese on the Man'oush was very good and I haven't suffered any lactose intolerant punishment for eating it! Everything down to the seasoning and complements of sweet, savory, and acidity was perfectly balanced. Thanos would have loved it here. The relatively small menu is a boon for its quality. Due to the perfectly portioned meal, I could have walked away happy. But my partner and I ambitiously requested a fig scone (of reasonable size) and a simple Groundworks black coffee. It was the perfect end to our meal. Everyone who helped us out was very personable and warm, and it feels so odd to say as a first time customer, but I felt very at home here. Found Levant Bistro looking for a restaurant for my gluten sensitive friend and it did not disappoint. The entire menu is gluten free! Our server shared that Levant Bistro first opened in Raleigh, NC where it is popular when they decided to open a location in LA. Upon entry, I told the host that we had made a reservation. We were seated in the outside patio that was beautiful. There's also indoor seating but the weather was nice so almost everyone ate outside. We ordered the octopus, mushroom&spinach flatbread , Levantine salmon, and the off the grill eggplant to share. Everything was delicious. The food was colorful, fresh, and healthy. I did delivery so I cannot speak on ambience or onsite service but if it's anything like what I just ate, it's probably superb! As someone who's GF (not by choice or am celiac but due to a GI disease) and have to watch wheat intake sadly, I mainly go GF bread/dessert based items. If you had blindfolded me then taken me in and ordered things then after asked me if it was gluten free, I'd say "No damn way!" I got the Lahmajeen and Merguez sausage flatbreads, labneh Beiruti, fattoush and finally baklava tart. First off the serving sizes and portioning are great. I don't feel it's been downsized yet up-charged like many GF places do with so many products (especially when ordering from pizza places or getting pastries, we all know that rip-off feeling). The pita itself is INSANE. It's honestly one of the most light, fluffy and cloud like pita I've had in all of LA in my six years here. The fact it's gluten free is mind-blowing to me. I wish every GF place took notes on how to make bread products like this. The mouthfeel was a dream! I honestly don't think my brain will still comprehend it was GF, it feels like a cheat code has been discovered honestly. The Lahmajeen was minced beautifully, excellent spicing and contrast. That spritz of lemon on top was such a fresh tangy touch too. The Merguez sausage one was just as delightful, tasted so fresh and of genuine quality like the other. Absolutely would get these or other versions again! The labneh Beiruti was honestly the perfect dip/topping to put on either of those flatbreads to mix things up. I'm not a major olive fan but that dip as a whole was sublime. I can't wait to get more next time and taste them all! The baklava tart was such a nice twist; although I will always miss light and flaky filo dough, but it has such a lovely texture and not overpowering sweetness. I'll definitely have to buy more desserts next time and make sure if I'm in Silver Lake to stop by to get a goodie bag of treats!! It'll be well worth it given what I experienced. I've been looking forward to going here as they are fully gluten free and I'm a celiac. I finally made it today at lunch and I have to say I was disappointed. I ordered a lahmajoon which was on a thick pizza crust instead of a thin flat bread. It was so salty it was hard to eat and the spices weren't authentic. I also ordered a samouseh which the menu said had cheese and cilantro. They basically took the pizza dough, put some cheese in it with no cilantro. When I pointed out there was no cilantro to the waiter, he said the menu was wrong. Then I ordered the kenafeh which they charged $14 for a dessert. I didn't mind paying it as I was so excited to finally eat a gluten free version. What they brought out was NOT a kenafeh. It was dough with mozzarella type cheese instead of a ricotta type cheese on it. The top should have had phyllo dough strips but it was some kind of custard. I was sssoooo disappointed. The ambiance wasn't bad. It definitely gave no Levantine Lebanese vibes. It was more of a modern bar/eatery. Then I bought some pita bread to take home. We we duly impressed by the decor, the friendly staff and the menu which has so many original and creative dishes, all gluten free and all made with fresh ingredients. I know that we had the impressive mezze plate which offered a large variety of excellent foods meant to share. This is a real gem in the heart of Echo Park. Levant Bistro prioritizes the quality of the entire experience: everything from the ingredients, service, and ambiance. I also really appreciated that everything was gluten free. My boyfriend has celiac, and I was so excited to have him experience all aspects of authentic Levantine food. And as someone who normally eats gluten, don't fret because the food was so good, you'd never know it was gluten free. To start, we shared the garlic and herb bread and dip sampler. The rolls came out sizzling and were so delicious and fragrant. We loved the dip sampler (our favorite was the baba ghannoush, but all are fantastic). Side note: the olive oil used in a lot of their dishes is fantastic and seems to be such good quality--loved it. For mains, I had the Off the Grill Lamb Kafta plate, and my boyfriend had the Spiced Chicken. The plates are huge, so worth the price and honestly worth more. The passion of fresh, quality, organic food is translated in the taste. I've hardly ever had lamb of that quality and was blown away. The sides perfectly complimented each other, and I left with a delicious dinner of leftovers lol! Based on the reviews I had pretty high expectations. But overall the food was just okay. I got a tomato and feta salad and added a side of grilled chicken. I found the salad to be very heavy on the feta and the mint to the point that it took away from the salad as a whole. With the grilled chicken on the side it ended up being around $23 for the salad and it just didn't feel like it was worth that value. It felt like a salad I could have made better at home. My partner got the grilled platter with the chicken. I tasted the rice and it was very heavy on the cinnamon and almost tasted sweet, which was a bit unexpected. Overall, I expected a bit more from the flavor of the food and portion size to validate the prices. The ambiance was nice, the outdoor area was well lit. And our service was good. The baked goods looked good as well, if I came back I would probably give those a try and just come for coffee/pastry instead of a full meal. read more

My wife was diagnosed with Celiac recently, which totally upended our dining out experience in LA. Lucky for us, we found Levant during Dine LA last year. We have been here many times since and brought friends from all over, both gluten free and not, and to a person everyone has loved it. The entire restaurant is celiac safe but you would hardly be able to tell with their bread options. The dishes are fresh, flavorful, and unique, both for dinner and their weekend brunch. Standouts are their kafta, the egg pie for brunch, the whole fish, and their wide range of mezze. The service has always been excellent, and their patio is beautiful on a sunny LA afternoon or cool evening. It is so nice to have a delicious option without the worry of gluten cross-contamination that even the best restaurants are not immune to. First things first, the parking sucks and it's really hit or miss finding a decent spot. It's a shared lot with other restaurants so it makes sense. The restaurant itself is spacious and homey. It feels luxe without the haughtiness. The owners are onsite and working, providing suggestions as what to order and what their specials are. I've come twice with friends and everything has been amazing. It is all gluten-free, celiac friendly, and allergy friendly which I feel is important for the area. We came for dinner and had a spread of foods and dips, and the hummus was definitely my favorite. The Lamahjun was very flavorful and strong as it was all zaatar, and the hummus toned it down a bit. We shared falafels, hummus, babaghanoush, veggies, pita, and labneh. The pita bread is something amazing, I am not GF but would've never known if they hadn't told me. It was delicious and everything went so well together. At the end we shared a pistachio rose knafeh which rivaled the authentic ones in Little Arabia. The space is casual and has lovely lighting with a shabby chic vibe. We really enjoyed our dinner after the theater. We started with hummus and pita and a fig and goat cheese flatbread. The pita is excellent - very tender. Best GF stuff that I have had. I was not a big fan of the hummus, because it was super tahini heavy, but that is very subjective. The fig and goat cheese flatbread was one of the best things of the night - a generous topping of fig preserves with goat cheese and nuts. DD had short ribs for dinner, which no one else got to try - it means it was delicious. DM had the salmon, which was cooked rare as requested and was outstanding. The cinnamon loaded rice was fabulous and perfectly cooked. My oldest had the falafel sandwich, which she enjoyed. My youngest and I split the tabbouleh salad, which was among the best that I have ever had - grain free and flavor packed, as well as the spinach and mushroom flatbread, which was okay but was disappointingly soggy and greasy. I would not order this again. Stick with the ones that do not have that greasy cheese. I had a couple of glasses of the Got, which was outstanding. $18 is pretty typical for a glass of wine these days. The dessert case has lots of tempting treats. I recommend skipping the cookies in favor of the chocolate cake which was EPIC. It was the moistest, most wonderful cake ever. It was worth a trip on its own. Dunno how they got something so tiny to pack so much flavor but they figured it out somehow. The hummus also was delicious. I've never tried hummus that had a lemon flavor to it. It's so good. There is also a parking lot, however it's a hit or miss in terms of being able to find parking, especially if you go on a weekend or in the evenings. The food here is really tasty and healthy. I ordered the Brussel sprouts and the salmon dish. The rice in the salmon dish has a delicious cinnamon flavor - my only feedback on this dish is that the rice is a little bit dry. The kibbeh was AMAZING- the yoghurt and herbed sauce was so good The spicy labneh was not very spicy but delicious on the pita and the pita was warm. The flatbread was "flavor blasted". The tart flavors of the jam were unexpected but delicious. I wouldn't recommend this bread u less sharing amongst 3 people or more because the bold flavors get too much after one slice. Water - very good - filtered which is very nice Service was nice and decent but someone messed up in the kitchen -- however we didn't notice until we took a bite that we were given the wrong flatbread Instead of complaining about it we just ate it anyway didn't want it to go to waste. We noticed when Levant opened a few months ago and we were very excited to have another organic food option in the neighborhood. Tonight we finally made it out to Levant and it did NOT disappoint! We had the Falafel appetizer with warm pita, wild salmon plate, and the turmeric vegetable soup- all were mind blowningly amazing! I think my favorite was the turmeric soup. It was filling and flavorful- a real treat! We also had some of their icy cold drinks. I had the peach Italian soda with fresh peach purée and my boyfriend had the hibiscus lemonade. The peach Italian soda was spring in a glass, and the hibiscus lemonade was tart and not too sweet. Just perfect I'd say! Finally, our server (I think his name was Alejandro) was so sweet, attentive, and helpful. He genuinely made us feel welcome and helped us with a few questions we had about the menu. I am so glad we finally tried Levant! My only regret is that we should've tried it sooner- this place is fantastic! I can't wait to swing by in the morning sometime soon to try out their organic pastries and pancakes! Keep up the good work Levant! You guys are amazing! read more
